No home. No job. No boyfriend.

When Lia loses her job straight after a break-up, she escapes to the Molins’ family-run boulangerie in Toulouse – the place she was last happy, far away from her cheating ex.

Sworn off men, she isn’t prepared for the spark she feels for charming cheesemaker Jean-Luc, nor for things heating up at the family’s country home in Gascony when handsome, self-assured vineyard-owner Théo asks her out.

Torn between the two and her connections to the Molins family, Lia has some tough decisions to make.

Lia loves being back in France with the people she cares about, helping in the boulangerie. On discovering it is under threat of closure, she is devastated and resolves to do everything in her power to help it stay open.

Will she succeed? And will she be able to choose between the two handsome Frenchmen and live her happily ever after?

The Boulangerie on the Corner is a book with travel, new beginnings, found family and romance. Lia and boyfriend have recently split up and they are selling their flat. At least she has a job she loves, but no. She receives a "garden leave" as the company is downsizing. Her BFF asks her to think about the last time she was truly happy and she remembers living in France for summer. She lived with the Molins family over their boulangerie. She writes them a letter asking if she can come and visit and they agree. As soon as she arrives, she feels her stress lessen. Unfortunately, things do not go smoothly as their elderly parents become ill and end up in 2 different hospitals. Lia offers to help in the boulangerie while they figure out what to do. She is not only helping the Molins, but dealing with selling her home long distance, figuring out what is happening with her job and falling in love with the cheesemonger next door.

I have enjoyed previous books by Susan Buchanan and this was another enjoyable book. I really liked Lia. She was such a caring person, yet because of what has happened in her personal life, her self-esteem was not good. She makes some mistakes in her personal life, but never falters in her wish to help the Molins. The Molin family are wonderful. They embrace Lia like a family member and treat her like that, even before the tragedies that strike the family. Lia thinks she has the answer to help them out, but things get in the way. I enjoyed the many secondary characters, those that visit the boulangerie and the Molins children. Jean-Luc is a man that I would love to meet. Smart, caring, romantic, cute and funny. He sweeps Lia off her feet, but not until she makes a mistake with Theo. He is not a good person. If you enjoy stories that are uplifting, have some humour, great characters and a sweet romance, then you should pick up the Boulangerie on the Corner. I definitely recommend it.

‘The Boulangerie On The Corner’ – written by Susan Buchanan #BookReview

To go back to your happy place of the past

After not losing just her boyfriend, but also her job, Lia needs to find her happiness again. The last place that brought her joy, was years ago, in Toulouse, where she has been living with a wonderful family, the Molins, and their boulangerie. Once arrived in Gascony, it feels truly like home, and it gives Lia the opportunity to think about her future and her dreams. However, Lia also learns that no matter how welcoming and wonderful the Molins are, they are having their own personal struggles too, even jeopardizing the boulangerie with the threat of closure. Lia is more than willing, despite her flawed French, but how can she not help the family that made her one of the family… At the same time, no matter how much Lia has sworn off men, she finds herself both charmed by local cheesemaker Jean – Luc, who is ready to help her out, and by vineyard – owner Théo, who doesn’t hesitate to as her out on several dates. No matter how lovely her time with the Molins is, Lia needs to think about her future and where that will be…

There is something about Susan’s books, that no matter turmoil the main characters are going through, you just feel yourself embraced by warmth, love, and other delightful feelings.

It is a fact that bad things never come alone, as Lia clearly shows us. Not only did her relationship recently end, but just at the moment she wants to take a few days off, she learns that in fact, she can take all the days she wants, as she also loses her job…

Even before losing her job, I could understand why Lia needs to find happiness again, or rather, place that brings her that feeling. The end of a relationship is never a pleasant moment, and you need to find something joyous again. And when Lia’s mind is made up of going to Gascony again, it feels truly like a sign that going there is the right decision, as her job isn’t an issue anymore.

I have never been abroad staying with another family while I was younger, so I don’t know how it feels to feel part of a family that in fact are strangers. And I am sure that there are some horror stories. But it was so nice to read how Lia enjoyed her time in France, and how the Molins are just wonderful people.

Now, I could also understand how with the passing of years, the contact somehow diminished, as life just goes on, and it takes you in different directions.

Yet I was pleasantly surprised how this French family is welcoming Lia back, like she never left. It would have been so easy to dismiss her, to let her mend for herself. But it is so crystal – clear that is just not who the Molins are.

