Shain Rose is an author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She fights for love one word a time. Those happily ever afters can be difficult to get to sometimes!
When she isn't writing, she's spending the days with Doc G, Liv and Gray Gray, and their wild golden retriever. She and Doc G drink way too much coffee, eat way too much candy, and fight like they've been married for hmm how long has it been now?
Life is good when the kids are behaving.
On the off chance she's not writing or spending time with family and friends, she's calling them to talk. And if no one answers.... then she's reading and watching trashy TV.
This was my first Shain Rose book - I am now a fan and will definitely be reading more of her books.
What's inside: Single Dad Forced Proximity Secret Society Mafia Slow Burn Yearning & Tension Teacher/Nanny
Behind Closed Doors definitely grabbed a hold of me and kept me turning the pages. I devoured this in less than 24 hours!
Mia is a summer school teacher at an exclusive school, teaching second grade children of wealthy and elite families. When she is waiting with one of her students, Franny, to be picked up, the school is attacked by a group of trained killers and bullets fly. When the dust settles, Franny's father Jameson brings Mia back to his home for protection and then convinces her to give up her position at the school and stay on as a private teacher and nanny for the summer.
As Mia and Jameson are forced to be around each other, she begins to discover that the life he leads may not be that of the doctor she was lead to believe that he is. The tension starts to burn hot and they both feel a strong attraction to the other, but try to fight it since they are from different worlds. Their secrets start to unravel as they bond over their mutual love for Franny, and then their desire starts to blaze hotter, until it ignites.
This books had some great character development. I really got to know and love Mia, Jameson and Franny, as well as some of the side characters. The tension and yearning were strong and the spice was perfect. I stayed up WAY too late one-more-chaptering myself because I didnt want to put it down. If you enjoy a good modern day mafia/secret society romance with forced proximity and lots of tension, then you shoukd definitely read this book.
Thank you to Kensington Books, Between the Chapters and Shain Rose for a physical ARC of this book.
When Blackstone Academy, the private academy where Mia Darling is teaching for the summer is attacked, the safest place for her is Behind Closed Doors.
A prisoner within the walls of Paradise Grove, an elite community unto itself, Mia learns that there is more to Franny’s dad, Jameson Knight, than meets the eye.
With so much on his plate and still reeling from the death of his father and wife, Jameson is a little bristly. He tries so hard to quell his obsession with Mia, but she got under his skin in a big way! I loved their banter and the push and pull. Honestly, I’m not typically a big fan of a single parent trope, but one of my goals this year has been to read new–to–me authors, and somehow I had never read a book by Shain Rose. Despite the single parent trope, this one really called to me and I’m glad I gave in! Franny immediately stole my heart and I loved watching Mia go all mama bear for her, particularly against Jameson. I’m looking forward to the rest of the HEA’s coming out of Paradise Grove!

Teacher turned nanny x mega rich, morally gray leader of a secret society? Yeah… the premise alone had me locked in💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
There’s a lot of drama, hidden identities, power plays, and “nothing is what it seems” energy. I liked the secret society, mafia-esque undercurrent and the found family moments, those parts kept me invested and gave the story some edge.
Overall solid, just felt a bit repetitive at times especially in the middle and didn’t fully hit like I wanted. It picked up at the very end, which is unfortunate. Still an easy, entertaining read if you’re in the mood for messy rich people with secrets and tension.
*Thank you RB Media for the audio🎧, and Kensington for the arc*
I absolutely LOVED this book. I have sooo many feelings and if my annotated copy doesn’t screamed obsessed I don’t know what will. Shain continues to never disappoint and just adds to my obsession of her books.
This does start a new series for her but I always love the Easter eggs of getting other characters from other books. Knowing how they all are interconnected in a way just makes all their stories so much for fun. Plus we all know I’m a SUCKER for the Hardy boys so going back to them always makes my day better.
This book is Jameson and Mia’s story. What starts out as a recluse billionaire single dad raising his daughter and the school teacher hired to teach summer school for an elite group of kids, quickly changes to Mia being not so subtlety kidnapped for the summer to be a live in nanny/teacher. But watching Jameson constantly fight internally with himself to not cave to the darling Mia it’s just a fun ride!
