April Kennedy (Dead to Writes) is back. Over a year after her nightmare in Dead to Writes, her friend Stacy convinces her a road trip with friends is what she needs. With one wrong turn, the group winds up in Happytown, a place that is anything but. They are forced into a mysterious funhouse run by Uncle Monkey and his band of psycho clowns.
April hadn’t used her special ability since escaping her captors, but when she encounters the clowns of Happytown, she may have no choice. She soon learns that what lies within the Funhouse is the stuff of nightmares.
It was a total disappointment, didn't expect that from this 2nd part of April Almighty series...
It's all about Clown. While refilling fuel into the car Todd, Kim, Stacy and April forced to visit funhouse where dozens type of clowns waiting to invite them. The main theme of this short story is only thiss but nothing else. Though all the other elements were same. Gore, disturbing, graphic horror scene. The most irritating fact was April couldn't apply her power to those clowns at first but later she could! I mean hey, seriously? It's a joke I believe. Never mind with the joke but overall experience with this not good. I didn't like it the same way I liked the 1st part of this series. Complete disaster. Should have been put something to it...
Another great read from Mr Miller and true to form. Bloody, brutal and grotesque. Loved the storyline and how it followed with april. The clowns descriptions were on point and you could just see them in all there glory and how evil they looked from there descriptions. Then mixed with the brownies it was brilliant. A definite recommendation from me.
I've been really enjoying this series, it's fun, violent and gross all in one.
This book is the second in the April almighty series and follows April on a toad trip that turns bad. April and her friends encounter a traffic pile up and take a different direction to get to Dallas but instead of reaching their destination they end up in Happytown where they are forced to go through a twisted funhouse before they can leave.
Like the previous book this one contains plenty of gore and violence only this time with a group of clowns, through out the story you get little back-stories of the main clown characters. My favourite was probably Creampuff, a huge monster of a clown who can change his painted expression at will and his name is Creampuff...
Creampuff...
I enjoyed this one as much as the first and believe you can't really compare the two, yes they both have similar elements such as dark humour and horror but both stories are very different from each other. I look forward to the third book in the series.
The concept of the clowns was really something unique and I would have loved to have it elaborated upon but Tim Miller doesn't serve that kind of fare. With him it's gore and mayhem. This one didn't employ much of April's ability to telepathically jerk men off but it was enjoyable all the same. Sometimes, all I need is the image of a femme fatale in a gym bra and shorts going on the rampage with a chainsaw. 3.5 stars actually.
I rarely read book descriptions, so after reading "Dead To Writes", i was prepared for another story with basically the same premise. Which is fine. I'm always down for a fun redneck cannibal hillbilly torture book. However, what happens in the Funhouse is so completely absurd and unexpected... I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and i am about to start the third one in a moment.
Ugh, so disappointed! First book was great, thought this would be too. Didn't go anywhere, should have stuck with the first one. I've read quite a free of Tim Miller's books, all were great. This was a complete bust....
Excellent exciting and fast read! I'm not personally scared of clowns (yet anyway) but I can understand the fear, and this story only makes it more intense! And who doesn't love a bad ass girl? I know I do, and I'll continue in this April saga, YAY!
This is more like it. The first book attempted to take the torture and horror seriously. Then it added in April's...erm...superpower. And seriousness is clearly out the damn window. So, for a sequel, why not go ahead and own up to the campy, comedic nature?
Seems Tim Miller was on the same page and instead of trying to make a Hills Have Eyes/Texas Chain Saw Massacre style book full of tension and fear, he instead chooses to go with the only thing scarier than inbred redneck mongoloids. Clowns.
April finds herself, along with some friends, in Happytown. Not that she/they wanted to go there. Or knew that it existed. But here we are with clowns. Supernatural clowns. And April's out of practice with her superpower, making it hard (he he) for her to get away.
In a 180 from the first book, we are looking at a goofy, yet still gory and gross story. Think Killer Klowns from Outer Space meets Terrifier and you're probably pretty close with the bad guys. If you loved the first book and wanted something a little more "real", this will likely not go over well. But if you saw the humor in the initial book and wanted it to lean into that, I would suggest it. As always, though, start with book one. Don't worry, they are all short!
I loved the film Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Even Rotten Tomatoes gives it 71%. If you had dropped April Almighty into that film this story is what you might expect to read about (kind of? am I making any sense?) Its a fun read, gory (as you would expect from Tim), lots of action and plenty of gung-honess (if that's a word). To be honest I am slightly disappointed April didn't make more use of her "talent", and it's not as suspenseful as Dead To Writes, but that doesn't matter as April Almighty is a tough and cool heroin - and lets face it - anyone who says "I'm gonna fuck this shit up" before getting into a fight must be cool. In fact she needs her own Netflix series. Someone call Meghan Chadeayne and Netflix and make this happen.
This was a little too out there...the whole clown thing would've been ok if they weren't real clowns through and through! Just a bit too far fetched for me to get into. Although the whole idea of April's superpowers is completely ridiculous, that's fiction for you! At least there was a reason for it . There just was no reason given for these guys to be real clowns...
April is back. She finds herself with her friends in need of gas in Happytown. The residents all claim that before helping them, they must take the tour of the fun house. Excuse the pun, but this is where the REAL fun starts. I did enjoy this book, written with pure tongue in cheek, shamelessly brutal in places but an effortless thrilling ride
Book 2 in the series was also a good read. There is no ending as Book 3 is a continuation of the story, and I look forward to it. April is such a resolute and brave woman. I hope she makes it through book 3 (I think she does as there is a book 4 ;-) ).
