Sydnee Garrett has a lot on her to-do list. Wrangle her young and rambunctious twin boys. Check. Get her life back in order since her husband decided to leave her for a much younger woman. Check. And buy a Christmas tree. Check. What she wasn’t expecting was adding one more thing to her list. A young, sexy personal trainer. Check. Quinn Masters is a man who knows what he wants and doesn’t take no for an answer. He isn’t fazed by age or race differences and he does everything in his power to win Sydnee over. Will Sydnee continue to fight for her orderly life or welcome in the chaos that’s threatening to change her entire world?
Railyn Stone is a contemporary romance author, whose work includes The Christmas Tree Guy, A Secret to Keep, Restored Hearts, Lest We Aren't Forgiven and Love and Loopholes. She likes to write about characters that will make you love them, hate them and fall in love with them all over again
THE CHRISTMAS TREE GUY by Railyn Stone features a heroine that made me want to shake my head. Sydnee is in her thirties, divorced, and the mother of twin boys. She is also a woman with little confidence. I found myself often wanting Sydnee to be more secure in herself and realize that she is more empowered than she thinks. She does have the help and support of family and friends, but she also puts a lot of importance on their opinions. Sydnee is definitely one of those characters who needed to get out of their own way. Most of the issues that were faced were given more importance by Sydnee than they deserved. I love to have heroines who have to overcome personal insecurities and challenges, but it was almost as if Sydnee didn't want to find happiness for herself. Being hesitant and cautious when entering into a relationship that will have unique challenges is one thing, but self sabotage is trying to witness.
Quinn on the other hand, was much more likable from beginning to end. There were times where I would not have blamed him if he had just walked away from Sydnee all together. Quinn is younger by about eight years than Sydnee, but exhibited much more self confidence and willingness to face adversities. I hate to say it, but Quinn's dedication to winning Sydnee was on the verge of being a wasted effort.
With all of that being said, I did empathize with Sydnee. Being left by a man that you loved and had planned to grow old with is devastating. Especially when you are also left to raise two small children without their father. Not rooting whole heartedly for Sydnee makes me feel a little like the Wicked Witch; but I really wanted her to get a grip, woman up, and grab her piece of young, hot, virile happiness.
I enjoyed Stone's writing style so I will be checking out more from her in the future. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that future heroines have a little more chutzpah!
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
This story was so emotionally riveting, it breaks your heart and then it comes back together bigger and full of unconditional love. Sydnee Garrett single mom of twins and divorced, raising her two five year old twins with the help of friends and her former in-laws. Quinn Masters single man, trainer who wants to work in the NFL meets Sydnee one evening at his uncle's Christmas lot while she went shopping for a tree. One chance moment, following her home to deliver her tree and help set it up starts a beautiful but sometimes reluctant courtship between these two people.
Sydnee Garrett was a woman so emotionally bruised but trying to keep it together for the sake of her twins, meets a man Quinn Masters who is so full of life that she can't believe he would actually be interested in her. And he is his pursuit of her and courtship is one for the ages and although Sydnee tries to put up road blocks with the age difference, color difference, her children and her emotional baggage, it has not deterred Quinn one bit. In fact it has only made him even more determined to show her how life can truly be when a Man Loves a Woman. Their story and fight to be together had me laughing, in tears, ready to fight others who tried to oppose them and at times me wanting to shake sense into Sydnee. What I loved about Quinn was he was a man who knew what he wanted and who he wanted. He told Sydnee he is not into playing games, you will always know what he is thinking and being open to her. He loved her children unconditionally and they loved him. Her ex-husband is a dead beat that only wanted to live the high life without children in it and run around with his mistress. Her mother I wanted to slap fire clean out of her a&* because she was a meddlesome bitter woman. Her friend I wanted to punch in the face because she was so full of airs it was just disgusting.
And with all of that love prevailed for Sydnee and Quinn, they had their ups, downs, ups, downs and then ups again. In the end they made it and they became the family Quinn wanted for them to be and I cried tears of joy. The Christmas Tree Guy is an amazing story and the author Railyn Stone did a magnificent job in writing it and I know for a fact this will not be my last book by her.
Well Until My Next Review Ciao Bellas and Happy New Year!
When I first started reading The Christmas Tree Guy, I really loved the holiday theme and I was hoping it would carry through the entire novel. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Only the first few chapters take place around the holidays and then the rest of the novel takes us through a year of Sydnee and Quinn's on-again, off-again relationship. At least the holiday aspect returns towards the end of the novel.
