★★★★★! Resist, part 1 of 5. Journalism graduate in need of a job agrees to be kept by infamous Jax Murphy in hopes of getting the scoop, but soon is more set on getting him in bed!

“Nothing turns me on more than showing a woman all the reasons why she can’t handle me.”

These 5 parts should be read in order:
Part 1: Resist
Part 2: Ravage
Part 3: Untitled
Part 4: Untitled
Part 5: Untitled

In Resist (part 1) recent college graduate Charlotte Lucas is recovering from a recent breakup and stressing over finding a job, even after graduating top of her class with a journalism degree. A friend brings to her attention that infamous playboy Jaxon Murphy, Jax is running an advertisement for an assistant/kept woman:

…Successful, attractive male requires a full-time, live in assistant. …If voyeurism and explicit fantasies are likely to offend, do not apply. …I am not looking for a slave, or a submissive. I’m after a challenge.

This might be her way into to become a reporter! For years Jax has been cloaked with scandal and mystery, even suspicion; First with the death of his family and most recently with the disappearance of his girlfriend. With hopes of getting his story she submits her application, but upon meeting Jax she not only wants the job she is looking forward to getting laid.

Story goes on to follow during Charlotte's first few weeks as Jax’s assistant while she grows sexually frustrated and concerned. Jax doesn’t get attached and he’s all about sinister mind-games and his depraved lifestyle of voyeurism. Besides with a harem of assistants he has plenty to warm his bed, except he rather visit their rooms and be captured on camera…

“I see the concern in her eyes and I want to laugh. After the way I treat her, she would still do anything for me, just like the rest of them...”

Jaxon Murphy, Jax had me a hello with his sinfully good looks and his kinky and sinister side. I cannot wait to see where story takes him, hopefully for a fall into whopped, but that remains to be seen as there is many secrets surrounding him.

Ten words to describe Jax: Sinister, depraved, commanding, broken, cynical, enigmatic, elusive, calculated, secretive and vengeful.

 photo Re1 he BS by sb_zpsouevicwt.gif

Eight words to describe Charlotte Lucas: Sweet, timid, unassuming, determined, meek, smart, focused and loyal.

Resist is the perfect opening to what looks to be a very kinky, sexy, suspenseful and at times dark read. Set against the backdrop of the depraved games of Jax, who might just have gotten away with murder... It ends with a cliffy, leading right to part 2, Ravage for the continuation of their story.

Sinister and oh so swoon-worthy hero! Suspenseful and kinky plot! Excellent storytelling! A very promising beginning to serial!

“Fear excites me.”

This is the help wanted ad, Charlotte Lucas, recent college grad, decides to answer, with the encouragement of one of her best friends. Charlotte has just broken up with her boyfriend after catching him with another woman, and to top it all off, she is not having any luck landing her dream job. She was a journalism major in College, and it appears that jobs with the LA Times, or any newspaper for that matter, are practically non-existent. So what does this bright young lady decide to do? She decides to answer this very racy want ad that seems to require her services as a sex toy for a very kinky man.

Jaxon Murphy is a billionaire bad boy who is CEO to Hamden & Murphy Enterprises. This guy is gorgeous and very kinky, but make no mistakes ladies, this guy is no prince charming either. His last girlfriend has gone missing and he is the prime suspect. His entire family was murdered when he was a teenager. It seems as though death follows Jax.

The main reason Charlotte takes the job, is to do some investigative reporting on Jaxon. She hopes that she will uncover his secrets which will land her a dream job with the LA Times. She might even be a little attracted to Jax and is fantasizing about the sexual encounters she will have with him.

The guy has a huge mansion, where he employs eight other women to be his sexual playthings. He calls on them whenever he feels like it, and does whatever he wants to them without ever caring about their pleasure. He is not an overly giving partner in the sex department.

He does seem to be intrigued by Charlotte and toys with her for a bit. Trying to see how crazy he can make her get with want for him. The sexy time scenes are pretty hot. But I have to say even though Jaxon sounds super sexy, I wasn't too crazy about him. He has not an ounce of swoon worthiness in this first book. I didn't ever feel like these two characters felt anything more than pure lust for each other.

