Andie has one rule she lives by, no assholes. She doesn’t befriend them and she certainly doesn’t date them. Upon transferring to Parkland University, she is irritated to discover her neighbor is not only an asshole, but an attractive one that her body and mind can’t seem to ignore. Can Andie let go of the one rule that safeguards her heart?
Lucas doesn’t date. Ever. At least not anymore but the sexy, distant woman across the hall intrigues him and the draw is more than he can resist. Will he like what he finds hidden deep inside her wounded soul?
They both fight to keep their rules, but the pull is irresistible. As Andie struggles with the demons from her past, old wounds open. Both Lucas and Andie will need to decide what is worth fighting for.
Some rules are meant to be broken. Are they up for the challenge?
The No Asshole Rule is a standalone novel. It is Book 1 in the Rule series.

This was just in the middle for me. Some things I liked, others I hated. It definitely could've been better.
*Warning: Spoilers Ahead*
Liked:
- Lucas chased Andie and even when things were overwhelming because she refused to share her past he was patient with her.
- They had some cute moments together. Their dates, playing Mario Kart together was enjoyable to read about.
- The biggest thing I liked was that Lucas was a celibate for 4 years. He used to be a manwhore in high school and after his 16-year-old sister gets pregnant and dumped he changes his act because he saw himself in his sister's ex.
Disliked:
- How much Lucas's past was mentioned. I'm one of those readers who prefers less details about H's past. I don't need to know how he was going through women, and how his childhood room still has his condom stash and a list of go-to girls who were always down to have a good time. Those details stay with me and affect my enjoyment of the actual romance between the H/h. This honestly would've been a DNF had he not been a celibate.
- I thought I would have more problems with the H because of his past manho status being brought up all the time but the h was damn annoying. She has an abusive father who she's trying to avoid and her past boyfriend pressured her into having sex and then asked her to leave cause it was disappointing. She has a guard up due to all that and it causes her to overreact a lot of the time.
3. That climax was way too cliche. I expected better.
Andi Burke, 19, has a bad history with men. Because of it she’s quick to judgment. So when her new neighbor, hottie Lucas Jensen, barrels past her, leaving her in the dust with heavy luggage, he doesn’t make the best first impression. Or make Andi doubt her “no asshole rules.”
But it turns out Lucas is really quite the prince. (Forget book boyfriend, every girl needs to find a boy like him in life!) A reformed teenage manwhore, Lucas, 22, hasn’t had sex in four years. Yes 4! (Refreshing— you don’t find that too often in contemporary romance). It seems that Lucas has had his own family issues that have made him reevaluate relationships, and until Andi he hasn’t been interested in them.
Andi lacks experience with trustworthy boys. Lucas lacks experience with committed girlfriends. So how does that all turn out?...Well, Lucas is a total prince. (I said that already didn’t I?) Can’t really say it enough.
“I can’t lie and say I won’t make mistakes, but they will never be anything unforgiveable. I might say the wrong thing, or forget something maybe I shouldn’t, but I swear there is no one else. I swear I will never judge you for whatever has happened in your past.” — Lucas
Aside from one little overreaction (that honesty felt out of character for Lucas) he’s the doll of the book. Andi on the other hand…well largely she’s likeable, taking into account all that she’s been through. She is quick to jump to misunderstandings though, but thankfully she has a great support system of characters who make up the supporting roles of the story.
Speaking of the supporting characters, they definitely add to the story and seem to set the stage for future books. I’m definitely interested in Dax’s story, especially with the person he’s hinted to be with. Family, friends, and making a serious relationship work are all themes of the story.
I received an ARC for an honest review for the blog tour so I’m hoping it was simply an uncorrected proof. There were quite a few run-ons and comma splices that required some sentences to be re-read in order to follow, but aside from those grammatical issues the story was an enjoyable new adult read.
Told via Andi and Lucas’s alternating first person POV, if you enjoy coming of age romances that focuses on the characters and the couple as they make their journey and grow, then you’ll want to check this one out.
