Kelsey is starting her first year of law school at Darrow in Seattle. Since she was a little girl she’s dreamed of skipping up the steps outside a court house, dressed in a smart suit and carrying a briefcase. If she can only get through the intensity of several years as a student at the best law school in the US, she’ll finally be in a position to make her dream come true. It won’t be easy: one third of the first year students will fail.

When a book is called ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ I have certain expectations. Obviously, I expect there to be at least one billionaire, and I also expect romance. This book gets one star for having at least one billionaire, although since each rich boy is born into wealth I’m not certain whether it actually counts. That spooky cover, with the headless guy may have been trying to tell me that there’s no actual billionaire hero here at all. There’s about zero romance going on here. Kelsey meet cutes her potential love interest at the 30% mark, but I don’t rate their chemistry much above friendship. Since this is the first in the series maybe it’ll heat up between them at some stage. This was the freebie in the series, so possibly it’s just there to get me interested and I’ll have to pay if I want the good stuff, but lack of romance isn’t this book’s only fault: it’s just plain boring.

The book starts out with Kelsey and her parents on the ferry from their home town to Seattle. Kelsey’s mother is cold and won’t come outside. She sends Kelsey’s dad out with a hot chocolate for Kelsey. The family get into their car and drive through Seattle to Darrow. They turn left and right on streets and roads. There’s a lot of traffic at 3:00 pm. Or maybe, coming from a small town, they’re just not accustomed to driving in a big city. It takes half an hour to get from the gates of the college to the campus buildings, with all the other cars dropping off students.

The level of specificity in this book would be chilling … if it was actually going anywhere. Fiction has taught me that, if you spend time lulling me with a lot of detail, a big devastating plot is about to hit and destroy the protagonist’s nicely laid out future plans. I was expecting death. I was expecting trauma, and a sudden jump of three years with Kelsey now working a low paid job and all stuck and sad, until a chance encounter with a handsome stranger started turning her back onto her path to success. Or something like that. Instead, the book just handed me more unrelenting detail. Meeting her roommate. Getting to classes. Getting split into groups. Introductions to the Socratic method. Buying or renting textbooks from Amazon, because they cost $1600 at the campus bookshop. It just went on and on.

There is some plot. It comes under the heading of ‘bad things that happen to other people, making them a statistic you occasionally read articles about.’ There is almost no characterisation. At varying points in the book Kelsey is embarrassed, angered, frustrated and sorrowful. She doesn’t really do anything with these emotions, other than restate her ambition to make it through law school.

I have nothing against reading about college life. I just don’t like books where no one is interesting, and nothing interesting happens. For anyone who is planning to go to Darrow, this book might have some useful information. Like: where to find a cupcake bakery, and that it’s best to go out for Thai food when its chicken pot pie day in the cafeteria. If this book had been titled ‘Starting school at Darrow’ it would have been accurate.

Not really worth the time to read

I read this book all the way through searching for the plot and really never found one. As far as the authors writing style I would say it was alright. She goes into great detail describing in detail some of the lecture of the professors and rambling of the main character and her friend.
Kelsey is starting her first year a law but by the the way the characters talked you would have thought they just graduated from high school. I was so tempted to put the book down but for some reason I kept hoping for more.
This is not a romance novel it is is a long drawn out story of a young girl's first semester at a very difficult college and the stress it causes. I will not be looking to read this book ever again. I know that is harsh but it was absolutely not my cup of tea.

Slow and drowning in minutia. Much of this book is focused on the tiny details of life that have absolutely NO CONNECTION to the plotline (e.g., in the very beginning, Kelsey and her parents are driving to her law school and details about the trip, such as buckling seatbelts, are carefully described in such a way that you think the scene is being set for an auto accident. Nope. They're just driving to school. Nothing to see here, folks.) These details don't advance the plot. Rather, they slow the pace of this novel incredibly. I kept waiting for the novel to get to the good part, but halfway through the book, I was still waiting.

The "romance" isn't anything substantial, more like a near miss, and towards the end, when you think something good might happen, the novel ends. Characters are written out and the novel just ends. I was hugely disappointed.

I loved this book and have read all of this series just waiting on the new one. I love the dynamics between Kelsey, Tyler, Ryan, and Jessica. The little bit of Zach is nice too. I totally think this series would make an awesome tv show.