Don't even get me started on Charlotte!! How does a bright, educated girl basically take a job as a man's sex slave? Doesn't she even think that maybe her credibility as a journalist will be tarnished if her potential employers ever found out what lengths she went to in order to get the story?

I have noticed in other books by Missy, that the male lead always starts off being a bit of a douche with no respect for women, but they do end up meeting that one woman who brings out a change within them. This is what I hope ends up happening with Jaxon. I need some romance and there was none to be had in this first book.

Seeing the blurb for this book made me want to jump right into it. I love stories that don’t start out as a romance, and this one definitely does not.
Position vacant…

Successful, attractive male requires a full-time, live in assistant.

Please note; this is no ordinary position.

If voyeurism and explicit fantasies are likely to offend, do not apply.

Fight me. Resist me and you will be rewarded…

Charlotte is like many young college graduates. Jobless. But it gets worse from there. She recently walked in on her boyfriend of three years sleeping with their neighbor. So now she’s officially on her own and on the hunt for a job.

 photo 674bfdf7-b191-4a63-b871-df75a5d2dd50_zpsec6370b4.jpg

When her friend stumbles upon a job ad to be an ‘assistant’ for the elusive Jaxon Murphy, she insists Charlotte apply. Jaxon is mysterious and Charlotte thinks maybe there is something there... maybe she can put her journalism degree to use. Charlotte applies for the job, along with hundreds of others. She doesn't’ have much hope she’ll be picked, but she is.

After reading the prologue, I was intrigued by Jaxon. He is mysterious, dark, and sexy. We learn early on that Jaxon has a secret past he’ll do anything to protect. And we know that he has certain sexual perversities.

 photo d46da006-f7f9-471b-b4b0-e4b30b2992d3_zpse8431f6b.jpg

Jaxon just knows that Charlotte is who he wants when he interviews her. There was something about her that really stood out to him. Being in Jaxon’s head was really something else... this guy is interesting. He’s screwed up. I didn’t know how to feel about him for most of the book. It took me a while to warm up to him but I did end up liking him a lot by the end.

I don’t even want to get into what happens in this story, you have to see for yourself, but I do want to stress that it isn’t much of a romance. I don’t know if it will turn into one later, and for me, that’s okay. I know some people need that ‘love’ in their stories. You won’t find that in the first installment. What you will find is a story full of passion, mystery, suspense, and heat. I don’t know what happened in Jaxon’s past or how the rest of this story will turn out, but I’m anxious to find out in the next installment!

"Give me a reason to want you. Make me need you. Show me who you are, Charlotte."
~ JAXON MURPHY

Charlotte "Char" Lucas is a 24-year-old young woman whose life has turned upside-down in the last few months: She has lost all her inheritance, has tasted the worry of not knowing how to pay for rent and for her college tuition for the first time in her life, oh and she has walked in on her boyfriend of 3 years cheating on her with their neighbor.

All she wants now is to find a proper job to get her going for at least another year till she graduates fully. She already has finished top of her class in her Journalism degree before this one, but apparently, even that isn't enough to snatch a proper job at a newspaper nowadays...

Seeing her desperation, one of her BFFs, Jess, suggests her to take a look at a newspaper job ad for a position as a "full-time, live in assistant" to a "successful, attractive male", involving "explicit fantasies". The way the ad ends, both intrigues and scares Charlotte:

(...) I am not looking for a slave, or a submissive. I'm after a challenge. Fight me. Resist me and you will be awarded...
J.M.

Jaxon Murphy, the "successful, attractive male" stated in the ad, is the enigmatic CEO of Hamden & Murphy Enterprises. His past is filled with very tragic events, that obviously left some scars on him, and lots of secrets. He has been on the spotlight of the media for a few times, the last time being when her girlfriend Brynne disappeared a few months ago...

Eda would suggest her to forget about the job and:

...but of course, she listens to her so-called "best" friend, who tells her to take the job and observe him, fishing for a potential story, a way for her to jump-start a journalism career with a bomb! She could, like, get raped, and get murdered, and sliced into little pieces etc etc...but "that guy is hot" and "this is the best chance for a good story", so OF COURSE Charlotte should totally apply for this job. Duh.