Andie and Lucas are neighbors. The first day that Andie moved in, Lucas wasn't paying attention and didn't hold the door for her while she was carrying in a box. He then laughed when she dropped the box in the lobby (she thought because he was enjoying watching her struggle, but it was really because of the potty mouth on her) and didn't think to offer to help her carry it up the stairs. This predisposes Andie to think he's an asshole and to treat him as such. As Andie has made the rule to avoid assholes, she's determined to hate her neighbor and avoid him, despite being instantly attracted to him. Lucas is intrigued by her and spends the book chasing after her as she works through her issues.
Lucas was a pretty charming hero with the patience of a saint. He was a reformed player and was refreshingly honest about all his past faults. His life changed 4 years ago when his sister had a baby at 16 and her boyfriend was a complete douche and dumped her when she was 8 months along. He saw a lot of himself in her boyfriend and decided to change his ways after seeing the other side of the situation (his sister). Since he hasn't been interested in anything serious, and doesn't want to be that guy anymore, he's been celibate since then. He's devoted himself to helping his sister and nephew, even at the expense of living his own life. Meeting the heroine and wanting something more with her threw him for a loop, but he was pretty determined early on to get her to open up to him.
My biggest problem with this book is Andie. She has a rule about assholes, which wouldn't be a bad thing, except she thinks every man out there is an asshole (except for two--big of her, I know). She freely admits to being a man-hater and a bitch and is aware of how hateful she can be. That makes her whole attitude much less quirky and charming than I wanted. This girl had issues. Heck, her issues had issues. She spent the whole book acting like an absolute headcase to hero and he just sucked it up and took it because he thought she was worth it.
I didn't understand why he put up with her since there was very little about her that made up for her attitude. She would be normal, although irritatingly insecure, but then someone would say something to make her doubt the hero--even though he'd been nothing but upfront and honest with her, even when it didn't reflect well on him--or she would jump to conclusions, and then she would flip out on the hero and run away sobbing. That would then cue an intervention by her friends or her brother and she would cry and whine about how he would leave her because she's so crazy. That was, of course, after she bitched about him and men in general and vowed never to trust him again before she finally admitted she was the one in the wrong.
Their relationship was exhausting and the author had a habit of skipping ahead in time in their relationship from one chapter to the next, which made the heroine's lack of growth even more grating. Months into the relationship and she's still such a psycho? No thanks. The fact that her friends kept saying stuff after she'd have a freak out like, "If he doesn't understand and can't forgive you then he doesn't deserve you" made me cringe. It's his fault if he doesn't want to be crapped on in the relationship anymore? Really??? Way to enable her behavior instead of giving her a reality check! Of course he always took her back without complaint. I felt so bad for him, especially when she still wasn't opening up and explaining what had happened to her in the past to make her this way.
I ended up DNF'ing the book at 80% because I was just so tired of the heroine. Even when she was normal she was still needy and insecure. It's hard to care about a romance when I was hoping the hero would find someone else he could actually have a partnership with.
Andie has just transferred to Parkland University. After a horrible childhood and the constant looking over her shoulder for her father, she is ready to move forward with her one rule… She doesn’t associate herself with a$$holes.
On moving day, she comes in contact with her hunky neighbor Lucas. Like Andie, Lucas keeps to himself. Things begin to change for the two of them once Andie’s older brother Dax moves in with her and she starts to get closer to Lucas.
As the attraction between them builds, it becomes evident that Andie cannot live by her rule, especially when Lucas is not what she initially thought. Through a series of obstacles placed in front of them, including a jealous girl, a return of the past, and several bouts of running due to misunderstandings, Andie comes to the conclusion that not all men are like the ones from her past.
Although this was a good read, it was a little too predictable. My only drawbacks were the many grammatical errors and misplaced and dangling participles, which interrupted the flow of the novel. I felt as if I had to constantly re-read in order to understand.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I chose to read this story read based solely on the title which I think is pretty great. The cover however leaves a lot to be desired.
