Creo en el cielo: Historias reales de la Biblia, la historia y hoy

Rate this book

True stories of those who have experienced the most wondrous place anyone could ever imagine.

In these challenging times, when life on earth is difficult for many people, there is a longing for heaven, not as an escape from our “momentary troubles” (2 Corinthians 4:17), but as a promise that there is an eternal home waiting for those who put their trust in God.

Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk have assembled and re-told some of history’s most dramatic stories about heaven and the people who have had a taste of this glorious place. Included are stories from the Bible, stories from history and present- day accounts, many presented for the very first time.

Cecil Murphy and Twila Belk have done an outstanding job of presenting the essence of Heaven in their book, I Believe in Heaven. This is one of the best books I have ever read about the subject of near death experiences and life after death.

The first part of the book is packed with a series of authenticated testimonies of people who have had experiences that took them to the life beyond this one, either heaven or hell. Many of the stories have similar elements, others chronicle unique observations and sensations. These various accounts encompass different beliefs and span many generations. Some of the stories speak to major changes in a person’s life after the experience.

Part II addresses frequently asked questions about Heaven. The answers are based on Biblical truth and not speculation.

This book is inspiring and brimming with the hope that a painless, joy-filled eternity in the presence of our Lord awaits. It urges the reader to pause and think about where he or she will spend eternity when his or her life journey is over without preaching, but a simple presentation of facts.

I recommend I Believe in Heaven to anyone who has lost a loved one, who fears death and what lies beyond, or who is curious about our future eternal home.

For anyone that enjoys reading stories that are Heaven-based, I Believe in Heaven by Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk, is the book for them.
This book is broken down into two sections, with subsections in each, of stories.
Stories and Testimonies of Heaven has stories that touch the heart including one about a coma patient, and one that nearly died in surgery.
Next is Questions About Heaven where they answer questions about the Bible’s definition, what we will do and aftereffects of Near-death experiences.
Each section is so well-written that I did not necessarily want then to end.
Thank you for this book.

This author, who cowrote 90 Minutes in Heaven with Don Piper, shares here tons of afterlife visions from the Bible, history, philosophy, and contemporary writers. It's a good reference book, but most of the stories aren't detailed or poignant. If you're looking to add to your repertoire, I recommend it, but for immersion purposes, there are better collections.

Pages: 294; Publication Date: 2013; Not part of my collection.

A wonderful read with accounts of near-death experiences dating from very modern all the way back to medieval times. Many of the stories are tear-jerking. Most are similar to one another, in meeting deceased loved ones, having a life review, wanting to stay, but knowing they have to come back.

There's also visions of a hellish place, and these people often change their lives when they come back. Nearly all do, however, as they suddenly realize 'what is important in life' and what's not.

The first half of this book is the telling of many near-death experiences as told by those who experienced them. The second half is an exploration of these experiences a discussion of “what heaven is like”, much of it is through Bible passages. It’s an okay book that I read during Lent through which I learned some about the topics and about myself. A little too tedious and repetitive.

Would you like to settle some questions in your mind, once and for all, about whether all this stuff the preachers say about heaven and hell and faith in God is true or relevant to you? What legacy would you choose to gift your loved ones with after your last breath is taken this side of heaven? Maybe you care for those who are terminally ill, or have loved ones who are preparing for their final earthly journey.
I Believe in Heaven is a well-written book that includes dozens of verified (where possible) accounts of men and women who had visions of heaven or hell. Others had been determined clinically dead or comatose for periods of time lasting minutes or months, those who had clear memories of visiting either heaven – or hell. The source of the accounts come from varied, from the Scriptures to people who were helping the person who experienced the event write out what they remember.
Through these near death experiences, this book brings hope to each of us who believe what the Bible writes about heaven. It also helps those who do not yet believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior to better understand what God, heaven, and hell are all about.
This is also true for the question and answer section in Part Two. Many questions included are those that I have had or that I’ve heard others discuss about heaven and about near death experiences. One of the things that I appreciate about the authors is that they do not give “feel good” answers that they think readers want to see – they stand on what is found in the pages of the Bible. Yes, there are questions that this reader would like to see “my way” answers for, but this book can help one come to understand the answers, or lack thereof, in the Bible. There are some questions for which the authors discuss two or more theories or beliefs held by various denominations or historical teachers, as well as what Scripture says. Some of the responses inspire awe to the reader, some bring hope or comfort, while others may help them find acceptance.
I Believe in Heaven has brought this reader renewed hope and peace. I would absolutely recommend this book for adults of any age, especially those who have questions about heaven – or hell – or those who are grieving the recent passing of a loved one, even those who are sitting on the fence about giving their life to the Lord. This reader believes this book is an essential read and re-read blessing for loved ones, clergy, and caregivers of the terminally ill to help them understand the phenomena that occurs with many in their final earthly journey and to help their loved one or patient with their unique needs in the journey. It is also, this reader believes, a book that encourages every believer in Jesus Christ to live out their faith with action as truly is far more than life on this earth.

Carry-On Bags Obsolete (A review of I Believe in Heaven by Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk)
Reviewer: Janice S. Garey
*****5 Stars

The book, I Believe in Heaven, by Cecil Murphey & Twila Belk, encourages people to take a look at some really critical moments that a portion of the earth's population have been privileged to experience. The majority who have such experiences end up with a new dimension to their faith and a new trust in a good afterlife. The number of similar types of encounters with death and heaven serve to validate the truth of heaven as revealed in the Bible. Those who are skeptical may have their minds changed through reading this book. Those who are believers will rejoice in the enhancement of their knowledge of the good things God has planned for His adopted children of faith.

