The one that got away – is now LA’s hottest property!

The last time fashion student Magenta Plumtree saw aspiring actor Alex Wells, she was wearing a sexy Santa outfit and killer heels, and he was kissing her senseless! But before she got to enjoy the full benefits of her very fit friend, he left the next morning for LA and stardom…

Now ten years later Maggie’s an in-demand fashionista and her latest job? To style the stars of hit TV show Mercy of the Vampires – none other than twin hotties Alex and Nick Wells! Though if Fate has given her one more chance with the gorgeous Alex, it’s got a sick sense of humour, as Maggie has refused to wait for Mr Right and plans to embark on single motherhood! But the inconveniently electric attraction is definitely still there, and with Alex by her side through the whirl of pregnancy tests and glittering premieres, has Maggie found the one man worth waiting for?

not a bad read - a bit redundant in places, but a cute second chances romance with a touch of the movie "the back-up plan" (j-lo)

What if He’s the One? by Kathy Jay is a love story that transcends time and distance. Sometimes you are just destined to be with someone and no amount of time will change that. This is where we meet Maggie. She has been in love with her friend Alex for years. There was once a chance that they would get together but when an opportunity for him to star in the next big fantasy programme occurs he has to take it. The only problem being that it will leave Maggie in London while he is in America.

Fast-forward ten years later and the pair meet again. The sparks are still there but has life moved on too much for them to make it work?

Kathy Jay explores so much in What if He’s the One? Unrequited love, independence, and heartbreak to name but a few; she ultimately she makes you fall in love with her two main characters. Due to the dual narrative you spend half your time in complete anguish because you know that they both still love each other and the sexual tension bounces off the page. It is almost agony to read.

If you are a fan of love stories then Kathy Jay doesn’t disappoint with What if He’s the One?

Maggie and Alex knew each other 10 years earlier and nearly slept together but in the end they decided not to and since Alex was going to LA they would say goodbye and they would speak after he comes back. After 10 years of no contact and Alex Wells and his brother Nick have found their fortune and fame in LA on a TV show.

Maggie is now working as a stylist and has been hired to outfit them for a photoshoot and she thinks she will meet Alex in Boston in a couple of days but little does she know that she is upgraded to business class and her new seat mate is none other than Alex.

They both decide seperately that they don't want a relationship with each other and think they can get the shoot done and go there own ways, but Alex kisses Maggie after the last shoot has completed and he invites her to New York to attend a Premiere of his film and a charity event.

Can they manage to stay as friends or do they give in to temptation.

I really can't remember a book that rating it and writing review would give me such a headache as this one. I couldn't settle for a rating for a long time, first it was something between two and three - stars reading for me, but there was something interesting, something very potential in writing style and the story itself which finally made me decide on giving the book 4 stars.

I will be honest - you know me, and you know that I am a total sucker for a good cover, and it was in fact the cover of the book that made me click the "Request" button, and only then I read the synopsis. The cover is really one of the nicest and it caught my eyes immediately!

My biggest problem was that for a long time I had a feeling that the book is turning in circles. I was sure that if I - again - am going to read about Maggie or Alex finding excuses for themselves, explaining what happened on this night, in fact thinking about this night, mentioning it at all, I'm going to start shouting, banging my head on the wall and kicking with frustration. Too much of this, too much! In how many words can you write about the same situation from only two different perspectives??? And why did every situation in a book lead to them both mentioning the night? I was tired with the memories and I was longing for the book to finally kick off, waiting for action.

And this is the second problem. Or can I call it a problem at all? Because there was not much happening, the whole book was for me more like a kind of Maggie and Alex's memories, and those some events that DID take place in the book were more like a bonus maybe. There was only Maggie travelling to Boston, the charity event, the red - carpet premiere and the rest was, in fact, wondering "what if".

But still, the storyline was in some ways engaging. It brings up issues of having a sperm donor baby, of single parenthood and how it can and could influence the children's lives. And if being a non - biological father is important. Alex couldn't come to terms with Maggie's decision because his own father was not his real, biological one and he felt that he was despised by him, that he could never live up to his expectations and feared that raising up children that were not his own will make him like his own father towards him - cold and indifferent, and this is why he didn't want to commit, didn't want to have children. For Maggie it didn't matter, she wanted her own family and basta.

And somehow, among those memories, the characters were finding their ways to each other, they were discovering each other anew. The long descriptions and long inner - monologues about the same thing apart, the characters were likeable and well written., although I missed a little some more depth to them, they weren't 3D, they were not popping out of the pages but nevertheless, they were interesting and had a real feeling to them. I liked Alex - yes, he was a film star, but he wasn't arrogant and behaving like a queen bee, there was a neighbourhood buddy feel to him. Maggie wasn't perhaps as complex as I'd like the characters to be, she was working hard to be able to fulfil her dream of becoming a mum and I think it isn't in our hands to judge her how she chose to become this mother. I rather admired her and her decision.