This is a college romance story that I really enjoyed. Andie has been treated like crap from all the men in her life and has no tolerance for A-holes. But first impressions aren't always correct and everyone has a bad day. Andie's past means she doesn't trust men and this is reoccurring issues that causes problems throughout the story.
The relationship between Andie and Lucas develops over time and I loved that they are normal everyday people. When they played Mario Kart on their first date I was completely sold on both of them.
I had a great time reading about not only Andie and Lucas but their family and friends as well. I look forward to the next book in the series The No Bad Boy Rule.
First I want to warn you all that Andie will get on your nerves. With that said you have to fully understand her to see why she is so annoying. She's really had a horrible life and been treated so awful she's never known what your really supposed to be treated like. Lucas will have you fuming also but he's more patient and tolerable then most would be. These two are totally opposite but have so much in common the chemistry is undeniable. But Andie still pulls back I really do understand what she went through growing up I wasn't like her personality but can understand closing yourself off from others and not letting anyone in only a select few. Can't wait for more of this series I truly did enjoy it. Thank you Ashley Erin for letting me review for an honest opinion. Reviewing for Night and Day book blog http://ndbbr2014.com Stephanie Powell
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were real and sucked me in instantly. After their first encounter, Andie's focus was school and making a life for herself. And Lucas...well, Lucas had no clue he was even an asshole to her!! It was a great amount of tension and buildup as both main characters worked to follow their own rules, but the pull was too much and they finally gave in.
I found myself smiling often while reading this book, the author did a great job of keeping the story interesting, which had me sneaking some reading time whenever possible.
If you're looking for a sweet, fun new adult romance, I highly recommend this book!
**I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**
I really don't know how to write this review. I totally struggled with this one! This story was just not what I expected. The male character for me wasn't what I thought his character should be. Both characters have rules and reasons for them.
But I'll be honest I had to put this book down several times because I couldn't stay connected with it. I just felt like it dragged. Not saying you shouldn't read it but I know this book wasn't for me
I was lucky enough to receive an arc and it was amazing!!! This is such a great book about letting someone in after being hurt, it teaches you that life is not always dark,, that you don't have to be afraid to let love in and that in the end everything works out! Andie is a strong heroine that I admire! She will always be close to my heart! Pick up this book is amazing! Also I'm friends with the author and she is cool!
“Sometimes the most meaningful people of journeys take time, effort and patience.”
Andie is not your typical college student, she isn’t into partying or trying to date every guy on campus heck she isn’t trying to date even one guy. Focusing on her classes and hanging with her brother and skyping with her best friend are all she really has in on her agenda most days that is until she decides to transfer to a larger school to finish up her studies. Irritated with her brother for his convenient absence during moving day Andie struggles to lug things up the stairs to her new apartment and this is how she meets Lucas but let’s not get excited there are no fireworks or angels singing but there are a string of profanities due to the fact that he didn’t so much as hold the door or offer assistance to a damsel clearly in distress. So now Andie has labeled her new neighbor an asshole and you never want to get put in the asshole box because once there you never return.
Lucas is just returning to school from spending the summer at home where he helps his younger sister take care of his nephew. Since becoming an uncle he has drastically changed many of his views and now solely works hard to finish school and put his family first all of the time. Distracted by his phone call with his sister Lucas doesn’t think to offer and help Andie until it is too late and just as he is about to try and aid in her struggles his phone beeps with another call from his worried sister completely taking his mind off anything but the sobbing Ava on the line.
“You are everything I never knew I wanted until I had you.”
“I realize that I’m no longer falling in love with her. The freefall has ended with crashing realization that this woman holds my heart in her hands.”
