Mary Dublin was born and raised in the heart of Florida and has had a passion for storytelling since childhood. Her love for words began at a young age, where she found solace in books that transported her to fantastical worlds and inspired her to begin dreaming of her own stories.
After completing her Bachelor's degree in Character Animation/Emerging Media, Mary went on to pursue a career in communications and take on her dream of becoming a writer. With her unique style of writing, Mary's books are a blend of aching romance, heart-pounding drama, and suspense. Her characters are flawed, complex, and leave a lasting impression on her readers.
Apart from writing, Mary is a passionate traveler, and her experiences in different parts of the world inspire elements in her novels. When she's not writing, she can be found practicing yoga, trying new hiking trails, or curled up with a good book on a rainy day.
This series is such a comfort read for me, even when it's making me cry and stress over characters I've grown so utterly attached to. It's one of the only series I can dive back into without rereading the previous books first because everything just stays with me. I can fall right back into this world and these people like no time has passed.
If you loved Supernatural as a comfort watch, this series will absolutely work for you. It's not denying what it is. It's an homage to two characters we all adored, but that doesn't mean it pulls its punches. That show was at its best when it was emotional. And this never shies away from complex emotions and complex relationships, and this installment goes even deeper into character growth than the first two while staying just as fun. I'm also excited that we get attached to a whole new set of characters here alongside the ones I already love.
We get more answers to mysteries that have been simmering since the start, plus more insight into Cliff, and I'm still genuinely unsure how to read his dynamic with Sylvia. Deeply attached platonic friends? Something more underneath it? He's got flirtation happening elsewhere too, but honestly his chemistry with both Jon and Sylv is so much stronger. I'll be happy with wherever this goes, but it's ripe for a throuple since the boys aren't brothers.
Best book in the series yet!
Thank you to the authors for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
I have to wait until 2027 for the next book!! That cliffhanger!! Ahhhh!!!
The crew is back at it again. This time they are called to an opulent hotel in Aspen. An SOS sent by their mentor sends them on a mission where much is revealed. The crew teams up with an unorthodox trio much like their own, no matter the protests from the hunters. No worries, they all become besties eventually. Cliff comes face to face with his past. A villain rises from the dead. The hunters are betrayed. Secrets are revealed and loved ones reunited. A wish is granted and then, boom!! Literally.
Welcome to the Crimson Gala!! We are guaranteed to give you nightmares with our sinister carnival games and please don't miss or auction of rare items. Please avoid the storage room, the luggage might eat you.
Thank you to the author for this gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review.
evidently this series is not ending on a 3-book note and there will be a fourth (and possibly more???) which is unfortunate because it means i have to continue reading out of investment for the plot.
the writing is okay. it's better than most books in this same genre, where it's a very in-your-head wattpad style of narration. this flows better, but it's still not great, and we've really nosedived since book 1. book 1 was really fun and enjoyable, which is what made me press on, but it's just gotten worse, in my opinion. which sucks! i had hopes it'd get better, but sylvia's characterization has suffered. she feels so infantilized and i'm not a fan. i'm also just not buying in on fairies just using human swears all the time like... not a big fan!
i also really hoped, as i said about book 2, this would turn into a why-choose romance because i really liked the development between cliff and sylvia but toward the end of the book, it seems like a love interest for cliff is being introduced. i could be wrong, who knows! but cliff/sylvia would be cute ughhhh.
i'm also not a big fan of the way sylvia's father was introduced. it felt rushed, and the whole talk toward the end felt anticlimactic. i also don't understand why sylvia was mad at HIM and not her mom, who was clearly in on the secret all along, and it's evident why her father wouldn't have been able to contact her to explain. like, sylvia's characterization is inconsistent.
i also just hate the constant mention of the "spectral plane" and it being their "private sanctuary," like... it just felt so cringey man. gave me the ick.
i will unfortunately be back for book 4. please let that be the last one.
also just. books like these would always benefit from being written in 3rd person pov.
