ALL THREE EPISODES OF HEARTLESS, A SERIAL ROMANCE ARE INSIDE!
Elizabeth Lyons has one rule for herself: No Distractions.
No distractions basically translates into No Men; which definitely means HELL NO when it comes to Daniel Alexander.
After a chance meeting at a professional function Daniel is not interested in letting Elizabeth go. No matter how much Elizabeth tries to stay away from him, Daniel's not the kind of guy who lets something he wants walk out of his life. The question is, will she let him catch her or will her past fears ruin any chance of a future with him?

The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍 Character development: 😪😠🤐🥰
The heroine:Elizabeth - she walks in on Ben, her boyfriend of three years in flagrante, with his face between the legs of her roommate Kim. He claimed it was her fault because she is too ambitious and has dreams that are too lofty. Eight years later, she was a boss in an industry which thrived on people stomping on each other to climb to the top. She has no need of a man in her life.
The Hero:Daniel - founded and ran a web based Company in San Francisco and excelled at starting up and investing small companies and selling them for billions. He was young, hot, self-made and very good at his job.
The Story: Elizabeth is the youngest executive in the history of the movie studio she works for and is forced to attend a mixer for the top 30 under 30 in California. She is not looking forward to the event that is being held in San Francisco, but was glad she was able to take the company jet to SFO from Los Angeles. On her way there she browsed the profiles of the other 29 individuals (most of which owned the companies they worked at). She kept returning to the profile of Daniel, whom her PA suggested she meet at the event.
I liked this one, Elizabeth was intelligent and feisty. Daniel told her about his multiple friends with benefits situation and she told him that she would bet at least one of them had feelings for him and he insisted the opposite, thinking she was talking about a heartbreak she had suffered being that she has never met either of the women he had casual relationships with. Men are so stupid sometimes.
Daniel relentlessly pursues Elizabeth which is out of character for him, since he only had relationships for sex and only with girls he knew for years. Elizabeth enjoys his attentions but has been hurt in the past and not just by Ben.
This was a cute love story which was mostly about just the romance. Sometimes I like a romance for the sake of a romance without a ton of side storylines and this was a good one. Told in dual points of view, dual narration by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon who are two of my favorite narrators. Jason has an intelligent sounding deep voice and Erin has a soft and clear voice which is very pleasing.
Storyline: 4 stars out 5. Elizabeth walks into her shared apartment with her roommate to find her boyfriend cheating on her. He tells her that she is too driven and that men don't want girls like that. After that Elizabeth shut herself down from men. Then she meets Daniel. He starts to break down Elizabeth's walls. Also Daniel and Elizabeth have to go through trials before they can really connect. The book was good, I hated what Ben did to her. She really didn't deserve it. How does being driven make you heartless? That doesn't make any sense in my opinion. I understood why she pushed others away after that. It hurt hearing something like that. I love the relationship between Daniel and Elizabeth. It's funny and cute. I also wanted more of their relationship.
Characters: 4 stars out of 5. Elizabeth was hard, but soft at the same time. I was glad when she was finally able to let her walls down. I felt at times her character was too serious. She made me laugh sometimes. She was a good character.
Daniel was my favorite character. He was hilarious. He could not let Liz get away. He was cocky too. That probably made me love him more than Liz.
Writing Style: 3 out 5. The writing was okay. I felt the book was to short. Felt like there could have been more she could have done for these two. Too many blank pages also. I blame the way the book was formatted. (I just recently learned how to format for e-books.)
Why do we continue to perpetuate the stereotype that a “successful business woman” is the equivalent of unprocessed trauma and lack of emotional maturity? Gross!
This was a nice, light read about two strong characters, intelligent, driven, and business-minded, finding love when they least expected it and weren't looking, and the complications that came about. I enjoyed these characters and their story. Not overly dramatic, but could have also used a bit more depth. But an enjoyable escape.