To say Andie has trust issues and self-esteem problems is putting it mildly, this girl has erected so many walls around herself to safeguard and thwart any attempt at someone being able to get close enough to hurt her. She is cynical and quick to believe the worst due to history but I have to give Lucas credit he is patient with her and because of the situation with his family he is able to see past the insecurities and see the real Andie that is just begging to be loved and cherished. I loved that he never gave up he fought with her and for her is was completely swoonworthy! Andie eventually takes a chance and in the end she is rewarded with all the love she deserves.
“I promise to be patient and to give you time when you need it. I love you, that’s all we need.”
I loved all the secondary characters Dex and Kensi were hilarious and you could feel how much they truly care about Andie. I would love to have this turned into a series with the all the character and have more of everyone. I highly recommend.
Reviewed on behalf of 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog This is the 1st book in the Rule Series by Ashley Erin, it is also the first book I have read of hers and I was pleasantly surprised. The storyline is one that has been done before, but Ashley has put her own original stamp on this trope and has written a beautiful story. A New Adult Romance based in a college in Canada, Andie (h) and Lucas (H) are dorm neighbors who are very much aware of each other, even though they are both not interested in relationships. Lucas was the standout character in this book for me. He has his own issues within himself and his family, but Andie continues to draw him in. He knows she is hiding something from her past, and instead of walking away, he stands with her and beside her - especially after she reveals her painful secrets. At times this was a hard book to read. Not because of any faults within the book itself, but of the subject matter - reading about a father who cannot, and more shockingly, won't love his daughter. What I enjoyed most about the story is you watch Andie slowly place her trust in Lucas, opening herself up to loving someone and trusting in that love not only being reciprocated, but being worthy of it. Ashley's writing has a great flow, with many great characters that add to the storyline. Looking forward to the next book in the series The No Bad Boy Rule.
I really really wanted to like this book and persevered for as long as I could but by 40% I couldn't continue. Andie just flew off the handle at the drop of a hat , about 3 times in the whole 40% I read. she banged on about how she hated men and kept them at arms length but changed her ways a bit too rapidly for my liking. this one just wasn't for me
A great read. I loved Lucas and Andie's story. Great depth and suspense. Their friends and families were fun and supportive. Can't wait to read to read about Dax and Ava.
*I'd like to thank the author for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book to review.* Lucas and Andie's romance was often predictable and I didn't feel the chemistry between them. The book was well written and had a nice storyline to it. I wish the character's emotions were more developed because I was left wanting more. Overall it was a good read.
I wasn't sure whether to sign up to review this book or sign up for a promotional post instead for the Blog Tour, but I thought on it for a while and decided to review it! I'm happy I did! I mean, I didn't love, love this book as much as I was expecting, but I liked it! I felt there was just that something missing to make me love it though! There was very little suspense or action in the book, which disappointed me a little, but there was a little bit of action and suspense in the last 10% of the book! There was plenty of romance though! There were some seriously hot scenes too! The plot was good and well paced! It did take me longer to read than a book normally takes me, but I always remembered where I was and what had happened! I enjoyed the plot and I loved that it had a lot of romance in it! I would have liked more action and suspense though! The characters were great! Andie was the main female character, and she had had such bad experiences with the men and guys in her life that it made her scared of commitment and scared to start a relationship! I could understand this completely! Andie had been treated really horribly by her dad and this had affected her a lot! It made her a flight risk, which is how she describes herself in the book! I agreed with this, but Andie learned a lot in this book and she grew a lot too, which made me really happy for her! She was a completely different person at the end to what she was at the beginning of the book too, and she was a lot more confident and content! Lucas was the main male character and love interest of Andie! Lucas was seriously hot! He also juggled a lot in this book with how much he helped his sister and nephew and then he had his college work! This made me have a lot of respect for him! In this book, Lucas showed Andie how to trust guys again and he also showed her that not all guys are the same! It was a pretty big job, but he handled it well