Dean Williams broke the System's rules in Book 1. Now every major power in the multiverse wants him — dead, puppeted, or weaponized.
The Dragon Wizard Telkazorin has spent eons looking for a host body capable of fighting the System on his terms. He just found one. The System itself wants its Pulsar back in harness — a living weapon too valuable to leave running loose. And the Crusade? They've decided the cleanest solution is to destroy Earth entirely before it can become a problem.
Dean is the only thing standing between all three of them and everything he's built.
Beyond Void Difficulty, the power scaling changes. The enemies get smarter. The stakes stop being planetary and start being existential. While Earth's forces struggle to foresee a future that breaks every prediction spell they have, Dean has to do what he's always stand between the innocent and a never-ending apocalypse — except now the apocalypse has three faces and infinite resources.
Apocalypse BREAKER 2 is a fast-paced, over-the-top LitRPG epic featuring Void Difficulty power scaling, multiverse faction warfare, an overpowered rebellious MC, and escalating cosmic stakes. Co-authored by Aaron Renfroe and Sean Oswald.
Fans of David North's Guardian of Aster Fall series — watch for a special cameo appearance. Perfect for fans of apocalypse system LitRPG, progression fantasy, and overpowered MC multiverse adventures.
I struggled a bit with this rating, to the point where I decided to write a brief review. The parts that hit for me did so very well, but there are some things about the structure and content that would improve my reading experience if tweaked a little (mileage varies and all).
+ Dean continues to be an entertaining and surprisingly heartwarming spin on the sociopathic LitRPG hero archetype. There’s even some clever and interesting backstory involved that I hadn’t fully expected but found engaging. He’s a memorable character with a distinct voice, and I appreciate that.
+ While there’s an awful lot going on with various magic systems and interactions, it’s never a dull read. There’s even action is fun and feels rewarding as Dean’s challenges and capabilities evolve.
+ Robin. Love how he’s developing as a character.
- The frequent asides from the authors when introducing stat sheet interludes derail my immersion a bit. I think noting the organization at the beginning of the book is fine, but being addressed by the author during the read is a little odd for me (would rather that the sheet come up without preamble after the first time).
- I think there is such a thing as too many rapid-fire culture references, even in this genre and with the System being what it is in this universe. Sometimes I focus too much on all the nicknames and gaming culture jokes when something more important is going on.
- I don’t believe that every story needs to represent literally everyone, but the omission of any queer characters at all starts to stand out more in works that include a great variety of human and non-human characters and take place on a global and/or universal sort of stage. Eventually, it’s like “how are all the important women super hot, all the men are into them, and no one so much as knows of another person who isn’t completely straight?”
To sum it up, I’m keeping my rating on the higher end because I do think the authors are doing some cool things here, and I had fun reading. Some small changes would keep me immersed better is all.
It was okay+ so 2.5 rating but not worth a 3/5. - Chapter marks in the audio and actual book chapters are out of sync.. Example: audio ch-116 is actually book ch-77. This is because of all the extra non-chapter 'story' additions/separations also being counted as regular chapters. I didn't notice this until a good bit into the book leading me to think X more time and chapters were left of the book.🙄 Imagine hearing the narrator mention its ch-50 and you think.. Ah still a long way to go with this book having 120+ch. Silly but yeah disappointing. - I perceived a dip in writing quality in this book as compared to bk1. While listening I was often distracted by odd or suboptimal word choice or missing words. As if there was a purposeful avoidance of the obvious, instead limiting vocabulary by the actual choice,.. which I can't make sense of. - The audio narrator did a slightly better job this time around but still not great. 3.5/5 - I also found fairly substantial parts of the story in the lull between pivotal plot highlights.. to read like word garbage, dull lacking in reason and or detail.. not very coherent resulting in a loss of visualisation of the goings on for me as the reader. Ultimately leading to me nodding off and waking up whenever the narrator ramped up for some pivotal scene. Obviously this had me skipping back to find what I'd missed, rerunning those passages and taking more notice of the issue.
I found above problem most noticeable, 55>75% through the book or so, when the MC is on the last of a set of three 'other-world' missions.
So im terrible at writing reviews. Never know what to say, but these two did it again, and they deserve one. Book one was amazing and they managed to knock it out of the park once again with book two.
Action, adventure, a healthy dose of drama. Can't wait for book 3 to drop so I can re-read this and the first book in preparation for it.
Really enjoying the MC's progression, both from a stat perspective but we're also seeing him grow as a person and his drive to stand between as he gets stronger. Looking forward to book 3, should be some great chaos!
The MC is nuanced, the plot is oddly compelling, and the effects of the relationships is rewarding. The action is bombastic and overwrought, the settings are meaningless beyond the effect on the MC, and the politics are pointless nonsense. Better than the first book.
The pivotal plot points of this book, like the first are inherently interesting and a genuine joy to read. Unfortunately the in-between is such a drag that the reader needs to skip past large swaths of text to continue to enjoy it.
Wow! Lots going on here! Plenty of character growth for Dean, lots of adventure and lore drops! Nice to see him getting some friends as well! And the background action! It's going to be so very satisfying when things come to fruition!
Apocalypse BREAKER, book two of the LitRPG series of the same name, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). More of Dean's past and his path unfold. Wonderful story telling and relationship building. Steady plot progression and plenty of action.
