Just One Sip is the first installment in Scarlett Dawn's new adult, contemporary romance series titled: The Club. It features two characters who are surprisingly complex in a way I don't commonly read about: . I really enjoyed meeting such interesting characters and I admire Ms. Dawn for her willingness to go outside the norm. The two leads grew up together since childhood and are basically each other's one and only. The way Ms. Dawn shows their relationship is by letting the reader glimpse their interactions together at random ages. This was done by skipping around various time frames in no particular order. As a reader I would have preferred just one strong, consistent story. Given the short length (under 100 pages) and the time hopping, I didn't feel as connected to the characters and story as I may have otherwise. The style of this book is creative, but it just didn't work for me personally. This is just my experience though. Check it out for yourself!

My favorite quote:
"Rules are made to be stomped the f*ck on. I've told you that many times." I grumbled under my breath, "Great advice from a mother."

Scarlett Dawn has created romantic passion and magic once again! Just One Sip is the tale of lifelong best friends and sweethearts who both agree they belong together inwardly, but Lucy is reluctant to commit to Jet. Everyone knows they are both off limits to anyone else, but has time and distance apart changed them? Jet is opening “The Club” and it looks to be the focal point of this series of novellas. The chemistry is there, the love is there, the shared past is there, so what’s the hold up? Could events in the present be the catalyst to finally bring best friends together?

Sometimes there is nothing more fun than watching two people, clearly longing for each other who have had a lifetime of friendship and love behind them. Enjoy the nostalgic and sweetly warm memories told from both Jet and Lucy’s POV as we are flashed back into their younger years and then returned to the present day, over and over. Touching, tempting, humorous and wickedly passionate, Scarlett Dawn send another great tale into the stratosphere of great reading!

3.5 Stars...this one is just a little weird for me. It had all of the awesomeness that is Scarlett Dawn in the writing style but for some reason I didn't "mesh" well with the story like I have with her books in the past. Full review to come...

**FULL REVIEW**

“My mouth hung open in a silent plea. He had actually broken up with me. He was mine. I was his. Shit like this wasn’t supposed to happen to us. We had been together longer than any of our friends had. We were made for each other. What the hell had just happened?”

We follow Lucy and Jet through the years of their lives, jumping back and forth from when they were children till now, present day. I can say, I actually like that in a book. I like the insight, the struggles, the changes and growth that are witnessed between the characters.

They are soulmates, born to love each other and no one else. I guess when you know you know…

What confused me was that there didn’t seem to be any specific conflict or dilemma, other than they had spent years apart. Being that it was a short novella, I’m thinking there is more…please say there’s more?

While I love Scarlett Dawn’s style of writing, this wasn’t my favorite. I think I need a little more drama in my books…my regular life is drama-free (which is how I prefer it), but in my mind, I love the turmoil. I love the idea of unreciprocated love, angst, challenges, heartache, even death…okay, maybe that takes it a little far, but you get the idea. I didn’t get any of that.

What I did get is childhood friends-turned sweethearts-turned long distance lovers. There is an inkling of angst in one chapter (which I quoted above—sorry if I spoiled it) and the idea of what could happen with the “family business” definitely has me intrigued. So, will I read the next book in The Club Series? Absolutely. Do I have high expectations? 100%. Don’t let me down, Scarlett…I have a feeling this could be the start of something really good!

~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

Just One Sip is the first book in The Club series. This first book gives you just enough information, and just enough look into what is going on to keep you reading! You are going to want to come back to The Club. Lucy and Jet were best friends from the age of 4 and 5. Everyone in town know that Lucy is off limits as is Jet, Lucy has been Jets’ since the day they were introduced at Jet’s 5th birthday party. Not even a 6 year gap can come between them. The chemistry is there, it is hot.
This is the first book that I have read by Scarlett. If all of her books are like this one, then I am going to have read more of her work. She has grabbed me and held on, and I’m not sure that it is ever going to let go. I can’t wait to read more of this series. I have a feeling that this series is going to take me on a wild ride!! If you have never read any of Scarlett’s work, you need to. Start with this book!!

I don't know how to rate this...quite frankly that's plucking my nerves.

I was engrossed in every single part of this book. I was really getting into it and then it ended. I feel that I'm a big selfish hog because I want more dang it. I feel like Lucy and Jet's story could be a length novel easily. The story was a bit bittersweet, which added the depth of intrigue. Unfortunately, it left me seriously craving more and that's where I feel there's a big conundrum.

