Cadet Blues

Rate this book
"A hilarious and inspiring story of academy survival." The California Highway Patrol Academy is by far one of the toughest law enforcement training facilities in the world. Completing the rigorous six month curriculum is not an easy task and many people fail to graduate. Cadet Blues is the story of one cadet who is desperately trying to survive the experience so he can earn the right to wear the seven point badge and call himself an officer. Cadet Blues is a must read for anyone planning on attending a law enforcement academy, and a great read for anyone else who wondered what the academy experience is like.

Slice of Life

Very entertaining account of a young man's experiences in a police academy. Even though the subject matter wasn't something I'd normally be interested in, I was hooked from beginning to end, thanks to the author's writing style. I had no idea that police training was so intense. It requires an extraordinary amount of dedication. I hope there is a sequel in the works.

Eye Opening

I was recommended to read this book while a loved one was in the academy. After reading it, it helped me understand all the cadets really go through. If you have a family member or loved one in the CHP read this!

If you’ve ever thought about becoming an officer or are simply interested on how the CHP academy works.. I’d greatly recommend this book! It was written by a cadet and let me just say, he does not hold back! I will be joining the CHP academy this August and this book was extremely reflective on what I’ve heard about the academy. Being one of the most excruciating police academy, the author does a great job emphasizing both the work, emotion and thoughts that goes into being a CHP cadet.

Happy 20th CTC I-98!!

A great 'non-fiction/fiction' first hand account (names have been changed to protect the guilty, innocent, idiots, & a-holes) of the CHP academy. It gave me nightmares... but mostly I laughed. A lot. Krider has such a great way with words. It was funny in so many different ways - funny only because it's not happening to me way, funny because it's so bizarre you can't even make some of this stuff up if you tried, and funny because if you didn't laugh you'd cry. I definitely teared up when it came time for graduation.

This is a MUST READ for
- any CHP officer that wants to reminisce about the longest 6 months of their lives

- all officer's significant others and family members so they can get the whole story on what was probably the longest 6 months of their lives as well. There's only so much that you'll hear about on their weekends home - I know that first hand. My husband was a classmate of "Cadet Karter" so, while I had heard some of these stories, what I heard was only a drop in the bucket!

- anyone interested in any form of law enforcement and the behind the scenes that few know about.

No matter who reads it, I think they'll come away with a lot more respect for the men and women of the California Highway Patrol.
Outstanding!!
I highly recommend it!