Because they are warm, kind, caring people, with obviously their hearts at the right place. Even if things are a bit difficult at the start of the book (and with a lot still to happen…), they don’t hesitate to welcome Lia back, like their long-lost daughter. There should be more people in the world like the Molins! 😊

In a way, I could see Lia truly come at peace once arriving in Gascony, how easy in a way she finds her happiness again. And it is not only the Molins that make her feel all warm and happy again, but it is the place, the people in general that all make her feel like herself again.

And it is also the perfect place for Lia to think about her own future, as it is all a big question mark upon her arrival.

It was interesting (lacking a better word for it) reading how Lia is working on different levels. Seeing the struggles of the Molins, she wants to pull her weight, not only because of duty, but because of the love she has for this wonderful family.

Life isn’t fair, and that for sure is seen with the Molins, as they get one thing after another to get through. It is always the kindest people that have to face the most difficult struggles…

But it is also through struggles that sometimes things become clear. Because seeing all the struggles the Molins are facing, it becomes clear to Lia where her heart lays and what she wants to do with her future. And with her trail of thoughts, we see how genuine, unselfish, and caring Lia is…

Of course there is also some French romance added in this book, even if in my eyes, this wasn’t the focus of the book, as it is about Lia and finding her happiness and purpose again.

But back to the romance for a moment 😊. Of course the moment that Lia decides to stay away from men, there are suddenly two! 😊

There is extravagant Théo, who immediately uses his charms to get Lia agreeing on a date with him. He truly is a smooth talker, and I could understand how easily Lia is persuaded by him.

And then there is Jean – Luc, the business – neighbour so to say, as he has a fromagerie next to the boulangerie. His kindness and readiness, understanding and even patience, show his kind nature, his nurturing nature.

Obviously between the two men, I had my own personal favourite, and in a way, I was happy to read that my gut feeling about both men proved to be right (and no, I am not going to explain myself further 😊).

On a total different note, I for sure felt hungry while reading this book, as I could practically smell all the aromas of the boulangerie, and I was envious of the characters eating all the French delights that were made there! 😊

Like I said, this book is about Lia’s journey and her quest for peace, happiness, and purpose. And reading all the ups and downs, not only Lia’s but everyone’s, made it easy to relate to the characters, and also like them all!

Susan Buchanan just did it again, making me fall in love with wonderful characters, feel for them, feeling their pains, but also feeling the love, care and kindness in each and every one of them. And of course the marvellous story, about a young woman finding her happy place again, finding what she has been looking for, was just being devoured by me! Because aren’t we all, or haven’t we all been looking for our happy place in life? And with this book we see that that place can be found, that purpose can be found, and it is up to us to take that chance, even if it may sound like a scary thing to do. But when our heart tells us what to so, is it ever a wrong choice?

The Boulangerie on the Corner is the first in the promising new European Escapes series from Buchanan and I'm so excited to see where she takes us next.

My heart was with Lia on this one, France is my happy place too and I so long to return. French cuisine is to die for...as long as it doesn't include frogs, snails and puppy dog tails!

Lia's journey is one of finding herself, the rediscovery of having purpose, whilst helping out in the family boulangerie, and having not one but two men vying for her attentions!

Replete with charming characters, all the opulence of the boulangerie, and a desire to consume copious amounts of bread and cheese.

What's not to like?

Sometimes I really miss France, having lived and worked there, having done half of my degree in French, so I couldn't resist Susan Buchanan's latest release, which is set close to the area that I once called home.

What a treat!

This story has everything - brilliant love interests, fabulous friends (and French found family), and the most amazing food and drink. The author describes French life - and all that goes with it - with absolute flourish. It was such a dreamy read. The perfect escapist romance!

Before there was Captain Jean-Luc Picard, American audiences were once treated to a very different Jean-Luc—one who appeared in aggressively faux-European commercials for powdered cappuccino mix, urging us to believe we were sipping something international. That image lodged itself firmly in my cultural memory. It was the very first thing I thought of when Lia, newly arrived in Toulouse and reeling from three personal upheavals, meets the cheesemaker Jean-Luc in The Boulangerie on the Corner.

Maybe it was the name, but I knew he wasn’t a blink-and-you-miss-him character.

That instinct turned out to be right, and it speaks to one of Susan Buchanan’s real strengths as a writer. Her characters arrive fully formed, warm, and human. Even the so-called villains are likeable and relatable rather than cartoonish. Lia herself is a genuinely strong female protagonist—capable, bruised, and emotionally intelligent. Her friendship with Jules is a particular joy, showcasing the very best aspects of female friendship: loyal, supportive, and quietly sustaining.