Mia has her own past and doesn’t shy away from the dark that is Jameson world. She may not have grown up knowing all he does and living that life style but even with everything that tore her down she is determined to find light in everything around her. Taking in the moments and the small things, but also NOT afraid to spar with Jameson when he tries to be the demanding boss he thinks he is 😉
I loved getting these twos story and I can’t wait for what is to come. I hope we get more of Mia’s sister but only time will tell. We get to meet soooooooooo may we Character’s in this book and I just ate them all up. Soo many favorites to come.
I absolutely loved this mafia romance! Nothing gets me more hyped than a fierce FMC who refuses to back down and stands unapologetically in what she believes. Mia was that and so much more.
She’s not the kind of woman you’d expect to thrive in this world, yet she goes head-to-head with Jameson without hesitation. She challenges him, pushes him, and fiercely protects his daughter, even from his own reckless decisions. The tension and yearning between these two? Absolutely contagious. I was eating it up the entire time.
And the side characters? Every single one of them was a treat. I need all of their stories immediately.
The audiobook narration was perfection. Erin Mallon is one of my all-time favorite female narrators. She has such a gift for bringing FMCs to life and making you feel everything. James Cassidy delivered the perfect raspy, dangerous mafia man vibes as Jameson. Their performances elevated the story in the best way.
For me, this book was a total home run. I almost feel bad for anyone who picks it up in the wrong headspace and doesn’t fall in love with it the way I did. I cannot wait to add this one to my shelf.

ARC Review — Behind Closed Doors by Shain Rose Release Date: February 24, 2026
Behind Closed Doors hooked me from the very first chapter and refused to let go. This was my first time reading anything by Shain Rose, and I can confidently say it won’t be my last. The story blends mafia romance, forced proximity, a secret society, and a fiercely protective single dad, basically all my favorite tropes wrapped into one wild ride.
Mia, a dedicated summer school teacher at an elite academy, is just finishing up her day when the school is suddenly ambushed by trained attackers. Chaos erupts, bullets fly, and she barely manages to protect her student, Franny. When the smoke clears, Franny’s father, Jameson, shows up, and that’s when Mia’s life takes a sharp turn. Instead of letting her go home, he forces her to leave with him “for her safety,” bringing her to his heavily secured estate.
The more time Mia spends in Jameson’s world, the more she realizes he’s not the clean cut doctor his daughter believes he is. There are shadows he won’t talk about and danger lurking just beyond the edges of their fragile peace. Their chemistry is undeniable, but they both know they shouldn’t cross that line, he’s a single father with secrets, and she’s a woman who suddenly has everything to lose.
This book was a fast-paced, twisty, addictive read. I loved the characters, the suspense, and the slow burn that turns into a full-on inferno. Huge thank you to Kensington Publishing and Shain Rose for providing an ARC
If Shain Rose writes it, there’s no shot that I won’t absolutely love it. I didn’t realize how much I missed the diamond syndicate until I was in it again.
Behind Closed Doors follows Mia and Jamison, Mia the summer school teacher that Jamison kidnaps after a school shooting and forces to nanny for him for the rest of the summer. Of course chaos ensues and Mia is thrust into the world of the diamond syndicate and what it means living in “paradise”.
Jamison is a syndicate surgeon and the leader of it all. Used to getting his way, it’s so much fun watching him get flustered and angry at Mia’s lack of disregard for his rules. The tension between those two is torturous and delicious.
I primarily listened to the audio for this one and I’m so glad I did. The synopsis promises a desperate housewives esque style story and the audiobook really delivered. The female narrator Erin Mallon absolutely captured that iconic storytelling that is so nostalgic for me from that show. James Cassidy also did a spectacular job, I was so immersed.
I’ve loved Shain Roses’ billionaire series, but her mafia books are just unparalleled. I absolutely adore the world she’s created and the cast of characters. One of my favourite parts about these interconnected stand-alones is you get a decent amount of time with previously loved characters too as their ties and relationships become just as integral to the story!
