Published in 1980, 'B-36 in Action' is a brilliant sketch of the awesome 1950s strategic bomber, combining a brief development history with over 100 well captioned photos together with other illustrations. The title is a little odd, as the type never saw action - I guess it makes sense in the context that the aircraft did its job by keeping the peace.
Jacobsen provides a thorough overview of the B-36, famed both for its immense size and its success as a deterrent - no B-36 ever dropped a bomb or fired a shot in anger. The lavish illustrations carry the reader through all the bomber, reconnaissance, and experimental variants, including the cargo, fighter carrier, and nuclear versions.
