Bonnie McDaniel had spent the last four years raising her brothers and sister after a tragic accident killed her parents. But now, four years later, she was out of money, and short on ideas. She had to form a plan. The only thing she could come up with was to find a husband that would help her. She'd never done anything so bold in her life.
By now most of you know that Rita Hestand is from Texas, that she's a widow, a mother, and a grandmother. You know that she was an only child, and that she traveled the US as a child extensively. What made her a writer was the fact that she was an only child growing up in an age when a kid had to use their imagination to entertain themselves. You probably know that she acted out her first books in the backyard all over the countryside.
Rita worked most of her adult life, but one job she’s especially proud of is as a day care provider in her home for twenty years. Helping to raise her own grandchildren to school age, it seemed only natural to enroll in the Institute of Children's Literature, where she graduated in 1997. Rita writes children's books, poetry and romance, along with plays and short stories.
She's a member of Books We Love, WRW, and a firm believer that learning should never stop. But above all, she believes that one should NEVER GIVE UP!
DNF The plot of the book was good and I really liked the start. However the language did not tie in with the timing of the book. I felt the book lacked the feel of the time.
One determined young lady, raising her siblings. In desperate need of some help. She set out to find a husband, and marry's he's good to her. The kid's adore him and life becomes better. They have their share problems, but a happy family together.
West Texas 1882 Dal Odom has made an enemy of Mr John Banister and four years later it returns to haunt him.
Banister accused Odom of stealing his money which as it would happen Banister's own son stole.
Four years later he meets Bonnie a waif of a girl who has raised her bothers and sister on her own. She is in need of help immediately. Banister wants to take over her spread. She goes into town seeking a husband and makes a marriage proposal to Odom.
The story is quite simple both people need each other. Odom wants a family but finds it difficult to accept Bonnie's proposal. He then sees how truly remarkable she is and falls for her.
I did enjoy the story but I have to say it needed more.

I really enjoyed the fact That you. never.knew what was going to happen next. Good plot. Very believable characters. The hero was a good one because of the way he taught the children the correct way to deal with conflict.
Excellent book. Very well written with interesting characters and an interesting storyline. Very sweet. Unusual rags to riches story with a lot of love thrown in.
I loved how brave Bonnie was. At 14 she raised her 4 siblings for 4 years with no help. The love she found with Hal was inspiring. Through many trials they found a forever love. This was a well written romance. Couldn't put it down.
This is the first time I ever left a comment. I tried to read this book. I could understand it, it had a good story line. But goodness the characters are crap. Bonnie is suppose to be a grown woman not a child and even though it states that she is very much a woman, having her scream and cry running to another room slamming doors sounds like a brat to me.
