I got this book free if I did an honest review. So....I really don't think you could buy a Monet painting in 1860-62, he was still studying. So I can't continue with this book. If some historical fact or reference is made and, me, the average person can Google and get correct information then the author should have better editors and/or researchers.

I just need to stop downloading free books. There is a reason they are free or $1.99....ugh!

Lost Myself In This Story!

“The Memories of Bellevue” is a historical love story set just before the beginning of the Civil War.
Such a sad time in America’s History!
This love story is between Thomas, the son of a plantation owner, and Jeyne, one of his father’s slaves.
From the first page to the last I was completely captivated. My heart went on an emotional rollercoaster ride throughout the entire story. Each character was extremely well defined. I could feel Thomas and Jeyne’s passion followed by their shear feeling of hopelessness and helplessness of the situation.
Days after finishing this book I found my heart and mind still haunted by their heartache.
I was completely blown away with the excellent writing skills of author La’Chris Jordan. I just hope she doesn’t keep me waiting long for the next book in this series.

Set in Louisiana in the mid 1800s on a plantation, the story of Thomas and Jeyne is utterly mesmerizing. The historical research is evident in the accurate portrayal of the period, and yet, the story never reads like a history lesson. Set against backdrops of the Confederacy, Abolitionists, and slavery, the detail is staggering, and expertly woven into the story.

La'Chris Jordan is an author to watch. Her prose is seamless, the tension taut, the pace relentless. The forbidden romance between Thomas and Jeyne is richly detailed. Jordan doesn't pull punches; she conveys the story and thoughts in a realistic manner, as they were at that time, not through current cultural lenses, however painful it might be. She is to be applauded for a fine story, and I can't wait to read the next one. My only complaint? I wanted more! A definite 5 star novella from a gifted writer. Can definitively "see" this one on the screen.

Intense and moving period romance.
Thomas and Jeyne grew up together. They played, read, laughed and talked. They loved each other. Eventually, that love matured into romatic love.
This was St. Parish, Louisiana, in 1861. Where even as children, Thomas and Jeyne lived in different worlds. Thomas was white, heir to the plantation; Jeyne was black, a slave on the plantation. Thomas and Jeyne were both warned, by their parents to remember their stations in life. Thomas believed they could overcome any obstacles. Their love was strong and true! Nothing would stand in their way, right?
This story is an emotional whirlwind from beginning to end! Thomas narrates the events in his past. The book is well written, and the characters and dialog well developed. I have many questions at the end. This is the first book in tbe trilogy.
3 1/2 stars.
I received this book free for an honest review.

Thomas is the heir to a plantation in Louisiana, and Jeyne, one of his oldest friends, is a slave on that plantation. As the two grow up together, it becomes clear to Thomas, and everyone else on the plantation, that his feelings for Jeyne run deeper than friendship. On the heels of secession and on the brink of war, without support from family, slaves, nor friends, the two struggle to find their place in a world that won’t accept them.

Memories of Bellevue is a rich, historical fiction, set in 1861 Louisiana. The plantation setting provides a powerful, harsh, yet vivid backdrop to a story about love, justice, and equality. Overall, the story is well-written. It sets up the next two books beautifully, and I look forward to the continuation in the rest of the trilogy.

This story is about love between Thomas and Jeyne. Thomas's parents are owners of the plantation in Louisiana and Jeyne is a slave at this plantation. After thomas and Jeyne fall in love with each other they face a world that won't accept them. The action takes place in 1861 Louisiana that is on a brink of war. The story is very captivating, characters charming and twists unexpected. What I especially liked is that the author uses very visual writing style and I was able to see a mental movie in my imagination while reading the book. I also felt like I am in the middle of the action. This story is very captivating and I can definitely recommend it.