I loved it and disliked it all at the same time.

It's like I was served a DELICIOUS appetizer as the main course. Absolutely loved it but I'm left unsatisfied.

Although "heat" in a book is minor to me I felt going into this book there was going to be some but there really wasn't.

So... I guess..... A 3 for overall but I feel a 4 in there too.
I dunno.

Let me know what you all think.

Just One Sip is he first book in a new series that revolves around a sex club, known only as "The Club". This book, however, tells the story of its owner; Jet Mak and the love of his life; Lucy Plume.

Their life together is slowly revealed, through flashbacks, until we know just what's been keeping them apart for the last few years. My favorite part was how Jet referred to a dare from their childhood on the final pages of the novella.

I don't think I will continue the series, but I enjoyed the story, nevertheless.

Mostly backstories with a few chapters of present days. Last chapter is back when they first met at Jet’s 5th birthday party and Lucy was 4… kind of cuts off and left me with what the hell….

*** 6 year long distance separation since she went to college and neither one never cheated on the other, even though Jet owns a sex club

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I am a big fan of Scarlett's so I was on board with this novel from the start. I always love a good doing together novel. Sometimes a move novella without a ton of drama is exactly what you need.

This novella delivered. It was a heart warming and enjoyable read about finally saying Yes. Saying yes to the man you love and the life that you re meant to have. I felt like we got just enough of the background to get to know the characters and to get that warm and fuzzy feeling for them.

I am always amazed at how much an author can fit into a novel so short. I read this in about 20 minutes and can honestly say  it was perfect. Just want I needed. I feel like the title played a dual meaning. It had to do with the story itself, but it also had to do with your feelings while reading it. You re given Just A Sip of the world and its characters. Just enough to know that you are going to enjoy it, but nt enough to fully satisfy you. I will definitely be checking out the other works in this project.

A well developed and expertly delivered novella with characters that you will instantly fall in love with.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.

From a fast childhood friendship to surviving a teenage angst filled separation to standing on the edge of forever together, Lucy Plume and Jet Mak's love has stood the test of time. If Lucy could only shut down the anxiety that keeps her from taking the final step in cementing their future they would get their happy ever after. Can Jet get Lucy to accept what she's already knows, that they're mean to be?

What I Loved: I have a special place in my heart for novellas and Just One Sip is a prime example of why they rock. In just 68 pages author Scarlett Dawn packs in two decades of sweet friendship, first love, and passionate devotion between leads Jet and Lucy. The connection between Jet and Lucy becomes so strong and so transparent in such a brief amount of time, it was impossible not to fall for both characters and cheer them on.

What I Didn't Love: Just One Sip is a solid novella with little not to enjoy.

Favorite Quotes:

"He and I, we were made for each other. Two cinnamon rolls in a zipped up baggie. With extra icing. And maybe a random green sprinkle or two."

"He's the man I want to take just one sip from every minute of every hour of every day. For the rest of my life."

If you're looking for a quick read that has sweet romance, is well-written and has great leads, Just One Sip is the book for you. Just One Sip is the first in The Club novella series and I will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of the novellas

Happy reading.

” ‘You know Jet isn’t the type of man to take just one sip from.’

My lips twitched. ‘Actually, you’re wrong. He’s the man I want to take just one sip from every minute of every hour of every day. For the rest of my life.’ “

Though it’s just a novella, Just One Sip still has all of the elements of a good read: intriguing characters that are well developed, even in a short format, a juicy romantic plot, and just enough steam. Jet and Lucy’s best friends to lovers story is sweet, hot, and satisfying.

The book’s timeline skips around a bit, so it’s important to check the heading when starting a new chapter so that you know where you are. It took me a couple of chapters to get used to it, but the story still flowed. It made complete sense and the glimpses in to the past enhanced the story of the present. As with all of Dawn’s books that I have read, the writing style is uniquely hers: clear and well-written, with genuine dialogue and emotion, sexiness, and a quirky sense of humor.

Though Jet and Lucy’s romance is a story all in it’s own, it seems that there’s more going on in the background. There’s a mysterious air surrounding Jet and Lucy’s family, as well as The Club. I’ll be looking out for future books in the series to see where this story might lead.