This is the first book by Cara Miller and personally I disliked both the writing and the story. Firstly I have no idea why this book is called Billionaire Boys Club because there are no billionaires, but just some spoilt boys who most probably won't inherit their parents fortune. Once you start reading the book, you will find that the male lead characters are only introduced properly half way through the book which is one of the main reasons why the book is unable to catch and keep your attention. The worst part of the book is that there is barely any romance in the story which means the series title Billionaire Romance was misleading. The writing was poor and the charters were not well conceived and I especially felt that there was too much law jargon in the book for the average reader. I really do hope that Cara Miller improves her writing as she has a lot of potential.

Real

As a former law student, I could relate to the text and found it very believable (but for the mandatory living in dorms thing- that was odd to me). I have never lived in the northwest but I imagine that aspect is probably spot on too. I like the story line and find it to be well written but don't like how slowly the "romance" moves. In all fairness the slowness of the main characters romance does make it more believable and adds to the charm but makes you want to keep buying the next novel to see if they finally hook up and even then it still isn't as fast as you want...

The Billionaire Boys Club: Billionaire Romance series Book 1 is by Cara Miller. The series is about young men and women who are attending Barrow Law School in Seattle, Washington. These young people come from all walks of life and from colleges across the nation. Only the brightest are taken as students here. However, the college is definitely expensive so many of the students are among the wealthy, although some are there with financial aid. Will they survive the rigors of Barrow to become lawyers or will they fail? Only the brightest and fiercest survive.
Kelsey North was excited to begin her law classes. She had worked hard to get to Darrow and intended to make the most of the chance. She and her roommate, Jessica Hunter, hit it off from the first and worked well together. Kelsey also knew Dylan Shaw who had gone to Portland State with her, so at least she knew someone. The first day at the dorm, she and Jessica ran into Brandon Martin and Matt Hudson who both were jerks to them. Dylan later told them that Matt was his roommate and that they belonged to a group of five very wealthy young men. The five were Brandon, Matt, Zachary Payne, Ryan Perkins, and Tyler Olsen. Tyler’s Mother and Ryan’s Father had built a multibillion dollar business together. Brandon, Matt, and Zachary’s parents worked for them in one way or another. Their attitudes did not make a good impression n Kelsey and Jessica at first. However, they sat beside them in class and were paired off with them for legal writing. They had to get along or run the risk of failing.
Their first class, Civil Procedures, made them think they were in the wrong place as they didn’t understand anything the professor said. Jessica found an outline online which at least gave them a little reference. It also made them more determined than ever to study hard so they could stay at Darrow. In the second class, Jessica and Matt sat beside each other while Kelsey sat next to Tyler, Zachary and Ryan. She thought it would be a long year.
What connections would the eight law students make as they progressed through the year? Which students would end up being picked on by the professors in their individual classes? How many of the 185 students would still be in the class by December?

As a stand-alone, this book was not it for me. The book started off good, introducing the characters and giving a little background on them. I enjoyed their first few days of law school & apprecitiated how overwhelming it seemed. But when classes started, I ended up skipping a bit because of the legal lexicon the author used. Then there was the relationship between Kelsey and Dylan... Kelsey made it very clear they were JUST friends and make a couple references to Dylan's relationship history. But I would have loved to know a lot more about their history. It was almost as if something did happen and they immediately regretted crossing that line. And did he all of a sudden pick up a bad drinking habit or did he just hide it more carefully before. IDK. And Tyler.... I just kept reading, wanting something to happen between Kelsey and Tyler.
I just feel that there were a lot of story lines that started and the ending was just a let down because none of them were explored.

Really not worth the time or trouble to read. There is no plot and really not even a story. All about kids going through their first year of law school and their goings on, which really are of little interest. Then, of course, you get to go through the mall, up the elevator to this store and that and then down the elevator to more stores, comments on cute this and cute that. Really, I need to go on a shopping trip in a mall with a couple of young girls like I need a hole in the head. The whole thing was so mundane, it was actually pathetic.
The blog on this book most certainly did not give any indication of what the book is really about - which is nothing.
I will certainly steer clear of this series, which is erroneously called a Romance Series (what romance) and more particularly this author.

