Never play cat and mouse with a saber-tooth tiger.

When Kale Andrews gets disturbing mail from an obsessed fan, his brother drags him to Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. Kale reluctantly agrees to have a bodyguard, but when a tall, muscular blond walks into the office emanating power and a sexy dose of danger, Kale's doubts about needing the man with him twenty-four hours a day quickly disappear.

The easy babysitting job Aleksi was promised quickly changes from strange mail to threatening deliveries, so Aleksi has to become creative to keep his protectee out of danger. Everyone knows models are self-centered and shallow, so why does being with Kale make him feel like he finally has a home? Since he's a saber-tooth tiger and naturally dominant, most people aren't strong enough to be with him in a relationship or even as a friend. Yet Kale seems to calm his beast, simultaneously exciting the man in Aleksi.

Neither man expects nor wants a relationship with strings, but as they grow closer, Aleksi realizes that Kale might be his mate. With an obsessed fan escalating toward murder, Aleksi isn't sure that even his tiger can keep his mate safe.

There really is nothing better than a good book and a big mug of tea on a rainy day, which is often needed when considering the wet weather in Wales. She is rarely found without a book of some description on her person and a notebook, she can always be seen scribbling and doodling while lost in thought about sometimes random nonsense or day dreaming about alternate worlds of fiction. Real life may not be much fun but the imagination allows infinite possibilities to be explored and lots of naughty fun too if you're up to the challenge. So in the words of a crazy scientist - I reject your reality and submit one of my own. Happy reading.

This is my second book by this author and while I had issues with the first one I did enjoy parts of it enough to try another one. Unfortunately, those issues seemed compounded here to the point where it was a struggle to finish it.

I did like the characterization of the MC’s, Kale and Aleksi were intriguing men with interesting background stories and they did have well written chemistry and sex scenes so that was a plus.

The villain in the first book I read was over the top insane and so was the bad guy in this one. I just found the stalker storyline was way too far out for me to enjoy in any way. The story is centered on shifters so I’m willing to suspend belief on a lot of angles but this just had me rolling my eyes more than once over situations that the characters had to deal with and I often found the dialogue stilted and unrealistic.

In the end this just isn’t an author that works for me. There are pieces of the story that work well but as a whole it felt fractured and wasn’t a read I enjoyed.

I've read wolf & dragon shifters for the Bachelor Challenge, so I thought I'd switch it up and check out a cat-shifter, especially given how Sabre-tooth tigers are extinct - and this one didn't disappoint. Still wondering how Not-Barry got his hands on all that military-grade stuff, though...maybe that gets cleared up in the next one?

3.5 stars maybe?

Kale is an international male supermodel being stalked by a violent fan. Kale's brother/manager Caleb finally talks Kale into hiring a protection agency. Enter Aleksi, a 6'10" sabertoothed tiger shifter with a dislike for "pretty boys". I liked that despite Kale being a successful model, his character is not presented in a campy or over the top way. Kale is not an airhead and Aleksi soon finds that his preconceived ideas about Kale are wrong. Along those same lines Aleksi definitely comes off as alpha without tipping over into asshole territory.

This was a fun, well-balanced story. The action/mystery doesn't completely overshadow the building relationship between MCs. The banter and "give as good as you get" interactions between Kale and Aleksi had me smiling like a goof at times. There is no real angst, but I didn't miss it. The world building was detailed enough but never overwhelming. I enjoyed this. The end chapters seemed to set up Caleb's book next and I will definitely pick it up.

The Romance Review

Sexy body guard plus saber-tooth shifter. What's not to enjoy in this paranormal romance?

S.A. Welsh is a new-to-me author and my first taste of her is good. Kale Andrews is an international supermodel who is actually a nice guy. When does this happen? Models are usually narcissistic asshats who believe the world revolves around them. When the much in demand model is in high demand and down to earth, it tends to bring out the crazies.

When a fan becomes disturbingly fixated, Kale's brother forces him to take on a body guard. Aleksi takes on this seemingly easy job with some reservations. Not fond of pretty boys, Aleksi figures this will be a pain in the butt assignment. That is, until he gets to know Kale and wants to do more than guard his body.

The chemistry between Kale and Aleksi is cute, sexy and at times a bit playful. Whilst it's made to seem that Aleksi is an over the top dominant because of his alpha shifter animal, I didn't see it. Would I submit to Aleski? Probably, but he doesn't make me weak in the knees. Then again, it's probably because he bats for the other team.

The relationship development in this story is romantic and sweet. The plot device in the story is straightforward with creepy deliveries and threatening written words. It's a pretty stereotypical obsessive stalker theme. There are no real surprise to the story and it ends as a reader would expect.

From a paranormal romance viewpoint, this story checks off the list for soulmate, happy animal within the human shifter and a submissive but not cowering human mate. It's predictable, familiar and easy to follow. The one thing different is using a saber-tooth shifter, which is not as common. This worked well in the story as Aleski is a kick-ass body guard.

