An escape to Martha’s Vineyard. A job she never thought she’d need. The summer that changed everything.

Val Leone’s planned path to partner at her New York law firm didn’t include incapacitating burnout. But after six years of sacrificing everything to meet impossible client demands lead to a panic attack so intense she faints—in front of the head partner of her department—she has no choice but to take a break. And her beloved grandmother’s house on Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect place to get her mental health back on track.

On the island Val’s latent passion for creative writing blossoms as naturally as the cerulean blue hydrangeas in Mimi’s garden, and the salt air makes breathing feel easy. Even her dating life blooms when she begins seeing Max—a flirtatious Manhattan banker spending his summer on the Vineyard.

She can’t help but consider extending her time off, so she gets a job babysitting spunky, eight-year-old Luna for island local carpenter Luke—a gorgeous single dad who is very easy to talk to. Since then it’s felt like a surreal vacation—writing every day, biking around the island with Luna, sharing confidences with Luke on his quiet back deck, building a connection with him that could catch fire if only their circumstances were different.

But that’s a fantasy incompatible with her temporary three-month medical leave. Val couldn’t possibly give up the career she’s worked her entire life to attain. New York, her steady (if all-consuming) job, a relationship with another workaholic like Max—that’s what her future realistically holds with her return-to-work date fast approaching.

So why can’t she picture it anymore?

This steamy, coming-of-thirties story serves up romance & self-reflection in equal measures—best paired with a glass of your favorite summer wine.

❥ My Thoughts & Rating ❥

This book took me on a Summer escape from reality! This contemporary romance novel is one that I absolutely loved. I enjoyed the scenery, vivid imagery, the romance and where this book took place! It felt very real and I found it to be thought provoking and entertaining. This book takes place in Martha’s Vineyard, where a corporate lawyer from New York City takes a much needed 3 month medical leave and moves into her grandma’s home. The corporate lawyer named Val takes on a babysitting job in Martha’s Vineyard, where she meets a single Dad named Luke, who is a carpenter.

I really loved the female main character in this book and how she grew in the story. She really found her true passion while being on this island, which is creative writing. This is a coming of thirty story as Val enters a new decade in her life, while she ends up having a spicy romance with the single Dad! I really loved that Martha’s Vineyard was a place for Val not only to grow and find her true passion, it was also a place of support and belonging to her. They become friends first, then lovers in this slow burn romance story. Luke falls for her first in this forced proximity situation.

The writing of this story is excellent, it came with a clear thesis and I found the plot to be well executed! I really like that it showed a vulnerable side to the female main character as she processes to recover from her mental health. The location was absolutely stunning, as it is set in Martha’s Vineyard. I found this book to be memorable and was fully immersed while reading it. The characters were lovable, especially Val. It came with a unique location and came with a satisfying conclusion! Be sure to read the content warnings! Overall, I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars!

❥ Who I think would enjoy this book ❥

I think anyone who is looking for a great island romance, with emotional depth to it, would really enjoy reading this book!

❥ Thank You ❥

Thank you to the author Maria Anne Lenihan for this electronic arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Morning Glory Girl by Maria Anne Lenihan is a heartwarming coming‑of‑thirties contemporary romance about Val Leone, a high‑achieving New York City lawyer who suddenly burns out spectacularly after six years of relentless work that culminates in a panic attack so intense she faints in front of her head partner. Forced onto medical leave, Val retreats to her grandmother’s house on Martha’s Vineyard to reset, recover, and rethink what success means while soaking in island life, fresh air, and hydrangea‑lined beaches.

What starts as a meant‑to‑be‑short break becomes a journey of self‑reflection, rediscovered creativity, and unexpected romance when she takes a babysitting job with Luke, a kind local carpenter and single dad, whose easy warmth contrasts sharply with her old fast‑paced life. Alongside a flirtatious summer fling with a Manhattan banker named Max and the joyful presence of Luke’s daughter, Luna, Val is forced to question whether her old career dream still fits the life she wants now.

