Listened to the audiobook!
As a true crime nerd, I really REALLY enjoyed this book! I really did!
It explains so much of what I am seeing at the school where I work. Why young kids just want quick cash and clothes, shoes and caps from very expensive brands. It’s weird and strange on so many levels how society has turned to this. All that is important is the surface, and you have to have it no matter what horrendous things you have to do to acquire it.
It’s really fucked up.
Mohageb goes through a case he worked on during his time as a cop investigating crime among kids and teens. Which leads him to a chat on the Signal app. A chat named Rusher, hence the name of the book.
In this app a 16 year old recruits kids between 13-15 to highly violent crime for a known criminal network. And this 16 year old kid is from a nice family with a good economy and a nice big house, 100% Swedish. Why does a kid like that turn to such violent crime?
So we get to follow Mohageb as he and his colleague work to figure out who more are involved in this chat, who the 16 year old works for… And above all, WHY such a kid turns to crime??? And so young?
I really did enjoy this! It’s not Mohageb that is reading the audiobook, but the reader did a great job! I’ve listened to interviews with Mohageb, and it’s a shame he didn’t do the reading himself, he has a great voice!
This book though, unlike Yoldas books, is very much geared towards adults that work with kids and have kids. It’s a warcry to get involved with your kids. Don’t put a phone in your kids hands without being involved, heavily involved, or they will be found by some extremely negative influences online…