Layered on top of that emotional core is a France that feels lived-in rather than staged. There is bread and pastry, cheese and wine, markets and architecture, rain and flowers. The Molins’ family-run boulangerie is not just a setting but a heartbeat, and when it comes under threat of closure, the stakes feel real and personal. Add two handsome French suitors—cheesemaker Jean-Luc and vineyard-owner Théo—each appealing in different ways, and the novel finds its romantic tension without cheap tricks or forced drama.

What makes this book especially satisfying is its sensory richness. The attention to detail is so precise you can practically smell the bread cooling on the racks, the sharpness of cheese, the damp stone after rain. It is comfort reading with substance: sunshine and laughter paired with the everyday complications life throws at us, and the quiet resilience required to meet them.

This is a story about refuge—about returning to the last place you remember being happy, and discovering that happiness can evolve rather than repeat itself. I loved the storyline, the characters, and the care Buchanan brings to every page. I finished the book feeling warm, well-fed, and genuinely hopeful there is more to come.

Goes well with: a café au lait, a still-warm croissant torn by hand, good butter, apricot jam, and the dangerous temptation to book a one-way ticket to Toulouse.

I absolutely adored everything about this gorgeous book. Susan has a real talent for creating characters that are completely adorable yet sassy! Lia is a perfect example as she takes the loss of her job, her boyfriend and then her home in her stride. Despite her devastation, she takes a pause to reevaluate her life choices, but she remains remarkably upbeat, which is quite the skill.

It was easy to be drawn to Lia who was a veritable dose of sunshine. Her outlook on life is incredibly positive, and her story arc was beautifully executed.

The premise of Lia returning to the family-run boulangerie where she had spent a few months helping some fifteen years earlier. The welcome she received was the kind usually reserved for family, and it soon became clear that she was viewed as one of their own. Susan Buchanan created a real sense of place with her descriptions of the local village, the residents and the charming bakery. I could almost smell the baking bread and taste the buttery croissants.

As the synopsis explains, Lia finds herself on the receiving end of the attentions of two rather different men. Firstly, she meets cheesemaker Jean-Luc. He struck me as being the reliable, boy-next-door type. His ethics and honour were obvious from the early chapters. We then met Théo, who owned a local vineyard and was definitely more flash! From his clothing to his car, he exuded a sense of style.

The whole story really takes shape when Lia becomes involved in supporting the family as they deal with issues, including the potential loss of the boulangerie and a mysterious offer from an interested party. I must admit, I was gripped and couldn’t put the book down as I desperately needed to know what would happen next.

This is the first in a new series, and having read a couple of her previous series, I just know that we are in for a real treat. I definitely can’t wait for the next instalment.

Wow. This is my first from this Author and it won't be my last. Such a beautiful read.
Lia's life in Scotland has decided to implode, first the boyfriend, then her job. At her wits end, when Jules her best friend suggests she go to a happy memory place to regroup she decides to up and go.
Many years earlier Lia had stayed in France with the Mollins family who treated her like one of their own, so she takes a leap of faith and hops on a plane, hoping they will remember her.
Not only do they remember her, they welcome her with open arms. It isn't long before Lia finds herself being drawn into family life but also to the guy next door. When illness strikes both sides of the family Lia steps up and helps in the Boulangerie owned by her found family. As the situation becomes more dire Lia, helped by Jean-Luc the now more than a friend next door, finds a way to help save the family business, only to have it snatched from her by the thoughtless actions of others. Add to the mix a jealous ex and a man who doesn't like to be told no, all appears to be lost. Can these amazing people find a way to prevent their lives being destroyed. Lia faces having to return to Scotland leaving all she has grown to love, but she isn't going to go down without a fight.
A beautiful story of chosen family, love in unexpected places and that maybe if you want something badly enough you could make it work. Susan has brought each character to life so well it is impossible not to fall in love with them. Well with one or two exceptions! A story of hope and finding yourself again I didn't want to put the book down once I started. I am looking forward to exploring more from Susan.

