Rate this book

Two men - two secrets - one war.

In the middle of Italy in 1943…

Romeo, a young Italian undercover informant for the communist party, is the only local witness of a historical event. But for him meeting the German paratrooper Julian is more important than that.

Julian had to live by the strict rules of his country for many years, hide away what he feels. One tragedy after the other undermined his will to live and he is ready to give up.

His final jump changes everything.

Reading, reading – what’s more beautiful than a book? Between each cover lie many worlds to explore! Having spent her youth in an array of libraries, it is no wonder that the attic of Bealevon’s home is filled with crates full of books.

Due to the small German romance book market, fast reading Bealevon was forced to turn to the English language originals at last. This improved her English so much she worked several years for a German publisher as an English reader in between other jobs. Her first love of m/f romances burnt out after a decade of mind clouding stories in the mid-nineties, and she turned back to her hobby of reading about historical events.

Delighted by the invention and spread of the ebook, she tentatively tried some free ones. One of those happened to be an m/m romance, and she was caught, hook, line and sinker. Discovering books that were diamonds as well as coal shaped her taste. Aside from fluffy fantasy and fairy tale, she likes action and fighting in her books. And there are definitely not enough of them on the market!

For years, she dabbled in fanfiction and enhancement of existing stories for her own enjoyment, continually pulled between reading more and writing by herself. As soon as her son moved out, she grabbed the opportunity of self-publishing at last, sat down and wrote – in English… although her high school English teachers probably turn over in their graves as she was a mediocre pupil at best. She gets much needed solitude for working out the details of the chapters while walking her dog twice a day. No effort is spared to make sure her stories are logical and believable, yes, even the fairy tales...

She lives with her husband and her dog in northern Germany and loves to hear from her readers!

What was there was good, very good. But the story ended- quite abruptly- just when it was starting. I want a longer version of this, because it deserves one.

This was an opportunity wasted. The premise was nice, and the beginning set up was as well. But then just as you settle in to really sink in your teeth into the story it abruptly ( and I do mean abruptly) ends. It felt very much like the author just lost interest and gave up. Its really too bad. I really love a great short story. Anyone looking for a great historical (sort of) mm romance should check out Trick of Time.

No lo he detestado.

The premise seemed very nice at first glance, but I didn't find any depth to the story, especially when coming to the "Romeo and Juliet" refference (which I found none). An easy read to pick up sometime when in a rush, but that's all it was for me. Were it a longer book, maybe I would have enjoyed it more.

Short and impactful

Not particularly a romance. It was short but very well written. In the backdrop of a war. Interesting characters that can be explored more in a longer version. Enjoyable.

Nice!

I really enjoyed the story just wished there was more to it. I liked the detail and realism. Would recommend for those who enjoy historical fiction off the m/m variety.