Whether this is your first of tenth Shain Rose book, I’m confident you will adore Jamison, Mia and Franny just as I do.
This is my first book from Shain Rose. I am pleased to say I have added Rose to my favorite authors. Check your triggers before reading. Single Dad, choking, kidnapping, Un-aliving, spicy content and more….
This is the first book that I have read that actually gave me butterflies and feeling exactly what Mia was feeling. The story line kept me hooked and didn’t want to put down. The gigantic plot twist was magnificent never saw it coming. You need no MUST add this to your TBR. This Mafia, billionaire, suspense with hot sexy content, comedy will come close to your heart and will drive you crazy all at the same time. Can’t wait for #2 of this series!!!!! #behindcloseddoors #shainrose #goodreads #arc
Title: Behind Closed Doors Author: Shain Rose Series: Kept in Paradise #1
What to expect: *Mafia romance *Boss x Employee *OW drama
Once the book is published I will come back to my review and update in more detail. For now, this book is just not for me. This is absolutely a personal trigger thing, not a reflection of how the book was written.
If you are triggered by OW drama then you will want to stay away from this book. Every chapter has OW on page and/or mentioned.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this title.
Narration by Erin Mallon & James Cassidy. These two put on a fantastic performance full of angst & emotion!!

What to Expect: Single Dad Forced Proximity Secret Society Mafia Slow Burn Yearning & Tension Teacher/Nanny
✨My Thoughts✨
This was my first book by Shain Rose & it absolutely won’t be my last. From the first chapter I was sucked into this story line & it never once let up!!
This book had the mafia romance vibes, with single dad, forced proximity & so much yearning & tension between these two!! This was definitely a bit of a slow burn, but boy did it heat up!!
Jameson was such a morally gray man with secrets, but the protective dad of Franny. I absolutely loved that little girls character! She was so loveable & fun! Mia is Franny’s teacher and finds herself intertwined in the life & secrets hidden by Jameson & his world.
This book was such a twisty, fast-pasted, and absolutely addictive ride!! The added suspense and secrets had me so invested & I highly recommend this one!!
Thank you Kensington, Shain Rose, & RBmedia for this early reading/listening opportunity!!
First of all thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
I absolutely loved this story! Jameson is a BA MMC and a possessive of what he cares about. I loved how he loved his daughter Franny and cared for her and her nanny. Mia (the nanny) was a BA FMC that has no fear! The banter was good. It is pretty dark, but Mafia Romances usually are. It gives Tarnished Empire vibes. It’s suspenseful, humorous, violent, and spicy! 🥵 So good! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Behind Closed Doors is a dark mafia romance that starts off very strong with an exciting scene where the FMC, who is the MMC’s child’s teacher, is forced into an underground bunker at the school when a rival mafia gang shoots up the school in an attempt to kidnap the child and the MMC (with the help of his men) swoops in to save the day.
I was so happy with this opening and hoped the rest of the book would follow suit but alas, it did not. The rest of the book was choppy and disjointed. The instalust was distracting and the MMC was changed from a bad boy to a golden retriever with a quickness.
There were also many grammatical errors and typos throughout.
Overall, it was an enjoyable book for what it is, but could use some work to make it better.
Ok this was my first time reading Shain Rose and omg I’m now a fan
Mia is summer school teacher at an exclusive school teaching second grade of wealthy families. When she was waiting with one of her students, franny to be picked up the school is attacked by a group of trained killers and bullets fly. When everything is done Franny’s father Jameson brings Mia back to his home for protection he convinces her to drop her position at the school and stay on as a private teacher/nanny for the summer.
As they both are forced to be around each other she begins to discover that the life he leads may not be that of the doctor she was lead to believe that he is. But when the tension starts to burn hot they start feeling the strong attraction between them but try to fight it as they live in different worlds. I absolutely devoured this book. Everything about kept me hooked from the first page. The tension and yearning was amazing I was giggling.
Thank you so much Kensington Publishing for letting me be a ARC reader for this!
This was a top 2026 read for me and we are only 7 days into the year! 5⭐️ 3🌶️
Single Dad Mafia Secret Society Touch her and Die vibes Dark Romance
The spice was spicing, the plot was plotting, the banter was bantering, and the build up was absolutely worth it.