lol! I loved Lucas! I have to admit though that all he thought about was Andie! I mean, it didn't what he was doing or he was always thinking about Andie! I felt he pined after her a little too much, but it was kinda understandable as she intrigued him and he wanted to find out more about her! I would have liked for him to have maybe played hard to get or something or though less about Andie lol! I loved that this book was written from both Andie and Lucas' point of views! I felt it moved the plot along more and it helped me connect more with the characters as well! It was also nice to see the characters feelings for each other frown through both of their eyes! Even though I didn't love this book as much as I was hoping too, I'm definitely going to read the next book in the series! I'm not sure if it's going to be about Andie and Lucas or if it's going to be about secondary characters, but I can't wait to read it when it releases! The ending didn't help me work out whether it was going to be about different characters or continue Andie and Lucas' story lol! The cover for this book is seriously hot! It suits the book and the model on the front is the perfect Lucas! I love it! Big thank you to Ashley for an ARC of The No Asshole Rule and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I haven’t been in a big New Adult mood in a while, but when I saw the title of this book I had to give it a go – even if that required sacrificing a few hours of sleep to do so. And I’m glad I did. The No Asshole Rule has the requisite amount of angst one tends to find in a New Adult romance, but the reason behind Andie’s issues aren’t the typical insecurities young women her age tend to have. In fact, the reason why Andie is so cut-off from the world is pretty horrific in my opinion, both because of what happened to her and who was responsible for it. Add to that Lucas, an admitted reformed player, and the book proved to be an enjoyable read for me.
While we get the drama, angst, and romance of a New Adult romance, Ms. Erin sets out to show that first impressions can be overcome and doing so can be well worth the effort. To be fair to Andie, Lucas did make an awful first impression. Yes, we find out afterwards that he wasn’t being the a**hole she thought he was as he was actually dealing with a family issue at the time, but her first impression of him seemed spot-on and their subsequent interactions didn’t do anything to disprove it. When Andie finally gets a chance to see that she was wrong about Lucas and gives friendship a chance – they will be neighbors for at least the next three years – they find out that have a lot in common. Gotta love a girl who can kick EVERY guys’ butt in video games. Because of her history, it takes Andie a long time to see the potential for more with Lucas. Fortunately, Andie’s brother Dax is there to encourage her and give Lucas advice without spilling her secrets. Thankfully Lucas actually listens to Dax and gets his own sister’s advice and takes it slow with Andie. This makes for an enjoyable slow-building of their romance, and when they finally do take that next step, well it’s both sweet and sexy.
Where the author took The No Asshole Rule that I elevated above the typical New Adult read for me was the conflict between Andie and her father. Honestly as I got farther and farther into the book, I began to think the author wasn’t going to play that card after all. And them BAM! she went there and she did it spectacularly. While I hated that Andie went through what she did, when she’s confronted by her father it gives total credence to every flinch, jerk, shut down, and tensed muscle that Andie experienced in the book. As bad as it was to watch, it added to the realism of Andie’s character – and gave her the kick in the rear she needed to admit her feelings for Lucas. I really liked Andie and Lucas’s friends and family and am looking forward to Lucas’s sister and Andie’s brother story play out. The No Asshole Rule was a great start for the Rule series and I look forward to reading The No Bad Boy Rule.

Grab your copy of this angsty, gritty, awesome story of heartache, healing and forevers.
I am going to admit, the title of this book drew me in and then I read the synopsis and knew I had to read it.
The No Asshole Rule centers around Lucas and Andie who are now neighbors in their college apartment building. Their first run in didn't go so well, and Andie has this rule.. it's pretty simple really "No Assholes", and the impression she has of Lucas when she sees him is he definitely is one to avoid because of her rule.
Andie has lived a very hard life, and doesn't let many people in, and Lucas is a reformed bad boy, due to some things that happened in his sisters life. Both of them have pasts that have made them who they are now, but for some reason Lucas can't stop thinking about Andie, and Andie is intrigued by Lucas.
These two definitely have a difficult relationship at first. Lucas just trying to get Andie to open up is like pulling teeth, and he knows something had to have happened to make her the way she is now, but she won't open up about it. He slowly starts to pull back the layers that is Andie with the help of her big brother Jax.
