All three books in the bestselling Blue Eyes Trilogy are available together in one collection. Books 1-3 in the Night Human World follow the story of Arianna Grace, a girl who shortly after her sixteenth birthday finds herself thrust into the world of the night humans. Surrounded by the vampire-like Dearg-dul, the werewolf people called Lycans, the dream-consuming Baku, and the angelic Tengu, Arianna struggles to grow and find her place in the new world.
Originally from Wisconsin, B. Kristin currently resides in Ohio with her husband, three small children, and three cats. My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! Great YA paranormal series!!! ***Originally I was given a copy for review of each book, but I have bought the whole series!!!
The Legend of the Blue Eyes (Book 1) I really liked this story with all the twists and turns and mysterious back story that you only learn bits and pieces as you go keep you intrigued. It did have some boring parts here and there, but this is the first book so it is needed to make sure we understand what’s going on. I absolutely love Arianna though at the beginning she is a bit of a cliché blonde where everything goes over her head, but it is because she’s very naïve and been kept in the dark. It is amazing to watch her learn about night humans and grow as a character. I was laughing with her, irritated, worried, and cried with her. I know I’m sucked into a story when it makes me cry. I also want to mention that I love her name because if I ever had a daughter her name would have been Arianna because I always thought it was beautiful (oddly enough I found the name in a romance book which is amusing to me). I think anyone who enjoys paranormal fantasy would fall in love with Arianna and this world that Kristin created. I absolutely can’t wait to read book 2 because I think it is only going to get better as a series.
Becoming a Legend (Book 2) First, Kristin is a sweetheart when I read the first book and liked it so much, she gifted me the 2nd book for an honest review. I love when an author talks to their fans. She is a sweetheart :)
This book was even better than the last one :) The author weaves a fabulous story :) It has all sorts of action, another birthday, parties, deception, more secrets, getaways, and so much more. I loved the growth in Ari’s character in this book as she starts to take control of her life. She learns all sorts of new things about herself and the legend in this book. I was sucked into the story and loved every minute. I love the world Kristin has created, and you learn so much more about it in this book. I cannot wait for book 3. I hope we don’t have to wait long :)
Winning the Legend (Book 3) I really want to add these to my classroom library to share with my students….someday when I’m independently wealthy and can afford to do it with all the books I’d love to share with them.
This is the third book in the YA trilogy The Blue Eyes. I read the first two books back in 2013. While you probably do not have to read the books in order, I recommend you do because you will miss out on the relationships built and becoming invested in the characters lives :)
I’m not sure why I waited so long to read this one because I really do love this series. It took me a chapter or two to remember my characters and remember what was going on, but once I did I didn’t want to put it down. Of course, I had a few things that disrupted my plan of no interruptions while reading :) but kids do that ;)
Arianna is a typical high school girl who is unsure of herself at times, but she shows such fierce determination to be free and loyalty and love to her friends and family. She also has more compassion than most girls her own age which makes me admire her all the more :) I really do love all her keepers and family too!!
B. Kristin’s style of writing is an easy read, and I had no problems imagining my way through her creative and awesome world. I am amazed at how she wove all sorts of Night Humans into her world and such a complex plot where all the Night Humans are concerned. I am ecstatic that this world continues on in another series Day Human which I will definitely be reading :)
I highly recommend this must read for paranormal fans, and I want to add the whole series in paperback to my classroom library for my budding paranormal fans :)
Book 1: Legend of the Blue Eyes Wow, truly awesome take on the vampire myth, not to mention werewolves and other supernatural races, as we know them. I loved the way we found out about the night human world right along with Arianna, and the fact that so much happened so quickly, but it wasn't presented in a way that got very confusing. There were some minor editing issues, but otherwise an outstanding first book for the blue eyes trilogy. The action would seem to slow down, but that was just due to it being more behind the scenes and hidden from Ari than it was dying down completely. And I friggin loved Molina and Devin. 5 stars for sure!