This m/m romance is recommended for paranormal romance lovers who enjoy alpha male shifters who go all growly when they are in protection mode.

I had my doubts at the very beginning, thinking ok a male egotystical male that's going to have to take the hard road..

Quickly get past the mask and see into the real person.. And an attraction to a rare cat shifter. Protection is their life basically.. and with all the advantages of their animal I wasn't crazy about this guy, this stalker, getting past them so easily. This guy has money at disposal for getting military grade stuff so why get fixated on an up and coming model? Of course there's not really a rhyme or reason for stalkers to pick, just weird.

Mating.. not an automatic scenting thing. Man and animal decide, grow attached, etc and commence a bonding process that is like an urge that CAN pass if given enough time if not established. Heck, these two didn't even have intercourse right away, just some mutual playing together getting off while getting to know each other in between hits from the stalker. The biggest thing for me was that when Kale goes running to brother Caleb's rescue that Aleski doesn't wake up until 10 minutes later.. He's the shifter, bodyguard, protector... and he didn't hear his new lover/mate get up and hear the phone? didn't sense anything when later they seem to get an emotional sense of the other?

Other than that, I certainly would like to see more from this series and thought the cliffhanger was an interesting way to close this particular chapter

I'm a little stuck on the rating with this one. 2 stars seems a little harsh so I'm going with 3 but I'm being generous. The amount of editing errors was ridiculous. Maybe it skipped that department. And the entire premise of the book, that Kale is being dangerously stalked, was interesting but why did they never find out the guy's name? They called him Not-Barry the whole time. wtf? Even after he was arrested? Weird. The sex was okay but I didn't really buy into their whole relationship. I don't know why but it didn't feel like some great romance. Not sure I'll bother with any more from the series.

This is one of those times when I say it’s me and not the book. I just didn’t care much for the story. There were parts I enjoyed. It was hot when Kale and Aleksi mated. I just really didn’t get into the stalker part of the story. You don’t know who he is until the epilogue and then you only knew his name. I’ll never know why he stalked Kale because I won’t be reading the next book.

I quite enjoyed this story and liked the idea Shifter Protection Specialists. The world is built around humans and paranormals co-existing together. In a way I guess you could consider this under the whole mate/mine insta-attraction category. Aleksi is a bodyguard and Kale needs protecting from a stalker. There is instant attraction, but the whole "mate" thing takes a while. I liked that Aleksi was a saber tooth tiger, I don't think I have read any books with that type of shifters so it made this a little different in that aspect. Kale and Aleksi are very different in looks and personalities, but their relationship does work and they are enjoyable characters who are both insecure and looking for someone to love and to love them back.

I look forward to getting to know the other "brothers" involved in the agency, who have all been rescued by Robert and brought together to form a family. You only get a quick intro to them in this story, but the epilogue sets it up so it would seem that each will get their own story. Hopefully it won't be too long before the next story comes out as I would like to see where the author goes with this series.

After reluctantly agreeing to have a bodyguard, Kale Andrews must rely on Aleksi to keep him safe when the stalker escalates to murder in this thrilling erotic m/m paranormal romance. I was completely caught up in the story from the beginning and I certainly think that these sexy shifters promise some thrilling and passionate adventures ahead so I am looking forward to reading the next one.

I am not entirely sure what drew me toward Purrfect Protector. However, after reading the blurb, it wouldn't leave me alone. I hesitated to pick it up for a long time because my last experience with the author's work was not positive. In all honesty, I have had a number of less than stellar encounters with the publisher's work as a whole recently. However, the book just kept cropping up and telling me I needed to read it.

I really enjoyed this book. Kale a snobby model is being stalked. He's in need of bodyguard service and enters Aleksi. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. This book had all the elements I love about m/m and shifters.

When his brother drags him into Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. because he has been getting rather increasingly threatening mail from a stalker, Kale is resistant. He doesn’t want a bodyguard. But he takes one look at Aleski, the man being assigned to him, and changes his mind. A little shallow, yes, but that man would made a saint drool. When the danger around him escalates, Kale begins to see that a choice made by what’s in his pants, might be the only thing keeping his head on his neck, because the stalker has no problems upping the stakes. And in this game, it is likely only one of them will be left standing. It is a good thing then, that Kale has Aleski by his side.

This book ended up being rather more aggravating than it should have been. Or maybe I just need to stop going into shifter books with the expectation that less than 50% of the story will be sex. Or that at least one of the MCs will not be TSTL. Or that the bad guy will have any real characterization other than ‘evil crazy fucker.’ Maybe I should stop reading shifter stories because this has been the second one this week that has frustrated me to no end.

*buries head in hands and resists the urge to scream and/or cry*.

