2.5 stars

Killian is a famous painter who one day sees a beautiful redhead go by his window. He races after her and convinces her to model for him for two weeks.

Melissa is a mystery writer who is at first confused and then drawn in to the sticky web of lust and sex with the gorgeous but oddly frightening artist, whose huge paintings seem to consist of horrifying harpies and other apocalyptic images. Her two weeks of modeling only give her a taste of his presence; she misses him. When he reappears and asks her to enter into a D/s contract with him for a month, she agrees.

Next follows a very confusing period, with blurred lines between the “game” times and the normal parts of their lives. She senses that all is not right with Killian, and as she explores his past with and without his consent by spying on him and asking people questions, a disturbing picture comes to light. Who is he, and what demons shaped the darkness that continues to shine in the depths of his eyes? How can he be so sweet and then in an instant, so violent? Will he ever turn that on her?

Who is going to tell Melissa that sometimes what you love is what you need to fear the most? Killian can, but he’s not telling…

I found this book disturbing on many levels. I am very uncomfortable when an obviously mentally disturbed person is given sexual dominance over someone else, especially when BDSM is involved. The intent to harm is always there in my mind. In several cases, boundaries were crossed that made me question the mental health of both of the characters. That made this book seriously NOT sexy for me. I also had issues with the writing style, as the switch from third person to first person was often abrupt. The use of nicknames along with the full name in close proximity was jarring and added to my confusion. I also felt a lack of cohesion and was frequently confused by the narration and the direction of the story line. Was this deliberate? I can’t say; all I can tell you is that it lead to a very choppy, distracted read.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find the behavior of either of the characters sexy, intriguing, or compelling. I was often downright frightened of what Killian’s character would do next–I felt it was evident that his intent was to harm himself or another person. I felt the story was contrived and unrealistic, and I found myself less and less inclined to care as it continued. By the time I reached the cliffhanger ending, I was done with the book. I wish the author luck, but I will be passing on the next installment.

Review

I received a reviewer’s copy of this book from Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours in exchange for an honest review as part of the blog tour for this work.

Let me say this first, Killian is a scary guy. Even before his real story was revealed in the book, I always thought there was something frighteningly scary about him. That being said, I am going to rate this book three red hearts because the author was successful in creating a character who was dark enough to scare even me.

I liked this book in the way that the pace was just right. You get to know Lessi very well, the way she falls for Killian, the way she tries to stand up for herself, the way she gets confused with Killian’s mood swings. As the reader, you want her to run as far away from him as possible, but you also want a miracle and wish for her and Killian to have their happy ending, as scary as he can be sometimes.

Killian, on the other hand, well, he’s somthing else, alright. All throughout the book, I couldn’t exactly say how I felt about him. I wanted him to be the hero. He had great moments. He had charm. He had depth and emotion. However, there were also moments when you want him to lose her because Lessi deserved someone way better.

I think the author did a great job in creating two characters who will stick with you even after you finish the book. There were some things that put me off, but all in all, it was a good read. It shows in Goodreads that this is a first book in a series. I hope there is a second book because I really want to know what happens to Lessi and Killian after the final scene in the book.

His Name is Killian is the unconventional romance story of Killian and Melissa, two people who couldn’t possibly be more different yet are, for some inexplicable reason, drawn to each other. Killian is a painter. He notices Melissa, a writer, one day and asks her to pose for him. She’s hesitant at first, but then agrees to do it. She soon finds herself drawn into his dark and tempting world, of rough, sensual and sexual games. But Killian has a dark side that slowly reveals itself as time moves on, and Melissa must decide if she can live with his mood swings in exchange for a kind of pleasure she didn’t think existed.

Melissa is a rather plain character. Killian here, is the interesting one. He poses an enigma, a riddle, hiding dark secrets Melissa has to uncover if she wants to know him completely. At the same time, he’s also quite scary. I found him intriguing, truly one of the most intriguing characters I’ve read about. And that he chooses Melissa of all people only make his choices more mysterious.

The book is intense, sometimes on the dark side, and over all, it offers an intriguing story with a surprising twist near the end.