So what's the novel about? Sydney and her twin boys, Travis and Charlie, are at a Christmas tree lot in Louisville when they meet Quinn, the very attractive "Christmas Tree Guy" who offer to deliver their tree to them, even though the lot doesn't do deliveries. There's an instant attraction between Quinn and Sydnee, but she resists it for a number of reasons. He asks her out, she turns him down. They meet again, he asks her out again, she says no at first but then decides to go. From the very beginning, Quinn is pretty persistent in his pursuit of Sydney, despite her reservations. She is worried about the 8-year age difference and also their difference in skin color and how others would react to them being together. Eventually though they begin dating and both seem quite happy until other people begin getting involved.
Throughout the novel, Sydney & Quinn experience problems due to misunderstandings and miscommunication, trust issues and family dynamics. But the biggest hindrance to their being together is Sydnee herself. Though she knows her issues are what is causing problems in their relationship, she seem unable to overcome them. Her trust issues, her worrying incessantly about what other people will think about their age and race differences and her constant need for her mother's approval were infuriating by the end of the novel. There were times when I wondered *why* Quinn was even putting up with Sydnee--he had the patience of a saint.
I'm giving the story 3 stars instead of 4 because of Sydnee. At times I found her a difficult character to empathize with--especially since she is in her thirties and she was still relying so heavily on her mother for a sense of her own identity. I also got tired of how she kept using race as a way to hold Quinn at a distance when it was obvious he was serious about their relationship. What I liked about the novel was the portrayal of her relationship with her supportive in-laws, the pace in which she and Quinn got to know one another and her relationship with her sons.
Wow! Absolutely loved it! Sydnee Garrett is so hung up on what other people think about how she lives her life, that she is about to decimate a great relationship with a really hot, hard-working, and deep-loving guy! So what if he's 8 years younger than Sydnee? So what if he's really, really, really light-skinned (white)? Quinn treats Sydnee and her 5 year old twin boys with the utmost respect. He's also faithful, reliable and loads of fun. The total opposite of her lying, cheating ex-husband, Matt. So will Quinn be able to convince Sydnee to take a chance on love, no matter what other people may say?
12/5/2021 Reread this awesome holiday story, today, because it always makes me smile!
What a useless weak willed spineless heroine. Quinn should have never delivered that Christmas tree. Sydney had no backbone was unsupportive of Quinn and simply I hated her.it took me two weeks to read this book because that's how much I hated her. Poor Quinn even though the book is over he is tied to that wet noodle forever.
The story of Sydnee & Quinn was a very gripping story of one woman's struggle to stand up for herself, take a hold of her own life and to find the courage to face her worst fear, taking a chance on love. From the beginning, Sydnee faced two huge issues: an interracial relationship and an older woman with a younger man. She finally gives into the strong attraction and while it's private and hidden, there is great joy and love flourishes. But too soon, outsiders intrude with their prejudices, judgments, condemnations and accusations. It was frustrating to watch her wilt and fade against confrontations. Then, Quinn & Sydnee come to stand at a crossroad and their relationship is on the line. As much as I wanted to shake some sense into her, I enjoyed reading how it all played out. Five Stars.

Another great read by Railyn Stone. This story is breathtaking and of course is set around Christmas and Christmas trees as the title tells you. It is very intriguing and will catch your interest right from the start. You will not only want to laugh, but there are parts that will make you angry and will bring tears to your eyes. Could you ever imagine being a cougar? A single older black woman that as been emotionally abused and in the sights of a younger white man that is more grown up than you would think. Age is just a number once you are older and mixed raced couples are growing more and more. Will she keep fighting their attraction or will she follow her heart?
~~~~~~~~~~Lillian's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
What I loved about the book is that you can find happiness no matter what barriers you think there are. I was taken on a lovely journey of finding love with the one person that sees you no matter what color or age you are. Syndee is a mom to a set of boys and her husband just decided that he no longer want them to be family. It has been a long hard road for Syndee and it is Christmas time and it really hits her hard at this time of year. The boys want to Christmas so they go to pick a fresh tree but the twins can't agree on which one that is until a young man helps them. Quinn ever offers to deliver the tree as he so wants to get to know her. Syndee isn't ready for any relationship but Quinn won't give up he wants her to give him a chance. She likes Quinn but there are so many issues, he is much young and he is white. They don't have a problem with it but others do and it almost destroys them. Can they really make it work Quinn still has to meet the boy Travis & Charlie and this will be the deal breaker for her.