It was too easy to get invested in the characters and the story line. I was so mad having to skirt my reading to partake in adult responsibilities. How rude of my bills needing me to go to my 9-5. 😂
I truly enjoyed this one! I'm not sure what I was expecting, well, I mean I thought this was actually a fantasy book based on the cover, but clearly this was a mafia romance. I do like mafia romances, but haven't read one in awhile. This reminded me why I enjoy them so much. I loved the plot of this one. I liked that the FMC was a teacher and she was put in a situation unexpectedly. I loved how this was an employee-boss romance with forced proximity and a little bit of kidnapping. This is the first book I've read by Shain Rose, and I already know that this will not be my last. I loved how this was written and couldn't get enough.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC copy that I won in a giveaway. This does not affect my review.
Shain Rose did what she always does… she reeled me in and refused to let go.
I’ve read a good amount of ARCs from Shain Rose, so being welcomed onto this team feels extra special. Her stories always deliver power, tension, morally gray men, and that just one more chapter energy I fall for every time.
Behind Closed Doors is a dark, addictive, secret society romance wrapped in luxury, danger, and slow burn tension and I devoured it way faster than I planned to.
Mia is a summer school teacher at an elite, highly guarded school who does not ask enough questions (relatable).
Jameson Knight is a powerful, elusive single dad who arrives every day like clockwork to pick up his daughter and smiles only for her.
Then one day… bullets fly, secrets spill, and Mia is pulled into a world she was never meant to see.
What follows is forced proximity at its finest. A massive estate. A live in nanny arrangement she didn’t exactly sign up for. A man who is dangerous, demanding, protective, and clearly hiding everything.
The tension between Mia and Jameson is THICK. Every look, every conversation, every moment feels charged. He’s all control and calculation. She’s defiant, compassionate, and not intimidated by his power and watching her stand her ground against him? Chef’s kiss.
I loved Mia’s heart and resilience, Jameson’s internal war, and how Franny is the emotional center pulling them together.
The found family moments, the familiar faces from previous books, the secret society threads…it all layered together so well. And yes… ✨ the spice was spicing ✨ the plot was plotting ✨ the banter was bantering
Tropes: 💎Single Dad 💎Forced Proximity 💎Secret Society 💎Mafia Adjacent 💎Teacher/Nanny 💎Touch Her and 💀 If you love powerful men unraveling, women who don’t back down, and romances where danger lives behind closed doors then this one is for you. 💎🖤
Thank you to Kensington Publishing for the warm welcome and the trust 🖤 Heart-in-pinkie promise I get to read the rest of this series because I am READY for everything that’s coming🤞🏾💎
Wonderfully written. I remember Jameson from the other books in this shared world. And was patiently waiting for his HEA. He comes off as this carefree almost goofball in the other books however, thus one he is all growley man perfection!
Shain Rose can do no wrong. Behind Closed Doors gave me everything I needed from a mafia-like society with a man who literally does what he wants no matter the cost. Mia is a teacher whose connection to one of her students gets her “trapped” in a situation that is tough to get out of. Jameson is a single dad who will literally do anything for his daughter, including taking her favorite teacher to their private-idillic home in their ultra-swanky community. Watching Jameson encourage/force Mia to stay under his supervision for safety gives the BEST element of forced proximity and their fireworks are immediate. This romance has a mafia/dark/secretive element that turned out so good. Thank you Kensington Books & Shain Rose for this ARC!
✨ALC provided through NetGalley for an honest review✨
Behind Closed Doors is a single father, nanny/teacher, found family, secret society romance. Mia was hired as a teacher for a high security elementary school for the summer watching over a small group of kids. While waiting for the last parent to pick up his little girl, the school becomes under attack! Mia and her student are locked away in a safe room while waiting for help and there on the cameras she witnesses Jameson Knight (mysterious father of the sweetest little girl in her care) come to the rescue and kill someone in cold blood! Now Mia’s small boring little world becomes so much more when Jameson kidnaps Mia for her protection and makes her their live in nanny/teacher for the rest of the summer for his child.