From the very first scenes I felt this story in my bones because it captures that all‑too‑real burnout moment so vividly: Val’s panic and exhaustion are described in a way that makes you physically feel her struggle, and her search for meaning beyond billable hours and accolades deeply resonated. As she reconnects with her latent passion for creative writing in the gentle rhythm of island life, the story became something more than just a romance: it’s a beautiful exploration of self‑worth, healing, and the courage to redefine success on your own terms. The romance with Luke unfolds naturally and slowly but meaningfully, grounded not in instant fireworks but in shared moments, mutual respect, and quiet smiles over sandy beaches and bedtime stories with Luna.

I liked how relatable Val’s emotional journey feels and how the setting of Martha’s Vineyard becomes almost like a character itself, with sea breezes and bike rides enhancing every page of self‑discovery and romance.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I’m giving Morning Glory Girl four stars because it gently, honestly, and beautifully captures both the vulnerabilities and triumphs of rediscovering yourself, all while delivering a warm, slow‑burn romance that feels earned rather than rushed. Val’s transformation from workaholic exhaustion to creative confidence and open‑hearted possibility was truly moving, and watching her grow alongside Luke and little Luna left me smiling long after the last page.

This is the perfect summer escape if you enjoy romances that pair emotional depth with cozy island vibes and characters you genuinely root for.

Val Leone has always had once goal - making partner - even if it is at the cost of friends, family, romance, and any free time. That is until she hits an absolute wall and receives a medical leave of absence because of the stress and pressure. In an effort to reclaim herself, she travels from NYC to Martha’s Vineyard to spend the summer with her grandmother and exploring her passion for creative writing. But going from a constant grind to no work doesn’t sit right with her, so she decides to try her hand at being a nanny. Which is how she meets 8yo Luna and her dad Luke. As she begins to rediscover herself, Val begins to question if the career she trained her whole life for is the future she wants.

I really loved Val’s journey in this book - working so hard towards a singular goal, struggling with the implications of potentially trading one dream for another, and the perception of others in making that choice. It felt like a deeply relatable crossroads and was handled with a lot of thoughtfulness. The charming way Val and Luna connect, the tender story of Luke and Luna, and how Lenihan didn’t drop Luke in as the perfect love interest right away. This is definitely a slow-burn story for Luke and Val - and I was there for every minute. Probably one of my favorite single parent romances as I felt like the way they both addressed Luna and the importance of gently navigating a relationship with someone who is a parent.

A love letter to small-town Martha’s Vineyard and finding your passion.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Morning Glory Girl, and have nothing but good things to say—it reminded me of novels by Emily Henry! It is a must read this summer, and for summers to come, and debut author Maria Anne Lenihan is one to watch!

The main characters are complex, dynamic, and infinitely lovable from the opening pages, which made me keep reading to find out everything about their lives and stories! Val, Luke, and Luna feel like people I’ve known for years, which is a true testament to the writing.

I firmly believe that side characters are the lifeblood of any excellent novel, and the ones here are no different—Mimi deserves the book equivalent of the Oscar for best supporting actress! Natalie, Jeremiah, and Francesca are friends that any of us would be lucky to have, and Max makes a perfect villain.

The author managed to perfectly capture the very essence that is the story’s idyllic setting of Martha’s Vineyard. If you’ve been there before, you will instantly be transported back; if you haven’t, you’ll want to immediately book a trip!

Morning Glory Girl is for everyone, but especially anyone who is struggling in a high-pressure career. It will make you feel seen, supported, and understood in a way only those who’ve been there before can do! It made me laugh, blush, smile, and think about what’s really important in this life. I can’t recommend it enough. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought I was done reading summer books but when I received a copy of this one from the lovely author, I knew I had to read it. Isn’t the cover so pretty? Thankfully the cover isn’t the only thing beautiful about this book. The story, characters, setting, and romance are gorgeous too! I loved Val, our FMC, so much. I felt so connected to her and loved watching her bloom without the stress of corporate life. If I were in her shoes I’d never want to leave either. Especially because there’s a very special man (and his daughter) that steals her heart. I also loved the setting. I actually live in MA but haven’t been to Martha’s Vineyard and I don’t think I NEED to after reading this story. Sure, it makes me WANT to visit the area but the way she describes the setting is enough because I felt like I was right there with these characters.

Overall, I adored this book. It’s starting to get cold in my area and this book made me warm right up! I can’t wait to read more from the author because I loved her writing and the way she wrote these characters. I highly recommend it!

Luke and Luna have absolutely stolen the show.