I have to admit, this book has a very interesting plot, with lotsa questions and mysteries and the dual-POV is used in a very masterly manner, I loved it!

Oh and some scenes are...phewww! DAMN HOT! The sexual tension is palpable at each and every single one of them, so ME GUSTA.

But...

Yeah, there are a few buts.

I'd like to make a list as is tradition with my reviews lately:

1) NO ROMANCE .

Both the male and female MC at no point ever feel any ounce of warmth towards the other. They both are extremely attracted to each other sexually, but that's it.

And it works. It doesn't make you uncomfortable and the sexual relationship certainly doesn't feel forced.

It's just that I'd like a lil love in my books. Even if there is non for the most of it, I'd like to see my characters to grow feelings for each other at the end. I hope as we go along with the series, we get to see a bit romance in the story. It doesn't even have to be between Charlotte and Jaxon! ;)

2) The fact that I kinda LOATHE Jaxon.

I'm pretty sure that's what the author intended for us to feel anyway, creating a vile creature, with no feelings, always after cruel intentions, always merciless and cold.

We'll learn about his past in the next books, and there probably are some reasons for the way he is right now, but I feel like I can NEVER forgive him for a certain something that he is planning to do, without remorse and with no feelings of guilt. (The thing about Kasey... Poor girl.)

3) Some seriously annoying CLICHÉS .

For example, the fact that Charlotte knows all kinds of detailed stuff about Jaxon Murphy, because she has written a paper about him for her journalism degree...

Oh God...

A message to all the authors out there: STOP USING THIS UNIMAGINATIVE WAY OF MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THE CHARACTERS TO KNOW CERTAIN DETAILS ABOUT EACH OTHER'S LIVES!

Please, just try to be more creative. Geez.

As another example, let's hear some of Mr. Murphy's words:

He chuckles. "And what exactly were you expecting, Ms. Lucas? Chains and a dungeon? Don't worry, that will come later."

We have read these lines in other books for 1659 times before. Enough is enough. It doesn't sound sexy anymore.

Oh and another line we have come to get accustomed to lately:

"...I also expect you to be on birth control because I do not use condoms."

Not even gonna comment on that sh*t.

Lastly, here's something from Mr. Murphy's housekeeper Marina, who has known him since he was a little kid apparently:

"He was such a different boy back then, before..."

She lowers her head, as if she has just realized she shouldn't be talking to me about his past.

This woman has been living with him for years. She knows what'll happen if she was to blurt out something that she shouldn't. It doesn't make sense that she would be so careless to almost tell a woman that has just come to the house THAT DAY a big secret. It's very unrealistic.

Would Eda recommend this series?

Considering only Book#1, sadly, no.

But I'll be reading the rest of the series, so you'll know if it gets any better ;)

I've never read an Missy Johnson book before one of those reasons as for some reason I've always deterred away from serials but I'm all in now I really enjoyed it I obviously didn't know what I was missing, it was Intriguing Sexy Hot a whole lot of Dirty and there's also that grittier and edgier side even slightly sinister to this as well!!! I love the darker reads so if your like me then pick this up I'm sure you'll want to know ALL just like me anyway.....

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Charlotte has qualified as a journalist her résumé is impressive yet that's a hard world to get into and therefore she is still trying to seek work after walking into her boyfriend have sex with someone else she's now on her own living off her savings and not getting very far until her friend directs her towards this newspaper add.....

 photo 1225F06A-7132-4729-887C-FF2B6ED126D3_zpsw4h9qp6k.jpg

So does she take a chance?? hell yes she does and therefore she has no clue what she's walking into (In my book this concludes as one gutsy woman).

She's alone from what I'm getting so far, the only person who has been by her side is her best friend.... Therefore she really has nothing to loose, and she wants a career, she wants a story and she wants to learn who Jax is I mean she's researched him ALONG time, what you have to understand Jax has a past that has been in the news previously but news that is hidden for reasons unknown news that Charlotte wants to report, she wants to understand, she wants to report and she wants HIM.

Jax has got a troubled past and in many retrospect's this serial or in this instalment is us getting to KNOW HIM!! Or lack of him.... he is what I call a Man Whore a broken man he has a serious amount of heartache he's a troubled man and he is doing ANYTHING to keep his secrets SECRET.

