Blurb: Life has never been easy for Karly Eriksson. Raised in a dysfunctional and abusive home, she struggles to break the chain of misfortune. She’s determined to finish college and rescue her little sister Emma from a similar fate at any cost, including her self-esteem.
The mistakes of her past complicate her future when she hooks up with Randy Mackenzie, the tattooed bouncer/bartender from the infamous Felony Bar. They shared one night together during the previous summer, and now he’s back in her life. He’s hot, intense, and tortured by emotions he’ll never reveal to anyone, especially her.
Despite Randy’s feelings for Karly, he can’t tell her what she needs to hear. She’s the only sunshine in his bleak existence, illuminating the dark and dusty corners of his life. The mother of his child left him because he couldn’t say those three little words, and it cost him the most precious thing in his life: his son. Will he lose Karly, too, or can he overcome his irrational fear of emotional intimacy?
I love how each of the men in your books are strong but also vulnerable. I also like that they are unique not cookie cutter. They are individuals. Randy melted my heart!
Oh my days! This couple took forever to say the 3 little words out loud, more so on his part, but there is a reason, which u eventually find out why he couldn’t say it. Have the tissues on hand.
"Vindicated" by Jeana E. Mann is an intoxicating and steamy romance that follows the prequel "Unexpected" about two deeply scarred people who amid all the turmoil of their problems find love. It begins six months after a one- night stand that had no expectations or regrets but left Karly Eriksson and Randy MacKenzie continually thinking about each other, but never following up. Their lives are still a bubbling cauldron of troubles, but when they stumble into one another at a course on campus sparks begin to fly again.
This is the first time I've felt that a prequel is a must-read because it sets the stage for the emotionally-charged plot in "Vindicated". Both Karly and Randy's lives have been laid waste by the emotional trauma of dysfunctional and abusive childhood homes as well as betrayal and loss as adults. Each struggles with bad decisions and even worse luck that has left Karly struggling with poverty and wanting to adopt her sister Emma. Similarly Randy wants to break away from his unsavory lifestyle and the vindictiveness of his ex-girlfriend who not only betrayed him but is determined to keep him away from his son.
The atmosphere of Felony Bar where Randy and Karly continually run into each other is filled with pulsating music, laser lights, fog and sweaty, gyrating bodies which is indicative of Randy and Karly's moods with their unpredictable, energetic swing between sexual tension, frustration, uncertainty and irritation. But, both have to wade through their problems before they can deal with the shivers of attraction that continually undermine their friendship. The author's writing style includes a lot of slang and swearing which for me detracts from the smooth flow of the story although it's usage reflects the world the two live and work in. The sex scenes are sensual and highly passionate but realistically emerge as a result of the plot line.
Karly Eriksson's life isn't easy. Having made foolish mistakes that have cost nothing but heartache, Karly is stubbornly determined to finish school and find a decent paying job so she can make a better life for herself and her sister Emma; even if she has to sacrifice her pride. Similarly Randy MacKenzie Felony Bar's bouncer has lead a rough life and has built a defensive wall around his heart; one which cost him his ex-girlfriend Pilar and his three year old son Caleb. He's a man who hates to feel out of control, and masks a kind, gentle nature behind overconfidence, seriousness and aggression. Unable to express his feelings , to tell Karly he loves her, Randy finds more grief than joy in their relationship. Only when he recognizes the depth of his feelings and opens his heart to her is he able to find true happiness.
All the characters in this story including Ally Taylor, Karly's loyal friend and mentor; Jack Jameson the fun-loving , strong-willed owner of Felony Bar; and Amber Patrick the expensive, cool but empty-headed student add to the drama and strength of this captivating romance.
I enjoyed "Vindicated" with its emotionally scarred couple who find love and happiness amid a storm of troubles. I recommend it to those that like a steamy contemporary romance.
