Book 3 of this Progression Fantasy Epic about a desperate mage sent into the past to rescue his apocalyptic world. Features a detailed magic system, kingdom building, three-dimensional characters, plenty of action, and everything you love about progression fantasy!
For my taste everything happens too fast, the Mc only started building up his town and only now has prospect to earn enough money to make bigger improvements.
Once again the MC is too all knowing and adored by everyone and even learns that he has a ridiculously overpowered boon. Furthermore, he turns out to be the prophesied legendary"chosen one" who is the only one capable of saving the world!
The last part of the book seemed very contrived.
I hated both the insane motivations and the whole concept of the dragon worshippers . They kill, corrupt and destroy to achieve power which they obviously already possess! These people easily could take over some kingdom and rule it but no! They think destroying the world to be better...
I am not sure if i will read the next book of the series anymore.
Criticism and comments
Community kitchens and free food for everyone sounds nice. Very socialistic. Very naive. It is well meant but also perfect to attract lay abouts and ruin farmers, grocers, restaurants and imbiss stands in the process!
So let me get this right. A queen who in fact already has ruled the kingdom from the shadows for a long time wants to weaken this kingdom to be able to rule from the shadows? That sounds logical, as long as you don't think about it..
The city defense seemed off. The cannons should have wider reach and the mages should have been THE priority target..
The time line is horribly flawed. People know things they shouldn't yet, the cannons are produced too fast, the time between awakening and being able to use the changes is almost instantaneous..
The armies of the minor lords have way too many soldiers. No simple count would have a cavalry of two thousand men, most kingdoms had less until the Renaissance era..
It's hilarious that the duke had less own men than his subjects..
How does ONE smith produce sufficient armor, weapons and cannons for an entire army within less than two weeks?
Weaponised magical drones were too much for me.
Vampires are not identical with necromancers!
Where does Kai store the huge amount of potions he carries around?
Spoiler alert – read only after finishing the book.
Why not attack the elves? Everyone knows where they are. The “secret” cabal clearly has the means.
Why not kill the king? If the Queen takes over with support from the mage tower and the first prince—who could oppose that? Especially with vampires and parasites in play.
So much scheming to eliminate Arzen (pre-Kai), yet a simple staged suicide by a low-tier assassin would’ve done the trick. Are we really supposed to believe he stabbed himself in the gut and no one found that suspicious?
The author does manage to refocus the scattered threads from the first two books into a clearer narrative here—but honestly, the more I think about it, the more it feels like too little, too late.

this series continously got worse as it went, this book was the last straw. mc turns into a goody white knight from the pragmatic apocalypse survivor that he was in the beginning. book is full of unnecessary povs and it's overly long. Kingdom building overshadowed the action and made the whole thing a chore to read. mc is gearing up to tell everyone that he is a Regressor and this is a major problem for me in books so I'm not going to continue the series.
I have been reading since the beginning on Royal Road and I can’t get enough! The world building, characters, action and most importantly the overall tension the author writes into each book is phenomenal. Follow Kai as he goes back in time to save his world from dead mana and the foes who wish to destroy it!
Book 3 of Magus Reborn really raises the stakes. I love how the magus keeps building toward a fairer world while juggling politics, power, and the weight of his past life’s knowledge. The side characters continue to shine with their own arcs and back stories, making the world feel full and alive. A great continuation of a smart, exciting series.
Magus Reborn, book three of A Progression Fantasy Adventure series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). There was a lot of traveling in this installment-- good from a 'learn new cultures' standpoint, but I couldn't get back to the conflict between Kai and Lucien. I can barely wait until the next book.
It's pretty good with decent characters but the progression is slow. But there were some plot holes like where did the MC get all the money to improve his fief and hire and sustain an army? Then there's all the dead mana creatures that feel too much like deus ex machina, who are convenient devices to provide obstacles for the MC. It just doesn't feel natural, and I will stop reading this series.
Apparently , in fantasy worlds , horses are robots... they can gallop and run forever without resting. This is a 5 star story, but with your logical segway that brings down the enjoyment.
The story was well written and so much going on. It was able to answer several questions on why the world ended and maybe how one person can change it. It is a good example of a kingdom building genre book.
There is still a lot of awkward English, but I like the story enough to overlook it. If the author wanted to actually sell the books they should have a professional editor help to smooth out the writing.
The only negative of this series for me has been the similar town names. With this book we have closure on one relationship while the other big players show themselves.
The story(s) are good…the characters are interesting but timeline is inconsistent and word usage is awkward in several areas…like it’s AI or someone writing in a second language or translating from another language
