This was a good read! I think I missed out on this book when I was originally reading this series and skipped right to the next Cat and Bones book. I remember being a little surprised when I got to that one and Mencheeres had someone. I loved that we were able to get some more background on Mencheeres and lore about the world in general. Kiera has major big sister energy and I really felt that. As a big sister myself, the need that she had to take care of her siblings was a very big driving force in her life. Also I really liked that she was out here fighting for her man! She definitely wanted him to see that there was more to live for and to not give up. I wish there was a little bit more explanation to how she was his darkness. That part either I missed or just wasn't clarified as much as it needed to be. Introducing more about the magic side of this world was also a nice addition to the lore!!

The spice in this book was definitely a lot less that I would like and I'm not sure if it's less descriptive in this or what but I was almost confused about the fact that anything happened! Between that and the rarity of it happening I have to give this a 2 on the spice scale. Overall, it was definitely a nice addition to the series. We are inching closer and closer to my favorite series set in this world and I can't wait to start it! I would recommend this one to anyone who has liked this series already! Vampire romance lovers will like this, especially if heavy spice isn't your thing!

Basic Plot: Mencheres, a 4000 year-old vampire, falls in love and saves himself from certain doom.

Overall, a fun addition to the Graphic Audio versions of these books. The voice actors, especially the voice of Mencheres, were very good.

The power of the characters and the lack of any form of real danger to them has been a problem throughout this series. In this book, though, even though the plot centers around Mencheres, a ridiculously old, ridiculously powerful vampire, we see him vulnerable due to having lost one of his most powerful abilities, his visions of the future. Moreover, he actually believes he will die. We also see him up against a villain who knows him well enough to actually get one over on him intellectually (at least for awhile) and put Mencheres on the run.

There were a few romantic tropes that bugged me for a bit (nearly insta-love, main characters NOT TALKING to each other, ARGH), but Vlad was there, so that mends a lot of ills. I kept finding my brain wandering off track, which I think is just a me problem, but I'm not 100% sure of that. While I liked the voice acting, there was just a lot of the plot that felt like filler thus go around. Not sure.