Ok. Well, let’s find some bright side to all this, because I’m stuck having to write this review and I don’t want to be all doom and gloom. 1:30 am is not a time for doom and gloom; it’s a time for more coffee and even more fanfics. So I might as well just get on with it, so I can go back to my two great loves/addictions.

Things I liked about this book:

The shifters. I may have a hard time figuring how a saber-tooth tiger shifter realistically is still around in this world/time, but it was something out of the ordinary and I liked it. And the fact that the animal part of Aleski’s nature actually seemed animalistic was a boon.

The sex. Sorta. While there was a lot of it (too much for me, to be honest) it was hot. I love how these types of books can get hot and heavy because of the nature of one (or both) of the MCs. And biting is yummy. I wish there had been more biting.

The way Aleski reacts to Kale’s job. Kale is a model, it is what he does for a living, and I really liked how Aleski may not have liked a bunch of people staring at his boyfriend/mate, but sucked it up and realized that he doesn’t have the right to demand that Kale change his job.

Now for the frustrating part (this is probably going to be a bit spoilery):

‘Not-Barry.’ When it comes out that the stalker was not in fact named Barry, everyone started to refer to him as Not-Barry. Which made a bunch of professional bodyguards/cops look like idiots. It sounded so incredibly stupid, to hear all these people go around having conversations referencing some dude as Not-Barry. It may in fact have been true. The stalker was indeed, not Barry. But you didn’t go around calling him Not-Frank or Not-JoJo-the-Laughing-Clown before you thought his name was Barry, so why the fuck would you suddenly start calling him Not-Barry. If you do not know the dude’s name, you could just call him ‘the suspect’ or ‘the stalker.’

The stalker. Who I refuse to call Not-Barry for above stated reasons. He is so two dimensional it is surprising I didn’t get paper cuts just reading this. He’s crazy for crazy’s sake, apparently the stalker version of James Bond, and we never really understand what the fuck is going on with him. He dies off page (I assume), by someone related to Aleski (I think), and we don’t even know his name till the Epilogue (which is only there to set up what I presume is book two). I never really feared him because A) he was such a cartoon villain that he was sure to lose and B) Aleski was so powerful that there was no way he would lose.

The end. The last 25 pages or so of this story is wrap-up. Unfortunately, the whole book is only like 150 pages long, so that is almost 1/4 of the book right there. I kept waiting for something to happen, and nothing did. I just kept meandering along from scene to scene. And while some of the scenes were interesting, they really didn’t have an overall purpose to the story so it felt like they were there just to pad out the page count.

And the fact that these are not even the entirety of my issues with this book is the reason I found this book less than a stellar read for me. There was a lot in this book that could have been real interesting, but…it just wasn’t there, in the end.

2.5 stars

Caleb is a hard character to get to know. We only are given a glimpse in to the history of Caleb and Kale. However, right away you know that Caleb is the protector. Kale knows that he is in danger, but is resistant to having a protection duty placed on him. Then, in walks Aleksi... Because of Aleksi's extra abilities, he can instantly smell the desire that Kale embodies.

I really liked this story. It was full of mystery, twists and turns and kept me on my toes. Kale and Aleksi - Whew! HOT couple alert.
You really were given a look into what makes Kale himself - how he came to be a model. It helped to know his character, his motivation and it also helped to build his relationship with Aleksi.

While you don't know too much about Aleksi, the fact that he shares so much of himself with Kale - you see the softer side of the Saber Tooth Tiger. Aleksi's dominant side takes over in order to protect Kale.

The relationship between Kale and Aleksi is a beautiful one - balanced, with just enough intrigue.

There is really not a lot to say about this book, other than it was hot, a great story and I can't wait to read the next book!

This book had it all, romance, mystery and a lot of action. It was well written with a great plot. I love books that turn into series, that keep you hooked to read more about the characters involved in a business, in this case it's the Shifter Protection Specialists.
Kale and Aleksi were the main character in this book. Aleksi was a shifter bodyguard who was to protect Kale. Their story was exciting and even had me laughing at times.
My favorite line was "I hope you don't have a problem with cats." It was a very moving love story wrapped up with an intense plot.Epilogue indicated who the next book is going to be about. There could be so many good stories coming from this group and I look forward to reading more about the
Shifter Protection Specalists. An excellent read.

Original Blog Post: eARC Review: Purrfect Protector (Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. #1) by S.A. Welsh

Don't shoot me, but I really found this a cute little story even if the subject matter is one humongous sabre toothed tiger and a male model who was larger than life. Oh, and there was the stalker who just would not give up.

So Kale Andrews receives not just a disturbing mail from a stalkerish fan, he receives an eye in a box. His brother, who also is his boss and agent, takes the mail as it is, dangerous, and so hires a protection agency staffed by shifters. ..... brakes! yes, this is alternative universe where shape shifters live openly and alongside humans....

