"When upon the electus lay,
the crown, the amulet, the bracelets Fey,
light and dark will she command,
peace or destruction upon this land."

Sophia Bennett has spent the last seventeen years being perfectly ordinary.  Now that she's moving away and heading off to college, she hopes this will bring a little more excitement to her life.  Before she says goodbye to the end of summer, however, she plans to confess her feelings to her secret crush, Jake - her biggest fear.

At least, until terrifying creatures crash her birthday party and try to kill her.

Now, Sophia is thrust into the world of half-fairy, half-human beings called faeids, and her trio of rescuers turn out to have secrets of their own.  Pulled into the middle of an ancient struggle between good and evil, time is against her as she must help keep a powerful magic from falling into the wrong hands.

Can Sophia solve the mystery of the Lilith links in time to save her loved ones, or will the enemy triumph and destroy all that she holds dear?

Sophia Bennett is having the best summer ever: interning with a genome laboratory, cultivating bacterial colonies for eight hours a day; going to sappy movies with her best friend Angie every weekend; and daydreaming about her high school crush Jake the rest of the time. The only thing Sophia looks forward to more is her eighteenth birthday and celebrating with Angie. In fact, after graduating high school and enjoying the last days of a particularly glorious summer, preparing for college and occasionally catching Jake's eye are perhaps the most important issues on Sophia's mind.

And, indeed, those are the only things that cause her any particular worry...at least, until the night of her birthday party. Suddenly, Sophia is thrust into a world that she never knew existed, and finds herself being swept into the middle of the eternal struggle between good and evil. Time is apparently against her as she and her new friends seek to take possession of an anciently powerful magic before it falls into the wrong hands.

Drafted into a war that she initially had no idea was being waged, will Sophia be able to solve the mystery of the Lilith Links in time to save her loved ones, or will the enemy ultimately triumph and destroy everything that she cherishes? When everything she knows about her life is subsequently challenged - Sophia must decide what she is truly fighting for - living an authentic life, or living the kind of life she has always wanted.

I must say that I really enjoyed reading this book. Sophia and her friends were so well drawn and I could really sympathize with their plight. I was immersed in the plot right away, and found myself immediately swept along into the story. In my opinion, this was a well-developed story filled with several unexpected plot twists. I have always loved reading books featuring the Fae, and am wondering where the next book in the series will lead. I would give this book a definite A!

The Avalon Relics: Lilith links is about Sophia a girl whose barely graduated from high school and just has to worry about college and unrequited love or so she thinks. On Sophia's eighteenth birthday her parents give her two golden bracelets and is then sent on her way to her party with her friend Angie. Unbeknownst to her those bracelets are not just normal bracelets, they have power and there are those who are seeking them to satisfy their own evil desires. And so in comes Michael, Eva, and Rafe three strangers who come just in time to save Sophie.

To be completely honest as much as this book intrigued me, it didn't live up to my expectations. The characters fell pretty flat, I felt no connection towards any of them. And as for the plot it felt a bit too predictable. I'd figure out what was going to happen ahead of time and that also ruined my enjoyment quite a bit.

The romance between Sophia and Michael felt a bit rushed as well, I couldn't really feel the love between them. I mean, sure they saved each other and kissed quite a few times but I didn't really feel an attachment towards them as a couple.

Overall, although I was disappointed, I believe that this book could improve and the next installment might be better. Why? Becuse I read this book in less than two days and it does have potential. There was quite a bit of action, magic, and adventure going on in this book and I'm sure those who enjoy these genre's will like it.

Received in exchange for an honest review.

The Avalon Relics: Lilith Links

Magic. Action. Humor. Romance. Mystery. Suspense. The Avalon Relics: Lilith Links encompassed all of the things I look for in a great read. This is perfect for fans of The Mortal Instruments.

Sophia Bennett is an ordinary girl living a very ordinary life right up until her 18th birthday. This is the beginning of Sophia’s journey to discovering the truth about herself and her destiny. Unbeknownst to her, she is in possession of the powerful Lilith Links- bracelets infused with great fairy magic. When Dark Ones crash her birthday party to capture her and the bracelets, a group of young faeids (fairy-human hybrids) come to her rescue. As Sophia, is thrown into this new magical world, she must decide who she can trust with the truth and her heart.