I'm in awe of what these two have endured and how Luna is thriving despite it all.

As for our main character, Val, my biggest gripe with her is what she's working through the whole book: her people-pleasing tendencies. She cares so much about what other people think that she's quick to turn her life around with just one comment. It's frustrating! However, all the work she did to improve and discover herself without anyone else's approval was beautiful to see—she deserves so much more than she gave herself credit for at the beginning of the story.

I also want to quickly point out what a weirdo one of these guys was and how he was such a foil to our beautiful, supportive, and loving Luke. Clearly, I have a soft spot for this man because how could I not swoon over a man who was so obviously written by a woman. He was amazing and I'm glad he also found what he was looking for that summer.

Then we have Drew and O, who we get just the briefest snippets into their lives... I think their story would be worth reading too.

Set in Martha's Vineyard, Morning Glory Girl by Maria Anne Lenihan is a summer romance story that is full of so much self-reflection and growth. It's the perfect balance of heavy, difficult emotions and light banter that turns a slow burn into steamy scenes.

Thanks to Maria Anne Lenihan and Hayling Bookstorm Ltd. for the ARC!

A fresh take on summer romance 🥰 Morning Glory Girl is *everything* I want in a summer read — a charming setting, a romance that builds naturally, and a main character I was genuinely rooting for from page one. Val burns out from her career in NYC (hello relatable!) and spends time resetting on Martha’s Vineyard for the summer (if only I had a grandmother with a house on the vineyard!). Her story is as much about rediscovering her passions and redefining success as it is about falling in love. The island setting is vivid and transporting — you can practically hear the waves and feel the warm breeze — and the romance has just the right amount of spice to keep you turning the pages. Anyone who has spent time on the Cape or Islands will know how authentic Maria’s descriptions are. The characters feel layered and real, making their relationships all the more satisfying to watch unfold. This is the kind of book you finish with a smile, wishing you could stay in Val’s world just a little longer! Perfect for anyone who wants their beach read to have both heart and depth (and a little heat 🔥)!

I really really liked this book. I received it as an ARC from Hayling bookstorm and I'm so happy that I did. It starts off with Val, our FMC, as a super intense, high powered lawyer - trying to make partner in a NYC law firm. She is working night and day and miserable. When she gets told that she isn't working hard enough - she faints and decides to make some life changes. Taking medical leave and going off to Martha's Vineyard for the summer is the best thing ever. Val starts to regain a little bit of herself and finds something that she loves. She also finds a love interest (or 2) but it's really all about Luke as the MMC. There are some struggles and questioning that Val has to figure out - but overall - it's a fantastic book. One that highlights how bad burnout can really be, which is one of the most important messages out of this book. I'll absolutely be reading more from this author in the future.

Thank you Hayling Bookstorm Ltd. for the ARC! This was such a fun summer read and now I have Martha's vineyard on my list to visit!

Not going to lie, I take a lot of books personally and this was no exception. Val was such a relatable FMC to me, especially since I am approaching my 30s and have experienced burnout. I absolutely loved going through her journey as she comes to the realization of what she wants for herself and for her career. This is the validation I needed as well as a good reminder that you don't have to to stick with the same career despite going to school for it and it would be a "waste".

The romance aspect was an important part of the book but not the focal point. It complemented the main plot perfectly. All the subplots were perfect. Val had such a sweet slow burn romance and it was not dramatic which was much-needed right now.

I really enjoyed this- it had one of the strongest starts to a romance novel I’ve ever read (could viscerally feel the burnout). I try not to judge books by their cover, but this title and cover art almost stopped me from reading it…and in hindsight I feel like they’re definitely letting the book down!

I tried but it was so so boring and writing is dull. Sorry - I know this is a new author and I hate to be discouraging but maybe this will inspire getting a better editor? Solid premise but less than stellar execution. Not sure I made it past chapter 3. Maybe it gets better but did not stick around to find out.

Morning Glory was a nice, easy read—with just enough moments to make you want to scream at the characters (in the best way). Val is incredibly easy to love and relate to. It wasn’t as spicy as I expected—not a bad thing—but when it does finally heat up… whew. Heartburn-worthy. Overall, it’s a feel-good, aww-inducing love story that leaves you wanting more.

Title: Morning Glory Girl
Author: Maria Anne Lenihan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Pages: 376

Rating: 4.5⭐️/5 (rounded up!)