3.5⭐️ a little slow to start but action packed second half!! Love all of the new characters that have been introduced and curious where the story will go after that cliffhanger
ENG In this sequel, we find ourselves in a setting that moves away from forests and nature, delving into a lavish gala rife with corruption, a more expanded lore, and non-stop action. I loved the new characters, especially Delilah, a witch with a tragic past, her boyfriend Lee, a former thief, and Ben, a powerful fairy with a heartbreaking story. Amidst the action and plot twists, I noticed the story's prominent allegories about power and self-determination, and how the powerful treat those they perceive as different.
Another thing I enjoyed was how several characters, mainly Jon and some of the new ones, find themselves in situations where their beliefs and values are tested, which reminded me a lot of Daredevil, where Matt Murdock constantly struggles between his faith, his beliefs, and the brutality of Hell's Kitchen. Dublin and Kendsley are the queens of writing addictive and easy-to-read books; chapter 1 quickly becomes chapter 20. My goal for this book was 15 pages a day, and more than once, I ended up unable to put it down. I admit that at the beginning it was a little difficult, but around 40%, the story started to pick up, and suddenly it became SO good, and the plot twists were so juicy that you had to practically pry my Kindle out of my hands.
I know I keep recommending this series, but it's because I absolutely love it. There's romance, but it's not the main plot, nor is it the typical "happily ever after." It's complicated and intense, and the action takes center stage. Lured in the Crimson comes out on June 18th, so take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the first three installments of this highly promising series.
Thank you, Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley, for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
First of all, I want to thank the authors for sending me an ARC of this book.
I finished last month reading the first two books in this series, and now I'm starting a new month with this one, continuing the adventure of Sylvia, Jon, and Cliff.
As a Supernatural fan, these books have that same addictive ability to pull you into the adventure. They also have the added effect of making me afraid of losing one of the main characters or seeing something happen that makes them suffer. I’m already far too attached to them to allow that.
There’s a clear character development that began in Shot in the Dark, and I really like the direction it’s taking.
Compared to the previous books, this third installment is packed with action and plot twists that left me speechless more than once.
We also get a lot more of Cliff, which is exactly what I wanted. Even though I’m a Jon girlie, I can’t help starting to feel like I might end up becoming a Cliff girlie too.
I definitely need the next book because the ending left me wanting more. Plus, several new characters were introduced, and I absolutely need to know more about them. If Supernatural taught me anything, it’s that you shouldn’t trust every new character the moment they appear. You need to give them time, see more of them, and then decide whether you trust them or not. That’s exactly what I want to do with these characters.
I’ll keep saying it: these books are not for readers looking for a paranormal romance. They’re books for readers who want an action-packed adventure full of monsters, plot twists, and a little romance—but not just any romance. A forbidden one with a long road ahead.
The series Shot in the Dark just keeps getting better and better. With each installment, Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley give readers wonderful character growth, action, adventure, fantasy, and this time around, new characters that I need to know more about. Lured in Crimson is book 3 of this series and an absolute gem of a book. You do need to read the first 2 before this one, but this series and authors are completely worth the time you will give them. These authors pull you in and don’t let go, leaving you with an ending that makes you want more immediately.
If you enjoy the show Supernatural, you will enjoy this series. Two MMCs, Jon and Cliff, give total Winchester brother vibes, each bringing in their own special abilities and pasts that add to the depths of their characters. These two have been wonderful throughout this series and every book Mary and Anne give readers a deeper look into both of them. I find myself rooting for them, while wanting to hug them. Add in Sylvia to this group, and I cannot get enough.
As an avid fantasy reader, I know better than to fall in love with new characters right away. I mean, come on, IYKYK! Because of this, I feel like I am reading them with one foot in and one foot out. I don’t know if they will be loved or not yet, but am excited to get to know them more. BUT having to wait a year to get more of them will have me anxious until then. They add great dynamics to this book, but definitely leave room to go be loved or hated.