I Loved everything about this set. A strong professional woman not looking for love. A strong professional man not looking for love. Then BAM a chance encounter, and a world tilted on it's access.
Don't get me wrong, I love kink and sexually explicit books as much as the next girl but frankly, there is just something about Daniel that I adored. I did not want to like Elizabeth, but in the end, I really did. Renews my faith that woman CAN have it all. Strong woman are hard to love and hard to let go. Strong dominate men who know what they want will never let go, can be those qualities and romantic. Who doesn't love that??? I love how Elizabeth dealt with her EX and his sister. LOVED. For me, there is nothing better than a strong professional woman who does not mince words. Stay it, move on. It doesn't have to irrational or potty mouthed, just to the point.
PS author Sterling-- I may need more about this couple.
Elizabeth Lyons has written off men and love.... She doesn't believe in all that. Especially after her ex cheated on her and told her it was her fault she wasn't paying him enough attention, and that set in motion her choices in life, to put her career and her ambitions first, but she didn't plan on Daniel Alexander entering her life and challenging all that she set herself to believe.
Daniel Alexander knows what he wants and he goes after it, and when the intriguing Ms Lyons bumps into him at a singles mixer he wants more of her, and he'll not stop until she's willing to give them a chance as a couple.
This was a sweet story of two successful individuals who meet and are attracted to each other but have lots of emotional baggage. Will they let the baggage out weigh the chance of them being together?
I liked this story, it was a sweet tale... no huge dramas, just a play on how the mind works and can make a mountain out of a mole hill.
I've had this series since it came out and was saving it for a quick read in between longer books. It was fun and I liked the characters! I just wish I could know more about them in a longer book!
So I was cleaning files on my computer and found this book, or rather episodes. I didn't remember reading it so I started and very soon realized why I don't recall it. It is not good.
But because I didn't read the whole... all 3 episodes but rather the beginning and then swiped along for a bit, it is only a review of what I observed. First, it's unrealistic. The people in real life can be cruel and alike, sure, but the ones written here are 'roll-my-eyes-this-doesn't-feel-real' kind. Boyfriend cheats, gets caught, acts guilty and whatnot one second, the next he's calling Elizabeth (main heroine) a bitch and apparently, she never noticed before that he's a chauvinistic pig whose mind is set on living life in the olden times when it was normal and rather cult-like for women to stay home, birth children, cook meals and embroider while men do all "the work", including sharing their bodies with other women whenever their "carnal needs" struck - like being slightly thirsty and throwing themselves at a random water source instead of going back home and drinking tap. No way would a guy who thinks like that hide that from a woman who's 'too ambitious' only to cheat on her in her apartment with her roommate because that's smart and covert.
Along the way, years after that incident, she meets a guy who's a playboy (as the title would suggest) and despite swearing off men (of course she did) she falls for the one guy who's dipped his stick everywhere and 'always gets what he wants' like women were candies in the store. Who else is she to fall for? There's a flashback-like description of a memory when her father suddenly left her mother for a younger woman after the wife has been supporting him financially and emotionally for years... he sat down to dinner and said "I'm leaving, you've been a great wife though, don't make a scene, I'm doing you a favor, and you Elizabeth, you're grown up, you should just shrug this off and btw, you're having dinner with me and my new piece and no, she's not a dude, watch your mouth" (I might be paraphrasing a bit but he still said all that).
There are also plenty of moments where she's weeping or sobbing or crying. And then there is the fact that he snaps at her during a phone call and then she 'pretend' snaps because he can be a jerk but she can only pretend to act accordingly to his behavior. Love this (not). There's also a moment when she's told he has a girlfriend even though he told her "he's broken up with everyone" (everyone?!) but she's given proof, sort of, and she runs away, sobbing, while he's chasing her. Later, he wants to talk to her and she doesn't, eventually, she's the one who calls and what? [quote] "What else is there? She said she was sorry for running away, I accepted, and we’ll fuck later. The end."[end quote] Yep, he really feels for her by then, clearly it's deep and meaningful.