There are people that will never accept them as a couple as there is still so much racism out there, where does it leave them? Her ex husband has come back on the scene and he will do everything to separate them and he wants to play happy families. Syndee is been pulled in two direction one by her ex and by Quinn. But Quinn has been lying to her as he has received this amazing job offer and hasn't told her. She is hurt and angry but she knows that she can't stop him as this is his dream and she doesn't want him to blame her for giving it up.
Can they work it out or is it best this way?
A great story nice easy pace, loved that we got to know the characters so well. We still see so much racism today and that is so sad and it doesn't matter what color we are, we are all the same. This book leads us a great journey of discovery and that love has no boundaries. Would be happy to recommend to my friends. I received a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. LOVED IT!!!
~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
This book is about a Sydnee who is a single mother of twins. While out shopping for a Christmas Tree she meets Quinn who is also a personal trainer. She is a little older than him and she is not sure how a relationship would work with the age difference. Also how would her boys react to having a man around. Can Quinn convince Sydnee that age doesn't matter and that you can find love at any age? This was a cute story that was written to get you involved with the characters.
Thoughts: The Christmas Tree Guy was interesting on a number of different levels. If you're looking for nothing more than a simple, easy, light-hearted, holiday read, this isn't quite what you are looking for. That's not to say it was not an enjoyable read...I enjoyed the characters and the story - but it is far from light hearted. In fact, it takes on quite a bit of a serious element for the holiday season - but it is something that is dealt with everyday in our society - interracial relationships. Sydnee is a single mother, raising twin boys on her own, who meets a man who is not only white, but also 8 years younger than her. These are definitely challenges to a relationship, even though she is extremely attracted to him. Not only does she have her own misgivings about a relationship with him, but she has to deal with how others in her life feel about interracial relationships - and finds out that she may not know those as close to her as well as she thought.
This was a bit of a refreshing read in a way. Frankly, I have never seen interracial relationships handled quite so candidly in a book before - or so honestly. I've read them, but for the most part they usually read just like a stereotypical "normal" romance, and to be honest you forget that your even dealing with an interracial couple. You don't get the hard stuff, the struggles, and the people who aren't always accepting of people who are different than themselves. This book was sometimes excruciating in its realness. It wasn't always easy to read.
I felt that Quinn was almost too perfect to be real at times, however....LOL So perfect with kids, doesn't care that she's a single mom, an infinite amount of patience dealing not only with jerk ex-husbands but also a crazy mom with extreme prejudice issues that are insulting him to his face with ease? Sydnee, however, could be a bit annoying and whiny at times, which could be understand though given the circumstances she's going through in her life and the new pressures and discriminations she's dealing with (not everyone handles that sort of stuff well). But overall? An excellent book, that is quite a refreshing dose of reality in this genre yet still maintains its romantic aura.
Sydnee was a divorced single mom of two twin boys, she had a lot on her plate and she was definitely a busy women. Picking out a Christmas Tree shouldn't be too hard but when they got their tree she ended up with something she didn't bargain for but she didn't want to give back.
I enjoyed reading this sweet story. The author brought forward a touchy subject that really shouldn't be a problem. Interracial dating! It doesn't matter if your pink, red, black or white a person is a person and you both bleed red blood. This was a very well put together story and I enjoyed reading it.
Sydnee was a woman scorned by her dead beat ex-husband. She had her priorities and that was for her two precious boys. Then in walks Quinn, a young handsome Christmas Tree delivery boy that delivered more than a tree that night, he put a spark in her eye. But I did say young about 8 years younger than her oh and he's white and she's black. That is too many variables for one single mother to deal with.
Sydnee and Quinn had magic together it was too bad they had such opposition that was tearing them apart. People were against them because of his age and color, poor Quinn he had so much going for him but also so much against him. When push comes to shove does Sydnee cave under the pressure placed on her by her family and push him away? Give him a chance to live life or be bogged down with a ready made family?
Sydnee Garrett is a single mom of twin 5 year old boys, Travis and Charlie. She is devoted completely to her boys after her ex-husband leaving her for another woman 2 years ago and not being in the boys lives now. Little does she know how much shopping for a Christmas Tree will change her life.
Quinn Masters is helping his uncle out on his tree farm when he meets Sydnee and is instantly attracted to her. He helps her bring the tree to her house when he discovers there is no husband to help her out.
Sydnee has major reservations about Quinn as he is younger than her and white. While race isn't that important to her she can't help but feel uncomfortable when they are out. Yet Quinn treats her and her boys so well.