As the subject of a stalking, Kale is not really feeling the danger until he meets Aleksi, the six foot ten ginormous hunky hunk of a man who is now his body guard. Although it should scare him, this sabre tooth tiger does not and so makes Aleksi stop to reconsider his initial frustration and think that maybe, Kale is his mate? He's not sure but his tiger is purring....

Thing is, there is the usual primeval cry of MINE! in the claiming thingy, but the story does not follow the formula. The author instead chose to give the two men involved the chance to step back and reconsider their circumstance and take things slowly. They have to make sure. I mean, yeah, I would too if the tiger goes on its hind legs and reach the second floor. Plus, think: smaller man, bigger man with big (make that: massive) parts. But I digress...

Now why did I like this? It's strange but I did find this a cute story and there were a lot of lighthearted parts that sent me to giggle-land. (I am with TracyG. on this one :D) Also, the writing style is so relaxed it was surprising to find I had reached the end.

And wow, that was a beautiful set up if I may say so.

Yes, I am definitely following this series. I am curious now what happens next.

Kale has a stalker, who starts out slow and builds up to truly creepy and dangerous. When he gets sent an animal eyeball, his brother/manager finally calls in the big guns for protection. They go to Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. There Kale meets Aleski. Aleski is a huge man, but then he has to be since he is a saber-tooth tiger.

I loved Aleski right from the start. How cool to have a saber-tooth tiger shifter. At first, I was not really drawn to Kale as he had the cool diva act down pat. But as the story goes on he warms up and it’s revealed he hides himself from the world in general and only lets his brother in. As the two MCs deal with a progressively more dangerous stalker, Kale and Aleski get closer and learn about each other. For the first time Aleski has someone who is not afraid of his animal and Kale deals with letting someone in behind his walls.

This was an alternative world set up where shifters are part of society, but are still looked at as suspect and dangerous by many. This whole book pulled me in from the start. I was always waiting for the next something to happen. Whether it was a snarky comment, to see what the stalker would pull next, some funny situation, or some loving. The world built was interesting and well described without distracting from the overall story. It was fast paced with a good mix of action and scenes with the MCs and their growing relationship.

I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. It looks like that will be an interesting and exciting ride too.

Pretty is as pretty does or is it? In SA Welsh’s Purrfect Protectorwill Aleksi be able to look past Kale’s profession to see the man behind the pretty face? Can Kale learn to trust Aleksi to protect not only his body but his heart as well? Kale maybe a top male model but he knows it is fleeting and he intends to milk his popularity while he can. He will not allow some sick fan to control his actions or cause him to live in fear. But for his brother’s peace of mind he will hire protection. Aleksi would rather handle anything other than protect an empty but pretty head, but is Kale as fake as Aleksi assumes. Kale turned Aleksi’s head in more than one way. He was down to earth in spite of the world he inhabited. I enjoyed seeing Kale, someone who on his face would appear to be uber confident, instead find himself tongue tied by Aleksi. He isn’t quite sure what to make of his bodyguard but he knows Aleksi trips ever trigger he has. With Kale’s body on board you would think convincing Kale they have a future would be easy for Aleksi but both men are afraid to commit. Neither is comfortable believing a relationship started under these conditions has a chance of success. But as danger winds ever closer, Aleksi and Kale must learn to trust in each other. Ms. Welsh kept us on edge waiting to see if they would embrace each other before a stalker takes away their choices. This was a well written and enjoyable quick read. I am looking forward to seeing who Ms. Welsh will provide love and protection via the Shifter Protection Specialist Inc.

Well, this was a tad bit disappointing... but not a bad read! Aleksi and Kale, a big bad cat and a stunning model are brought together in a fairly predictable manner... and the story that ensues is more entertaining at some points than others... but overall the story worked for me, but I found the preview for the next book in this series to be much more promising... so I am sure that I will be watching for it to be released!!!

I really enjoyed this one, its my first Sabre-Tooth Tiger shifter story. Its funny, sexy, fluffy and easy to read. I can easily see myself rereading this one in the future if I am in the mood for some light hearted and angst free fun.

The bad guy was slightly blah blah blah and unbelievable but the action was okay and I could just unplug and enjoy reading.

3.01 stars. Only because after all the huffin' and puffin' I don't get to find out what happens to the friggin' psycho crazed stalker and I didn't get to friggin find out his name... wtf "the not-berry" guy was called that throughout the rest of the book. Lame, but I got my daily dose of hot sexy shifter guy that was 6feet 10 inches tall with a big huge @%&*# and nice muscles! shallow? nah!

Great shifter story! Will definitely read the next one. The action kept the book interesting and the "mine" kept it sweet. Instalove played a part here, but I'm not mad at it - a possessive saber-toothed tiger is a hot saber-toothed tiger.

I would have gone with 4 stars but for the editing problems.