I have been a fan of Scarlett Dawn since I first read King Cave. When I had the opportunity to read this book I flipped and squealed with excitement! I loved how throughout the book we kept having flashbacks to different time periods and things they had experienced together, I wish we had a little more information during all the time they had spent apart but I'm sure there will be more in the next book. I absolutely loved how possessive Jet is when Lucy comes to visit him at the club and a certain bartender is flirting with her. I fell horrible for Jet and his father having to deal with his mother and her ailment. I have personal experience with the disease and know the toll it takes on families and loved ones. I really felt the connection between these two and never doubted for a minute they were meant to be together and I really liked how it was just a known fact to Lucy that neither of them cheated on the other while they were separated by distance. I was a little exasperated by what had happened in the beginning, but it all fans out fairly soon. Lucy's mom is a riot and I look forward to more about her and her men lol. All in all I loved the beginning of this series and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment!!! I'm rating this in at five hearts!!

After the death of her grandmother, Lucy Plume returns to Karim, Texas. To her crazy, hippie mother and the guy she left behind. While Lucy's mom is happy to have never married and smokes pot in the back room of her bakery, Lucy wants more, she's just not sure. Jet Mak is every girls dream in Karim. He's tall, dark, and rich. Of Italian ancestry he inherited his father's business and is making quite a name for himself in business. When Lucy's mom schedules Lucy to help with a catering event at Jak's new club, the two are thrown back in time to where they left off...six years ago when Lucy left Jak behind.

I read the author's synopsis of the book and was intrigued. The synopsis mentioned dark secrets and mystery. As I read the book I realized the secrets weren't that dark and the mystery.....well is still a mystery. The story jumps back and forth through the lives of Lucy and Jak which makes keeping up difficult. One chapter your in the present, the next chapter they are 16, then back to the present, then back to 9. I think the story would have flowed better if the author started with the present, went back to the beginning and built from there. The book is a novella so its a quick read. The title says Just One Sip (The Club #1) like it will be a series. I'm not sure if I'll get the next book.

This is a fabulous, sweet short story by the remarkable Scarlett Dawn.

This book is so amazing. The characters are likable, realistic, caring, sweet.. oh just so amazing.

Let me tell you this! I wish I had a best boyfriend like this man, Jet! For REAL!

The opening of this book was amazing... lured you right in to want to know more about these characters!

Lucy and Jet have been friends, best friends and in love... when she returns from college, it's electric. I loved them together. I loved the flash backs into their childhood, the amazing "MOM" scene! That was so touching, I melted..... just awww!!!

If you want a remarkable story about family, love, true devotion to one woman, true love, melting moments that will touch your heart with a bit of heat, sexy club appeal... then you need to read this short story!!

Just One Sip.... is heart warming, phenomenally written and I can't say more.... Just grab it today! You will be so glad you did!!!

5 "Screaming over the phone" stars! :) :) HEHEE Get it, Scarlett! ;) You know i love to do this for you! ;)

eARC Review:

While the romance itself was quite sweet, but I couldn't help but notice something was missing from this novella. I thought the concept was great, who doesn't like a childhood sweetheart story? I really enjoying reading about the spacial connection between Lucy and Jet. However at the same time I felt everything I read merely touched the surface of their relationship. And I was looking for more details and elaboration, I want to understand why and how they fall in love, and what makes their love special.

Because this novella was quite short, it break down in short chapters, which give you a cursory glance of Lucy and Jet's past and present. Although the "past" chapters give you some idea of their history, and why was their relationship special. But the way they were written it was more of telling you instead of showing you. The "present" chapters were equally desultory and when it ended it felt incomplete, which leaves me wanting more.

Overall I like the idea of this novella, but I wish there was more to it. Will there be more of Lucy and Jet? I really hope so.

Happy Reading!! XO

Thank goodness this novella, Just One Sip is the start to a series. The writing and storytelling was awesome - I desperately want more from Jet and Lucy!

I loved the way the author endears you to the characters with her flashbacks of their past life experiences together. It made their story addictive and compelling. They have been bonded together since a very young age and they are truly loyal to one another. Their coupling is dynamic; not only do they find solace and companionship in one another - but their relationship is passionate and sweet.

Just One Sip was a delightful introduction to this series and to the characters. I am so curious to where the plot of this series will go. I assume there are all kinds of secrets hiding in the dark corners of Jet's world. It adds a layer of mystery and suspense that left me desiring more story from the them. And I cannot wait to see how Lucy fits into his world.

I highly recommend this novella and I look forward to reading more from this author with The Club Series.

