3.5 stars One of WG’s angstiest books
Angsty? Oh yeah… Toxic? Yuuuuup… Drama-filled? check… and I couldn’t put it down 😅… even though I wanted more.
Scarlett (18) and Easton (18) share a secret… they’ve been into each other for a while, but… Easton’s dating Scarlett’s twin sister 😬 and everyone knows it 😬. Easton has social media/contracts with Scarlett’s sister Tully, and it’s getting harder and harder to break up with her. Scarlett’s getting tired of the whole situation. She wants Easton but she can’t handle the jealousy she feels every time her sister’s with Easton. So she tries dating, tries kissing other guys, but no one makes her feel anything remotely close to what she feels for Easton.
Easton hates that he met Tully first. When they met, they made TikTok’s that went viral. Now, he’s stuck with her and her superficial persona because of their fame and various contracts/sponsors, but he only wants Scarlett. With her feisty mouth and attitude, he can’t help but wish he had met her first.
Even when they try to stay away from each other, they can’t help it 😬. All of this is a recipe for disaster 😅…
What I liked/loved: possible spoilers
—the ansgt 😱. There’s a lot of it 😅; from beginning to the end, so much happens. The premise alone lets us know there’ll be angst, add in a bunch of other elements, and it’s angst-central
—the 🔥. Oh LAWD. This is STEAAAAMY😮💨. Before the book begins, Scarlett and Easton had only kissed, but as their relationship progresses, it gets 🥵. The first kiss we see happens around 14%, and 🔥 situations until they go all the way by 46% ish 😉. And it’s a…

—how jealous Easton gets 😈. I love me some OMD, and Scarlett’s not gonna stop living life if Easton doesn’t get his ish together 💅. I luuuurve the JP scenes 😈
—I felt bad for Easton with how much his hands are tied 😬. He’s a likable character with the type of homelife he has 😏
—Scarlett leaving to get a breather 👏🏻 I needed some space too
—the letter-writing and questions 😅. I found myself figuring out answers too 😅.
—the lies, not once, but twice 😅. I like me some twists… and I was definitely surprised 😱
What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—I was trusting in Easton’s word until Tully says she had her mouth on him first 😐. I wish we knew if she was lying 😐 ETA it seems (based on a comment down below) that it probably DID happen… 😒
—the rushed ending 😐. Soooooo much happens at the end… too many things, and I was left with so many questions of things we didn’t get much resolution to 😏. With all the ansgt in the book, I wanted more detailing all that happens at the end
—with how obsessed Easton is with Scarlett, I don’t know why he didn’t try getting out of the contracts he had with Tully sooner 😐. Yes, he had debt because of his alcoholic dad to take care of, but… ugh… I wish he had figured out something sooner 😐
—Scarlett’s musical side. Whatever happens to it? She performs and even gets the opportunity to go to London, which she takes, but after she comes back, we don’t see this anymore 🤷🏻♀️. Not in the years they’re separated, not in the epilogue, no where else 😐. I really wish we had more of this. This was Scarlett’s talent and it just get thrown to the wind 😏
—the broken/repaired sister relationship. So, Scarlett and Tully become the best of friends by the end, but I really wish we had seen this developed better. We’re spent disliking Tully most of the book, and then it all gets fixed? I wish we had seen this 😏
—their mom 😑. I didn’t like their mom 😬 not only because she seemed pretty selfish, but also because she didn’t notice how neglectful she was. Sigh. And don’t get me started on their dad… the cheater 😑
—more on the parents ^^

I was really confused as to how to read this book. The writing was choppy/juvenile, plus the more I read, the more ridiculous it got and yet, I couldn’t put it down. The angst in this one was really good. The ending felt a lot rushed with a very ridiculous plot twist 🤦🏾♀️
But having said all that, this book kept my attention and me highly entertained and i would probably read it again someday soonish.

