These fun poems are also rhyming riddles, and if you get stuck trying to figure them out, just peek at the illustrations for some help. I especially liked that the riddles were diverse, covering activities and objects from the Titanic to waterslides to marbles. A wide array indeed!

Personal reaction - I like this poetry book because it has many poems that really focus on shape and lyrical. These poems also rhyme and have a good rhythm to them, so they are easy to read and enjoy. They also really cultivate thought as they are riddles you wish to solve.

Purposes:
-Read aloud ages 4-8
Enjoyment/Enrichment:
-These poems flow and have a good rhythm to them so they are very fun to read aloud and share.
-These poems would be very fun to share aloud, perhaps to close the day with a riddle poem, to keep children constantly connected to poetry and giving them something to ponder and critically think about to decide what the poem is talking about.
Curriculum:
-Poetry unit specifically studying poems with good rhythm and shape.
-This would be a fun way to get kids into enjoying poetry and encourage them to write their own during a poetry unit, because it allows students to consider poetry that rhymes and is easy to follow.

I got this because someone told me her two-year-old grandchild loved it. It was a bit beyond our grand-daughter's understanding because so many of the objects (like roller coasters) were still outside her experience, but her mother enjoyed it. I expect Bella will, too, in a couple years. The poems are delightful. The layout and print accentuate the meaning of the text. Illustrations in the borders (like the gum-balls on the cover) give clues to the answer (assuming the child has ever had a gum ball.)

Funny and clever. Illustrations give away the answers to the poems/riddles, so have someone read it to you if you want to be surprised!