Book 2: Becoming the Legend Many times, book 2 in a trilogy seems stretched thin and full of fluff. This was absolutely not the case with Becoming the Legend. As the title implies we learn more about what it means for Ari to accept being the blue eyes of legend. There are some emotional moments in this part of the story, and I was affected much more strongly than I anticipated. Andrew really comes into his role as Arianna's baku keeper, though there is definitely more to their relationship. I kept thinking I knew where things stood with Deviin, but be prepared for a surprise there as well. Another excellent piece of the legend, hands down 5 stars
Book 3: Winning the Legend There is always the nagging worry that the end of a trilogy will leave you wildly disappointed. Thankfully, this was not the case with Blue Eyes! Winning the Legend was everything you could want in a trilogy closing book- all the action, the romantic tension and turmoil, the suspense, and the feeling of being overwhelmed at her new life remains strong in this installment. Although I had my own idea about who Ari should be with, I was pleased with the outcome, and rather enjoyed how many different times she and the gang had to completely change course due to unforeseen obstacles and setbacks. Devin and the boys are wonderfully delicious as ever, but now we meet even more male night humans vying for a chance to win the lady's hand. And the closing lines of this book almost had me in tears. It's just so beautifully written and unexpectedly profound. I could have been devastated that this part of the story had come to an end, but instead I felt like I had just closed a door I can open to go see these friends at any time. That's the beauty of a truly great book- it's there for your to re-read at your convenience. Absolutely 5 stars, since that is the highest rating available anyway!
In fairness, I did enjoy this enough to read all three. The story has interesting bones, and I spent the entire time imagining how it would read if I could gut it and rewrite everything.
Broadly, it’s a YA romance set in the backdrop of a fantasy world. The night human politics, social stances, racial divides, revolution, childhood trauma, etc are all hanging out in the background but are only lightly sketched out and remain very much secondary to the angsty teen romance. I would LOVE to see a version of this where the serious aspects of all that backdrop were given far more weight, and the writing assumed a lot more intelligence on the part of the reader.
The “clean romance” is just smut for 13 year olds. It’s full of teens stealing kisses, feeling tingles, and rolling around in bed. Just no sex and nothing more explicit than a mention of panties.
As themes go, this story pretends on a surface level to portray a strong female lead who’s giving a big F-you to the power hungry patriarchal society she’s landed in. But it falls horribly short. It absolutely fails the sexy leg lamp test. She is a passenger in every book, with occasional scenes paying lip service to her autonomy and authority. As clan leader, other people do all the planning and organizing, and she mindlessly signs away even her own rights. As a fighter, she allows every male she has a crush on to fight for her even well after she surpasses them in ability, with some weak excuse about her “mate” [but not lover, right? ;) ] having some right to fight on her behalf. As a young woman, she is portrayed as whiny. The author’s most frequent alternative wording for, “she said” seems to be “she complained.” She is also portrayed as lovesick and constantly agonizing over which boy to pick. (But she has deep connections to so many! And it’s written into the prophecy that she has to merge them all. And so many of these dudes are so chill about her loving all of them. HUGE missed opportunity for a polyamorous plot twist.)
The writing style is still new. This author spells everything out for you, relies on a lot of YA tropes, and leaves loose ends lying around. One book might emphasize some crucial thing in their world, but then it will never get mentioned again. One scene might introduce some logic for a decision, but later, that logic goes right out the window.
It has a lot of growing to do as a story, and it’s full of interesting pieces that could be so much more.
My favorite quote: My past defines who I am by the choices I have made. My future is defined by being smart enough to learn from those choices.—Ari *****The Legend of the Blue Eyes #1: A blue eyed prophesy and pure blood royalty - a child of two races, meant to lead and unite all factions. Pure love, and pure hate. Secrets and powerful motivations. An entertaining and well written story with likable characters and a good pace! *****Becoming A Legend #2: very good! This story is nicely paced with a great group of characters and an engaging story line. Love Ari, and the people who love her. Some losses in this story, and secrets revealed. A plan is in place for the challenges to win Ari — she will have to fulfill the legend to win peace. Love, heartbreak and strength... onward to book 3. *****Winning the Legend #3: This story kept me interested and entertained, and ended with a nice HEA - but with a lead in for the next books in the series. A good pace (although the games seemed a bit slow). Really likable and well developed characters, and I’ll be reading more of this series. —PTators
I just finished binge reading this series, and I loved it. I will say that it could use a good edit with a word missing here and there, but the storyline is strong and well executed. The Author did a great job with descriptions and there were times when I felt like I was in the story. On the down side, there were also times when the author repeated herself quite a bit.
Characterization was good, and every character was unique and had a solid place in the story. Personalities differ, shine, and clash as the case may be (No spoilers here), and they all had their own gifts to add to the story.
The author B. Kristin McMichael is able to do what so many authors' wish they could and that is to paint pictures with their words. Her style of writing allows you to easily glide from scene yo scene as she built her characters and the world they live in.!! Some people in their review of her first book didn't see her abilities and will totally miss out reading super fantasy paranormal, magical worlds and creatures with a great blend of adventure, tension and just the right dose of romance. Loved the series and can't wait for the next books.