There is a lot I liked about this book. The first thing that immediately caught my attention were the characters and their friendships. I love the strong bond that Sophia has with Angie, and how they have each other’s backs throughout the story. I also enjoyed the developing friendship between Sophia and Michael. It was the right amount of sweet and flirty. Rafe and Eva are great supporting characters and I hope we get to know them more in future books. I also thought it was cute how they call themselves the “Fearsome Five.”

Yen did a great job with crafting the magical action sequence at the end of the book. It was intense, thrilling, and filled with anticipation because I didn’t know who would make it out alive. Mini spoiler: not everyone does.

There were also a couple of twists that surprised me. I had my suspicions about one of these, but the other was a great reveal. I look forward to seeing how both of them play out in the rest of the series.

I was impressed with how clearly Yen created the magical system/world for her story. The rules of magic and its origin were simple to understand, which made it easy to dive right into this world. I really loved the description of the Academy, which in my mind is a gigantic library with a treehouse. How cool is that? I’m definitely intrigued by the magical relics and their purpose in saving the fairy world. I’m also eager to visit the Court of Light and meet more fairy families.

Overall, I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. I will definitely be continuing the series to follow Sophia and the Fearsome Five through their crazy magical adventure.

Thank you to Jennifer Yen for reaching out to me for this review. This is no way affects my thoughts, opinions, and feelings expressed in this review.

The Avalon Relics:
Lilith Links
By J.L. Clark

Sophia Bennett's eighteenth birthday is one she'll never forget and one that will change her life forever. Sophia's known for her scientific abilities and interests, though she'd like to be popular enough to have one boyfriend, but her high school crush Jake doesn't seem to know she exists except as a sounding board for his newest girlfriend.

Fortunately for Sophia she has her best friend Angie. And Angie is determined that Sophia's eighteenth birthday will be perfect. What starts out as an almost perfect evening (almost because Jake brings his girlfriend) quickly deteriorates when unknown people crash the party with the intent purpose of targeting Sophia.

But before Sophia can take the time to figure out what is happening she is whisked away to somewhere else. But an even bigger concern is why Sophia of all people is being targeted.

What follows is a journey of discovery - a discovery of who she truly is and why the bracelets she received from her mother are so important.

This story will appeal to fans of YA Fantasy. And the bits of romance will also appeal to teen readers.

Overall this book was attention grabbing, so much so that I'm interested to read additional books in this series. There were a couple of times that the I got bogged down in some of scenes - I think it had to do with slow moving detailing and a few tense structure issues (that may have been only in my review copy). But once I immersed myself in the story after any break (or pause in reading) I found myself drawn in, wondering what would happen next.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sophia doesn't want a big party for her 18th birthday but her best friend insists. She gives in to Angie and everyone close to her is invited to the party. Her long-time friend and secret crush, Jake, shows up with his ex-girlfriend in tow and that is just the start of the night's downturn. Suddenly there are men after her and she is whisked away by strangers and enters a world that she never knew existed and she must discover several truths if she is to save the ones she loves.
I liked Sophia from the start. She seemed like such a typical teen. There was the crush she's had on her best male friend that he is clueless about, parent interaction, best friend gossip and just everything normal. Angie surprised me at the start but I liked where she fit in. Michael, yeah, I liked him too, along with the other characters. The story flowed well and I look forward to more from this author!
Absolutely a good start to a new series that I plan to read. 4/5

Finished this book in a day! It has this Shadowhunters feel to it, but with a likeable MC and a love tangle, and friendships and FAMILY?!!

Sophia is a character that at first seem like the typical YA Jane but everything goes down south, she behaves realistically for someone who had a lot of things happen to her at one go.

Also THAT LOVE TANGLE, whoo boy. It is a triangle in a sense, but I’m not even sure anymore at the end of the book. I’m just glad she chose the right guy.

Also the mystery that surrounds her and the artifact (the Lilith links). Didn’t get to see much of the fairy world yet, but I do like how their backstory goes. I just wished the villain wasn’t so obvious, although I suppose they’ll get a lot deeper in the second book.

All in all, it’s an enjoyable read; and a good start to a series!