Mary and Anne know how to keep their readers captivated. With twists and turns throughout, I know better than to get comfortable while reading their stories. Each story takes us deeper, reveals more layers, and sets up our characters for amazing growth and adventure. With each new release they show their talent for writing, character development, and world building skills. If you have not read this series yet or anything by these authors, I implore you to take the time to do so. You will quickly find yourself with a new favorite author to add to your TBR and worlds you love to visit.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🖤Paranormal Romance 🏹Forbidden Love Romance 🖤Enemies to Lovers 🏹Found Family 🖤Monsters x Fairies 🏹Sam and Dean Winchester Vibes
Lured in the Crimson is the kind of third installment that doesn’t just raise the stakes—it rips the floor out from under you and dares you to keep up. Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley deliver a breathtaking, high‑stakes descent into illusion, danger, and desire that had me clinging to every page like a lifeline.
On the cusp of reaching Aelthorin, Sylvia, Jon, and Cliff are thrown violently off course when a desperate message from their mentor, Tammy, pulls them deep into the Aspen mountains. What they find is a gilded hotel dripping in glamour and lies—a place where nothing is what it seems, and everyone is playing a role. A conman with a silver tongue, a witch with secrets in her smile, and a timid glamour fairy pull them into a mission that feels impossible: sabotage the infamous Crimson Gala, where the nation’s elite quietly traffic in monsters, magic, and the kind of power that corrupts everything it touches.
And at the center of it all waits Eros—a collector whose cruelty is matched only by his obsession with supernatural relics and the beings he cages. His presence turns every moment razor‑sharp.
This book shines brightest in its character unraveling. Cliff’s past comes roaring back with devastating clarity, forcing him to confront truths he’s spent years burying. Sylvia’s arc is nothing short of magnetic—her pull toward a gemstone that could unite her with Jon or destroy them both is a perfect blend of yearning, fear, and fate. And Jon… his quiet devotion and internal war make every shared moment between them feel like a spark in a powder keg.
The tension is relentless. The emotional stakes are brutal. The found family threads are richer than ever. And the themes—identity, sacrifice, forbidden love—hit with the force of a spell you can’t shake.
This is urban romantasy at its finest: cinematic, feral, and beautifully human beneath all the magic. Fans of Supernatural, Fern Gully, and romantasies with teeth will devour this installment.
Lured in the Crimson doesn’t just continue the Shot in the Dark series—it ELEVATES it!
This is the third book in the Shot in the Dark series and while I was a tad impatient, it was beyond worth the wait. This series tells the story of a tiny fairy (think Crysta from Fern Gulley or Tink) who finds herself alongside two monster hunters (Think Sam and Dean Winchester). As the story continues, these two authors take these characters (and us readers) on a journey of love, hurt, betrayals, deception, and healing.
In this story, our trio of main characters find themselves at a black tie heist. We are introduced to a few new characters and have reunion with some previous characters. Some we love, some we love to hate. The action scenes had me tapping my kindle so hard I was flipping multiple pages at once lol. You’ll find your jaw on the floor at the unexpected twists and reveals. I was so angry at one point, I was mentally drafting an email to the authors demanding to know why that plot point existed because how dare they? And then the cliffhanger at the end? These two know how to write a story to keep you coming back for more.
This book was (so far) my favorite of the three. While all three are top tier urban fantasy books, this one really pulled at my heart strings. The way they delved into the emotions of some of the characters really hurt my heart. While the banter is still there, and a certain Hollywood star cameo had me laughing, this book felt deeper emotionally and it was beautifully constructed. This series just keeps getting better and I am here for ride.
Thank you to the authors for allowing me to be an arc reader again. I cannot wait for this book to be released to the world.
