Mom has decided she will take down all the bins so we could celebrate dress up day. I was afraid when I saw the first dress up idea---that of a princess, this might turn out to be a stereotypical book. Far from it, the author portrays boys and girls of many cultures and backgrounds. They are planning so many careers, farming, flying, teaching, fireman, chef, builder, scientist....I could go on and on. The text is written in rhyme and the author presents interesting scenarios for each profession. At the end of the day, mom reinforces the fact that she will be proud of any person the child chooses to be.
Illustrations are bold, colorful and clever. Text is rhythmic and enjoyable for young children, yet challenging enough for the beginning reader. Makes a great read aloud and starting point of discussion for career possibilities.
