Sometimes the best thing that can happen to someone happens in the middle of a crisis.
Derick is running from his pack, his family. He has to, if he wants to save innocent people. His Alpha is planning an attack on the Whitedell Pride, and he can’t let it happen. Sure, he knows he will probably have to pay a price for his betrayal, but he is ready to do it. He hadn’t thought his price would be a good one, until he finds his mate in the pride.
Nate is the pride’s Beta, and as Beta, he has to follow the unspoken rules that exist in the shifter community. He wasn’t looking for a mate, and he certainly didn’t think his mate would be a wolf shifter. Not that he has anything against wolf shifters, but this one brings way too many problems with him.
Derick’s Alpha knows what he has done, and he plans to make him pay. When Derick is kidnapped, Nate has to decide if he wants to play by the rules and risk his mate, or if he’s going to save Derick, risking a justified attack from the pack.
Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters. She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back. She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.
Re-read July 2018 I'm totally into this series again.

These are pure comfort reads. I love them.
Derick is a wolf shifter who has run away from his pack. He goes to warn the feline shifter pack that his old alpha wants to attack. He is also hoping they are friendly enough to either let him stay or go his own way. But what do you know, he meets his mate when he arrives at the cat house!
Nate is a gruff man and not really expecting a wolf as his mate. But of course he cannot help himself, he wants Derick any way he can get him.
There is claiming, biting, hot shifter sex, hurt/comfort (the smaller mate always gets either kidnapped and/or beaten in these books), and a lovely HEA.
This was book 2 in the "Whitedell Pride" series and a really good book. Derick Teague who is a member of "The Gillham Pack" where he hears Alpha Walter Erskine and his inner circle plan to attack the pride so he runs and tells the pride alpha Dominic what he heard. This was a really good read while in Dominic's office he meets his mate the Alpha's Beta Nate. Nate is a hot sexy jaguar shifter and he never thought that he would meet his mate he is not use to opening up to other's he always has to be in control in the bedroom and out. The Pride knows that they can't turn Derick over to the pack so they come up with a plan to keep him and because he is Nate's mate when they tell the wolf pack's betas they don't believe them so Nate and Derick have to mate sooner then Derick wants to. The sex between these two were hot and I really liked how Jamie and his brother Keenan befriended Derick. When they go dancing the pack kidnaps Derick and he is beaten and almost raped until his brother Duncan helps the pride members get him out. The pack also attacks the pride and are beaten the alpha and his beta run off and leave the wounded and dead pack member behind including Zach who is almost killed by Nate. Turns out Alpha Erskine told the pack members that the pride wanted to attack them. This was the book that introduced Kameron when Nate Derick and Zach convinces him to challenge the Alpha after Kameron wins they find out that the former Alpha was selling shifter's to a lab and had plans to sell Derick and Zach. This was a pretty good book and series so far. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
So I stumbled upon these after reading another Charlie Richards book and realized this is another series involving shifters and their fated mates...
Unfortunately, Leivens' writing tends to lack a bit of Richards' charm. Don't get me wrong, they're enjoyable, but they really start to lose steam quickly, so while I've read more than fifty of Richards' books, I've read five of Lievens', and I'm not sure I care whether or not I read any more.
On top of all that, these all seem like they were run through a translator and then not double checked for accuracy. The mixing up of conjunctions and prepositions smacks of English as a second language. Plus, there's just bizarre wording, both in this book and in subsequent works, that makes me think Lievens isn't entirely comfortable with English.
"…he was Derick's dream coming true."
"…talking with Duncan would help him sorting everything out."
"To say that Vince and Hank hadn't taken it well was a euphemism."
Weird shit like that made the text awkward to read. Still, if you're a fan of Charlie Richards, you might get a little thrill out of these low-angst paranormal romps.
Honestly i don't know if I want to comtinue reading this series. I was being stubborn and reading the other 2 series in this universe but I am really frustrated and bored with these books. I have read Demon Heart and it is so much better reading material then these 3 series.
I was provided with one copy of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest review. Review posted on Nautical Star Books.
Derick is the second book in the Whitedell Pride Series. I did not read the first book in the series and was able to enjoy this book anyhow. Reading the first book in the series will give you a better understanding of some of the characters but Derick works fine as a stand alone book.
We are introduced to Derick as he is fleeing his pack to warn the neighboring cat pride of an impending attack. Derick fully knows that abandoning his pack and turning traitor will probably mean certain death but he can’t sit by and do nothing while the innocent cat pride is attacked. He isn’t the bravest or the strongest wolf but he does have morals.
Nate is the Whitedell Pride’s Beta and the minute Derick shows up he knows he has found his destined mate. It is a little surprising that his mate seems to be a wolf shifter but the pride is full of unusual matings so he doesn’t think twice about claiming him. Keeping Derick safe from his old alpha and protecting the pride from impending attack leave very little time to get to know his new mate but they manage to heat up the sheets as well as fall in love amidst all the chaos.
I really enjoyed reading Derick and the author did a good job of balancing character development, plot, sex, and relationship. There is an instantaneous “MINE” when the main characters meet and they consummate their relationship immediately to protect Derick from being forced to return to his pack. However this isn’t really an instalove sort of book. The main character have a lot going on outside of getting to know each other. The whole ‘falling in love’ thing takes a bit of a back seat but they are happy to fall in bed occasionally and get to know each other physically.
There is plenty of plot and angst to keep the story moving. I genuinely liked both main characters and there were a number of well written secondary characters. If you like sexy shifters and an engaging plot I think you will really enjoy reading Derick!