“You shouldn’t worry more about disappointing others than you do about disappointing yourself.”

Valerie Leone, 31, a high-achieving NYC lawyer, hits a breaking point after a panic attack and a cutting comment from her partner force her to pause. Years of chasing success—and a messy on-and-off relationship with her ex, Chris—have left her exhausted. After realizing he only wanted her in his law life, not his real one, Val takes a sabbatical. She heads first to her parents’ home in New Hampshire, then to her grandmother’s house in Martha’s Vineyard. At the cozy Morning Glory Farm, she has a meet-cute with Luke and starts dating Max—a charming finance guy and the son of a famous romance author. While babysitting on the island, she forms a slow-burn, friends-first connection with Luke, a successful self-made contractor and guardian to Luna. What she finds there is nothing like what she left behind in Manhattan.

Set against the vivid, cozy backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard, this book has real depth and soul. Val’s personal journey—rediscovering writing, healing from burnout, and redefining success in her thirties—felt raw, relatable, and genuinely empowering. It’s a beautiful reminder to never settle for anything less than what truly sparks joy in your heart. The romance? Slow-burn perfection. Val and Luke’s chemistry builds gradually, but I never got bored—if anything, I was giggling the whole time! My favorite scenes? Mimi watching Val stare out the window—and that “Are you a medium?” line was a clever, laugh-out-loud surprise that lightened the mood just right! If you love character-driven stories with found family vibes, emotional depth, and a dash of humor, this one’s a must-read. A fantastic debut from the author!

A big thanks to Hayling Bookstorm Ltd. and Maria Anne Lenihan for providing me with a digital ARC of this book!

This book has so many of the things I love: a plucky heroine who leaves behind a soul-destroying job, a too good to be true single dad, and a beautiful beachy setting. Whether you're at the beach or just dreaming about it, it's a perfect summer read with a great character arc in addition to some (eventually) steamy romance.

Val is a corporate attorney on her way to making partner when an unreasonable boss triggers a panic attack. Realizing her body needs a break, she takes a medical leave and heads to Martha's Vineyard to help her grandmother. There she begins to discover her true passion--writing--and takes a babysitting gig watching a precocious 8 year old. But when she falls for the hunky single dad, she needs to decide what's really important in life.

This is not just a romance novel. Val's self-discovery arc was handled with care, and the romance really doesn't come in heavy until the last third or so. When the spice hits, it does hit pretty hard. The girl Val babysits is absolutely adorable, and Luke is dreamy even when he's totally platonic.

It's clear the author is writing from personal experience. Being a recovered workaholic girlie myself, I was honestly getting a bit stressed in the beginning when Val was stuck in her toxic job. I was so relieved once she headed to the beach!

Morning Glory Girl includes a sweet, swoon-worthy couple you'll want to root for, some great supporting characters, a lovely setting, and the escapist HEA we all need nowadays. Recommended for anyone who likes their contemporary romance slow-burn with a big serving of self-growth or enjoys stories about 30-somethings breaking free and changing their lives for the better.

Thanks to Maria Anne Lenihan and Hayling Bookstorm Ltd. for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

I was stressing with Val at the beginning because she was doing her best and overexerting herself. The life of a workaholic really takes a toll on you.

This was the perfect story to begin the summer. The setting in Martha's Vineyard was perfect. It’s great coming back to a place you love to rest and reconnect with yourself and there is nothing more relaxing than the beach, right?  I really liked the descriptions of the places Val was visiting and I felt like I was being transported there.

I enjoyed reading how Val was rediscovering herself, enjoying the simple things in life, working on her mental health, physical health, and her passions throughout the book. Her family and friends were so supportive of her decisions. The side characters really added to the essence of the book.

I loved all the cute moments she had with Luke and his daughter Luna. He is so great for her and so understanding of what she is going through. I also liked how Val explored a different aspect of life with Luna. I am becoming a fan of hot single dads in books. Especially when they are green flags like Luke.

Some characters make her second guess herself again and she makes bad decisions that affect a specific interpersonal relationship. We see other characters struggle with their insecurities as well but in the end, we get the perfect start of a new beginning for them.

