Skye Knizley is the USA Today bestselling author of the Storm Chronicles series, an urban fantasy tale that mixes mystery, magic and horror, Midnight Roads, her homage to road movies with a dash of mystery and horror and the Shadowlands series of modern adventure/mysteries. All of her books feature strong female leads who can hold their own the men and then some, witticisms and of course Skye’s trademark snark.

Skye lives in the middle of nowhere, the small town life appeals to her and is conducive to writing. When she isn’t writing Skye can be found camping, motorcycling and hiking with her psychotic Siberian husky.

Skye is also a proud gamer girl and an avid fan of roleplaying games. She currently participates in a weekly game held at a local gaming store (stop in and say ‘hi!’) and is the writer and game-master of a private Fantasy Flight Star Wars game held once a month.

I want to see Fresh Blood made into a movie! While reading, I was thinking this would make a totally cool horror movie that could also end up as a cult classic, or even be filmed like the movie, Sin City!

The author wrote this so well that the reader can see and feel the surroundings just as the characters were experiencing them. It didn’t seem like I had to use my imagination at all, the author painted the picture wonderfully (and very graphically in some cases!).

Fresh Blood is about two tough as nails, monster killing, twins. It is such a cool story! The twins, Jynx and Piper (whose names I totally love!), are freelance monster hunters. There is an underground system of these hunters that is somewhat organized. It is lead by Agent Ford, who hands out the hunter’s assignments, gives financial backing, and covers their tracks when needed. The regular law enforcement agencies do not know about these hunters (or the monsters they hunt!) so all investigations for a case, have to be done secretly, and in many cases, the information needed to solve a case is obtained illegally.

Jynx and Piper get their assignments from Agent Ford, but they are the renegades of the hunters and follow their own rules. They have proven themselves to be worthy of even the toughest hunter’s respect due to their success records with their cases.

The story starts with a heart-pounding scene that sets the tone for the rest of the book. Jynx and Piper are afraid of nothing and have great dialogues with each other. They are witty and funny. I really like these characters, as they are just badass girls that back their words with their actions.

We know that something has happened to the rest of their family but are never told what. Throughout the book, there are hints about their brother that explain why Jynx and Piper are hunters. Becoming hunters was not something they aspired to be. It was passed on to them from their father but we do have yet to find out why. Not knowing this information does not take away from the book. It leaves the reader curious to find out more about the family and eager for the next book to gain more insight into this mystery.

Fresh Blood is a really fun read. It is well written with great dialog and detailed descriptions. Even though there are some gruesome scenes, the author manages to add wit and humor to them as well.

*****This book was provided by the author for an honest review*****

Skye had me at LYCAN! I will never turn down a book with the “L” word! Nope… Never… Nada… Ummmm… Well and I love getting my digs in a series when it’s set to start! As in ~ FIRST IN SERIES NEW RELEASE! (Just hope I don’t have to wait long for the next one)

There are a few things I love about a book aside from an awesome plot line which Fresh Blood has in the bag. The bullet points I look for are well developed characters, a world built with consistent facts and an author that knows their way around body movement, either sexually or in battle. Skye has mastered all those elements within the chapters of this book. She was able to capture my attention and contain it long enough for me to read it in one sitting. I now wonder why it has taken me so long to read one of her books.

Jynx and Piper take you on a wild ride through the assignments handed to them by their “Agent” but they often govern themselves with their own rules and regulations. My kind of girls all right! Kick A$$ Rock Stars never bow down to the government especially when they have their designs on the people that took down their family.

If you are looking for some awesome paranormal read, pick this book up and get comfy! I give you 5 stars for an entertaining read and tip my Nerd Girl hat to you! <3 Ya!

I absolutly loved this book! Another great book by Skye Knizley! This is the first book in her new Midnight Roads series. This paranormal thriller packed with action, adventure, supernatural baddies, two snarky kick butt heroines and some awesome toys! The Kane twins have taken over the family business of hunting the supernatural forces that haunt the cursed crossroads all over the nation. Working for a secret government agency they are sent to hunt down and terminate things that go bump in the night and try to save the victims. Something is kidnapping girls in St. Charles, MO and the girls have to race to figure out whats doing it, save the girls that have already been taken and keep more from being abducted. This is a nonstop thrill ride and I can't wait to read what's next for Piper and Jynx!

This book is suitable for mature young adult to adult readers.

This series must be read in order. This is the first book.

Identical twins Jynx and Piper (named after exotic birds) are employed by the government to clandestinly hunt monsters and save their victims if possible. They have a creepy boss that gives them their bounties and pays them when they have fulfilled a mission(though usually they have to fight with her to get a fair price) and generally gives them a hard time. But what else are they gonna do? It was their father's job before it was theirs. And with their little brother at the mercy of some skeevy Lycans it is best they keep in the know and well funded.

This was a nonstop thrill ride of monster slaying mayhem with plenty of mysteries to solve along the way. The action and adventure totally ramped up the suspense of this paranormal thriller! There was no romance to speak of which was a breath of fresh air for this genre busting start to an awesome new series! These girls sure know how to keep the laughs coming even in the direst of circumstances :) I am totally addicted and will be waiting anxiously for the next book to become available!

I didn't enjoy this as much as the Storm Chronicles series. Honestly, 19-year old twins Jynx and Piper had too much attitude and immaturity to be likable as lead characters. I also didn't like their constant witty banter. It got old very fast. While I appreciated that they were out to catch the supernatural bad guys--and had some pretty incredible knowledge and capabilities for their age--these factors just didn't help their likability factor.

Somewhat improbably, they work for the government as supernatural bounty hunters. In this first book of the series, they are sent to a small town looking for a killer who is dismembering teenage girls. And they can never seem to catch a break. They constantly find themselves in bad situations that force them to fight for their lives.

I'll admit, Fresh Blood was fast-paced, generally well-written (with just a few punctuation and grammatical errors), and engaging. But I doubt I will continue with this series based on my dislike of the characters.

I totally loved this amazing book, that I did not put down until it was done. I loved the action and the banter back and forth between the sisters and the monsters. This book is filled with non stop action and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait to see what adventures and mishaps happen in the next book.

Skye Knizley is a fantastic author and must be read. You will not be sorry.