A cute story to make you smile and get you a little hot and bothered, but it is strange in the sense that I'm actually not sure what to make of it.
There was no real conflict or challenge to the relationship. It was written around both those things, with hints and mentions of tougher times but nothing else. It's like the point of the book was to say... "here is a couple who it totally and completely abnormal but still leads a very boring and mundane life of happy, issueless love, destined to be together since children and knew it all along. Minimal rough spots but don't worry cause you don't have to read how they got through it or anything like that. all rose without the thorns, bugs, and all other things that happen in the real world."

Question: What is the point of him being all mob, gangster, business bully badass, with a numbers 'thing' and her having panic attacks in this romance? Why not be something as equally mundane as the story?

it's a cute, happy story but it's also a very amateur one too.

Read at your own risk.

I typically don't enjoy these serialized stories, however, I loved Just One Sip. It was a very enjoyable read, giving everyone a glimpse of one true love through whatever trials and tribulations life throws your way. These two, Lucy and Jet, were simply made for each other. The strength of their bond was amazing. The way they believed in and supported each other as well as understood each other was what I would consider true soul mates. I would have loved to know more about Jet's problem with numbers and what went on during the six years they were apart, but the flashbacks to their childhoods was pretty self-explanatory in terms of their relationship. I really thought those flashbacks were well incorporated and very interesting. Loved the end of the book, the choices Lucy made in terms of her life with Jet and I loved her ring! I hope we hear more about these two in future installments. Loved this! Highly Recommended!

Another amazing story by Scarlett Dawn. I read this during my kids nap time and it's quick to suck you in and keep you in the story. You have to pay attention to the chapter headings as the timeline changes from present to past quite a few time.

These two characters have been friends since they were 4 and 5. They were truly meant to be. They balance each other out which is quite rare I think...from such an early age.

The adversity Lucy faces makes her a much stronger person and who she needs to be for Jet. From what I can tell he is a prominent person in the community and will need a strong woman to back him when he takes over his fathers businesses.

I look forward to seeing more Bout these two in the upcoming The Club series.

I love how Mrs Dawn write so it wasn't much of a stretch to think that I'll love this one too.
It's such a lovely, tender story. Two people destined to be together. Love at first sight at 4 years of age.
A love that survived teenagers years, a break of the relationship for a misunderstanding and miscommunication, and a 6 years period of long distance relationship.
Wow.
It's so sad that real life DO NOT go like this. It's sweet? Yes. Real? No.
And this is why I can't rate this novella with a 5 stars rate.
That doesn't mean that I won't read the rest of this series. But I'll do it with eyes wide open.

This Novella is so good.

Lucy and Jet are soul mates. They have been friends since they were 4 and 5. They dated in high school....and then they broke up.....but I won't tell you why!

I was so engrossed in this book that I finished it in 1 hour! Granted everything is fast-paced.....I still loved every second of it!

Jet is something else that is for sure and he is a rare breed.

I can't wait the read more of The Club series!

I do like how this author talks about anxiety and Alzheimer's. I myself can relate to Lucy's issues....it isn't fun......and Alzheimer's can be very hard and heart breaking. My grandfather suffered from it.

I have to say aside from Jet my favorite character was Mrs. Mak......hands down!

Just One Sip is a very short story but like I told the author it is very sweet. I freaking love childhood/best friends to lovers theme. So if anyone is a fan of that you'll love it. But like I mentioned it's very short although you'll get to learn about Lucy and Jet's past. And the things Jet did for Lucy especially the first time they met each other (won't spoil more of that part).

They were made for each other. Even when they were apart, their love for one another held true.

So sweet, romantic, and very H.O.T. I kind of wish it was longer but oh well.

Reading this book, I was very conflicted in terms of what to say. On the one hand I loved the story despite how cliche the summary was. The characters were all very easy to love and relate to. The story was fairly straight forward. On the other hand, many aspects of the book bothered me a lot. For example the length of the book...it was way too short. The story felt very rushed and could be fleshed out. The history of the characters seem to thrown at the readers at some of the oddest times. I gave it a 4 since I love the story but can't get past the lack of organization in the book.

I loved the characters. Lucy and Jet each had unique issues but if anything those brought them closer as children. Jet was a keeper for sure. His mom was sweet and Lucy's mother was a hoot!

This book goes back and forth between present day and the past but it is clearly marked and there is no confusion as to what time frame you are reading.

I really can't wait to read more!

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. It was quick, sweet, and not nearly enough for me! I really liked it and am eager for more.
