Revisiting calculus nearly a decade after graduating from engineering school as part of my M.B.A. program is exciting and refreshing. Studying managerial applications of calculus is far less demanding than engineering applications, but is just as rewarding.
The textbook largely focuses on traditional applications of calculus (essentially derivation and integration) but also touches upon many different types of mathematics that managers may run into. This includes basic probability, sets and series, financial equations like IRR, compound interest, bond coupons and premiums, and growth-- to name a few.
I used Tan's book to help me prepare for university level calculus - to revise pre-calculus algebra and become familiar with basic calculus concepts such as limits, derivatives, integrals etc. Tan's text and examples are very clear - I rarely had to refer to other texts to try and understand what was being said - and the exercises are very helpful, just a shame only half the answers (to odd questions) are given with the book. A good resource if you are trying to teach yourself basic calculus.