Not every new journey is easy. Being in a new place can alter your way of thinking for the better and changing your career doesn't mean you are a failure. The book reminded me that taking a leap of faith towards something new could make you happy and that is never too late to start over.

Thank you to Hayling Bookstorm Ltd and to the author for the ARC copy. This is my honest opinion.

Val is having a mental breakdown. Work is demanding everything from her and still wants more, but there's nothing left in her to give. She never sees her family or friends anymore, and what is sleep?? But how can she give up her big job, she could make partner soon?!
Luke kind of has life sorted. The only thing he's missing is a life partner to go through all the ups and downs of life with. He's kind and caring, he works hard, and has strong family values. He's supportive, and he listens. He's just never met someone who is as serious about him and his family as he is about them.

This book!!!!! Oh myyyyy, I am head over heels for Luke **SWOON**. If only he were real! The way he shows up for the people he cares about, even if they can't reciprocate in the moment, is honestly incredible. He's just the definition of the perfect boyfriend. And now I'm going to stop harping on about him 😅
This book has everything you want and need in a romance novel - FMC going through some challenges in life and trying to figure things out. Moves to the small town for the summer. Meets a guy, goes on some dates, and has a great time. In the meantime, she's got a little part-time nannying gig to help out with money. Really enjoys spending time with the family and gets along really well with the Dad. She's discovering herself again and what really matters to her heart. I don't want to give away anything else because it is just the most beautiful story, and I loved each element that brought it together. The fact that she's a book girlie at heart, too, is just *chefs kiss*.
Thank you, Maria Anne Lenihan and Hayling Bookstorm LTD, for the opportunity to read this ARC! I can't wait to see more from this author

this book was a perfect summer read!!

as the book starts out, we see that val is a lawyer for a big company and she is constantly overworking herself. i feel bad for her, she has no hobbies, no friends, and no time for anything besides work. her family keeps telling her to take a break and she won’t listen. she then proceeds to faint at work and needs to take a mental health break. so she comes to martha’s vineyard to live with her mimi to relax and recover and figure out if she still wants the career of constantly being on call and having almost impossible deadlines. while on leave she decides she wants to make some extra income and become a babysitter, but she doesn’t realize that she’s gonna be a babysitter for a hot single dad that won’t stop stealing glances at her.

val is a very relatable character, she shows us that it’s okay to not have everything figured out. we see her wrestle with to doing what she went to school for (law) and/or becoming a writer which is what she’s truly passionate about.

luke is the hot single dad who has the sweetest heart. he is so supportive of val and her dreams from the very beginning. him and his daughter luna are so welcoming. luna is the most adorable little girl and i love seeing her relationship with val. i feel like i’ve known all these characters for years with the way the author describes them.

if you’ve been to martha’s vineyards im officially jealous, and i’m booking a trip immediately. i felt like i was truly transported there through her writing. it was the PERFECT summer read!! i wish i could read it for the first time again.

“What would I do if I cared more about disappointing myself than I did about disappointing everyone else?”

Good grief I LOVED this so much. First of all, if you’ve ever worked in a field where 16 hour days, no boundaries, and baseline high blood pressure was the norm, this novel is for you. (& I worked in COVID comms so I’m looking at my former colleagues here!!!)

Val is in her 30’s and working a soul sucking corporate law job that is slowly stealing her joy. The early chapters of this novel see her burnout happen in real time and I have to tell you, it’s quite hard to read on the page when you’ve felt it yourself. But push through because on the other side of this is Val’s decision to take a break.

Enter: her Grandmother’s house on Martha’s Vineyard - a home that Val spent her summers in growing up. As she navigates the “what now?” Of her life, she takes on a nannying job for a single dad. I’m not telling you more because that plotline speaks for itself!

You can expect a deliciously slow burn (and also some very fun flirty banter that includes a saw and a backwards cap!), a whole lot of soul searching, a cast of characters you’ll become attached to, and a very necessary reminder that it’s quite normal not to have your shit together in this 30-something chapter of life. You can start new anytime. What a magical reality 🥹.

Last weekend I got to chat with Maria during a New England Small Town Romance panel at @purplecouchbookshop and hearing her talk about the origins of this novel and what’s next was just incredible.

Please, please, please read this stunning novel from fellow Boston-area neighbor @booksbymaria.a.lenihan - it just made my heart so happy.

