They were told to stay out of the ten-day war, but their side lost in the first hour.
Their future is at stake, so now the Butcher and the other workers have to do the Win a war without anyone know they are fighting. Luckily, they have Fearless Leader on their side to help them carry out their campaign of terror and sabotage as they use every dirty trick they can think of to even the odds.
Twenty-Five workers with no weapons or magic versus two-hundred and fifty regular players.
The other side is in for a big surprise.
Book 2 of this isekai LitRPG adventure by Walrus King, the bestselling author of Tunnel Rat.
Crammed with stats, power progression, a fully-developed cast of characters, deep worldbuilding, and a healthy blend of action and humor, it's perfect for fans of Dakota Krout, Michael Chatfield, and RinoZ.
The Butcher Of Gadobhra and its sister series Tunnel Rat are extraordinary.
I read both on Royal Road and would encourage any lover of LitRPG to read both series.
The Butcher of Gadobhra is extremely inventive in how companies and players work in a very dominant Virtual Game. The class types, how those placed into the game as company workers have to use the game system to get around the restriction their employers place on them to advance. The shenanigans that erupt from this setup are very different from what we read in other series.
The author uses all his experiences in gaming, comic books, fantasy and it adds up to a fun time.
You do need to give it a chance as the beginning sets up the main cast but it starts cooking pretty quickly. I cannot recommend this series enough - it is definitely worth a look.
Whoever or whatever edited this book failed to realize that combining actions and conversations that take place in entirely different and unrelated parts of the world into the same paragraph is both confusing to the reader and detrimental to the story. I have lost track of how many times I was reading about something and suddenly the names changed and the location was somewhere else in the world with the new characters discussing an entirely different topic. Put a blank line between paragraphs when you shift the story! Don't just start a new sentence with a new story thread in the middle of a paragraph. Your computer assisted editor (I refuse to say Artificial Intelligence) is not getting the job done and needs to be proofread before publishing.
The Genesis Engine creates the world of Gadobrha and it's not a typical fantasy world. For example, two competing corporations go to war over the town of Sedgewick. It's an unfair fight. Famco has 150 warriors and ACME has 50. The hired workers of ACME are neutral, because their skills have been nerfed to make them workers and not warriors.
But brains count. Ozzy and Suzette, Ben Franklin, and Rolly and his pet Squirmy use their worker skills to sabatoge and outfox FAMCO in one of the more hilarious wars you'll ever read.
And that's just one of the many adventures you'll enjoy in this great progressive fantasy book
The first half of the book is mostly boring. The single point of contact with the AI and what comes out of it is the single interesting part of the half. Everything else, the fearless leader narrative, the convoluted corporate machinations, the fallen bit, all of that was just plain ok.
The second half, it goes back to what we saw on the first book. Cheesing the system to get what they need. That was fun and what I've been telling people is interesting about this story.
There's always something happening in this series. I love the feel of how immense and populated the world feels, both inside and outside the VR game. There are forces at work behind the scenes, and we only get glimpses of what they're up to.
I'm also enjoying how the relationships are progressing, as well as how all of the Worker characters are devoted to figuring out how to get around their contracts.
I liked it a lot. I think the world of the genesis engine game is really interesting and engaging. This book is harder than tunnel rat to read because the cast is so much larger. Otherwise I like the characters and the story. But the typesetting in the book was a little hard to read. I would’ve loved paragraph breaks between POV shifts, but it wasn’t the end of the world.
This series is filled with great books. Tons of action, magic, adventure, great characters and dialogue. Just a really fun and engaging book to read. The only issue is even though it was fun while it lasted, eventually the book ended and we have to wait for the next one. I enjoyed this series and recommend reading it.
An Engaging story of people working in a VR world for a soulless Corporation who is perfectly willing to sell their people for spare change. Four MC with numerous excellent side characters who could be a MC in their own stories!
I like the four main characters and it is worth it to read through the rest that I’m not enamored with. However I was not liking escaping into a fantasy world to find taxes, lawyers, and trials. This book was noticeably less amusing than the first.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this kinda lost me. It was well written, but the whole Ozzy and Suzette's dying then being NPC'd, and whole relationship thing just kinda ended my momentum and excitement for the story.
Overall this book continues a great series, if you like the first one, this is more of the same. Still a surprising amount of typos but less frequent than the first book.