Summary:
Derek lived in a pack where he was verbally and physically abused. Even his parents wanted him gone. The only thing that kept him there was his brother Dominic until the night he overheard their alpha's plan to attack the Whitedell Pack. Derek snuck away running to the Whitedell Pack in hoping that they would even believe him, but he never expected to find Nate, his mate. Nate lived to protect his pack without any emotional baggage until Derek arrived. After years of abuse Derek had a hard time accepting he was safe, but when his old pack returned Nate and Derek have to work together to protect their pack. This was a wild ride from the beginning with new and old characters who come to life as the story unfolded.
Pretty much everyone in the Gillham wolf pack barely tolerates Derick Teague because he’s gay. If it wasn’t for the love of his older brother Duncan the young wolf would probably have left long ago and been labeled a rogue. Since no one paid attention to him it was easy to accidentally overhear Alpha Walter Erskine and his inner circle plan to overthrow the Whitedell pride and take their land.
Feeling empathy toward the innocent pride members Derick abandons his home to warn the cat shifters. Alpha Dominic luckily believes his story. Standing in the Alpha’s office with his jaguar Beta Nate, the cat and the wolf scent each other as mates. To Derick’s way of thinking a dog and a cat don’t bond, but he’s willing to think about it.
Their mating shoots into high gear when the wolf Alpha demands Derick’s return and they all know what that would mean. Tensions run high between the pack and the pride as shifter laws are tested. Some take advantage and others outright bend the rules. It’s a tug of war with Derick and Nate right in the middle. Without help their mating doesn’t stand a chance.
Another intense adventure for the Whitedell Pride with Derick, the second book in the series. A wolf tries to do the right thing for another group of shifters and all hell breaks loose. Derick and Nate’s romance takes a back seat to the machinations of a dishonorable Alpha. The young wolf hides a more than tender heart, worried that his stoic suitor will ultimately break him. Derick deserves every bit of happiness from his uptight jaguar. Ultimately they will find a way. This delightful series is becoming addictive.

As with the first book of the series, while the feline shifter MC is literally roaring “mine” and all but pissing up his mate’s leg to mark his claim, the non-feline MC is not so quick to fall in line. Derick has lived beneath the harsh rule of his parents and his alpha his whole life. Now that he has escaped he isn’t keen to commit himself to a mate he doesn’t know. And I kind of like that about this series. The shifters who think they can simply call dibs on their mate and bam, they’re in a relationship are told – na ah, if you want me you’ve gotta make an effort and date me first.
Original review on Molly Lolly Four and a half stars! could not put this book down. I enjoyed the first book in this series. But this book just kept going! Derick and Nate were in a tough situation when they met and realized they were mates. However they made the most of it. It was great watching them get to know each other and to see Nate come out of his shell. We got to see Jamie and Ward some and see they’re still happy. Plus we see more of other members of the pride. This series is so good I keep wanting to know what happens next with other characters and hoping they get a happy ending. There were some shocking things revealed about the laboratory plot that was introduced in the first book. I’m excited for the third book to come out at the beginning of December!
Another fun book in this series, 3.5 stars and rounded up. I liked the characters and I like that there was more story to this than some of the other typical shifter-mate-instalove-MINE! type of stories there are out right now. I enjoyed the writing, the minimal angst, the action, and characters. Will definitely keep up with this series!
I can't help but think when Keenan will be taken care of...
Most of this I enjoyed. A wolf tangling with a jaguar. Nate, being beta, I didn't always get his hangups on the control issue. That wasn't really explored. But with the conclusion of this particular book and the events of the wolf pack, I'm questioning what may arise next as an issue between mates.
I want to apologize to Catherine I didn't know I didn't leave a review I'm sorry but your book was great Nd I can't wait to read the next one in this series wtg ...
Yay the next one in the series is available!! Just as good as the first one. Quick easy entertaining read with some angst and sexy shifters, yeah can;t get better than that :)