This book made me feel very seen given things occurring in my real life. The fmc, Val, is a corporate lawyer who is incredibly burnt out from her job and hits a breaking point. She is taking the steps to take some time for herself to find what actually makes her happy but is struggling because she cares too much about what other people think about her. She doesn’t want to be viewed as a failure by others given her successful career so far. But what is a successful career if she is miserable and has nearly no life outside of work? Reading about Val going through all of this was incredibly relatable.

A lot of the story is focused on her growth and figuring out what she wants to do with her future. The romance comes second and is sprinkled throughout as a slower burn. It felt like there was a perfect balance of the romance and her dealing with her burnout. The romance was really well done and was not one of those instances of because she found love she was now content with life. Throughout the book she is working through her burnout and makes sure to find a path for her life that will make her happy outside of the love she found with the mmc, Luke. Because of all of this I liked that the book was only in her POV. While Luke was a lovely character, the story really is about Val and the focus needed to stay on her.

Burnout doesn’t always come crashing in. Sometimes it creeps—quietly, invisibly—until the ambition that once lit you up becomes the very thing hollowing you out. That’s the space where Morning Glory Girl found me. It didn’t scream for attention. It whispered things I didn’t know I needed to hear. Val Leone isn’t just a protagonist—she’s a reflection. A woman who’s spent years hustling in Big Law, chasing a version of success that slowly burned her out. When her body finally says “enough,” she heads to Martha’s Vineyard for what she thinks is a pause. What unfolds is a reckoning. This book isn’t just a romance—though yes, the banter sizzles and the love triangle (hello, Max vs. Luke) had me hooked. It’s about coming home to yourself. Relearning softness. Unlearning the hustle-for-worth narrative so many of us have swallowed whole. The Vineyard isn’t just a setting; it’s a character. The sea air, the stillness, the space between moments—it all held Val while she began the slow, honest work of remembering who she was before the title, the blazer, the grind. The scenes with Luna cracked my heart open. The quiet steadiness of Luke? A lesson in how love can be calm, not just fireworks. This novel reminded me that healing doesn’t have to be dramatic to be real. That solitude isn’t the same as loneliness. That ambition and joy aren’t enemies. Morning Glory Girl gave me permission to want something gentler. To want more than just surviving. If you’ve ever stood in your bathroom, staring at your reflection, wondering how your life got so far from your heart—this one’s for you.

Oh my gosh I’m in love.

With this book, with the MC, with the love interest, with his daughter, with the Nantucket beach summer… everything about this book was just beautiful.

I absolutely loved the thread of choices and reflection through this book. Val is exhausted and burnt out by her corporate life and is looking to take care of her health and rediscover herself. And that hits hard. I feel like we’ve all been there, we’ve all gone through something similar, and seeing her make the hard choice and blossom throughout the book as she finds herself is so beautiful. The moment she hopped back on that bus I was cheeeering for her.

Her relationship with the MMC is a slow grow and slow burn and I love the was she just slides into his life like she was meant to be there. The contrast between her two love interests is stark and I appreciate the way it so appropriately mimics her past and hopes for the future. Her choice between them and between her job prospects moving forward just feel so mirrored and I love her realizations about it.

Luna is an absolute joy and I loved the importance of her character. She’s not just the love interests child - she’s her own person, part of the story, and an individual, which I feel gets missed a lot in single parent stories.

Overall, this is such a cute romance and you should read it. It feels so classic New England summer and I love it.

*I received a copy of this book as an ARC. This review and thoughts are mine alone.*

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

As a born and raised New Englander, i was so excited to start this.

Val is an overworked lawyer, in a male dominated office, who has felt so much burnout that she’s all but forced to take a break. Martha’s Vineyard is a place where she’s spent so much of her time, but due to a hectic work schedule, has been unable to visit for a while.

In comes Mimi, the spitfire who has all of the sass, and shows you what’s been in front of you all along.

Luke and Luna are a great duo who pull in Val with their charm, hummus, and braid, and the cutest dragon movie that no one can resist.

With a sidetrack from Max (jerk), and the never ending fear of letting down everyone you care about, Val makes the decision to do what makes HER happy.

To me, this was a perfect blend of never giving up on your dreams, and knowing your self worth.

Plus the love that Val and Luke find is something truly swoon worthy..