The slow burn was so good in this book, though at times I wanted to strangle Mia for being so dense to the feelings Jameson had for her 😂 I loved this mafia type secret society that the author created for this book, and the rest of the members of this club were an interesting bunch. I really enjoyed the family dynamic that was created for Mia and Jameson along with his little girl. And the spice was spicing in this book!
The audiobook was narrated in duet and was really enjoyable. Erin Mallon was a good choice for Mia, and James Cassidy’s voice was perfect for the commanding presence of Jameson Knight. This was the first time I’ve heard of this author and will definitely be checking out more of their work in the future ❤️
Excuse me Erin but how did you nail Mia's voice so perfectly! Your voice is exactly what I pictured when I first read Behind Closed Door as an E-book ARC. I think I am going to have to go down a rabbit hole to find other books you have Narrated!
Original ebook arc review: “Ask me anything you want, and I’ll answer what I can. The rest will be met with silence, because I hate dishonesty.”
I love everything about this book. Key things that hooked me:
- Franny (the daughter) knowing how to push every single person's buttons to get what she wants - Communication! I am not one for a miscommunication trope and while not every secret was shared the Communication between the main characters was top tier - "Please Daddy", IYKYK - The adaptability and strength of the FMC - The pot plants have names
This book grabs you right from the start. The premise is interesting, the action comes fast, and there are some dangling questions that leave you wondering.
I wasn't sold on Mia for much of the book - while she clearly adores her students, her professionalism is questionable. She's also quite reckless with the lives of everyone except her student. But I can look past that because, dang, does this book sizzle!
Jameson is the epitome of a mafia boss with a huge soft spot for his daughter. He's possessive, protective, and aggressive. While in real life, those probably are giant red flags, here it was perfection.
The character growth from both Mia and Jameson was great. I saw most of the ending coming, but it was still satisfying when people got what was coming to them.
Thank you Kensington Publishing for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
6⭐️ ARC REVIEW : My heart :( my poor poor heart, i love them so much is physically hurts knowing i have to wait to see them again. When i tell you this story means everything and more to me i mean it more than I’ve ever meant anything!! Mia & Jameson are my absolute babies and i would do anything and everything to protect them, i will accept 0 criticism on this book ever it’s a damn masterpiece. This was such a rollercoaster of emotions and one hell of a ride but i wouldn’t change it for the world Shain did such an amazing job with this to the point i have never felt so deeply for characters until now. Mia reminds me of myself a lot with her past trauma and the way she would do anything and everything for the people she cares about and then there’s Jameson the crime boss who hates the world but is soft only for her and his daughter and he’s incredibly hot I’m no better than Mia because how could you resist that man. And then we have little Franny the heart and soul of the story and the sweetest funniest little girl ever. And don’t get me started on how incredible the found family is in this because im going to need a book for every member of that house right now!!!
Single Dad , Check Leader of a Private Crime Organization , Check Starting Wars behind his daughter and her teacher, Check Check Check
Mia is one to usually display her "Darling" side when faced with adversity. However, when children are involved she will not cower for anyone and stand tall to protect them. This is how she ends up in the clutches of a secret society ran by one of her students Dad. She will protect Franny at all costs while she tries to fight her attraction to her frustratingly handsome Dad. She will have to be her true self if she wants to survive this new world and boy does she deliver. I rooted for Mia throughout this whole book. She didn't fit into their world but she wasn't about to shy away from it. Her confidence and fire mad me want to read more and oh my the spice scenes!!! Gear up for laughs, angry and love.