But Jax is very SEXY he is appealing and I found myself intrigued by him, wanting to understand him finding myself guessing what happened?!! who happened all this makes him a very mysterious individual and a very COLD hearted man and somewhat KINKY, who will do what he wants when he wants and who he wants to do that to. I' trying to not explain too much here just understand this I feel like this is going to get darker and somewhat gripping in what way I really can't say this first Instalment to me was a prologue to the rest and I'm patiently now waiting to see where Missy is going to take us.

 photo 680E3B8A-9E58-4D44-A803-299AA1165022_zpsz5nsijt0.jpg

MY THOUGHTS
I was Intrigued and in this one I'd say it was a much more character driven story a beginning of what's to come, this is 1 of 5 releasing every 2 weeks so just a beginning don't get too disappointed as this is a serial after all, Missy did do a good job in making me want more that's for sure. My only hang up was that I wasn't greatly connected to these characters it was very matter of fact this is what happened and so forth but in that it doesn't deter you away from how my panties felt on FIRE when Jax was in the picture therefore I can see myself falling for Jax more so than Charlotte in a big way, he is INTENSE and very Dominating that's his role what he wants off Charlotte is to take the lead he wants a challenge will she? will she fight? READ it and find out...

So Until Part two .....

The premise of this novella series totally appealed to my book tastes with its attractive hero, explicit fantasies and a contract. Oh yes, I anticipated a sexy captivating read and I wasn't disappointed.
“I hire women to fulfill specific needs.”
Jaxon “…defines the word sexy.” He's confident, completely easy in his own skin and exudes charisma and charm. He is utterly intriguing.One may deduce that he's void of any emotion, clinical when it comes to women but clearly there’s so much more going on in his heart and soul, which will no doubt get my feels going as we move further into the series.

Charlotte is ambitions and witty and goes to the interview with more than one motive in mind. But does she have the required confidence and courage to follow through with her convictions?

I love the way this volume opens up. Showing us a glimpse of Jaxon's mysterious past, piquing my interest and drawing me in to the intrigue element of the story.

There were a few moments that made me catch my breath with an OMG! Jaxon's wants and desires, and the way he carries them out are pretty shocking in the context of the story and I LOVED that.

There are a couple of things that, if I'm completely honest didn't totally add up.... But, despite my fleeting thoughts as I was reading.... this is fiction so I'm going to suspend my disbelief, not worry about those little details, and enjoy the kinky ride.

This story is going to take us to some dark and emotional places, that’s my hope…. Jaxon has a past to protect. There's a public mystery.... No one knows what happened Could our heroine be putting herself in mortal peril?

Resist, in its entirety, is a fabulous start to this new erotic serial by Missy Johnson. It has everything packed in..... Intrigue, a sexy charismatic hero, a heroine who’s interesting in her own right with her failed relationship, her wit and her gutsy determination. It’s a story about revenge and the sexual desires of an intriguing man. It sucked me right in from the beginning. I’m eager for more and looking forward to discovering the sexy twists and kinky turns this story will undoubtedly take.

**Note Resist is told from a dual perspective and is the first part in five part erotic serial. ♥ They'll be released in quick succession.

Order of reading & my review thoughts
Resist #1
Ravage #2
#3, #4 & #5 are currently untitled

The story is about a twenty four year old, unemployed woman named Charlotte, who is in desperate need of a job. She has just graduated college at the top of her class, unfortunately, that information doesn't seem to be landing her any jobs. And to top it all off, her long term boyfriend had been cheating on her with their neighbour, until she finally caught him in the act. Things are just not going well for Charlotte. Things start to possibly look up when her best friend tells her about an advertisement to an unusual job. And the man behind the ad is the infamous Jaxon Murphy. If she could get the job, she could write a story about him that could land her the dream job in journalism that she has been seeking for.

'Fear excites me.'