No spoilers here. I love this series. I read this book in less than a day because it was so good. I started this series because of an ad on IG claiming it to be a "mix of FernGully and Supernatural" and woooo boy was that a perfect description. Sylvia's (Faerie) dynamic and growth as a character and the growth of both Jon and Cliff (humans) has been a painful and great ride. The developing romance (not spicy) and the evolution of friendship among the trio has been great, despite the frustration of Cliff's reluctance to trust anyone. This latest installment is no exception. Their little chosen (forced) family is REALLY going through it in this one. The appearance and reveal of the identity of the "Eros" character was NOT something I expected until it happened. (I LOATHE him) I think my new favorite characters in this book were Roisin (naimh) (despite her short appearance) and Delilah (witch). I'd love more backstory on the Lee/Delilah/Ben situation. (Possible novella? Bonus chapters? Stand alone leading to the divergence of the trio in their hijinks in this book? *hint hint wink wink nudge nudge*) I laughed out loud, gasped, got angry, cussed, and cried throughout this book. The banter feels very reminiscent of mid-series Sam and Dean Winchester and Sylvia reminds me quite a bit of Jo, with her retorts and pokes at the boys. I look forward to many more adventures with Sylvia, Jon, Cliff, and all of the others. I received an e-book copy of Lured in Crimson from the authors as an advanced reader in exchange for an honest review. I will 100% be obtaining a print copy to add to the previous 2 books in this series and to read over and over again.
Book 3 in the Shot in the Dark series, and honestly? This one was full of jaw-dropping betrayals, new characters to love, and one insane cliffhanger. Not to mention monsters on top of monsters.
Following Sylvia, Jon, and Cliff out of Louisiana (thank goodness), they find themselves at a fancy hotel brimming with magic and trouble almost immediately. Which is honestly right on brand for them at this point.
Ben, a fairy, Lee, a con-man, and Delilah, a witch, completely stole my heart. They were such a fun addition to the story and really gave this book that found family feeling. They also save Zia, a noble fairy, who I predict will change things for a certain someone.
The pacing in this was so fast in the best way. New monsters are revealed, tensions keep building, and Jon is forced to make a difficult decision involving a very familiar face.
Mary and Ann had me raging through the this book. Every time I thought things couldn’t get worse, another unexpected twist would happen. I was genuinely questioning everyone and half convinced there were lingering trust issues waiting to explode. By the end, I was literally sitting there like, “What NOW?!”
This book was such a ride, and that ending left me staring at the wall. There has to be more because I need answers immediately.
Honestly, this series has become such a comfort read for me in the same way Supernatural is a comfort show. Every book feels like a new episode, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Jon, Sylvia, and Cliff and their journey.
I will never ever ever get over this series!! Genuinely Mary & Anne took all the best things from urban fantasy and put it into this story and at three books in, I feel like I'm family with these characters. Some of my most favorite characters and some of the best found family I've read thus far!
I think I said in my reviews of books 1 & 2, but as someone who was and still is obsessed with tinkerbell, reading about fairys of that size just makes my inner child so happy. And then combined with all the paranormal aspects, elemental magic and monster hunting, its the perfect blend of all of my favorite things into adulthood!
Our three main characters!!! Ugh seriously can I get a round of applause?! Bc I LOVEEE them!!! All three have very different relationships with the other 2 but they all work soooo well together. Friendship, love and brotherhood in all the ways that matter. They are THE definition of found family. 🥹🥹
If you like: 🫶🏻 found family 👾 monster hunting ❤️🔥 forbidden love 🤯 plot twists and HUGE reveals ⚔️ heists
then set your calendars for June 18th bc thats when this book is going to be out!!!
Thank you Mary & Anne for the opportunity to ARC read Lured in the Crimson! (And thank you for indulging my multiple Instagram DMs as I made my way through it!)
I am so happy to be back in this world! As a Supernatural fan (and let’s be honest — a Jensen & Jared fan), I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far!
Adding in the fairy elements (our girl Sylvia) and the romance makes this the perfect fantasy series for fans of the show! Even if you’ve never watched Supernatural, you’ll still be able to appreciate the witty characters, sassy dialogue, and crazy adventures they all get up to!
Here are the vibes of this book boiled down into one sentence: “She shook him off viciously, her dress doing little to restrain her range of movement—like she was born to slaughter people in formalwear.”
Honestly, these books just keep getting better and better! Mary Dublin & Anne Kendsley’s writing is incredible and so seamless that I would never guess this was written by two authors.
