Everything You Need to Know About Working with the Magic of the Elements For thousands of years, our ancestors believed that the Elements — Earth, Air, Fire, and Water — were the building blocks of the Universe, and their inherent properties and energies could be directed to manifest particular outcomes. This belief grew and evolved over time as part of the Western Mystery Tradition, a body of beliefs that has had significant influence on the dynamic nature-based religion known as Wicca. Through ritual and magic, Wiccans interact with the primal forces of the Elements in a variety of ways, calling upon them for assistance in the transformation of their realities just as the earliest shamans did in the ancient world. You may already be aware of some aspects of how the Elements figure into Wiccan practice. For example, you may know that each is represented by different ritual tools—the pentacle for Earth, the wand for Air, the cup for Water and the athame for Fire. But did you know that the psychic energies of each Element are found within each and every person on the planet? Or that by connecting spiritually with a particular Element you can help address an imbalance in your life? And let’s not forget the all-important Fifth Element, known in many traditions as Akasha, or simply Spirit, which contains the other four and yet is an Element in its own right. But if all of the above is news to you, don’t worry—it really doesn’t matter how much you’ve learned so far about Wicca or the Elements. Elemental Magic was created for both beginners and more experienced Witches alike. In this guide, best-selling author Lisa Chamberlain covers it the basics of incorporating the Elements into your rituals, as well as less-often discussed topics like animism, Elemental personalities, and using these forces of nature to help you enhance your magical perception. Indeed, as you will see, an Element-centered practice is a rich and rewarding way to deepen your connection to the Goddess and God, to Nature, the Universe, or whatever terms your particular belief system ascribes to the power of All That Is. Foundations of Elemental Magic In order to truly grasp the underlying concepts behind working with the Elements, it’s important to learn how these components—Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit—came to be defined in Western magical traditions. You’ll also need a close look at each individual Element to understand its inherent properties and its potential to transform your magical practice. You’ll find all of this in Elemental Magic and much Our earliest civilizations’ understandings of the Elements and their relationship to magic How recent scientific observations reflect these ancient concepts The core magical properties of each Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit, and how we are personally influenced by these energies Ways of attuning with individual Elements for enhanced living and magical practice Elemental relationships with deities, “elemental beings,” and spirit animals An overview of Wiccan ritual with a focus on the Elements, including altar layout, casting the circle, and calling the quarters Techniques and magical practices for working with individual Elements Spells, rituals and charms focused on each individual Element In addition, you'll find tab
Lisa dispels all the common misconceptions about this diverse religion, giving her readers the perfect foundations for taking their first steps on their Wiccan journey.
Unlike other Wicca guides, Lisa's books provide information that's found across many Wiccan traditions, rather than coming from just one person's perspective. In fact, she writes the kinds of books she wishes had been available when she was just starting out in the Craft all those years ago.
When not writing or experimenting with spellwork, Lisa loves to read, play piano, and spend time surrounded by nature.
This book was very interesting. Not only that it spoke of elements, but also about making your altar, zodiac signs and how elements affect people due to which element is dominant in you, also included some spells and correspondence tables. I did not find out anything new, but it refreshed my knowledge.
Bubbling with insight & information! Linking the information sections of 'how to,' correspondence tables, elements, elementals, tools, etc., are clear connections that sparkle as purely as mountain creeks and waterfalls. The connection is through universal vibrations, with the authoress drawing parallels between the weather, plants, humans, water - 'all that is.' As to why performing magic in a multitude of ways is natural, is made clear - it is a result of individuals being uniquely different, responding/reacting to scents, objects, ideas, etc. in our own unique ways. The guiding principles, such as 'for the good of all, harm to none,' and 'as below, is above,' ground the ideas in concepts that have survived eons, as demonstrated by currently popular religions' versions of these concepts. With so much to offer, you'll want to read this book twice to get every nuance!
On a more personal note, I would have liked to see a bibliography listing the research books mentioned. It was not in the kindle version, but may be in the hard copy.
I received a review copy of "Wicca Elemental Magic" and this is my honest review. This book was an informative and easy read. As a beginning practitioner I found that the author made great lengths to make sure I did not feel lost. I also did not feel overburdened by information while still learning a lot. Reading this book made me interested in delving deeper into the elements and their use in magic. I feel that even seasoned practitioners could benefit from reading this material. Going back and studying is always key in keeping your foundation strong. I would recommend this book to beginners, the experienced and those who are curious.
A nice overview of the five elements and they are utilized in witchy rituals. While the information is fairly basic and common place, whether you are deep in the craft or not, it is a good starting place to look at your surroundings and favorite imagery (colors, animals, locations, etc.) and how they can play a role in your witchy practices.