I am a big fan of Susan Buchanan’s books and I love her writing style, so I was really looking forward to reading her latest release The Boulangerie on the Corner.
Lia Abernethy is 36 and she has been dumped by Freddy after three years together and three months living together in a flat. Now she has to sell up. As the bad luck continues, she loses her job as a graphic designer. With encouragement from her best friend Jules, Lia decides to return to Toulouse, and stay with the Molin family again, at the boulangerie where she stayed for three months fifteen years ago.
As she goes to stay with the family again, a lot has changed over those fifteen years. Estelle is now 60, her daughter Suzanne and Estelle’s husband Matthieu are running the boulangerie.
I loved meeting everyone in France and the nostalgia of Lia going back to stay there again. I went on two French Exchanges in the 1980s and the book reminded me of my time then. There are some fabulous characters and it’s really heart-warming to see how Lia is welcomed by everyone. The food and the views are gorgeous and I really wanted to be in that bakery trying all the goodies!
Lia ends up meeting two handsome French men - Jean-Luc, whose family own the neighbouring cheese shop, and the vintner Theo. She ends up going on dates with both – which can never work out, of course. Who will she choose? Or won’t either man be right for her?
My only criticism about the book is that it’s a bit too much about sexual attraction for my tastes. I was more interested in the French family members and what was happening in their lives and at the boulangerie. But it’s beautifully written and I really enjoyed reading it.

Thank you so much to @rachelsrandomresources for having me on this book tour.

I adored this book and read it in just over a day it was such an enjoyable and easy read. I would love another book to follow and catch up and see what is going on with Lia jean -luc and the molins and how france is now treating Lia.

lia has broken up with her boyfriend and has just been put on gardening leave and isn't sure where her life is going at 36. she decides to go and stay in france with a family she lived with while on an educational trip years before. For lia it feels like she has never been away and with Jean-luc working next door in the cheese shop she has plenty to look forward to everyday. She also has the lovely theo trying for her attention but her heart seems to want Jean-luc. After some bad news for the family lia decides to do all she can to help them. in turn is this helping to decide her future once the sale of her former flat comes through could a new life in france await her.

I loved lia and jean-luc and all the molins they seem like a very close knit family and with the gorgeous Jean-luc in such close proximity that would brighten anyone's day. can they all pull together to make things work? I was rooting for them all and for Jean -luc I did worry she would end up with theo.

My Opinion

The Boulangerie on the Corner was a delightful novel. With some lovely characters and a charming setting this was a light-hearted read. I have read a few books by Susan Buchanan and all of them have been enjoyable.

The Boulangerie on the Corner is focused on Lia. Recently losing her job and breaking up with her live-in boyfriend, Lia decides to take a break from everything and visit a family she spent time with years ago, after her university studies were complete - in rural France. Shortly after arriving and feeling totally welcomed back, health issues with older Mollins' family members put Lia in the perfect place to help - by working in the Boulangerie -bakery. As the story unfolds, repercussions from the family issues cause financial strains on the Mollins, forcing decisions to be made about the business; in addition, Lia's romantic interest - that she totally did not expect, has her thinking about a permanent move to France. Between romance, the business, and the family difficulties, I was continually turning pages to see what was going to happen next.

I fully enjoyed the characters in this story. Lia was confused about her life's direction but was able to work through it and find purpose. Her boyfriend - Jean Luc, was a first-rate guy that had me cheering for him and Lia to get together. The other characters all contributed to the overall story plot, adding to the intrigue. It was a lighthearted read, that definitely had me wanting to eat pastries every time I started reading!!

Thank you Susan Buchanan for an early e copy of this amazing book in exchange for an honest review which is as follows

🥖🇫🇷 This book had me mentally relocating to France. No notice given. 🇫🇷🥐

I picked this up wanting a cozy escape and ended up emotionally invested in a French bakery, a found family, and two very swoon-worthy men.

Lia hits rock bottom (no job, fresh breakup — been there), and watching her press reset in a family-run boulangerie in Toulouse felt comforting in the best way. The baking, the warmth, the community… I could smell the bread through the pages.

And then the romance 👀
One moment I was convinced I knew who she should choose, and the next I was questioning everything. A charming cheesemaker or a confident vineyard owner? WHY must France be like this??

What really got me though was how much heart this story has — fighting for the places that feel like home, choosing yourself after heartbreak, and finding joy again when you least expect it. It’s soft, escapist, and exactly the kind of book I reach for when I need a hug in story form.

✨ Cozy
✨ Swoony
✨ Made me want to book a flight

If you love romance with strong “start over” energy, add this to your TBR.

Tell me — are you reading this for the bakery, the travel vibes, or the French men? 💬🥖🇫🇷

The Boulangerie on the Corner is the latest novel by new-to-me author Susan Buchanan, and it marks the beginning of an exciting new series called European Escapes.