5⭐️ 2🌶️ 🔥Dark Mafia Romance 🔥Forced Proximity 🔥Forbidden Relationship 🔥Secret Society 🔥Kidnaps Her for Her Safety 🔥Single Girl Dad 🔥Dual First Person POV
Mia Darling thought she accepted a teaching position at an exclusive academy for the summer, but what she got was kidnapped, for her own safety, by her favorite student’s father, Jameson Knight. She reluctantly agrees to be Frannie’s nanny and teacher for the summer. Except, she never really had a choice. Jameson wasn’t go to let her go. Mia fights and questions him at every turn, asking questions that she isn’t ready to hear the answers. Mia is an intelligent and resilient female lead, while Jameson is a strong single dad with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s also terrible at communicating his feelings and intentions. Both are layered and complex characters with personalities that shouldn’t work together on paper but are perfect for each other. Jameson is distracted by Mia being in his home, he can’t help but think about her all day, so he decides that if he indulges in this attraction he won’t be as distracted. Things heat up between them, but he continues to fight his attraction and feelings for her, pushing her away when she gets too close. Mia finally asks the question that gets her an answer she was not expecting, Jameson is a Diamond. A secret society that she has only ever heard whispers about and always thought they were a myth. But what happens when she doesn’t run screaming from him, when he watches her with his daughter, when she talks back…he falls and doesn’t even realize it. Paradise Grove is full of secrets behind the closed doors of their secret society. When Mia finds out a huge secret Jameson was keeping from her, she realizes that he never truly trusted her. Jameson thought he was protecting her by keeping things from her, instead he ended up pushing her away and hurting her. The groveling he had to do was perfection. No one can bring him to his knees like his darling devil, Mia.

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. This was such a great mafia romance!! The FMC Mia is a strong independent woman who knows what she wants and how to stand up for herself!! I was hooked from the beginning to end and I need more!! I cant wait for the next book!! Absolutely love this!!
“He’s the forbidden enigma I wanted to ignore . . . but instead I’ll be forced to share a home with him.
Jameson Knight arrives at precisely the same time every day to pick up his young daughter from school, smiling as she runs into his open arms.
It’s the only time I see him smile.
I don’t ask questions because it’s not my place. I’m just his daughter’s favorite teacher, nothing more. . . . Until the first bullet flies by us at recess.
Suddenly, I’m risking my life to protect her. And then Jameson drags me back to his estate, claiming it’s a matter of life-or-death.
Now I’m in the most beautiful home I’ve ever seen, faced with an offer from a man who’s just as gorgeous: Be the temporary live-in nanny until he can ensure my safety and find a more permanent solution. It’ll be easy, he promises.
Yet, the arrangement is anything but simple.
Not when Jameson’s hungry stare is all consuming and his touch pulse racing.
And definitely not when I find that nothing in this neighborhood is as it seems, including Jameson.
He may be powerful, possessive, and protective. But he’s also dangerous, demanding, and calculating.
As more of his secrets come out, I should run but . . .
How do I escape the enigma of Jameson Knight if he’s already captured my heart?”
Rating: 4.5/5 Behind Closed Doors has all the Shain Rose goodness inside. The mix of a Nanny/Boss with a Secret Society/Mafia. It’s one of my favorite combos. And the spice is quite good. Jameson is all sorts of protective over Mia as she goes from teacher to living under his roof for safety, then to a hired nanny for his daughter.
Behind Closed Doors gets rolling fairly quickly with establishing Mia and her new role. I liked uncovering the layers of the Secret Society Jameson was involved in, his role, and the others. I also like the pushback she would give to Jameson as she would stand her ground on things she believed strongly in.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and am hoping to learn more about Jameson’s brother, Cal’s story, soon.
E.T.A. I just found out that Erin Mallon and James Cassidy have done audiobook narration. I’m planning on listening to that!
Thank you to Kensington Books for the gifted copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was SUCH a fun read. My first book by Shain Rose and… oh. my. God. I loved it. 😍
Mia and Jameson? Just wow. These two had me smiling through the whole book. The push and pull, the tension, the fights (the banter!!!). I was living for every single interaction. Jameson Knight is the definition of powerful, possessive, protective… and dangerously calculating. The way he looks at Mia? Obsessed. The forced proximity? Elite. The live-in nanny trope? Ate. The “I should stay away from him but I can’t” energy? Perfection.
I loved how their relationship developed under pressure, with secrets unraveling and danger lurking in the background. The chemistry was intense, the emotional tension was real, and that hungry, all-consuming dynamic between them? Addictive. Jameson may be an enigma… but he completely captured my heart. 🖤 Definitely not my last Shain Rose book.