Can Sydnee get past her reservations and the opinions of her family and friends about Quinn and find happiness or will it prevent her from moving on with her life?
As a single mom I totally understood the hesitations that Sydnee felt as you really have to be careful when children are involved. I loved the character of Quinn and how he really had his stuff together!
This book made me so frustrated. I understand the hesitation of going into a new relationship after a messy divorce and especially having children, but I feel that Sydnee could've fought for her relationship with Quinn so much harder than she did. I also understand that age difference and racial differences play a big role in relationships, but it felt that Sydnee wore that on her shoulder, and was ready to accuse Quinn of one or the other every time something threatened their relationship. Otherwise, Sydnee was a great mom. Quinn was a super great guy, especially the way he took to Sydnee's boys. He even seemed more mature than the older Sydnee. I also liked Sydnee's bff a lot. You can't help but dislike Max and Carroll.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I am reviewing for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
This was a really good story. You will laugh, cry and smile. This book pulled at my heart...from people not excepting of a interracial relationship to her friends not except that he was good to her and her twins.
Sydney is a divorced, single mom of twin boys. She is doing everything she can to make a strong loving home for the boys. She meets Quinn at his family Christmas tree lot.
Quinn is a personal trainer who takes doesn't take NO for an answer. He isn't fazed that their is 8 year age difference or by race.
Can they make it or will family and friends win out?
Railyn makes her characters come to life and makes the storyline as real as you can. I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
You never know who you are going to meet when you go out. The guy at the Christmas Tree lot might not just be the Christmas Tree Guy either. Quinn is a personal trainer with a well off family doing a favor for an Uncle. He never thought that he would see a tree to the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.
Sydnee is a divorces mom of 5 year old twin boys. Their father basically abandoned them for someone younger. She just never thought of getting together with a younger man, but for some reason fate just keeps bringing Quinn and her together.
This book deals with many issues including dating a younger man and racism. Mind you racism is color blind, anyone can be racist. That being said, the book is cute, entertaining, and a good book to read during the holiday season.
I really enjoyed this Hot Holiday story...Sydnee is the divorced mother of 5 year old twin boys. They go to the Christmas Tree lot to purchase a tree, Quinn works there and the two are instantly attracted to each other. He insists on following her home with the insistence of her boys to set up the tree. Quinn would like to get to know her better, but she resists because Quinn is 8 yrs her junior and white, but the attraction is still there. This book was a nice sexy read, which included some major factions trying to sabotage the relationship. Loved It. Great first book by Ms. Stone, looking forward to her next books.
I really like this book. So many things going on but well done. It started out with age, race a jerk ex-husband and lastly a metaling no life of her own mother. It seems like a lot but that was the beauty of this book. The author was patient and well detailed. I can't find any other books on this author. If this was the first WOW good job. Can't wait for the next one. Also Team Quinn!
My only true complaint is why did you (Railyn) make Sydney so look whiney? And so insecure? I understand having some after all she has been through. But you made her almost pathetic. I was tempted to stop reading because of it.
This was about a single mother with two small children. Who finds herself wanting to get involved with a younger man. Who happens to work at a Christmas Tree place and is a personal trainer.
Such a cute story! A woman who is raising twin boys on her own! meets a man while picking up her Christmas tree! This was a great story of self-discovery and unconditional love.
It was a good story but man it was hard to deal with Sydnee and her insecurities for 336 pages. I was so glad when she decided to do what was best for her.
Sydnee found more than just the perfect Christmas Tree for her son's, she found Quinn, a sweet man, with a heart of gold. Can she put the opinions of others aside, and reach for the magical love they share? Can she open her heart to let Quinn into hers and the boy's lives?
Christmas is always one of my most favourite times of the year and I do love festive stories. I bought The Christmas Tree Guy by Railyn Stone after seeing a teaser on Instagram and checking out the blurb and the rest as they say, is history.
I truly did enjoy this story, the writing was excellent, Railyn Stone kept me captivated and intrigued from the very start. Quinn and Sydnee are a perfect match, they brought out the best in each other.
I soon fell in love with Quinn's character, he was refreshing, sweet, caring, thoughtful, loyal, optimistic, and he was always looking out for the good in everything.
Sydnee for me was equal amounts loveable, and, frustrating. She was a wonderful mother and considering her predicament she was trying hard to have an optimistic outlook on life. However, on more than one occasion I wanted to crawl into my kindle and ask her to just stop over thinking everything, to breath, to live and to see what was directly in front of her. Although I understand the subject in question is one that holds a lot of hostility and she did have a lot to consider, I felt her over thinking at times took over the story a little too much. This is my personal opinion and in no way, reflects on the authors writing.