Killian, so beautiful, so sensual, so twisted and sick. I just couldn't put this book down thinking killian gets help. Melissa will see him through and have a HEA. T

As the story progresses there's no help in sight and Killian's behavior gets darker. Nothing gets better but just when story is starting to take direction there is a bootable twist you don't expect and it ends. What? There must be more to this twisted tale of mental illness at it's worst buy there is not. I hate cliffhangers, but this is an ending I didn't see coming. Five beautiful stars for Killian, a truly well developed character. Good to know book two is out.

39% 🧐

Killian, although a very prominent artist, is VERY troubled! Melissa, is a writer, comes out of the shoot as shy and naive, and then by 39% of the book gets off on Killian 's mood swings. I say book instead of story because nothing has been set up as a direction for a story at this point. This may end as a happy ever after, but I have no idea. I just couldn't finish it. There may not be a cliffhanger or cheating, but again I can't say because I couldn't finish it.

I got this as a "dark & dirty" recommendation in a fb book group & could not put it down! It's definitely not an easy, everything works out, feel good story & ends a bit on a cliffhanger. This book has beautiful story & is worth the read if these types of reads are your cup of tea. I say go for it!! I'm excited to start the 2nd book & see where the story & characters go from here. 🖤

Good

Interesting and unpredictable. A bit slow in the beginning but picks up in the middle and moved toward an ending that is a major cliffhanger.

I give it 3.5 fangs. There may be a few spoilers in this review.

His Name is Killian by Ella Adamian is a stand alone book. I highly suggest this book for mature adults only.

Melissa is a fiery redhead that catches Killian attention immediately. She is a mystery book writer. Killian is a famous painter and wants to paint her. But he wants more than that from her.

Melissa quickly falls for Killian, but Killian is anything but normal. There is something wrong with him psychologically and sexually but Melissa doesn’t let that stop her love for him.

I feel myself yelling at Melissa to run and stay away. And at the same time I just want to smack Killian with some sense. I want them to have that happy ending. I just don’t know if can really happen.

Without giving away any more spoilers, if you like BDSM with a dark edge, then you should read this book.

* * ARC received on behalf of obsessed by books for an honest review * *

Melissa is a writer of mystery and believes in love. Killian is anything but vanilla.

Killian notices Melissa one day and approaches her to see if she would pose for him. She is so mesmerized by him that she can't say no. Melissa falls hard and fast for Killian. Killian takes Melissa on a dark sexual fantasy ride. Killian can have a kind, tender side but we don't see that much as Melissa starts to see changes in Killian. He can go from nice to angry in 2 seconds, not sure what's going on, Melissa can bring herself to leave him. Killian is dealing with demons of the past. but will they ever be able to move forward. I gave this 4 star, cause I'm not really sure what's going on with Killian, I enjoyed it and I'm curious to see what happens next.

Left me wanting more

I never review books because I feel inadequate in my words.I was wanting more of Killians story.I cannot afford to read more of this story but what I did read, left me wanting to find out if love did conquer all or if it was just an illusion of being caught up with great sex.People do get up in the best sex of their lives and knowing something isn't right in their guts.I want to see how Melissa evolves from all this and just how strong she can be for herself and others. And the sex.....OMG!!I will take some crazy sex, thank you very much.Loved your novel Ella Adamian.

His name is Killian.

He is a painter. He spots Melissa and does everything to make her his muse. She is a writer and he does not do vanilla, or have his heart involved in anything but what he puts on the canvas.

For a book that's considered psychological erotica, this story does have some twists and turns that I did not see coming and hoped would not exist! The story does have a steady pace which does not numb, shock or bore a reader, especially if you are not aware of BDSM.

I did not like how Killian got away with most of his actions, because he was a rich painter, and had some great connections- I wish he did face some consequences aside from psychological torture.

English is not the author's first language. While I enjoyed the premise of the storyline some of the author's word choices seemed a bit off and some were incorrect altogether. I am picky about grammar and wording in books. Several times while reading this I felt the word choice to be unnatural.

I am not a big fan of HFN (happy for now) cliffhanger endings. So needless to say, I didn't like the ending. There is an epilogue that attempted to wrap up the book but I would've liked the ending to be more detailed.

This is most definitely psychological erotica. Captivating in so many ways and yet there's an unhidden ribbon of melancholy threaded throughout the story. And what a final chapter! Surprises abound and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next release.

(This cover is different from the one I actually read - mine had a white mask in place of the collar/cuff - but I did read this book version.)