I appreciated the stories researched from the past to show that this kind of experience has been going on through the ages. These days with so much evil taking place in the world, people need to have assurance that Heaven is a real place where they will one day reunite with loved ones. This book gives reason to celebrate the victory God had over death through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. If you are feeling down, read this book about going up! It will make you feel joyful and expectant of good things for eternity.

The book contains a section of questions commonly asked about heaven. The answers are thoughtful and true. Sometimes the answer is that the author doesn't know. That is okay. God knows and will reveal it to us if necessary in His timing. I had been wanting to read more about heaven for several years. This book was perfect for my needs and concerns.

This book would make a great gift for your church library, for families facing the death of a loved one (it happens to us all at sometime), and parts of the book would be appropriate to read to children who have questions in church settings when learning about heaven. This book is perfect for a time such as this when scary things are happening like the girls being kidnapped in Kenya. It is affordable for those who are grieving and can not pay the price of a therapist. I highly recommend this book.

I received this book at no cost from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review. I have given my honest opinion in this review.

Cecil Murphey tackles a subject that interests a lot of people. Life after death, the journey or last moments before death. Like me, most of us have heard stories of this type. Mr. Murphey tells individuals stories, he also tells of near death experiences from long ago, including the Bible and visions people had concerning Heaven. The individual stories are short, concise and clear. Some of them will have you smiling, some will leave tears in your eyes. This is the type of book you can put down, take with you, read a story when you only have a few minutes. I've read several at a time, two or three of them and then had to cook, etc. I found the book to be enjoyable. I feel like I've received another glimpse of Heaven. The first were stories by grandmother that she read out of the Bible or told me about from people she knew that this happened to. I do highly recommend this book for anyone that's interested in those last moments before death, those that tell what it was like before God sent them back. I received this book through www.bookclub.org to read, review and leave my honest opinion. If you are afraid of death this will help you overcome it. Remember, faith isn't about fear but by Grace of God. We, as Christians, don't have to be afraid.

This book is a wonderful affirmation of the existence of heaven. For those of us who believe in heaven, it is simply confirms our belief in the reality of it. For those who don’t believe or are unsure, it offers evidence of its existence with examples from Biblical times to the present. Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk have presented the events in others lives.
Following the stories relating others near-death experiences and the experiences of those watching others passing from this life, the authors give an overview of heaven and hell based on a Biblical point of view without delving into denominational ideologies.
I highly recommend this book to encourage those of us still living on this earth to hold fast to our faith. I also recommend it to those who don’t believe in heaven/hell as a source of study on a matter of importance to each of us.

Making Heaven “real”
This is a wonderful book filled with first-hand accounts and testimonies from people who experienced heaven. The stories are heart-felt and comforting and take away the fear of dying. The second part of the book delves into common questions about heaven and answers them in a clear, factual way, using Bible references to back up the authors’ thoughts. Each part of the book could easily stand alone as a book themselves, but together, they are a powerful tool for anyone struggling with the “reality” of heaven. Even if you already believe in heaven, this book will give you comfort and affirmation of your beliefs. The questions in the second part are great to read because they give you another point of view and guidance when you are faced with these questions. This book would be a great addition to every church library.

I Believe in Heaven is the third book I’ve read by Cecil Murphy. I thoroughly enjoyed 90 Minutes in Heaven and A Walk Through the Dark. This book was just as wonderful. I enjoy reading stories about people who have experienced Heaven and what really intrigued me about this book was that in addition to present day accounts, this book talked also about accounts of people from the Bible who experienced Heaven, bringing my understanding of Heaven and what I may encounter there full circle. This is one book that I will enjoy discussing with others, either in a book club or just talking a walk with my husband or family or friends. Thank you, Mr. Murphy and Ms. Belk, for writing a book that captured my attention in such a terrific way.

In reading this book I have received new thoughts and insights about what death and Heaven will be like. Each story of individual experiences of life after death are short, concise and complete. The stories are amazing. Some will have you in tears and some will leave you smiling. This book is definitely a great read! It is put together in an easy to follow format. You are able to read a couple of the stories if you are short on time or read it start to finish! The stories that the authors uses are full of love and hope. They speak of a beautiful place that we cannot begin to imagine. The stories will definitely make you think about your life and those you love, it will bring you to tears as you feel the loss the families felt but also bring tears of joy with the knowledge of what awaits us.

I Believe in Heaven
By Cecil Murphy and Twila Belk

I Believe in Heaven is real accounts of people who died and returned to tell their stories of Heaven to others, it also has Biblical and historical evidence of life beyond this life, and provides information about what will happen in our final days here on this earth. I enjoyed reading the stories and the biblical accounts, and couldn’t wait to share this book with others. It definitely was an eye opener for me and helped understand heaven a lot better. I really enjoyed this book so much that I donated my copy to our Church library for others to read.

Based on the title, I thought I would love this book. I didn't; I wanted to finish it, and it took me forever to slog through it.

The first half had stories about people seeing heaven, but there wasn't enough detail.

The second half answers questions about heaven. Although there were lots of Bible passages and scripture, I did not like what I was seeing. I don't think it was scripturally sound. The author tried too hard to be objective: "i.e. some groups believe this, some groups believe that." I don't want or need to hear about that; all I need to know is what Jesus said about it.

If you are posing as a Christian book, it needs to teach Christian doctrine.

an important read

While heaven and hell may not be logical, there is certainly sufficient evidence they are real. It is a book for believers and doubters.