Lured in the Crimson is definitely worth the read! We meet some incredible new characters (that I seriously hope follow us into future books!!) as well as some big bads that made me want to chuck my Kindle across the room.
The black tie heist was such a fun storyline to read, and the tense, uncertain moments from page to page had me finishing this in less than two days! I couldn’t put it down, and I hope you won’t want to either!
I am, however, EXTREMELY FRIGHTENED BY THAT ENDING!!!!
✨️ I received an advanced copy of this ebook from the authors ✨️
This series really is a lot of fun. It's light-hearted, even when things do get dicey.
In this installment, our intrepid trio (Sylvia, Jon, and Cliff) are drawn into another side quest on their way toward Aelthorin: a fancy gala, where the rich are buying and selling supernatural creatures. They team up, albeit reluctantly, with a witch, another faerie, and a human who've come to disrupt the gala.
We get not one, but two unexpected family reunions during this heist-gone-sideways, and that's not nearly all of the surprises.
I was dying for Cliff's point-of-view through much of this one, even though this was still largely Jon and Sylvia's story. Not just because I love Cliff, but also because damn does he get put through the ringer in this one!
The ending has me wondering whether we'll be back with Jon and Sylvia for another book, or whether they'll move into the background for Cliff to find his HEA. Because on the one hand, they've been in love with each other and talking about spending their lives together for a while, so even if it wasn't perfect they already chose each other against the odds. But now, with this ending, I kind of feel like we should get their point-of-view of this new phase too.
We do get a pretty strong hint at the end of where Cliff's story will be headed, too...although maybe it's a misdirection? I'll be excited to see, because he's still my favorite.
My favorite character finally got the spotlight he deserves, and that ending?! Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley have left my jaw on the floor. I am completely speechless! Lured in Crimson is, without a doubt, the absolute best book in the Shot in the Dark series so far. Mary and Anne managed to raise the stakes, break my heart, and leave me begging for more in this spectacular third installment of what is shaping up to be an epic 6-book series. Cliff has always been my absolute favorite character, so seeing him get so much focus in this book was a dream come true. Watching him finally find his love interest and seeing their chemistry develop added such an incredible layer to the story. The emotional depth and high-yearning tension in their dynamic gave me everything I wanted and more. The pacing of this urban romantasy is a masterclass. Just when you think you know where the supernatural conflict is heading, the authors expand the universe in the best way possible. And can we talk about that ending?! The cliffhanger we are left with is absolutely amazing—I was not prepared, and now I have no idea how I am going to survive the wait for book four. If you haven’t started this series yet, consider this your sign. It has intense action, unforgettable characters, and brilliant writing. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to continue this story! Thank you to the authors for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review
I truly feel like a fake fan having gotten an ARC for this book when I barely read Shot In The Dark in February but that just shows how much the series has grown and continued to draw me in with each book getting better than before.
My first review for Shot In The Dark is not the nicest and it took me a second to decide to read Hunted In The Shadows but as I did, it made me see the difference in the two books and then now adding Lured In The Crimson to the lineup it makes it an even better series. The characters are beginning to grow into their own personalities while still carrying the vibes of the original blueprint (Sam and Dean).
The ending not only leaving us on a cliffhanger but also finally having Sylvia complete her change while also giving her a 7 day chance to return to a fairy makes me feel like we’re gonna get a Barbie Mermaidia “change my wings for a tail” level of desperation next book and I’m definitely ready for it. I’m very excited for the next book in the series for 2027 and even excited for the upcoming vampire book that Mary and Anne have been teasing as a heavy vampire enthusiast myself.
So overall, if you didn’t click with this series at the beginning, pick up the second book. And then pick up this one. It’ll become a series you’ll enjoy and learn to appreciate from beginning to end.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ok so I'm blown away. I was already having fun with this series ....but this one was the icing on the cake!
First let me say thank you to the authors , Mary Dublin and Anne Kindsley, for trusting me with yet another of your babies with an advanced readers copy to read. You guys have out done yourselves, again!
