Let me start out by saying that this is not my preferred genre. I never would have read this style of writing on my own. That being said... I'm completely hooked! Much to my shock, I was sucked into this novel upon reading the first page. Having just lost my own sister, a lot of this book hits very close to home. I got quite attached to the characters right away. Formed alliances with some.. and hatred for others. The book is so very descriptive, you cant help but picture every detail and feel every emotion the author conveys. I laughed and cried countless times. Chapters so heart wrenching, I thought I was dying right along with the characters. Passages so endearing and comical, I thought I was bickering with my own siblings. Love scenes are vivid and beautifully descriptive without being vuglar or distasteful. This author has power. She makes you feel every emotion you can think off, all thru the eyes of very complex and well developed characters. This novel will change your views of gods and monsters alike. Sometimes things arent always what they seem. I can't wait for the next installment in this series. Fantastic read. I hung on every chapter.

Allie and Mistral are twins with supernatural powers, separated as children they are reunited as adults in this action packed beautifully detailed novel. While reading this book I really felt the loss and pain of the characters. The author has a way of really making you care about them that has you laughing when they do and crying for their heartbreak as well. This novel focuses on Mistral's tale. She is the warrior sister and her suffering and triumphs make her a character I was rooting for the whole way! Quiet and fierce she is not your usual heroine. Filled with themes like gods, magic, vengeance, family, loyalty, love and loss, Chasing Shadows is a novel the supernatural enthusiast will absolutely love! What a great starting book, I can't wait for more!

Twins Allie and Mistral share a separation through the foster system all the harder. The "Sisters of Shadow and Moonlight" series follows the sisters as they grow up and become fully immersed in a world of werewolves, demons, and supernatural powers. Urban fantasy lovers will appreciate the winks and nods to other writers in the genre (mmm...barbecue sauce). For new new fans this is a great introduction, and a fantastic chance to discovery a new writer at the beginning of her publishing career.

This is an intense book that will pull you into the world of all things Paranormal and leave you wanting more. It's a great book to start the series and the author leaves you on the last page wishing there was more to the book because you didn't want to lose any of the characters. Chasing Shadows: Book One in the Sisters of Shadows and Moonlight Series starts an amazing journey into the lives of Mistral and Allie. Separated when they were young by the tragic death of their parents, the girls grow up differently, in this book we get Mistral's story of growing up. Once they find each other again, the embark on a paranormal existence in a world where werewolves make perfect bouncers. Maren Meriel McCaffrey doesn't stop there. she brings in mythology with Hades and Ares teaming up to track the twins. The whole book is centered around Mistral. Even though there are other characters present and twisted with Mistral's life, it is from Mistral's viewpoint for the most part.
Chasing Shadows mixes the paranormal or supernatural genre's with their werewolves, vampires, and use of magic; with the mythology genre of the Greek gods bringing Hades and Ares into the mix. This is a really neat mix and something that I find refreshing in a book, it's not a mix that I have seen before. The main characters, twins Mistral and Allie are written so that you bond with them and feel for them. You want to see them triumph over the challenges and problems that they face. Maren Meriel McCaffrey does aqv wonderful job of mixing these different genre's and characters together into a cohesive story that makes sense and comes together beautifully. Definitely an adult book, but it is something that you can curl up and read, maybe over and over, because I'm sure seconding reading you would pick up on other things you missed on the first. Looking forward to Book Two!

Wow...When my sister Maren said she was writing a book I told her I'd read and review it. Wow. You can know someone all their lives and not really know what they have inside them or are capable of.
This book was amazing on so many levels. She made me cry, (which I NEVER do), she made me angry at the characters and she brought me right into the world she'd created. I didn't ever want to leave. We haven't ever really been close like some, so this review is actually pretty impartial.
I have to say that I would and am re-reading it. If you only read one book this fall make it Chasing Shadows. You won't be disappointed. It's flawlessly edited and painstakingly crafted. You would know these characters like old friends if you met them on a street or at a party. This book makes you believe in or wish for magic in life and give even the hardest heart hope of finding love. (Like mine!) This is just simply an amazing, compelling read!

Well written. Initially a story about 2 sisters appear to have a paranormal link with each. Separated as young girls by the foster care system after the death of their parents. The story morphs abruptly to a magic and "divine warrior" story with each of the sisters having parts to play in a much larger story. Although a bit abrupt in the transition the story holds although almost reads like two books. Good read! The cost of love and devotion well played. It will be interesting to see the next work of the author in this saga and to determine the cost of Shine's bargain!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The concept and thought of the story was what I would have wanted and was looking for, but the entire work was littered with typographical errors that makes me throw 3 stars out there. There definitely needs to be a revision process and a revised edition available so that others do not correct the errors while reading. It was worth reading, but was on the immature side and riddled with mistakes.