Lia finds herself on gardening leave, anxiously awaiting news about her future. Recently separated from her partner, Freddy, and facing the possibility of losing her home, she is filled with heartache. With the encouragement of her best friend, Jules, she decides to reconnect with old friends in Toulouse, France—whom she last visited about 15 years ago. Hoping to rediscover her sense of peace and happiness, she doesn't anticipate romance; however, she is unexpectedly captivated by two charming local men. One thing she is certain of, though, is her desire to help her friends with their struggling boulangerie. Can she achieve this goal while also navigating her feelings for both handsome Frenchmen?

I found this novel to be delightful and easy to read. The Molins family captured my heart, particularly Estelle, who is so warm and eager to feed everyone! The characters are thoughtfully developed and likeable. Now, I’m eager to visit Toulouse and figure out how to get there (since I can't fly, I’ll travel by train or drive). I’m looking forward to reading the second book!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Lia has recently been told that her job may be no more, as well as that her relationship has ended. Now she’s not sure what or where to go next.

Talking to her best friend, she remembers a place she visited years ago as a young person. She goes to that place, in France, back with the family she lived with when she was last there. They still welcome and treat her as if she was a member of the family.

But, soon the family face a difficult time with their parents and the children’s grandparents.

Lia attracts the attention of two locals that are known to the family, Theo and Jean-Luc. They help her to forget about her ex, but who out of them both is right for her?

Then, after some thinking and brainstorming, Lia comes up with a way to help the family, the family who she’s never forgotten and have meant a lot to her.

Will Lia be able to help make the families worries and stress fade somewhat?

I loved the setting, the descriptions of the different places and the food, cakes and bread that made your mouth water.

Do have something sweet to hand when you read this book.

I highly recommend this book.

This is the first book I have read by Susan Buchanan and I can honestly say, I can’t wait to read another! This book is captivating. I felt like I was part of the family.
After a bad breakup, losing her job, and ultimately losing her home, Lia decides to take a vacation to visit the family she lived for three months with 15 years prior…in France! She fits right in as part of the family! While she is there, tragedy occurred within the family, not once, but twice. Lia steps up to help the family in their time of need. With her limited French, she takes on working at the boulangerie (bakery). Without any spoilers, the story continues through multiple twists and turn. Love. Hatred. Heartbreak. Healing. So many emotions. The story feels real…as if this was happening to my own family. I could not put it down (even though I had to translate a few French words, lol). I highly recommend this book and this amazing author!

I loved this beautiful story of hope, compassion and love.
Lia is in a funk and ends up retracing her steps to where she felt happiest, only to find that her job is no more and her idiot of a boyfriend ups and leaves her.
She finds herself in rural France, living with a family she spent time with as a youngster, and finally feels she belongs, especially when the family faces a huge personal hiccup.
There is plenty of sizzle as Lia finds herself with a couple of rather hot locals to take her mind off the idiot she has left behind. And could there be a little love..?
The hope and compassion come as she realises it may be in her hands to support the family; a family who mean more to her than she can explain.
All I know is that I want to end up in a boulangerie, with the sweet smells of fresh-baked bread and other 'chocolatines' every day and beautiful people all around me!

This is the Heart-warming story of Lia, losing her job, home and boyfriend. She find everything she needs with her French Family. who aren't related by blood but treat her like a daughter.

I loved this book as it reminded me of the summers I spent in Europe as teenager and when I first started work. The hot French men and the beautiful villages/towns. I remember going to the Boulangerie for my Aunty, I could smell and taste the food, as I read the book.

It is a story about returning to somewhere you loved and finding the same love still there for you and more. It is a tale of never giving up and of how bullies don't always win.

I loved the setting, of the book and the detailed descriptions of the places and the food.

It is a story I wanted to continue forever, I fell in love with the book and the main characters.

Another great, light hearted easy read from the author. They say things come in three’s, well for Lia’s that’s most certainly true. A break up from her boyfriend, their shared home on the market oh and She’s also put on garden leave, could things really get any worse.
Lia decides with a little help from her bestie to go to her happy place, France, with the Molins family where she stayed many years ago as a student.
No soon as Lia is on French soil things start to hot up and take a turn for the better in the shape of Théo and Jean-Luc.
The Molin family welcome Lia back in to their home and boulangerie where it’s all hands on deck. Though it seems some of Lia’s bad luck has followed her and the Molins are facing their own issues.