Like I said before, I basically skipped over some chapters because I couldn't force myself to read them but I got to the end, after a fight and breakup, and makeup (it was all ridiculous, felt forced a lot), this is the last page, the second to last and last paragraph and what the author wrote: "Turning my head to look at Daniel as he stared out at the wonder before us, I felt so blessed and lucky that he hadn’t backed down all the times I’d tried to push him away. Before him, I hadn’t realized that what I needed was a strong man who wouldn’t listen to me when I said I wanted him to leave me alone." Need I copy and paste it again?! ...wouldn't listen to me when I said I wanted him to leave me alone? After reading the bits and pieces I did, this did not sound romantic or cute to me at all. It sounds like those laughable "men" who say 'when she says no, she really means yes'. That's a big red flag right there! A guy like that can do anything and say it was wanted by the other person. I know I want a guy fighting for me but not fighting me when I say no or "leave me alone". I'm not trying to make the MC, Daniel, into a bad man, he just wasn't a likable character, no one in this book was, least of all the main two.
I don't know how the file with this book got on my computer or rather what I was thining back when I got it, but I've deleted it and it felt great.
I chose to listen to this audiobook primarily because of its length. I thought it would not be a good idea to start listening to a full-length novel when the week is ending, and God knows if I could give myself some listening time over the weekend; thus, I jumped in and started listening to this one. The prologue was a painful chapter to read, and I should have known right then that the rest of the novella would be the same. I say this on a personal POV because the hero and the "antagonist" have a similar POV on love and relationship, I should say? And it sort of hits to the bone for me. It also made me think...nay, wonder why do men need to go through a lot of senseless relationships before finally deciding to settle down? Haven't their mom ever told them not to play with a woman's feelings? If anything, this is why I am giving this a star short of 5. These kinds of men still leave me baffled and angry all at the same time.
But as far as the writing goes, I have no problem with the author. If I am not mistaken, this is my first book from the author, and this one can make me say this won't be my last from her. The narrators gave a good job narrating this one. Erin Mallon may not be my go-to female narrator, but despite me still not digging her male voice (it still sounds like a croaking frog, sorry!), she did an excellent job with her female voice. Jason Clarke is still his sexy self on this one, as always. In closing, I think this if I am to choose a novella to let playas read, I will let them read this so that before they resume their playing ways, they have to see the angle what if
This series box set was really good. I loved that the first chapter had her ex screwing her best friend. & then her dad leaving her mom for a younger woman that he was cheating with. So it explained pretty quickly why Elizabeth was considered "heartless" and stayed single for 8 years. I really liked Daniel. It did kind of come off as him falling in love with her fast but regardless, this was a pretty good book. I got SO angry when Kate, Daniels ex, called Elizabeth crying saying how she loved Daniel and she knows Elizabeth is such a good person so since she is so heartbroken, Elizabeth should break up with him. AND SHE DID. That was the most annoying thing ever. Good thing Daniel handled that crap like a boss and the ending was a good one for them :)
I enjoyed the audible version of this story. It was a nice filler. Can't fault the writing or the characters, they were likable and interesting. DANIEL was a charmer who knew he could have anyone, and ELIZABETH brought him to his knees were he wanted nobody else but her.
It is a good story and maybe if I hadn't read this plot so many times before I wud have marked up... But this PLOT. BACHOLOR BILLIONAIRE. Strong woman who changes there mindset in an insta moment. OW drama even though the H insists he didn't love them but the loved him obsession.
Elizabeth Lyons has one rule for herself: No Distractions. No distractions basically translates into No Men; which definitely means HELL NO when it comes to Daniel Alexander. After a chance meeting at a professional function Daniel is not interested in letting Elizabeth go. No matter how much Elizabeth tries to stay away from Daniel, he's not the kind of guy who lets something he wants walk out of his life. The question is, will she let him catch her? Unfortunately this book was just too sickly sweet for me so much so I needed to visit the dentist after reading it. The story line is predictable, the characters were sugary sweet and the sex was mediocre, just not my type of book.