So. Yes. You see? The book made me howl with desperation but on the other hand, it was written in a great way, a way that just enchanted me and I found myself totally engrossed in the story. The characters were in fact well written, and the author gave us a possibility to look into the celebrity - part as well, I for example hadn't have any idea that the stars only show themselves on the red carpet and then disappear, not taking the trouble with watching the film they were invited to. I must admit, the idea of the vampire - film is already so old, so I would rather see Alex and his brother in other kind of film but well, you can't have everything.

So really, I don't remember a book that made me have so many mixed feelings about it, but in the end it just had me hooked and liking the story. It was just written in an excellent, engaging way and well, yes, I truly enjoyed this novel.

What If He's the One? caught my eye because of two initial attractions. One was towards the cover which intrigued me and then the title of the book which again had me returning to check this book out!

Then when I read the blurb, I knew that I just had to read this book.

The book narrates the story of Maggie and her first love Alex who left her ten years ago to become an actor. Now, Maggie is a budding fashion stylist and thinks that she has moved on from the whole Alex episode while Alex is the very famous heartthrob and the sexiest vampire in the hit vampire series running on TV! As fate will have it, Alex and Maggie are thrown together and what ensues is both funny and heart touching. Will these two re-ignite their past love or have they really moved on?

I loved Maggie's character. She is funny, independent, slightly lovestruck and majority spooked by her family history. Watching her reactions when she meets Alex after all these years and reading her thoughts all through the book had me giggling, laughing and then going misty eyed. Alex is the handsome yet gentleman hero in the book who had me falling for him right from the start. He is considerate, compassionate and very down-to-earth. Sacrificing his own dreams to give a boost to his brother's, he is a hero who endeared himself to me and had me rooting for a happy, love filled life for him. Alex's twin brother, Nick is shown as a swaggering socialite who sometimes seems even mean and unconcerned for anyone's needs except his own but despite that I just knew he had a good heart and now I am eager to read his own story. I hope Kathy writes his story soon.

The author's writing style is simple, engaging and very descriptive. She vividly sketches the places, events and characters so that it is almost automatic that the story plays like a movie in the readers' minds. She balanced the romance, humour and the serious part of the story well in the book.

Although the overall story is sweet, it is not without some cons. Firstly, Maggie's reasons for not pursuing Alex in the current time get a bit repetitive and although fully valid, I just felt the repetition could have been held off. Secondly, all through the book the reader is given a sense that Nick is not happy with Alex and is planning something drastic. Also he is shown like a spoilt, arrogant and almost villainous twin brother which does not amount to anything in the end. He is suddenly thrown in the angel's role which struck me as odd. What was the need for showing him in a bad light, in the first place?

All in all, What If He's the One? is a fully entertaining, sweet and enjoyable romance that had me completely engrossed all through the book. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers. I laughed, giggled, rooted and got misty eyed while reading this book as I am sure you all will too. Kathy is a talented writer and I am going to keep a lookout for her future books.

I received the book from NetGalley and the publishers, HarperImpulse and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Ten years ago Magenta had an almost one night stand with good friend Alex Wells. The next day he and his twin brother, Nick went to LA, and were cast as twin vampires in what became hit TV show Mercy of the Vampires.

Ten years later Magenta now a fashion stylist, is asked to style the brothers for some promotional work in Boston. And so she is reunited with Alex for the first. As the story progresses it is clear that both of them have had the same thoughts over the years, of was the other their "one".

There is a lot of, what if's in this book, but there is also a lovely story dealing with artificial insemination and the true meaning of what it is to be a parent.

Unfortunately I just did't completely gel with the book, I thought it was enjoyable, but I found myself getting far more distracted by my surroundings reading this, than I have done for ages, which to me is proof that it isn't quite the book for me.

There are some lovely descriptions and some very entertaining scenes, and it is a sweet romance, with some fabulous chemistry.

I received a copy of this book from netgalley in return for an honest review...,

This is the story of Magenta Plumetree and
Alex Wells. They had almost had a romantic night together the night before Alex and his twin brother Nick were set to leave for L.A. For Christmas. 10 years later she is a stylist to the stars in London and he is a television star. This is the story about what happens when they are thrown together after so long and them trying to fight their true feeling for the other.
I really liked this book but it does go round in circles at points and kinda gives you a feeling of " didn't I already read that " but even with that I liked this book a lot !!

I really hope that there are more books to follow up with all the characters in the book and where they go from where this book leaves off !!!!

This is a story about people meeting up after a long time and how their relationship develops from there. It was a sweet and engaging romance book but I've felt like something is lacking there. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable quick read and I don't regret picking it up. I'd recommend it as a light read for the summertime or long rainy evening.