Opinion Breakdown
The Good: The premise, the potential, and the author's voice.
The Not-So-Good: The fact that their secret relationship was already established and going on when the story starts. Why not have that on page? I know it was hinted as to why the H sought out the h, but it was never fully explained. With a taboo type relationship like this, for me at least, there better be a dang good reason and I better feel the need for you to be together for me to be a fan. That's part of why I love these types of taboo reads usually, because it taps into the feels in the angsty goodness way!
The Bad: The ending. The last 1/4ish really. It was super rushed and felt...meh. It was a super tidy with a pretty bow on top type of ending, which if you follow me, you know is one of my pet peeves!
Overall: This was alright. It wasn't until I was writing this review that I realized that I really did struggle with it even though I read it in pretty much one sitting. Obviously, that says something about the author, especially because I have liked her works in the past. Sadly, there was just too much that didn't work for me. I didn't like the mcs all that much, I didn't like that the relationship was super shallow and already established when the book started, I felt like the sexy times felt detached and even repetitive, I didn't like how they never were an actual couple on page, and I really didn't like the fast-forward super quick "resolution" in the end.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Scarlet and Easton's story. Easton and Scarlet are secretly seeing each other while Easton is trapped in a relationship with her twin sister, Tully, because they went viral and are considered an influencer couple. Scarlet's mom has always used her and her sister for followers, so the fact that Tully has put them in this situation is par for the course for Scarlet. There is a good bit of sneaking around, some angst, some sexy times, and some big secrets revealed...and they get a HFN ending.
Point Of View (POV): This mainly alternated between Scarlet and Easton's POV with some of Tully's.
Overall Pace of Story: Good until the rushed ending, but I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.
Instalove: No, but they already have strong feelings when this story started.
H (Hero) rating: 3 stars. Easton. He was okay. I didn't like the way that he got upset with the h for getting upset about their situation. I felt like it was kind of manipulative.
h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Scarlet. She was just okay too. I didn't like the way that she let her family walk all over her and she didn't demand more from the H.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed for me but I think other readers claimed they got emotional from this.
Push/Pull: Yes
Heat level: Alright. They have some tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Don't know what the "I wish I would've told you" were all about. They were pretty funny sometimes.
Lots of potential in this story but there was too loose writing of too many characters and they didn't necessarily fit the book. Friend Jessica?
Heck, I didn't think she needed to go to London, really? And her special ability on violin could have been used in epilogue or something...because otherwise it was still cool to be in a college marching band and not use the special talent at all in the story???
I didn't think Tully would go to Alabama? Why, when decided?
It wrapped up too quickly. I did like the HEA.

Wow! This book is ANGSTY!

Well I overlooked this author's warning and went ahead and read the synopsis anyway and I'm glad that I did. I knew that I was in for some forbidden drama, angst and some funny moments.
The one thing that Scarlett truly wants to call her own is the only thing she can't have. Having to live your day to day life in a form of secrecy is not easy and the more time that passes, only gets harder for Scarlett. But how do you give in to the one thing that you know is going to hurt someone else?
I enjoyed the majority of this book but I also had some issues with it as well. I needed the author to go deeper into a few things because it made no sense to me why a certain character would say what they hate the most, ends up doing the exact same thing.
I also felt like the ending was extremely rushed and everything was quickly wrapped in a bow. I wanted to see some groveling and the aftermath of those actions and I never got that. This was not a bad read at all but I think that it could've been better.

The way I flew through this needs to be studied! This was fast-paced, full of drama and angst, and I probably enjoyed it more than I should have. 👀
There was so much I enjoyed in this, including the drama, angst, toxicity, jealousy, and even the secrecy.😭 Scarlett and Easton were so cute; I enjoyed their toxic banter, even when it became super angsty. And their little hypothetical question inside joke… loved!
While I did enjoy this for the most part, I wanted more.😅 They went through so much to be together, just for the end to feel a little meh. Also, the conflict between Scarlett and Easton in the end was resolved way too quickly in my opinion; I wanted one last sprinkle of drama. But I digress, I was promised toxic, angsty, drama, and it was delivered. 🤭

Al parecer nos dan a entender que hay una infidelidad cosa que yo odio, pero quería leer algo de drama y hatear por lo que decidí continuar.
Ella está enamorada del novio de su hermana gemela, dicho novio se cuela por su ventana todas las noches y mantienen una relación clandestina y muy prohibida.