I absolutely love the use of enemies-to-lovers (my fav! 🤭), found family, forced proximity, paranormal, supernatural and so many other tropes that just flowed so naturally within this storyline. I enjoyed how the side characters became important characters, how the slight background information was subtle but huge and impactful, and how it all came together perfectly keeping me engaged and wanting to know what happens next!
I found myself rooting for characters and getting teary eyed at times without even realizing it. The witty and snarky banter is right up my alley and I laughed out loud many times! Sylvia will always be my favorite!!!♥️
I absolutely enjoyed this book and I can't wait for it to come out so I can buy it to add to my collection!! I highly recommend this for anyone who loves a great story with a lot of fun magic, paranormal /supernatural beings and interesting adventures!!
Dark tension, dangerous chemistry, and addictive suspense. Lured in the Crimson delivers the kind of dark romantic suspense that keeps you completely locked in from start to finish. The atmosphere feels dangerous, seductive, and emotionally intense, with every interaction carrying tension beneath the surface.
This book thrives on mystery, secrets, and the constant feeling that nobody is fully telling the truth. The “shot in the dark” energy of the series continues here with layered suspense, morally gray choices, and relationships that blur the line between attraction and destruction.
The chemistry is one of the strongest parts of the story. Every confrontation feels charged, every emotional moment hits harder because of the danger surrounding the characters, and the darker themes add intensity without losing the emotional core.
What really stands out is the atmosphere—the crimson imagery, hidden motives, emotional manipulation, and lingering sense of threat create a story that feels cinematic and immersive.
If you love dark romance mixed with suspense, dangerous attraction, secrets, betrayal, and emotionally messy characters, this is the kind of book that completely pulls you under.
“Some people don’t fall into danger. They walk toward it willingly.”
Lured in the Crimson is book 3 in Shot in the Dark series, and this series...ahh!!!!
Okay first of all I want to thank the authors for providing me with an ARC. Thank you, Thank you! I love Sylvia, Jon, and Cliff and being able to read book 3 in this series is EVERYTHING!!!
In book 3, our girl Sylvia's quest continues for finding her a powerful gem that will help her in her transformation. Look I know Jon and Cliff are big shot hunters and technically this is their world but in my head Sylvia is the big boss and we are just living in her world okay. Anyway my girl's quest is interrupted when Jon and Cliff receive a cry for help from their old mentor. Off they go to help this mentor and well everything is just super fast paced, in a good way, from there. Like BOOM there's so much happening in this hunt and so many new people you meet. And these new people, omg, BIG FAN of them...I need more of Delilah, Lee, and Ben...like I need a whole book just with them, I love them so much! Please give me more of them I'm begging...
And Cliff...oh we get to know more about him in this book and I am so excited to learn more in future book.
If you are a fan of Supernatural, monster hunting, romantasy, this series is perfect for you. Book 3 comes out on June 18!!
They just can’t help it. Every book gets better and better! In some moments, I felt myself leaning back and thinking just how much I goddamn love reading; the next, I was short-of-breath, gripping the spine like I would torture it for answers.
I love these characters. Cliff, I’m so thrilled, received greater depth, wrangling away from me everything I’d taken for granted. Although as a Dean-guy I am biased considering every time his name is dropped I light up like a Christmas tree. In my review of Shot in the Dark, I mentioned expecting (and wishing) Cliff would play a more romantic role, but I take it all back. His stubbornness, his veiled affection and halfhearted attempts at mockery, and ultimately, his softness, make him a perfect candidate for an older brother.
The momentum in this one had me never putting the book down without wanting another chapter. Or almost never. Truthfully, my attention waned following the climax, but that’s because I’m much more interested in Sylvia’s dynamic with Jon and Cliff than I am her family. The main three’s entangling relationships are so engrossing that I struggle to find room for more.
Overall, another banger and I’m so, SO ready for book four!
I received this as an ARC, thank you to the authors, and honestly, this series continues to be such a fun ride. If you’re into supernatural stories with that familiar “monster hunting, tension-filled partnership, dark roads and darker secrets” kind of vibe, this really scratches that itch. You can absolutely feel the inspiration woven through it, but it still manages to stand on its own and build its own atmosphere.