Watching these two open up and navigate a relationship that neither of them thought they would have, nor did they really think they wanted is beautiful. I really enjoyed watching Andie open up and come out of her shell, and meet friends and start to trust. Lucas, he was amazing with Andie and understanding her and treating her with nothing but respect. He definitely is NOT an asshole!
This book is a really great read, and I was definitely pulled into the story and unable to put it down. I can't wait for more books in this series and hope that we get Jax's story! This book had me laughing, crying, and biting my nails towards the end. Make sure to pick this one up and fall in love with Lucas and Andie today!
4 stars for book one in this new adult series . Andie Burke is nineteen years old and getting ready to start her sophomore year in college when she has to transfer to Parkland. Andie has had it pretty rough up until now not being able to rely on anyone but herself. The men especially in Andie's life have shattered her confidence and trust leaving her declaring she will forever live by the "No Asshole Rule" therefore she has no time to devote to guys. As she is moving all of her belongings by herself into the dorm apartments Andie is instantly irritated by some jerk who couldn't even hold the door open for her further cementing her beliefs that all men are insufferable. Once Andie gets to her apartment she quickly realizes the guy that slammed the door on her is not only her new neighbor but he is absolutely gorgeous. Lucas Jensen is twenty two years old and a sophomore in college only because he delayed going to school and instead helped his sister and parents for that matter with his nephew Noah. Lucas freely admits he was your typical manwhore until his little sister got pregnant at sixteen and dropped like a bad habit before the baby was even born. Lucas saw how devastated his sister Ava was and vowed then he would never treat women like that again. Lucas has not even dated anyone on campus since the girls there haven't interested him enough but when he meets his new neighbor his whole philosophy changes. Lucas is immediately drawn to this feisty girl that seems to hate him on site but he is determined to get past that tough girl act. Lucas and Andie have numerous ups and downs with the missed connections and angst that I expect in a NA romance. I really enjoyed this first book and will be on the look out for book two.
Freaking awesome. This book was so good. This is the second book I have read by this author and once again, she made me fall in love with her writing style. Sexy, sweet, angsty, and with a few twists along the way, this book will grab you from the very first page and won't let you go until the end. This book will pull at your emotions and give you a few laughs along the way. This book is contemporary romance at its best. Get ready for a fun ride!
This is Lucas and Andie's story. From the first meeting, it is a battle of the wills for Andie and Lucas. Their is an underlying tension between them . . . attraction and dislike. But when circumstances change and these two are around each other more, the attraction starts to win. Lucas and Andie should never judge a book by its cover because not everything is at it seems. There is always more than meets the eye. Everyone is battling their own demons. Can these two find love and a happy ending despite the obstacles that lie ahead?
I liked these two. Told in dual POV, we get into the mind's of both Lucas and Andie so it was easy to connect with them. Lucas was amazing and a very unique hero. He won me from the very beginning. And Andie, while my heart bled for her, she frustrated me at times. These two had tons of obstacles to face, issues to deal with, and haunting pasts trying to interfere. But in the end, love and strength of one another always wins if it is meant to be. I was rooting for these two. Excited for the next book in this series!
Andie has dealt with assholes in her life and has vowed that she will never again date or be friends with an asshole. Andie transfers to Parkland University, now her rule is put to the test. Andie's new neighbor is not only an asshole, but an attractive one that her body and mind can’t seem to ignore. How will Andie solve her new dilemma ? Will she let go of the one rule ? Could he be worth it?
Lucas doesn’t date. Not Ever. Well if he is honest, he doesnt date anymore. But the sexy, distant woman across the hall intrigues him and he can't seem to resist. Will he like what he finds hidden deep inside her wounded soul?
They both have rules that they are fighting to keep. But the pull to each other is irresistible. As Andie struggles with the demons from her past, old wounds open. The question is: what is worth fighting for.