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Jaxon Murphy is a complete enigma and very sexy. That prologue definitely hooked me in. I want to know more about him and what exactly happened in the past. He is very secretive and would go to great lengths to make sure nothing about him is revealed. He also has some particular sexual interests that he exercises with the women he hires to fulfill those needs. So far, I can't say that I love or even like the guy. I spent most of the time not liking Jaxon actually, but, he does have me intrigued. I'm not too sure if I like Charlotte just yet either. Some of her decisions were a bit dubious to me. I mean if you knew some terrible things about a strange male, would you want to work for him anyway and be some sort of sexual slave to him? Not sure I can say yes. I do like the fact that Charlotte doesn't hold back and can be comfortable in her own skin.

This short was 67 pages in length, which didn't take very long to read, and it is a part of a five part series. The story line definitely intrigued me, but also had me unsure of what to feel during certain times. I don't want to give too much of the story away considering how short it was. I am excited about finding out how Charlotte deals with this whole situation once she is properly introduced to it. There was no romance in this part, I'm not sure when the romance will start, or if it will, to be honest. There were some great steamy and kinky scenes, which I liked. Some parts were a bit stereotypical, and others, not at all. Some parts I liked, and some parts were alright. For the first part, it wasn't too bad. I can't stop saying how intrigued I am about this story line. I just really want to find out the truth. I can't wait to see how this whole story unfolds.

This book is dark and mysterious. It involves a man with demons from his past and a young woman wanting to make a name for herself. When you read the blurb about this book-

Successful, attractive male requires a full-time, live in assistant.

Please note; this is no ordinary position.

If voyeurism and explicit fantasies are likely to offend, do not apply.

The successful applicant will be female, attractive and very self-confident.

I am not looking for a slave, or a submissive. I’m after a challenge.

Fight me. Resist me and you will be rewarded…

how do you not want to read!! Charlotte Lucas is a journalism graduate who is jobless. Her friend finds this want ad from the infamous, Jaxon Murphy. He was acquitted of killing his girlfriend recently. There is so much mystery surrounding the man. No one has ever gotten his story. When he post this ad, Charlotte’s friend convinces her to apply so that she can get the inside story from the inside.

Jaxon is a man with deep dark secrets and a very unusual sex life. His lifestyle is not normal but you get bits and pieces as to why he is the way he is. I’m not sure what to think of this man yet. He is manipulative, cold, cocky….. He is not likeable in my eyes at the moment but I have a feeling that he will change my mind about his likeability in the coming stories.

Charlotte is young and naïve. But when she meets Jaxon, she knows it’s crazy, but his touch sets her on fire. She’s a vanilla girl but isn’t opposed to trying out new things. She has no idea what she is in store for. I don’t either but I know it’s way more than she bargained for.

I enjoyed this first installment. I was quite surprised by all the moving pieces in this puzzle. There are secrets, there are revelations, there is lust and there is hated. I look forward to reading the next installment and to add more pieces to this twisted story!!

I need more of this story so I'm really glad we don't have to wait too long for more of the story.
I love this authors stories. I've read a few and devoured them. This is the start of what looks like a really brilliant hot read.
The storyline is unique and I loved the characters. I'm so looking forward to reading the next part of this story. Although a really quick read it has really piqued my interest. Missy Johnson this could be your best story to date:)

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Intrigue, mystery, and desire.
Who is Jaxon Murphy?
Who is Charlotte Lucas?
Why do they both need each other?
"Resist"...Missy Johnson has set the stage for a fearsome and tantalizing series. I was captivated from the beginning, and also felt some trepidation.

Once again I was thrilled by the story-telling skills that are typical of Missy Johnson. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story, but felt like a good foundation was laid to solidify the beginning storyline. The originality and dual points of view from the male and female perspective were also refreshing, allowing me to experience innocence and softness as well as harshness and dominance.

The ending came way too soon. I eagerly await the next volume in this must-read series.

I don’t know quite what to make of the storyline and main characters in Missy Johnson’s new serial Resist. I can’t quite wrap my brain around why Charlotte Lucas would be willing to endure the kind of treatment she receives from Jaxon Murphy as his newest contracted woman. There’s definitely a mysterious game of cat and mouse occurring between Charlotte and Jaxon since Charlotte took up residency in Jaxon’s house. I understand Charlotte’s ultimate goal at accepting the position – why not feel sexually pleased while sneaking around trying to get the inside scope, but the end game never normally turns out the way it’s meant to when the challenge begins. Charlotte seems to be underestimating Jaxon’s prowess and the depths he’s willing to go to, to secure what he wants. He’s a man of action both in the bedroom and the boardroom, and he makes no qualms about the underhanded ways he goes about getting what he already deems his. He uses women, money – anything at his disposable, and he feels no remorse in doing so. I’m not sure what that means for Charlotte as the story progresses, especially with how the first volume ended.