What I continue to enjoy most about these books is the dynamic between the characters. There’s chemistry, tension, loyalty, frustration—all the things that make partnerships in this kind of story actually compelling to follow. The balance between action, supernatural elements, and emotional moments works really well, and the pacing kept me engaged the whole time.
I also appreciated that the story doesn’t rely only on nostalgia or references to carry it. It has its own identity, its own darker tone, and enough intrigue to keep me wanting more. Definitely a strong continuation for me, and after loving the first two books already, this one absolutely held up. Easy 4.5★.
Lured in the Crimson by Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley Shot in the Dark #3
AHHHHH!! I am so glad I didn’t have to wait too long for this book since I just read book two this month but now I want more!!!
Thank you to the authors for the eARC of this book.
Jon, Sylvia, and Cliff are such a fantastic team. I absolutely have loved following them through all their adventures. Such a lovely found family vibe that continues to grow. This one had so much turmoil and I was so scared! My heart was in my throat waiting for things to totally fall apart and hoping they could be put back together. Being torn apart, reunions, and all of the things.
Fairies, dragons, shifters, vampires, and all kinds of other magical creatures make appearances and it is so fun to see how they are integrated. Watching Jon and Cliff grow in their beliefs added so much depth. I really don’t want to give too much away but man. The ending of this had me shook. Like what?! We made it! And then what?!
Seriously though give this series a shot. Book one and two are available and on Kindle Unlimited!
~Advanced Reader Copy Review, a couple character name spoilers but no context~
First of all, I want to give a big thank you to Mary Dublin & Anne Kendsley for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team for this book, it was a wild and wonderful ride!
I’ve already been hooked on these characters with the first two books, and had no idea I would fall even more for them! The found family aspect of this book grew to new heights, even with the power struggles of hard decisions vs. desires of the heart between them. I am a Cliff girlie for sure, but the development of Jon and Sylvia’s relationship is so precious. And Lee & Delilah??? Um excuse me?? I’m obsessed with them!
The vivid descriptions of the Crimson Gala really helped create this lavish atmosphere in my mind, and made me feel the tension of it like I was there. And the beautiful chaos of Róisín?? I see the novella covers more of her story and that’ll be one of my next in line reads because I loved her so much.
Ya’ll really did it with this one, it’s my favorite of the three so far!! So glad I had a small heads up from the authors on the ending as well when I hopped into their dm 😂 so well done!!
Ok I think this was my favourite so far!! They keep getting better and better. I was scared I wasn’t going to remember enough and get lost (as I often do with sequels and fantasy in general) but nope! Back in it months after the second book and I had no issues!
The plot was great, good pacing and the bombs that dropped were insane!! I thought I was losing my mind when Cliff was going to ‘betray’ Sylvia. I was like NO, there is NO WAY! But I felt what Sylvia felt, I was crushed. But knowing a Dean Winchester inspired character, Jensen Ackles is that good an actor 😉
I was also devastated that Sylvia and Jon couldn’t go to the astral plane anymore.
Then Sylvia’s Father?! Does he have a name? And her becoming human!! I was so on edge thinking something would go wrong. Still could I guess? She better wake up!! It was giving me Twilight Breaking Dawn transformation cliffhanger 😅
And Cliff love interest?! I freaking knew it!! I need more of that next book 😍 Cliff deserves love
I love this series!! Supernatural meets Ferngully, romantasy, action packed, and I actually love no- spice

I LIVE for witty banter and action- that’s what you get as Sylvia and Jon’s story takes them to the Crimson Gala to save some fellow fairies from basically being trafficked.
The twist of who is in charge?- u gotta read that one to find out! I just wish there were some flashbacks incorporated into the plot. It’s just a tease to imply the past. With the beautiful way these authors string a sentence together, I want to SEE IT!