Es una historia preciosa, tierna y llena de detalles blanditos. Y, aunque a la autora no le gusta ahondar en los sentimientos de sus personajes (nunca se explaya en las descripciones de lo que sienten y piensan), la he devorado en unas cuantas horas.
Easton se ha ganado mi corazón. A Scarlett, en cambio, me ha costado más aceptarla. Tal vez porque ese doble juego que se traía no me ha terminado de convencer (lo sé, es hipócrita no pensar igual de él, pero es lo que hay).
En general, es un libro que se lee rápido, ligero y fácil. Ideal para "usarlo" de puente entre libros más densos o para desconectar de la realidad sin esfuerzo alguno.

Well at least it was interesting. Of course there is not a lot of honesty here, and there’s a lot of cheating and triggers. The heroine is ow, the hero is dating her identical twin. So be prepared. He met the twin first but when he met the heroine he fell hard for her. Sadly they already became a popular couple on tic toc or something like, and they had signed a lot of contracts with sponsor. So both him and the heroine decide to keep up the thing until they go to college. The hero doesn’t have sex with the twin, only with the heroine. It’s unclear if in the beginning he and the twin had some kind of intimacy, but now they are only together for the sponsor. The heroines twin is spoiled, shallow and only cares for herself and her popularity. The hero never loved her and at a certain point he also tells her they are only together for the sponsor. The girl is not even that much bothered. There’s a lot of angst and the end was quite bizarre. I won’t spoil but I found it very peculiar. Of course I didn’t like the cheating, it was dishonest and vile, both to the twin, both to the followers that believed their love story. But it gives a good view on what is behind those high viewed profiles on the social medias that everyone seem to believe. There’s no truth in them, only a glorified fiction. And in the end , it’s all about money. So I appreciated the social pov very much.

This book was complete TORTURE! I was SO NERVOUS whenever Easton was with Scarlett... the forbidden aspect so delicious yet SO WRONG. But I couldn't help but love it (and them!) completely. I didn't love Tully... I didn't love her obsession with what things were supposed to look like or doing things for likes and views. Don't even get me started on the mother! UGH!
Things took a turn toward the unexpected and I was literally DYING INSIDE! And when we finally get to the end and I learn "what she should've told him", I was FLOORED.
I'm sorry for being vague... basically do what the blurb tells you and go in blind. I love Whitney G books... always so sexy, so emotional, so beautiful and unputdownable. You will be obsessed with this book I promise!

I really don't know what this was. Like it was fine up until that terrible mess towards the end. It was literally a bunch of nonsense that lead to nothing. I would've preferred the story of how Scarlet & Easton ended up in love in the first place. This book had a bunch of ideas and potential but the way it was thrown together didn't work out too great.

What I Liked:
🔥 From the very start, this book had me hooked. The burning question of "what will happen to Easton and Scarlett?" kept me turning the pages, and I read it in a single sitting. It's perfect if you're in the mood for a gripping, intense story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
💔 The book's format was unique and engaging. I appreciated the use of questions and the "I wish I would've told you" letters from Scarlett as epigraphs in her chapters. It added an intriguing layer to the narrative.
What I Wasn't On Board With:

A non-spoilery example would be the fuss about Scarlett's extraordinary violin talent which didn't seem to play a significant role in the story's resolution. I wished for a more thorough exploration of certain plot elements, as they felt overlooked in the end.