It is a great book and a amazing read. Andie's focus was school and making a life for herself. Lucas had no clue she thought he was an asshole. It was a great amount of buildup as both Andie and Lucus worked hard to follow their own rules and ignore the spark, but the pull was too much and they finally gave in. YAY! I loved their chemistry and loved their battle to fight off their connection. This was a such a good book and I was rooting for these two from the very beginning. I found myself smiling because I truly enjoyed reading about these two. I read this nonstop cover to cover in one sitting. It was that good. If you're looking for a sweet, fun story about two people with chemistry that they fight against at every turn. You'll love this book like I do!
We all have rules. Who we will associate with? Who we date? If we don't make rules then we will settle for less. Andie is no different. She has ONE rule, NO ASSHOLES. She doesn't want to know them, see them let alone date them. Been there, done that.
Lucas, does NOT date. He has done the manwhore thing and is over it. What young college aged male gives up manwhoring? Well, one whose sister was left alone and pregnant as a teenager. He didn't want to be compared to the guy who left his sister. He committed himself to school and helping his sister and being an example to his nephew.
First impressions speak volumes. The one that Andie got of Lucas was not one he can change. But, the one Andie makes on Lucas is one that he NEVER expected. All Andie wants is to go to school and succeed but, dammit if the asshole, Lucas hasn't got her mind going crazy. Lucas just can't believe the emotions the new neighbor is stirring within. Andie and Lucas are what each other are afraid of, the reason rules are in place. What happens when the attraction is so strong, that one begins to question their rules?
Ashley Erin has once again delivered a beautiful love story. A story of friendship, love and trust. It is easy to get lost in the story of Lucas and Andie. These two characters own you from the beginning of the book and the author does an amazing job on keeping the audience engaged. I am eagerly awaiting her next book.
When I saw the title of this book, and read the synopsis, I had to sign up for this review. It is a great, fast paced read. It was very enjoyable and I wasn't disappointed. Parts had me laughing, and other parts had me feeling bad for both Andie and Lucas.
Andie Burke has just transferred to Parkland University. As she's moving into her apartment, a hot guy lets the door slam into her face and she drops the tote she's carrying. She says he is an asshole. Her rule is "no assholes."
After her father and her two ex-boyfriends, I don't blame her for that rule at all. She does lump all men automatically in the asshole category though. Well, all men except for her brother, Dax.
Lucas Jensen is that asshole that let the door slam in her face. Only he isn't an asshole at all. He is actually pretty awesome and patient with Andie.
It does take her awhile to open up to him. They do have quiet a few miscommunications, but they are both young. He's 22 and she is 19.
I really liked all the characters and this is a series I will continue to read. Can't wait for the next one. I know something is going on with Dax and Ava.
"Thank you for slamming that door in my face, pissing me off and for being my asshole. I wouldn't want it any other way."
I do wish that there was something about the trial, not just that it was coming up.

The “Asshole” book as I like to call it is the first book in the Rule series by Erin Ashley. Andie has just transferred to a new college and has a rule about no assholes as far as men are concerned. She has a damaged past and hard shell to protect herself. Lucas has made changes in his life and has given up dating to focus on his family. Will Andie give Lucas a chance to prove he’s not her typical asshole?
“It’s a wonder I’ve ever had a boyfriend. My first reaction to most men is to dislike them, distrust them. I mean, my father set that up, followed by my two ex-boyfriends dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”
This story is FULL of angst and misunderstandings. Andie is very mistrustful and even when she lets her guard down a bit, one mix up can have her running. And “running” she does quite a bit. I wasn’t sure if she’d ever make it on the first date with Lucas. Once they do connect, the sex scenes are hot.
“Shuddering as he groans, I thrust my hips against him. My body aches with the sensations, never before have I ever felt such intense pleasure. Lucas thrusts two fingers inside me…”
I don’t want to give too much away, but If you like some emotional back and forth, Asshole will definitely rock your socks off!
Review by Whitney at The Club I received and ARC for an honest review.