But seriously- I feel like I’ve been Onyx Storm-ed here!!! Sylvia is FINALLY going to meet Jon one-on-one in the real world as a human…and it ends!! UGH!!
To put a positive spin on it- at least that means another book is coming AND we get to see JON AND SYLVIA TOGETHER AS HUMANS!!!
I’m still waiting for Cliff to have more character development, but it’s clear, this story is about Jon and Sylvia; it’s not spicy, it’s not the fanfic some of us may want when we hear “Supernatural-inspired”…it’s an action-driven monster hunt where the monsters aren’t always the thing hiding under your bed.
Ps- Is it irony that this story ends with a cliffhanger and the final prequel chapter is titled “Cliff”???? Probably ;-)

Lured in the Crimson absolutely hooked me from the very first chapter. If you love fantasy, suspense, supernatural twists, and endings that leave you immediately needing the next book — this series is for you.
Every chapter had some kind of turn I didn’t see coming, and the pacing never slowed down. It gave me major Supernatural vibes in the best way possible while still feeling unique and addictive on its own. The mix of danger, mystery, fantasy, and emotional tension kept me completely invested the entire time.
I finished this book in a day and a half because I physically could not put it down. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, another twist pulled me right back in.
The ending? Brutal in the best possible way — the kind that immediately makes you need the next book.
Highly recommend if you love: ✨ fantasy ✨ supernatural themes ✨ plot twists ✨ suspense/thrillers ✨ binge-worthy series
Definitely one of those books that stays in your head after you finish
Nooooo!!!! Bring them BACK! I am no where near ready to say goodbye! This was the PERFECT final book of a trilogy - except for being the final book! Questions were answered, a new issue was raised and dealt with. Even those slightly pesky Easter eggs! If you know me at all, you know I love this series. The WHIMSY alone had me hooked! And although I will never apologize for being Team Cliff, I do dearly love all our MCs. If you’re missing the fun of a fairy sized fairy and the drama of the men who love her, the Shot in the Dark series is exactly what you’re looking for! Sylvia just wants adventure and shiny things. She’s my kind of fairy! Jon & Cliff just want to shoot things - until they meet her. The relationships unfold throughout the entire series and across a couple of realms. I’ve become very attached to the whole crew! So much so that I’m planning a little fairy garden in the event any one needs a place to rest or stash something pretty. Thanks to the authors for gifting me the arc! I loved being a part of Sylvia’s journey! It has been quite the honor💕
Lured in the Crimson by Mary Dublin and Anne Kensley starts with another action packed opening! Our favorite fairy... no not Tinklebell... geez she gets all the spotlight.... Sylvia is offended... anyways it starts with Sylvia getting attacked by a harpy and then her birthday. The boys get a text from their mentor that she needs help. So they go to help out and end up finding out they're about to pull off one monster of a heist!
Yes Sylvia is still offended that she's not your favorite fairy. I would definitely call this a mix between Supernatural and FernGully set during Ocean's Eleven. Its such a fun read and we get to meet so many characters whom are fantastic! 5 fairies out of 5!
The velociraptor ended up throwing up the half fairy and the other fairies managed to heal the the half fairy up... but the fairy is now traumatized by dinosaurs and wants nothing to do with them anymore... oops again!
Thanks again for the ARC copy of Lured in the Crimson Mary and Anne! Love your universe you ladies have made and can't wait the next book!
Thank you so much for the authors for the early review copy! All thoughts are my own!
Wow, considering this is book 3 in the series I am completely blown away at how much action there was, how engaging it was. I don’t think I came up for air the entire time I was reading and the writing was incredible! I love how it expanded on things from the beginning of the series and you find out so many secrets. I love the new characters, especially Delilah and Zia. Everyone had daddy issues is basically how I’d sum up the story! 🤣
The black tie heist added such a cool setting and plot point as the characters tracked down a supernatural trafficker named Eros. The new creatures were so interesting and I look forward to any new ones we’ll meet next! The ending has me (im)patiently waiting for book four!
(Note I think you should read Consumed which is their novella before reading Lured in the Crimson)