After breaking up with her cheating boyfriend and then discovering she has lost her job, Lia Alderney decides she needs to get away from it all and makes plans to go and visit the French family she stayed with in Toulouse fifteen years ago. What follows is a wonderful book filled with love and happiness that I absolutely adored reading. The author brought this story to life with her wonderful descriptions of the characters and the boulangerie owned by the Molins family. I could literally smell the aroma of the coffee and the fresh bread and cakes. Lia was a lovely character and it didn’t take her long to catch the eye of not one but two French men. I found this book to be like a warm hug and was a perfect read while curled up on the sofa with a warm drink in hand.

Health problems with older family members causes the Mollins to need to make serious changes and the need to sell their beloved Boulangerie. Super cute story about a woman trying to find her happy after her life seemed to go to Sh*t all at once (haven't we all be there?)

Lia decides to go back to the place she was truly happy, to see the Molin's, the family that own the Boulangerie on the corner that became her family away from home.
There she meets not one but two hot Frenchmen; Jean-Luc, they golden retriever cheese making neighbor and Theo, the sauve and sexy businessman.

Susan Buchanan is masterful at creating characters that are three dimensional and beautifully flawed.
I will highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to be taken on a mini vacay of romance, adventure and a little bit of heartbreak.

I loved this book!

They say bad luck comes in threes......for Lia that means losing her boyfriend and so her flat and on top of that, being put on gardening leave.

She decides that a trip back in time to the Molins family, who owned a boulangerie in Toulouse might be the solution. She had stayed with them just after university 15 years before.

Her best friend Jules tells her to revisit her past to find her future.

I thoroughly recommend this book and hope we revisit Toulouse in the not too distant future.

Lia's world is falling apart. She's lost her boyfriend, house and job. She visits her friend Jules who suggests she revisits a happy place. Lia had fond times in France with the Moulin family where she visited 15 years ago.

Lia is soon back in France and is welcomed by the family like a daughter. She's also pleased to meet a charming cheesemonger Jean-Luc and a family friend Theo. Could either help her get over her ex? However difficult times are ahead and Lia is happy to help.

A beautiful story showing friends are the family we choose and pulling together can overcome any problems.

Lia has broken up with her boyfriend and has lost her job as a graphic designer.
She decides to visit her adoptive French family who have a boulangerie in Toulouse, it was fifteen years ago since her stay but they welcome her with open arms.
Who doesn’t love bread fresh from the oven or tasty pastries but the boulangerie is in trouble!
A glorious visit to France which includes two handsome French men, Jean-Luc a cheese maker and Theo a vintner, what a dilemma for Lia as she ponders over where her future lies.

Lia loses her home, partner, and her job in one fell swoop. She retreats to France where she gets reacquainted with her host family from years ago and they envelop her.
It’s a heartwarming story and I loved how Lia tried to help out the family who were really struggling.
I thought Freddy should have been sent out to sea on his precious couch along with the vintner.
Jean-Luc is la yummy and I knew he was a keeper from the first word.
Jules was a great friend but the person I knew would do something integral was Madame L!!!
Thanks Rachel’s Random Resources for the advance copy.

Badly written with frequent grammatical and spelling errors. I should be amazed this author has a degree in French although I've met others with the same qualification who are a very long way from being bilingual. Typical of people who consider themselves fluent if they manage to pronounce 'Bonjour'. Sleazy dialogue at times, present tense throughout is lazy and frankly it's a waste of money. Only expected a light and amusing quick read, not a literary masterpiece but this book is best forgotten.

I love how Susan's writing is changing over the years. This was such a wonderful story that I can't stop thinking about. It was so real!

I feel like Lia's adventure in France after losing her home, her boyfriend and her job is something that happened to a friend of mine and as if I might even personally have been to the Molin's bakery and met them all and tasted some of their baked goods. That's how vivid it was all told and the characters and especially the whole Molin family who opened them arms up to Lia after 15 years were just amazing.

I would highly recommend that you grab yourself a copy of this book!

Vive la France!

I really enjoy Susan’s writing style. All of her characters (even the baddies) are likeable and relatable.
Take Lia (a strong female main character), add her best friend Jules (loyal and supportive), add a warm and welcoming french family, french bread and pastries, french cheese and wine, french markets and architecture and top that off with two handsome french suitors! Magnifique! Highly recommended!

Loved this book. As soon as i started reading, I just wanted to keep on reading.
Lia's life is a mess. Lost her job, split from her partner and having to sell her house. Her best friend makes think of her happiest memories, and there the adventures begin. A wonderful story that makes me want to go to France and eat fresh bread and pastries!