I didn't think I would like this as much as I did.
I HATE love triangles/cheating but this wasn't at all what I thought it would be. It was actually pretty sweet. Yes I didn't agree with the MC's carrying on behind the sister's back but I'm ashamed to say I still loved it anyway 🙈

Como hice corajes con el protagonista 🫠 también con las hermanas pero más con él. Las desiciones que toman son bastante malas porque son adolescentes pero al final todo sé arregla de la mejor manera. Aún así no me encantó.

I got the ARC for this book the day before it was released, but I couldn’t get to it until several days later. As soon as I could, I jumped on it, but with caution. I’ve said this a bunch of times, but in my experience, Whitney doesn’t do well with her shortish stories and when I read the page count, I got a little worried. Well, she didn’t do half bad this time LOL
I can’t say that every single plot-point she threw at us in this story was as fleshed out as I’d hoped it would be, but despite a few of those, this story was quite captivating and exciting. I never thought I’d say that about a story with teenagers, but here we are. Yes, there are some circumstances here and there that really had no point because they had zero impact on the storyline, but they weren’t pointless because they meant something to the leads. That’s all I’m saying on this because I really don’t want to give the story away.
Some of you are going to see my rating and immediately think this was a mediocre read for me, but that isn’t the case. I really liked this story and I think that Whitney did a pretty good job of executing it, however, she rushed the ending faster than a moth to a flame and that was a shame because they (all three of them) deserved a bigger ending than what they got. Too much happened to build the story to just abruptly fix everything, basically off the page. UGH, that made me #twitchy LOL
So yeah, I enjoyed this story, but it would have been a heck of a lot more impactful had she just taken a little more time and had the reader experience the ”fixing” of it all. *shrug*

Scarlett and her identical twin sister Tully don't get along. Tully is the head cheerleader and homecoming queen, while Scarlett is a goth band geek. Tully is famous because she and her boyfriend Easton Rush make viral videos together that get millions of views. Due to this they get sponsorship deals that pay a lot of money and both support their families. Their relationship is very much for publicity sake because Easton is in love with Scarlett. He goes to her room every night and the two have been having a secret relationship since they worked on a class project together.
Scarlett gets angry when Easton has to touch her sister or spend time with her playing the role as the perfect boyfriend. Easton gets angry when other guys hit on Scarlett and she wastes her time going on dates with guys that are never going to measure up to him. Their relationship is extremely complicated and Scarlett decides to escape to London to get space from him but he tells her that her being across the ocean won't stop what they have together.
When Scarlett goes back and attends college with Easton who is the star quarterback destined for the NFL they decide to tell Tully the truth. When they do there is a terrible car accident and both twins are lucky to be alive. Enraged Easton attacks the kid who was driving drunk and put them in the hospital and almost murders him. He goes to prison and is writing to Tully who tells him to move on and that though Scarlett will love him always he needs to let her go.
Almost two years later he is pardoned and gets out of prison discovering that it was Scarlett not Tully who was in worst condition when they were in the accident and that Scarlett was writing him letters not Tully. Worst though is that Scarlett has a baby with his eyes that she never told him about.
This book was good and had a lot going on in the last 100 pages. I was rooting for Scarlett and Easton the entire time but I also liked that Scarlett didn't just always succumb to Easton's charms and many times was angry and avoided him. I felt that just made him love her even more. I love Whitney G's books and this one also did not disappoint. The writing flowed quickly and I was unable to put it down at times. I'm glad the two of them got a happy ending but I wish there had been a scene where Easton was with his daughter.

In New Adult Romance we are introduced to Easton and Scarlett, who share a deep connection. Their understanding of each other sets them apart, but there's a significant obstacle—Easton is already in a relationship. The story primarily unfolds from Easton and Scarlett's points of view.
What sets this book apart is its unpredictability which is refreshing. The unconventional relationship and situation explored in the story may not be to everyone's taste, but for those who appreciate dark, twisted, and forbidden romances, it offers a unique reading experience.
I enjoyed that we got realistic teenagers who are content creators, providing an authentic and relatable backdrop for the story. The story is captivating and encompasses goofy, heart-wrenching, life-like moments.