“being with you is like a schizophrenic nightmare”
Vindicated Book #2 of the Felony Romance Series Jeana Mann Now before you read Vindicated you must read the prequel to it Unexpected. In this short short story you get some insight on Randy Mackenzie and Karly herself. Both these characters are emotionally scarred. Randy has built some pretty iron walls around his heart and soul. Karly emotionally insecure needs to hear she is loved and wanted. Okay so that being said Vindicated is definitely Karly and Randy’s love story. Randy emotionally shut out as a child by his father can’t seem to have lasting relationships. So when his girlfriend and also the mother of his child decides to walk out on him for someone else (who happens to be a friend of his and Karly’s brother) this just adds another nail to his emotional coffin. My take on his and Pilar’s relationship other than his son was she was beautiful and eye candy on his arm. Don’t get me wrong he may have cared for her but he really wasn’t emotionally invested in her and he just couldn’t make himself say the four little letters she wanted to hear. Karly on the other hand was abused as a child and really never shown much love. In fact when she turned sixteen her father threw her out of the house with nothing. Also in emotional lockdown Karly didn’t want to get involved with anyone. Her main goal was getting herself through college and getting Emma (her little sister) away from her father and mother. She was bound and determined to better herself and make a better life for her sister. The chemistry between Karly and Randy is electrifying seriously electrifying. Randy is definitely developing an emotional connection with Karly and he doesn’t know how to deal with it. Actually he’s afraid to deal with it. For fear of being left alone and out in the cold. Randy and Karly take the readers on an emotional rollercoaster. Karly does things to him and makes him feel things no other woman has not even his ex. Your heart will bleed for them. When you think things are going to work out BAM there is a huge set back. Ms. Mann also threw a major twist in this read regarding Karly and her sister Emma. OMG I had to read that part three times. The other heart break moment was with Randy at a gas station when he sees his father but the man doesn’t even recognize him. I so choked up. Oh who am I kidding there were dozens of heartbreak moments, but there was also lots of tender moments. Just a great balance so you weren’t constantly strung out the entire read. Honestly I was totally satisfied with the ending. It actually brought tears to my eyes. So so sweet. God I love Randy. 5* lady great job.
I really like the Felony Romance Series. The books are well written with a good storyline and interesting characters. Although this review is for book 2, Vindicated, my comment is actually regarding the series as a whole.
Book 1, Intoxicated left an unresolved situation with Jack's ex, Chelsea. This was addressed somewhat in book 2, but there were still unanswered questions. Jack's ex didn't turn out to be so bad and everyone seemed to like her in varying degrees, so I am wondering if there is a book 3 coming with her as the main character.
Book 2, Vindicated, was a bit of a downer. All the characters had rotten childhoods. As adults they were all just scraping by but Randy and Karly had custody issues that looked hopeless. That being said, I still think the book was good. However, I felt there was a huge jump with lots of things unexplained, between the end of the book and the epilogue. I am really hoping there will be a book 3 that might fill in the blanks.
This is a continuation of the Felony Gang's story. This is also a continuation of the story of Karly and Randy, who no matter how hard they try, manage to get things all knotted up. I enjoyed the give and take between the two of them, even though I, once again, was ready to boot Randy's butt all over town in a few places in the book.
These two go together like PB&J, oil and vinegar, lemon and lime. Not always are they completely together, but they are certainly mixed together and complement each other. Ms. Mann developed both of these characters to the max in this book. We learn all there is to know about both of them, and why they feel the things they feel.
This was a very good book. Again, with the typos, but nothing that really detracted from my reading.
From beginning to end Jeana Mann held my attention. How nice to read a realistic romance where a lot of not so perfect turned into a happily ever after. The intimate scenes added depth to the storyline and was hot but tasteful. This isn't a sweet little vanilla romance...it's a rich and intoxicating love story.
The continuation of Karly and Randy's story. Two people so broken, torn up with issues and yet can still find it in their hearts to reach out to each other. This is a bittersweet story, fraught with angst, guilt and sadness but also eventually comes with hope, forgiveness and a beautiful love between two beautiful people. Loved it.....
What an absolutely fabulous read! I enjoyed every second of it, I just couldn't put it down! I'm so excited for the next book but I do wonder what came of Chelsea?
I enjoyed this book even though I read them out of series! The characters are so genuine and the storyline line isn’t so out of the norm ... realistic.