This is a very good series! I was really intrigued with all the characters wondering where things were going to lead. There is lots of action and humor and you really fall in love with most of the characters. It’s books like this that you hate to see end. You become so entwined with them you feel like the characters just come alive. I would highly recommend this series and anything else from this author.
I truly enjoyed this trilogy, I don't normally bother to read books that include vampires as usually they have people running around with wood stakes to kill the next undead person they find. To give the author credit she has a marvelous imagination to create such great books with fantastic people in each one
The author did a good job of creating a world to get lost in. These books were enjoyable and I do plan to read the Day Human series. My only issue is the need for editing. When every page or two you’re stopping to reread and mentally correct sentences to make sense it brings you out of the world you’ve lost yourself in. At least for me.
This trilogy is truly captivating. I struggled to put it down. The amazing writing draws you into another world with mesmerising characters and keeps you guessing throughout. Well worth reading.
Read the books previously and am really happy to now own them as a trilogy. The story makes you wish you knew where to find night humans. The story is entertaining, clean (lots of kissing but not descriptive) and free of gutter language.
Thoughts on the Whole Trilogy: 3 Stars This trilogy start with a popular trope of 'surprise-your-supernatural' but the Night Human World has an interesting variety of species, a legend and multiple potential romances. The second book was a bit of a dip in enjoyment for me although some important relationship developments occur. The final book in this series was defiantly the best book in this series with Arianna finally finding her feet, fulfilling the legend, and sorting out her feelings for the people around her.
Review of Book One: The Legend of the Blue Eyes
I picked this book up free on kindle late one evening and was presently surprised. The book is by no means a perfect story but as you can see by my rating it was an enjoyable book. Because there were both good and bad things about this book I have spilt them into two lists:
What I didn’t like:
• The ‘surprise-your-supernatural-creature’ trope I have read this trop far too many times.
• The instinct attraction between Arianna and David, that happens because they met for a week when they were children and he has ‘been-watching her’ since (Don’t really understand how she can be ok with that and why they love each other because of this?!?)
• The fact there is a legend that must not be talked about, half told legend that isn't explained.
What I did like:
• The fact there is a legend that must not be talked about, the mystery but knowing that she is 'destined for greatness'.
• That Arianna has so many guys ‘bidding’ for her attention – can’t wait to read more in this series to see who she finally decides on.
• The mix of night creatures and the basics of a political system which I think will become more important in later books as Arianna becomes more involved in it.
• Also look forward to reading how Arianna having a Keeper from each species is going to work with their hatred for each other running so deep.
• Arianna’s home sickness – made it more realistic. I could image at 16 being thrown into a completely new world, being introduced to your family and not knowing anyone at all, the longing for normality would be strong.
Overall this was an enjoyable book a quick fun read with a few things that weren't great but nothing that shopped me reading. I hope that now Arianna is beginning to get use to this new world that in the next few books we get a slightly more original storyline.
Book Two: Becoming a Legend
I felt as though this book was a bit of a filler book. Important things did happen in the: romance side of this plot; the development and destruction of trust between central characters and Arianna also took so important steps toward find her place in the Night Human world.
Book Three: Winning the Legend
I enjoyed this book so much more than the second book. The competition added so much to this story with yet more people playing for Arianna's hand in marriage. I also enjoyed the development in the relationships between Arianna's and her friends and keepers. I really enjoyed Arianna's resolve to get rid of the traditions and her desire the prevent war. She is really clever in her strategy for achieving these two goals. An enjoyable and to the trilogy.
I loved these books. The story was complete. Interesting characters but very different. Sexual innuendo but not explanatory. I find this refreshing. This is the story of Adriana, a beautiful young woman living with her aunt and uncle who discovers she is not who she thought she was. Then there is Devin who lives and trained with her grandfather. A grandfather she didn't know existed until she was kidnapped one night. Knowing that her mother and father died when she was young. Then her life changes drastically. I recommend this series, as I said earlier it is different from other fantasy stories. You will read about a young woman whose powers are a bit different and the people who surround her to keep her safe. This is the first I have read this lady and I am sure I will read others as I find her an expert in her field.
This was an interesting trilogy of books about Arianna. Arianna didn't know anything about her parent's heritage until her birthday and is thrown into the night human world. Arianna is learning about the new world and her role in it. It was interesting watching all the clans and how they treated her at first versus when she came into her powers.