I absolutely loved Daniel and Elizabeth's story. I love reading about a strong female lead character. She knew what she wanted out of her life and wasn't going to let anything get in her way. I loved that Daniel wouldn't give up either. He immediately changed his personal lifestyle so that she would know she was it for him. I loved how Daniel was able to handle Elizabeth and the things she saw as issues she had. He wasn't intimidated by her strength. In fact, it was one of the things he loved about her. This book was just perfect.
This was the first for me from this author and I’m not sure how I feel about this book.
It came across very juvenile and cringey in the dialogue between the characters. I mean Elizabeth upon meeting Daniel at the mixer felt so childish that I just couldn’t understand how these were two grown professionals. Plus the whole, can’t live without you after the first meeting was a head scratcher.
These characters felt more like teenagers than grown adults.
I certainly want to give this author another try but this book was mediocre.
Daniel Alexander is an awesome book. We meet obviously Daniel and Elizabeth. These two workaholics never had time for a relationship. They were basically married to their work. But upon meeting we see the fireworks go off. The author has such a way of telling a story that we feel all the emotions that the characters are going through. I give this book a 5 star rating. Once you start you won’t be able to stop!
I don't care to listen how hero has 2 friends with benefits and listening to him go on and on about the women he's been with and how women constantly throw themselves at him, while the heroine probably hasn't been with anyone for 8 years because of one bad experience and some fool telling her nonsense. And even Jason Clark's voice doesn't sound like it usually does. And even if it did, I wouldn't be able to finish this.
This is a romance between Daniel, a successful business in San Francisco and Elizabeth a successful woman living in southern California. Elizabeth has not dated for the last 8 years, following a breakup with Ben, who she got with her roommate. She's given up men. Until she meets on determined Daniel who has friends with benefits but now wants Elizabeth! Well It was a slow burn, due to Elizabeth not making up her mind. That I didn't like as much but it is an entertaining read.
i read the series altogether last year and honestly, even tho i was busy with uni, i was only waiting to take a break from studying for my exams to continue reading. I’d rate this series 3,5 out of 5 stars BUT keeping in mind it was written around 2014 so it obviously was full of clichés and you know, it totally embraced the mid 2010s vibe. Besides that (which is probably the only negative thing i have to say about these books), i had so much fun reading the series because some of the scenes were so funny that i was literally lmao. Ultimately, i was kinda disappointed by the ending but overall, it was a good and funny book series.
I want to complain it was too short, but I liked Daniel and Elizabeth too much to dwell on that. Very easy read, both were super like-able and I rooted for them the whole time. Just enough outside source of drama to keep the story going. Barbara needs her own book pronto!
Why I loved: I love J Sterling. The strong FMC and her take no shit attitude. The cocky MMC and his desire to get what he wants. The shade of the ex boyfriend. The drama that unfolds. It was a great quick listen (Love Erin Mallon!!!) and makes me want more J Sterling and more Erin Mallon.
2.5 stars rounded high because of the narrators. The story needed one or two more stages of copy editing and proofreading to remove ableist language, correct wandering body parts, and improve characterization of the main leads.
This was precious, a couple bumps to intensify the plot but nothing too crazy and she resolved them in the best way! Thank you J for creating another amazing read, for all the romantics that love a business trope and a strong woman, this one’s for you!!
This was a nice listen, short and wow so much drama awkward towards the end. Hooray for the good friend that points out the bs! 😁 OMG...a Billy Madison reference 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was a really quick series..(episodes)… This story moved fast but was packed with action, drama, lust, heartache… did I mention..love? Great read!!
Loved this! It was a quick read by had me sucked in from the beginning! Go read if you haven’t. I need to find myself a Daniel ❤️ fast pace romance, but when you know, you know -‘d you fight for it!
