It's the night before Christmas whensuddenly Santa's old nemesis, the evil Ice King, and his terrible ice trolls launch a surprise attack on the North Pole and capture Santa. But all is not lost -- the powerful Protector is on his way to save the day!
However, when the Protector arrives at the North Pole, he too is captured and it's up to his superhero wife, the Protectress, and their two children, Carolyn and Robert, to find a way to save Christmas.
Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
Still can't believe he is gone - fun family adventure that is sure to make all smile. Sure can remember lots of times my mom would get me presents based on my favorite superheroes...so this book kind of brings back lots of really nice memories for me. On my permanent Christmas shelf!
My 4 year old loves this, simply because it has to do with Superheroes and Santa. Yes, he chose to read it in February, but it's really a great winter-time story.
I, however, wasn't nuts about it. The dialogue wasn't great, and things simply didn't make sense in the "how did we go from fighting the bad guy to everything's fine?" kind of way. Transitions are poor and while this is ok for NOW for my kid, it drives me nutso.
The artwork is gorgeous. The dad is the one who gets captured, and the mom rescues him, which is awesome. But the story... I don't know. It's just not interesting. It tries to be warm and fuzzy, like good Christmas stories are, but doesn't pull it off.
