stories were ok some were weird. I enjoyed "Until the Twelfth Night by Cherie Chulick" the most. Which is how I gave it 3 stars cause most of the other stories were ok some just weird couldnt get into "How Lovely Your Branches" Also found The Perfect Gift by Nicole Blanchard enjoyable and that one made you really think had some good quotes.
This was an enjoyable read. Some of these stories were good, some of them were really good. Unfortunately the editing was just awful. A type-o here and there doesn't bother me, but the editing mistakes in some of these stories were enormous and I found them quite distracting.
I read a couple of the stories in this collection about 8 years ago and have never been able to get one of them - How Lovely Your Branches by Kara Ashley Dey - out of my head. Something about the style and imagery stuck with me all these years.
I decided recently to read the entire collection and was thrilled that that story lived up to my memory of it. It is just beautiful. The very last story - In the Bleak Midwinter by Andra Brynn - was also incredible. I’m so glad I read this collection for those two stories alone. The rest ranged from ok to embarrassingly bad, but I won’t name any names.
Unfortunately this collection doesn’t seem to be in print any longer, and Kara Ashely Deys story isn’t available anywhere else. I’m really glad I have this copy. Those two stories will probably be ones I’ll read every holiday season
I picked up this collection because I liked the magick and Christmas theme. I didn't realize the stories were New Adult, and I'm not so fond of that sub-genre. As is usual with a collection, some of them I really liked and others were not to my taste. Overall, I enjoyed reading the collection and would recommend it to someone who wants to read New Adult. (Contains Magick but not paranormal) The ones I liked I would give 4 or 5 stars. The others varied from 2 to 3 stars, and I split the difference with a 3 star rating. "Until the Twelfth Night" is a historical romance, almost gothic in tone. I liked the ghosts, the supporting cast of characters, and the romance. I was enthralled by "How Lovely Your Branches", and couldn't put it down. Poor Katie was held prisoner in her own house, haunted by ghosts and her past, ultimately rescued and introduced into a coven with a sexy warlock. What a great hero! The ending was well done. Action, drama, and a great reveal - all questions answered. "In the Bleak Midwinter" was another one I liked. It was darker than the others, and I enjoyed the mystery and suspense surrounding 'the boy in the woods.' "A Love Charm for Dakota" really didn't grab me. I had a hard time sympathizing with H/h in "The Perfect Gift." "The Snow Queen" and "A Kiss is just a Kiss" were well done, but too heavy with the NA trope for my taste. Others may really like them.
There were some good stories in this collection. There were also some that I really didn't care for. I found the last story to be disjointed and hard to follow and a few of them were just not something I would have picked to read on their own. It is something that I feel is worth a read if you are looking for some Christmas stories with a little magic in them.
Great book of short stories. Don't let that stop you from reading it. Each and every story is a gem of it's own, from beginning to end. If you are into love spells, ghosts, demos, evil beings, love, romance and all things magical, this is the read for you. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I give it 5 stars!!
I admit this is not quite what I expected! It sizzled but at the same time there were stories that I had to read with all the lights on because I am a chicken! Some were sweet and one I almost entirely skipped thru but for the most part an enjoyable book. There are times when you just want short magical stories!
I enjoyed most of the books in this set. A few weren't ones that interest me but the rest I loved. There is plenty of paranormal Christmas stories to keep you entertained and you will find new authors worth reading in this set.
Liked all of the stories. My favorite was How Lovely Your Branches by Kara Ashley Dey. Typically I don't read this type of book but I enjoyed these very much.
I never have been one to read christmasy stories but these were all very sweet and interesting. Except the last one. The last one was pretty spooky. But I would definitely recommend this to others.
Mistletoe and Magick is 7 short stories by some amazing authors. Definitely put me back in the Yule/Christmas mood. All of these stories revolve around the magick of the Yule season... set in different time periods and different lands. Definitely worth one clicking today!
I enjoyed reading these stories, some were wicked, some sexy, some were a great adventure. They weren't all amazing reads but they were interesting enough to keep reading.
