Think road trips are all cute cafes and scenic stops? Think again. Johnny Trevisani’s The Serial Killer Travel Guide Across America takes you on a wild, creepy, and darkly hilarious tour of the U.S., visiting spots tied to some of the country’s most infamous killers. It’s morbidly fascinating and impossible to put down.

Styled like a retro 1960s travel guide, this book perfectly blends creepy facts with witty commentary. From eerie forests to sun-bleached suburbs, every stop comes with a mix of history, psychology, and just the right amount of gallows humor.

What makes it so addictive? The tone. It’s campy, clever, and weirdly fun without ever glorifying the crimes. It’s like true crime meets quirky road trip, and it totally works.

Johnny’s writing keeps you hooked, shivering one moment, laughing the next. By the end, you might even be double-checking your doors because yes, it gets that real.

If you’re into true crime, dark humor, or just want a book that’s totally offbeat, this one’s a must-read. Perfect for morbid curiosity on the couch or planning a road trip you probably shouldn’t take.

Fine enough quick read if you're looking for a book with short summaries about serial killers. The writing isn't great and you certainly don't get into detail, but the authors do share lesser known killers that might inspire your next reading list or podcast.

Insanely fun book about an insanely unfun topic. Extremely interesting approach to serial killers and geography that makes for memorable one-liners and hilarious commentary about locations. I very much appreciated the restraint of glamorizing the perpetrators of horrific events and instead exposing the overall depravity of humanity.

What a very intriguing, and terrifying travel guide

Welcome to America, and here is the most unique and terrifying travel guide, you will ever encounter. As the authors state, in the beginning, 'like a roadside attraction designed by Edgar Allan Poe on a meth binge.' that stood out for me, and then, I dove right in. There are things in life that no one wants to know about, and when they do, they wish they didn't. When something bad happens, no matter how bad, people can't ever believe it will happen to them, even when it does. This is a book that brings you across America, from region to region, to state to state. Not only does each region get an interesting introduction, but it tells you not just about the region, and what people know it ask, but also what they may or may not know, that it housed a serial killer, and in most cases, more than one, more than anyone knows. So, there are fun facts, and then you can dive into the mind of the killer, but from the outside looking in. I love the way this book was written, and I am a true crime fan, and fascinated, if that's the right word, about serial killers. Not because they kill, because no matter what, even if you try to understand the monster inside, they are still just humans, who do things that some cannot fathom. I like how the investigators find the killer, and how sometimes the mistakes that the criminal makes, gets them caught. Enjoy this read, and keep your doors locked, and your lights on when reading it. Especially, the part where you live. The Serial Killer Travel Guide Across America is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. I look forward to reading many more titles by this author. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that readers of this book, be kind, and also write a review.

**I won a copy of this from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review**

This could have been a fun book. However....

The author, who probably thinks he's super funny in real life, was snide and condescending through the entire book, which grew really old really quick. As to the serial killers, I found out more information on them in a two second Google search than he included in the book. The book was poorly researched, poorly written, and I couldn't wait to be done with it so I could delete it. If he'd focused more on the serial killer aspect and less on ripping every location to shreds with his contemptuous comments, this could have been a fun, interesting read. Instead it was a mess that I'd recommend skipping.

I found this to be an interesting slash entertaining look at serial killers across the US in a travelogue kind of way. Starting in the east and working to the far west, it highlighted serial killers from each region that it found noteworthy. It also randomly called out a place to visit in each case, mostly bars with sticky floors and a few other random places like a couple of stadiums, etc.

Lots of insights about serial killers and key locations in specific cities... all with more than a touch of humor. I enjoyed it. Laughed in several spots. If you like lighthearted takes on the bad/dumb/ridiculous parts of places and the serial killers who call them home, this is the book for you.