The old saying resistance is futile seems fitting for Missy Johnson’s latest release, and it’s clear that Charlotte is going to get a firsthand look at how useless her pleas and refusals will be in dealing with a man like Jaxxon Murphy.

Resist does a good job of setting up the arrangements that Jaxxon sets up with his women as well as Charlotte’s agenda in applying for her new role, but there’s still a lot of information left to be revealed; the prologue leaves readers wondering how dark Jaxxon truly is and what Charlotte has gotten herself into by going undercover as one of Jaxxon’s new toys.

4.5 Cuffed to a Desk Stars

I am normally not a fan of books in Volumes, mainly because I am inpatient while waiting for the next one. This book however may be the exception.

Charlotte Lucas is fresh out of college and looking to use her degree in journalism, with jobs few and far between, her bestie suggests she answer an ad as an "assistant" to one of the most powerful men around, Jaxon Murphy.

Jaxon's past is very checkered to say the least, and Charlotte wants to use this job opportunity to make a name for herself by digging deep to find the truth behind the rumors.

“You’re so determined to rush things, Charlotte. Do I make you wet?” he whispers. I cry out as he slides a finger inside of me."

What Jason has in mind for Charlotte is nothing her very vanilla past is prepared for and she will soon find out what lengths Jaxon is willing to push her.