It’s taken me time to formulate just how much i loved this, but i simply can’t say anything other than well done.

It was really hit or miss whether I was actually enjoying this or not. But it started to hit as I got closer to the middle through to the end. I really related to Val. If you’re a 30-something millennial woman and realizing that you’re unsatisfied with where you are in life (career, personal, etc.), this is the book for you. There were times when I found her pretty annoying, but I also couldn’t fault her because I have been her. She doubted herself and worried too much about others’ opinions of her. We’ve all been there.

There were two love interests and I sniffed out a love triangle as soon as both Max (one she started dating pretty early on in the story) and Luke entered the chat. I immediately got bad vibes from Max immediately. He was giving Chuck from Gossip Girl in the earlier seasons. I think you can guess who I was rooting for 😏

Mental health representation was well researched and perfect in this. The way Maria described having a panic attack and feeling burn out was spot on.

I felt really seen reading this.

Thank you to Hayling Bookstorm and Maria for sending me an ARC and giving me the opportunity to read this story.

“I was going to say…I’m becoming addicted to seeing you at my table when I get home every day.”

Morning Glory Girl was such a fun summer read! I loved Val as a character and could relate so much to putting what I thought I would want ahead of what I really wanted. I was so proud when she took the time off to handle her mental and physical health and decide what it was she wanted to do. Luke was such a swoony, romantic MMC and I loved how their relationship progressed. I liked that they got to know each other on a personal and professional level before anything romantic happened. Luna was absolutely adorable and I loved how well Val clicked with her. The setting was amazing and Martha’s Vineyard has been added to my must see list of places. Really, there wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about this book. In fact, while I didn’t think Max was a good fit for Val, I’d love to see him get a redemption story where he does meet the right person and learns to be a better partner. I was surprised to see that this seems to be the author’s first book and I am looking forward to reading more of her work. Perhaps Natalie needs a happily ever after?

I loved this! I read this during a heatwave and it was the perfect sunny weather book. I didn’t read the blurb before going into it, so had zero expectations. I love the single parent trope, so was very glad to be surprised with this one! The vibes are all there, the writing flows very naturally and the representation of mental health is always good to see. The characters were well established, I particularly enjoyed Val’s relationship with herself and the path of growth she endures.
The slow burn romance was well timed for me and the whole story felt well paced. Luna is as cute as her name, I found myself smiling at her a lot! As a debut novel, this is excellent. As I’ve mentioned, the writing is very natural, especially by the end of the book. The setting and the way it was described reminded me of how Emily Henry writes her summer settings, putting me right in the mood to sit by a pool somewhere!

Thank you for the ARC and I’m excited to see what Lenihan writes next.

This debut novel by Maria Anne Lenihan was absolutely incredible. It hit close to home for me due to the high pressure job and the need for a break. Add the setting of the Hamptons, I could feel stress leaving my body.

It was a complex and dynamic read with use of the main characters, Val, Luke and Lana. Her usage of side characters, enriched and added depth to the story. The two top side characters for me were the perfect friend we all need, Francesca and the villian, Max.

While there is a love story, it wasn’t the focus; rather Luna’s journey. Her journey through acceptance of just because you have a degree for something, doesn’t mean you don’t have options. You can create new opportunities and people you meet along the way can help you validate changes.

In addition, changes are needed for both your physical and mental health. This was another top five read for me.

Thank you to Hayling Bookstorm and the author for an ARC.

i was so excited to read this because the premise itself (minus the hot carpenter) is something i’m currently experiencing 🙋🏻‍♀️

unfortunately… that’s about where the good ended 🫠

when i say that val was insufferable with the personality of a paper towel, i ain’t lying. like GIRL… all that therapy and you STILL needed someone else/a man to tell you what to think and do in the end? ugh. her inner monologue was so repetitive and whiny and annoying, i genuinely couldn’t stand her by the end of the whole thing 🚫 also the frequent comments about her weight/body/going to the gym/oh my jeans fit me again everything is okay, it’s 2025!!! why are we still doing this?! 👎🏻

all the characters were flat and uninteresting, except my girls mimi & luna 💖 and my god if they mentioned her golden brown hair, luke’s chiseled features or her wasted education one more time i was gonna scream 😱

don’t @ me but this was so bad 💔