Life isn't easy

A group of law students were struggling to make it through. Thankfully, Kelsey had chosen early morning trips to the gym to help her cope with the stress. Unfortunately, Dylan chose alcohol and ended up quitting school to go to rehab. Kelsey, who was now very level headed, had struggled in her teens and knew how great the struggle would be for her friend. She was thankful for Tyler who kept reminding her that you don't have to handle the problems of life alone. Relax and walk the path with the students.

Obsessed with jackets

Nearly one third of the way through the book and the love interests have yet to be introduced, yet I know exactly what and how much outerwear each character has, when and if they wear them and when they get hot or cold and need to take them on and off. After one of the characters got excited and hugged her new fleece, I just started skimming the book searching for some sign of a plot, but I gave up.

Great story

This would have had 5 stars except for the fact of the cliff hanger, now, I don't normally complain at a cliffhanger but I was really feeling these characters, I didn't want it to end there, how could it? the story wasn't finished, I really need to know more so I am getting book 2, I really enjoyed this story, it was playing in my head like a movie, which is always a good sign, recommend to anyone who wants a good story but be warned cliffhanger alert.....

I read a lot but, I found that this book was written very well. The characters were well rounded and I could connect to them. Going to Law School was a very big part of their lives but, there was some relationships, Romance & Friends. There were a few things that happened at Darrow that upset the lives of others. Overall it was a very good book & I would definitely recommend this book! I’m sure that Princess, Jessica, Ashley, Troy & Dylan would appreciate you reading & reviewing this book!

I don't know what tot say about this book. On the one hand, it held my interest and really made you feel like you were there with these students, understanding them, and living their lives. On the other hand, this book was really in need of a good editor to "tighten it up" a bit. There were too many instances of "space filler" text. But, this book did draw me into the lives of these characters, and, yes, I am interested in seeing what happens to them next.

Might have been free but it definitely did not tempt me to purchase anything from this author. An obvious first novel, full of boring and mundane daily descriptions of life. The so called torn between two men was resolved way too quickly and done poorly. Not to mention the fact that the book was written more like a too long prologue than a story.

The billionaire boys club

This was a surprisingly good story. I've read many billionaire themed novels and this is the first book that had substance/grit. I would have given a higher rating if it had ended with closure regarding the exams and Dylan. I wonder if Dylan returns in the next installment?

I only read 49% of the book. It sounded like a romance in the blurb, but so far no romance to be seen or felt. The book just explained how that law school works in very great detail, and that breakfast lunch and dinner was eaten every day. Just really boring.
I went to check some reviews to see if it will get better, but it doesn’t sound like it, so I gave up on the book.

**** Cliffhanger warning!! ****
I was under the impression this was a romance book but to me, it wasn't at all. It was about kids and their days at law school. Nothing exciting happened, no real plot or twists and even the conversations were a bore.
even though it ends as a cliffhanger, I won't bother with going forward.

Beginnings

This was a great start to see how different people both from money and some who go to Law school in scholarship. But Kelsey has dreams, her roommate Jessica is as lost as she is and her friend from college Dylan is lost also. Then you have the guys who's families are billionaires are all different.

This first book is random and the plot is very much lost. Much of this is like the work out of choice for Kelsey which is running on the treadmill, it keeps going, but in the end you didn’t actually go anywhere. I am not sure what the point of this book is or what Kelsey’s role is and I am not interested in finding out.

Romance or Intro to law school

Maybe I misread summary of this book bit I thought it was a romance. All I got from this was a story about first half of year of 1L law students.
So I guess if you want to know what starting law school might be like....read this book.

"Paper Chase" revisited

If you love stories about law school you will enjoy this story. To finish the story you need to read the next books. I liked the characters but thought sometimes there was too much description and not a enough action.

Not as bad as I thought

I’m giving this two stars because it’s not for me, but the story is overall not bad, it’s sweet In parts and clichéd in others another’s but for the right people this could be a great story

Great Writing

This is definitely not a stand alone book. There are 30 books in the series. Book two is 99¢. However the rest of the books three thru 30 cost $2.99 each. Books appear to less than 300 pages each. Series total over $80.00 which in my opinion is not worth it

Brooding Boys Mysteries

I liked this story though, I would have loved this book so much more if it would have been shortened. There are also stories/characters that would have been removed. I however genuinely liked Kelsey and Tyler.