“Have you ever ruined someone’s life, Charlotte? Completely undone everything they’ve worked hard to build?"

~~~~~~~~~~
Well that is one way to start a series, holy hotness !!! For such a quick read it sure was filled with a whole lot of mystery, comedy, and panty melting sex.
C'mon Dec 23rd, I need Volume II
Start collecting these volumes, this series is going to keep you guessing and wanting more!!
Desperate for work, Charlotte answers an advert for an assistant with very specific requirements and very specific duties. Jaxon is the very hot man looking to fill this position. But there is definitely more to him than meets the eye and his motives are less than pure. He is driven in his choices to appear and he is driven by revenge.
Jaxon is very much a mystery which I am sure will unravel as the series unfolds. He is certainly not likeable and Charlotte's desire to please him sees her doing things that she wouldn't do normally. Jaxon is after a challenge; a challenge that he finds in Charlotte.
I am intrigued as to where this story will take us and as to whether we will end up loving or hating Jaxon, as hot as he is. I am intrigued as to whether Charlotte will fight him or give him. I'm looking forward to the next instalment of this series.
I’m pouting right now because I expected a lot more. I’m rolling my eyes…another super rich guy intent on revenge with a dominate streak. The only hint of sex was so so for me. I felt like all these elements have been combined in similar ways. If I had time I’d look at my “read” list to tell you which story already did all this BUT I’m not wasting any more time. I’ll give book 2 a shot and if it doesn’t improve I’m done.
Really enjoyed this novella, read it all at once. Jaxon is so mysterious and so alpha, I love it. You don't know what he's up to or what his intentions are until the end and then you're not sure of all the details.
Charlotte is a nice girl, fresh out of college and pretty innocent compared to Jaxon but when they are together she's more risky. Loved their secretes together and can't wait for more.
STARS: 5
POV: First
Series: Yes
Cliffhanger: Yes
**ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review**
If the point of Volume 1 is to make you want…no NEED more…like an alcoholic needs the next sip from a bottle of whisky… like a pregnant woman needs ice cream and pickles…like a car running on fumes needs a gas station...like people in Hell need water…like ok you get my drift, but if that’s the point, then Missy Johnson has hit the nail on the head!!! I kept swiping the kindle in hopes that there was more hiding somewhere!
Jaxon is mysterious and determined. So far, I love him and cannot wait to peel off the layers to see what we have inside! He is man who knows what he wants and goes after it.
Charlotte…I cannot wait to see where the story goes with her. The saying comes to mind “If you’re gonna play with fire, then you’re gonna get burned.” Charlotte is playing with fire and I have to wonder if she’s going to come out on the other end unscathed or totally destroyed.
I’ve loved Missy Johnson’s works for a while now and was excited to see what was next. She has yet to let me down once with her amazing stories. This first volume was well written. The characters are intriguing and you easily feel connected to them and their story. The cliffhanger leaves you needing more and thankfully, we won’t have to wait long for the next installment in this hard to resist series! Go 1-click it ASAP!!
From the beginning, I was super excited. The blurb, unique and catchy had me from the first word. I haven't read anything else by Missy Johnson, so I decided to give this a try. Fast paced and packed with emotion and sensuality, it’s a different take on plots I’ve read of before.
We meet Charlotte, she’s good looking and educated, and by all means should have the world in the palm of her hands at this point in her life, but she doesn't and she can’t figure out where it all went wrong. She answers an ad to work for a mysterious and rich bachelor, Jaxon, and its nothing she expected.
Charlotte came across really well for me. She has real motivations for answering the ad, a real motive for trying to find out more about Jaxon. Jaxon on the other hand is nothing of what I was expecting. I flipped through the opening pages just expecting an eccentric billionaire and I got so much more. While we don't discover everything about Jaxon in this volume, I am intrigued to find out more about him, and his mysterious past and motivations.
I have to say that I am disappointed that this is a series instead of a stand alone novel, but I can see why Missy has chosen this format. I enjoy the tempo of the story and the complexity of the characters, but I do think this would have worked better as a compiled story. It does end in a cliffhanger, as I am sure all five parts of the series will end, but I loved it.
I’m going to be reading part two as well. Well done Missy. Thanks for giving me something original and refreshing to read.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first started reading this book. I already knew it was part one of a serial so the bit of a cliffhanger wasn't unexpected. The rest...it sure as hell hooked me for the rest of the installments-and I'm not normally one to read serials.
Resist sets up a very intriguing storyline with a brief look at Jaxon's life and the setup for Charlotte to come "work" for him. The first half of this volume is pretty quiet and tame laying the foundation, but then everything takes off, leading to some riveting scenes that will have you going "Holy wow!" And what happens will definitely have you obsessed with getting to the next installment.
Charlotte's character seems to be a bit unsure; I found her likable enough but nothing really jumped out at me about her. Jaxon on the other hand-I found myself wanting to know every detail I could get my hands on. Only a small bit has been revealed so far, making him a fascination that I can't wait to discover more about. And I like that fact that the POV alternates between the two of them-I always like getting to hear the male POV, I find it always adds so much more to the story.
4.5 stars for Resist, and I sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment, Ravage!
Well well well, Missy Johnson sure knows how to be original!
I noticed this book waiting for me in the morning and I downloaded it and thought I'll just read it later in te day or something... Well let's just say I've been a naughty girl and read the book in class! ;)
Soo this was so good and I was so focused reading it that when I came near the end and I was like NOOOOOOO, are you kidding me? I'm s happy that we don't have to wait too long for the next installment.
I was thoroughly surprised by this one... It'll sure knock you of your booties! ;) Very original, sexy and with a huge splash of mystery behind it...
Jaxon: ***???*** He sure is a man with a lot of question marks behinds his name and yet he is so alluring...
Charlotte: Young woman, broken heart and ready for a new challenge.. Let's just say she won't know what hit her once she starts working for Jax! ;-)
That ending... Intruiging, very intruiging! Count me hooked for sure :)
WoW just WoW!!! After being introduced to the sexy as hell Jaxon Murphy I have one question.......Where can I get an application?!?!!! He is a beyond sexy CEO of his own company who likes what he likes when he likes it. Then enter his newest employee Charlotte a college educated woman who can't find work on her field. She is then told by a girlfriend to apply for a job with a very broad listing of what is required. Imagine her surprise when she is granted an interview. Then the cat & mouse game begins. This book lets me hungry for more,the chemistry between him and Charlotte is off the charts. I found myself swiping my kindle trying to get to the next page yelling at it because it was the end. I am very intrigued about Jax and his past, and I can't wait to read the rest of the story. Even though I don't like when the story is split in several books, since I am a very impatient person, the story is so intriguing that I can't help but be sucked in.
