Unsure of the association between the author/editor and the artists who actually created the designs
Needs better detail in the instructions (assumes a certain level of skill in the reader even though it claims some projects are for beginners). However, the book claims to be a collection of patterns from other beaders, so possibly this is just a direct-copy collection of patterns the author found online? Hopefully the artists got something for the book. Either way, some interesting looks/patterns and I found at least two of the eleven worth spending the time to make.
This is a wonderful book for making jewelry out of seed beads. There are great ideas in this easy to follow, with step by step instructions that I was looking forward to following. I decided to try this out but found it is not for me. I was looking forward to the bracelets. The instructions have colored pictures with arrows so you can see which way to go. The bracelets are: Kiss Me Bracelet Cobalt Blue Elegant Bracelet Alligator Bracelet Frosty Diamond Bracelet They all look beautiful in the final picture. They are not for beginning beaders. This I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
All, every single last project in this book is WAY above my current skill set. So how dare I give it such a high rating if I don't even know if the patterns work? Because while I read the book I got all excited and had this urge to rush into the craft room and practice my current almost non existent skills so I get to make one, all of these asap. I kid you not. The book may not be as exciting to more experienced beaders, I cant comment on that but for me It had me all giggly.
I just checked through the book and I now have 3 future projects picked out for myself to make. I am 63 years young and new to beading but need something to fill my time. Hopefully able to make all future presents for my Grandchildren and Daughter! Loving it!
This book has 11 projects using a variety of stitches. Quick bracelets, necklaces and earrings will help you use up those seed beads you bought but never used.
Making Beaded Jewelry: 11 Free Seed Bead Patterns is not a beginning beading book. To use this book you need a basic knowledge of common stitches, be able to read a pattern with no diagrams and have a desire to copy one of the projects. I liked the pattern designers were recognized at the start of each pattern and that a variety of stitches, patterns and projects were offered. It was difficult to see the beading charts for patterns that were included on my Kindle Fire and I can't imagine making out those patterns on a small Kindle. The book was organized but the patterns varied in difficulty and the clarity of instructions.
This is a good beading book to have for referencing for the beginner beader. It has all of the basic beading instructions together for you all on hand in on book, from the quick go to flower chain, and transitioning smoothly into the peyote stitch. There are a few more to inspire interest and are perfect for earrings, jewelry and gifts.