This story holds an array of characters, some I loved and some that were simply nasty human beings, who put happiness second, to anything else.
This story was angsty, fun, romantic and suspenseful. I'm looking forward to checking out more of Railyn Stone's stories. If you love these genres along with added festivities you should give, The Christmas Tree Guy by Railyn Stone a try.
Both Quinn and Sydnee had an instant attraction to each other when she and her twin boys went to get a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. Quinn knew what he wanted the minute he saw Sydnee and was persistent in his pursuit of her. She was very hesitant due to her being a divorcee with two boys, plus she was older than Quinn by eight years. Plus there was the race thing. But Sydnee finally gave in and found herself falling for Quinn and so were Charlie and Travis, her twin boys. Just when things were going well for them, all hell broke loose. Sydney and Quinn had folks from everywhere messing with their relationship. Sydney always needed her mother's approval, but she couldn't do anything to please her. That was a hot button of contention for her. When Quinn had a life-changing opportunity to make a decision on, he didn't hesitate. It was Sydnee who was scared to live. Even though they loved each other, they failed to tell each other everything that was going on with them.
This story started off kind of slow and boring but I hung in there and I'm glad I did. This story was heartbreaking on how Sydnee had to deal with friends and family sticking their opinions in Sydnee and Quinn's relationship. Her mother was a piece of work, and so was Sydnee's ex Matt. It was great to read that Sydnee finally grew a backbone and let her have it. I was cheering for her and my heart broke for Quinn when Sydnee had to let him go, but she finally came to her senses in the end. This story shows how real and honest communication, especially in a relationship like Quinn and Sydnee's is key to a successful one.
Though this book is called The Christmas Tree Guy, it's really our heroine Sydnee's story. So many people are judging her for being a divorced mother and for dating a man who's both younger and white, and we see her finding the confidence in herself to choose happiness.
This book was so cute even as it had some angst and themes of family disagreements, divorce, and disapproval of interracial relationships. I especially loved the meet-cute (where the title comes from) and the epic finale.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Although the title sounds like this is a holiday romance, it doesn’t have much to do with the holiday beyond the lead characters’ initial meeting. It is a whirlwind romance for any time of the year.
Sydnee Garrett divorced mom of twins is raising her five-year-old twins with the help of friends and the boys’ paternal grandparents. Quinn Masters is 26 and single. He’s a personal trainer who wants to work in the NFL. They meet one evening at his uncle’s Christmas tree lot. A chance meeting and a lot of persistence lead to a tumultuous courtship.
The writing is technically good, and the premise of the story is solid, however, I had a hard time getting into the story. I could understand and accept Sydnee’s insecurities and reservations about the relationship, however, I did not buy Quinn’s persistence given his age and experiences. Sydnee’s conversation was believable, but Quinn’s came off as too mature and stilted to me. I did appreciate the candid presentation of the biases Sydnee’s family held about Quinn and their relationship. I had a hard time reconciling Sydnee initially claiming that she was close to her mom and she valued her opinion, but then not having a clue how strongly her mother would feel about the interracial relationship. I got whiplash with Sydnee’s dramatic changes in direction and loyalties through the second half of the book.
The secondary characters were well done. Max is the ex-husband you can’t help but hate. Sydnee’s friend, Mina, and her mother, Carrol, reminded me of Krystle and Alexis from the 1980’s television show, Dynasty—social climbing, controlling and acrimonious. They’re all wickedly good antagonists in the story. Sydnee’s sons, Travis and Charlie, along with Quinn’s family, balance out the protagonists.
The Christmas Tree Guy is Railyn Stone’s debut novel and I’m sure she has more stories in her.

With this book Railyn writes a beautiful love story!! One with a rough journey but with the most simplest of messages....,with love, nothing is impossible!! I love that she chooses age and race as Quinn and Sydnee's "stress factors"..because they are so relevant I today's society. I say BRAVO Railyn for writing such a POWERFUL and beautiful love story!! All I can say is.... there's,just GOT to be a sequel to this book!!! This story is a must read!!!
Sweet and VERY CLEAN story of Sydnee, divorced mother of twins, who meets a younger guy, Quinn, while buying a Christmas tree. Quinn is smitten, but Sydnee has A WHOLE LOTTA issues with the budding romance. "He's white, he's younger, what will people think?" Throw in a horribly controlling mother and a deadbeat dad of an ex, you have a story with many facets that many can relate to.