Everyone has a past but some are worse and more complicated than others. Andie has had it rough when it came to the men in her life making it hard for her to trust anyone with her heart. She's closed off and has the look that scares most men off. She's made it a rule to not date assholes and it's worked for her until Lucas slams the door in her face. Despite is asshole move he somehow proves her wrong about her initial assumption. He doesn't give up but she fears that one day her crazy and her secrets will scare him off
Lucas isn't looking for any kind of relationship. He's not even willing to look for a one brighter but when he sees Andie and just how hard she is trying to keep everyone at a distance he can't help but be drawn in and break his rule. But is her constant fleeing too much or is she worth the constant struggle to have a future with her?
I loved the characters and the way Lucas shows Andie how a real man treats his woman. In spite of her constant running and holding back from him he keeps pushing and makes him a perfect book boyfriend. Andie being skittish when it comes to men is understandable but the author still portrays her strength over her past as she struggles to push herself past her usual boundaries.
While there times I found the dialogue a little awkward or strange, and I felt that maybe I was a little too old to really appreciate this story, but overall I really enjoyed the book. It always makes me a little giddy to find a book that references a place so close to my own home. I believe this is actually the first book I have ever read that actually takes place in Alberta, Canada. I really enjoyed watching the progression of Andie and Lucas' relationship. Andie has built up walls as a result of physical and emotional abuse suffered and the hand of her father and asshole boyfriends, hence her no asshole rule. It was really a beautiful and emotional journey to witness Andie discover that not all men are assholes. Lucas really is a great guy and she shows great patience while showing her how a woman should be treated, having learned from his sister's bad experience with her baby daddy. Of course there are misunderstandings along the way, as well as a side of drama and a dash of danger to add to the excitement. Ashely Erin also does a great job of building up the secondary characters. I'm definitely intrigued to read Dax and Ava's story next. There also appears there might be potential for a story with a hot professor to come, possibly paired with Kenzie? I hope she's not just teasing be cause I love a hot-for-teacher story!
Ashley Erin you are one clever, brilliant author!!! My body clock isn't your friend as I stayed up all night reading but I have just finished and oh boy did I love it. Lucas was never the asshole, I loved him from the moment he mentioned his sister and nephew. He is such a romantic guy. Love the trail hiking with the lights ahhhh that would be sheer bliss. He is strong when needed but compassionate and comforting at the same time. An all round good guy!! Andie is wonderful, despite her fears, and boy does she warrant having fears, she is still willing to take 'baby steps' towards a better life for herself. I love seeing her with her bff's she shows us her more carefree side. However, the passion, the chemistry, the heat whatever you want to call it between her and Lucas is steaming hot. I really loved how you built up the anticipation of her Dad returning but you didn't give me it when I expected it. Oh no you clever author, you kept us guessing all the way through!! I loved Dax! I am hoping his book is No Bad Boy Rule??? Him and Ava?? Please!!!! You really would think that you have been writing for years, you have a style that screams of New York Times best-selling author!! Well done Ashley, this really is fantastic!!
This was a great book! I really enjoyed this story. Ashley has a way of making you feel like you are in the story and part of the story as it unfolds.
Andie has had a hard life growing up. She has learned to distrust males. This is the reason behind her whole no asshole rule for her life. Andie transfers to Parkland College to continue her education. As she is moving into her apartment, an asshole slams the door in her face as she is trying to carry a tote as big as she is. To her dismay, the man that slams the door in her face is her next door neighbor in the apartment building. Andie decides to stick with her rule and ignore him. Her traitorous body had other ideas in mind. Her brother Dax moves in with Andie. He instantly becomes friends with Lucas, the neighbor. As Andie gets to know Lucas, she finds that her first impression of Lucas wasn't exactly accurate. However, her past keeps getting in the way of trying to establish a relationship with Lucas. How does Lucas handle Andie, her past, and her risk of flight? How is Andie able to come to terms with her past? Do they make a relationship work?
I would recommend this book to others. I immensely enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