I love this book so much simply because one of the areas I was lacking knowledge in is elemental magic. What was my element of destiny? This book just took me that extra step in finding that out. Plus some elemtal history.
I get the Audible editions for these too, for when I want to double-up on “information intake routes.” 😁 Or I just get lazy. Either way, Lisa Chamberlain is one of my favorite authors for learning.
This book has some.great tips for beginners. I also love how she contanstantly reminds the reader that the most important thing is that one be full of good intention and follow one's own path!
Great book. Learned a lot. Confirmed a lot. Now I have to go get the physical book for my shelves! Seriously though, Lisa Chamberlain explains things in a very easy to follow manner. I did not feel overwhelmed nor did I feel stupid at any time. I did come away with a lot of notes and ideas!
I enjoyed all that I learned in this book. It has concise information that is easy to follow and extremely informative. The spells part is very small buggies a good general idea about possibility.
A useful and informational book regarding the elements and offers a different perspective on an area of Wicca. Quick read and a good place to start your journey or add to the journey.
this book was fascinating and informative this book focuses on the elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. this book is full of information on each of the elements, their properties, characteristics, and their uses and roles in magic. this book delves into the fascinating history with the elements making it very enjoyable to read. I enjoyed reading about the elemental personalities. this was definitely an interesting book to read
What I like about the book is that it easy to read and it has a good flow. What I like about the author is the fact that she advises the reader that Wicca is a lifelong journey and one should make its own mind about the path. She says: "this book is by no means an exhaustive source of information, and the ideas it represents should never be considered the "way things are always done"". This is the first time that I am able to read a Wicca book in less than a day. It is informative and it explains the relationship of the elements with our every day life, Wicca and how to connect with them. It is not a how to do book, but a beginner book to understanding some of the important basics. There are some examples as well as two correspondence tables at the end, that are a great reference tools. Over all, I highly recommend this book!
I was gifted this book in order to review it, and I was pleasantly surprised. The book was so hard to put down! There were a number of things I enjoyed about it.
I loved the scientific research with regards to crystals, plants, trees, and water. There were also great references to common terms such as "shaken up" or "out of thin air." I found the associations between personal deities and the Elements to be fascinating. And the author's emphasis on creativity, uniqueness, and flexibility were amazing.
Wicca Elemental Magic by Lisa Chamberlain. This outstanding book has given me a better understanding of the world I live in and enhanced the appreciation I have for nature in its Elements. It is helping me connect with the Elements, and lay down my own path into magic. It motivates me to becoming a regular practitioner by showing me I can use what is around me, and that the words that spring from my heart, for the benefit of all and harm of none, are the right words to be used in my spells. I highly recommend it!
A good start if you want to know more about elements. It has a long introduction but I think that is neccesary to get to know more about the elements. I surtainly have more respect for elements and more insight and it ends with a good practical table in the end. The fifth element remains a little mysterious but I suppose that is actually never going to change.
Lisa this book was so interesting. I found your chapter on personalities very interesting and spot on. I do spell work so that was very interesting to get your view on spirit. I was born wicca so I don't come across may people who are . If you are new to wicca this book is a must read. I did not know that about the celts and that was great to know. I can't wait to try your spells.
As with many of Sister (in the Craft) Lisa's books there is repetition of ideas and concepts, but it doesn't harm anything to reiterate at every turn the fundamentals. As with many of her other books it's a great basic resource for any searcher or level of Craft.
This is the second book I have read from this author. Once again I was not disappointed by the amount of information contained. I would have liked to have seen a little more information on how to use and create your own spells and uses for the elements and their charms. However the information was definitely a great spot to get started and working on your own.
I am a staring practitioner and this was very informative and helpful. I would give this book to anyone who is just starting. Its unbiased voice and generous information makes it extremely helpful. It was easy to read and understand. I absolutely loved this book and it gave me the boost needed to continue practicing.
This book was very helpful to someone who is just getting into witchcraft. It was easy to follow and had tons of great information! I'm so glad i was given the opportunity to read this book and review it. I've gotten to read several books from this author and I just love how she makes sure you understand what she's trying to tell you.
I really enjoyed this book. I found the information to insightful but also not to deep that I got lost as a beginner. It inspired me to go and do research into things she talked about that I found particularly interesting. I think these books are great for any beginner looking for lots of information.
The author made a great guide for beginners. Seasoned practitioners will find the content redundant. For me reading this was like being on Pinterest for several hours as I find the overlap between the information almost perfect. If I was new to Wicca or magic in general this may be helpful. If not already it should be labeled a beginners guide.
