Follow up on Esherick's "Reform and Revolution in China". Comprehensive, much effort was put in studying Yuan's involvement in reforming locally in Zhili 直隸 and the formation of the Beiyang force 北洋軍. I'd like to see more on the histories on his supervision of Korea in the early period, his involvement in the constitutional reforms, management of Minguo & his decision in forming an Empire himself (the later 2 is put in the conclusion, so that's insufficient). Definitely reading more on him!
