Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Caper #3
The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues
Buckley and Bogey, Cat Detectives, find their next big case with the Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Agency to be their most complicated ever! It all starts when someone hides a mysterious package in their Mom's antique store - in the middle of the night! Of course, the boys find it, and put it in a nice, safe place, until they can open it . . . and, find the rightful owner. But that's when a whole bunch of suspicious people show up in St. Gertrude, and every single one of them seems to be after that package! Holy Catnip! Plus, everything happens just when a priceless, jeweled statue collection goes on display at the St. Gertrude Museum. Missing from that collection are two jewel covered cat statues that disappeared almost a hundred and fifty years ago. But soon Buckley and Bogey wonder how long those statues will stay missing. Because this is one case that really keeps them on their paws! From a trip to the Museum, and to an old church for the Blessing of the Animals; and from dinosaurs to diamonds, they end up dodging shady suspects the whole time. It sure helps to have their friends with them, especially when the bad guys make a beeline for boys. That's because it becomes very clear, very quick - the priceless cat statues aren't the only cats those crooks are after! Holy Mackerel!

Buckley and Bogey are back at work, this time solving an international jewel-heist! These books just keep getting better and more complex, and Buckley, Bogey, and their friends are growing as characters. Buckley's confidence in his ability as a detective is growing, but he is just as humble and sweet as ever. I love the interactions of this group of cat friends with each other and with their humans. I purchased the paperback of this book and plan to collect the rest of the series--both for my own enjoyment and possibly to read to cat-loving grandchildren someday.
This series of books is ideal for boys and girls--and for anyone who enjoys a talking-animal story, a fun mystery with some action, a good deal of humor, and a few life-lessons in the mix.
Highly recommended!

I love all of the Buckley and Bogey books, but this one really touched my heart. It was sweet and heartwarming, and I loved the theme of friendship and love for family and friends. Buckley and Bogey are such engaging characters, and as always, they made me laugh, and the mystery and adventure kept me engaged from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to the next installment!

From the beginning pages of this book I was hooked! After all I am a huge fan of mysteries where the main characters are cats and with The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues we get two Buckley and Bogey two felines who have a knack for solving mysteries and even have their own detective agency. Heck these two felines can even read and use the computer! I love seeing events unfold thru the cat eye view of Buckley which really makes for an interesting read! I love a well written mystery and this book provides that easily. Fast paced and easy to read the feline duo also provides more than a few laughs as they do their thing. They have plenty of habits that are so like my own cats especially the treat eating ! Along with the mystery Ms. Vincent also weaves in several valuable lessons about family, faith and loyalty that really adds another layer to the story.
This is the purrfect mystery for cat lovers and mystery fans alike. Easy to read chapter book for youngsters but I think all ages will enjoy this well written mystery. While this book is actually the third book in the series the author provided enough background information that it can easily be read as a stand alone book. That said I really want to read the first two in the series because I want more from Buckley and Bogey.

A fun filled mystery/adventure fit for all ages, especially cat lovers!
Get ready to join Buckley and Bogey, as they solve yet another mystery!
It all starts with a mysterious break in to Buckley and Bogey's mom's antique store, yet nothing is stolen. Instead a mysterious package is left, will Buckley and Bogey be able to get the package to the rightful owners before it's too late?
A humorous, fun filled adventure, from beginning to end. I loved how this was the kind of book that even if you haven't read the previous book in the series.
Bogey is a sort of classic, no nonsense detective. Buckley is more curious and instinctive. Together they make a perfect team. I loved the humor and the way that they sneak about and get their "parents" to do some interesting things...
Overall, a fun read, perfect for cat lovers of all ages!

I love my kitties. But I can also say that they do not act like little kitty detectives. What about you? Is Your Cat a Detective? Are they investigating things? Buckley and Bogey are some super cute black cats who were adopted into the same household. They have formed their own detective agency and like to help the local police solves cases. This time the case involves their mom who owns an antique store that was broken into. But nothing was stolen! In fact, the cats discover that something was actually left behind by the perpetrator. From there they start searching for the missing cat statues. They go to the museum. Some kitty friends take to climbing the dinosaur exhibits and create quite the scene while Buckley and Bogey get to go see the statues that have not gone missing as well as photos of the two missing cat statues. Will the cats find the two statues? Will they make it out alive? I do have to say that they find a false bottom in a closet, and a secret passage in an old church! Such excitement! Great read. My oldest daughter is 10 and is enjoying reading this book as well. Makes you wonder again is your cat a detective? Are you their cover?

This book was a thanksgiving present to me and one I will always treasure :)
This is my second Buckley & Bogey book and I just can't get enough of these cats!! The theme of family and friendship is very strong in this one, the criminals are quite unpredictable, and the cats stand together like never before taking huge risks to keep each other safe and resolve another case, wow :) I was also very happy to see that although Buckley easily panics with most unexpected situations, he is eager to improve his detective skills and become more courageous like his brother, Bogey. Buckley truly does find his courage in this story making it more heartfelt. Two of my favorite parts are when the boys encourage Gracie as she prepares for a piano recital and when the cats' mom has to kick a lady out of her store for threatening the cats, WHAT! NOBODY messes with these felines OR their loved ones! Also loved the ending, such a great book and truly loved the cover :) Go Buckley & Bogey (and friends)!! There's no doubt about it, these cats are my heroes :)
*will the humans finally realize that the cats are smarter than they seem in this one? how intriguing!*

Series: It is in “A Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Caper” and is considered book #3. {I have not read Book #1 or #2, but was able to follow along easily}
Spiritual Content- A mention of a “leap of faith” when having to jump; Mentions of the human family going to church; Gracie’s piano recital is at church; Three of the cats get taken to church for the Blessings of Animals (St. Francis is talked about & quoted); Mentions of Holy Water and being Blessed.
Negative Content- Minor cussing including: 49 “Holly Mackerel”s and 58 “Holy Catnip”s (including the back-cover), a ‘nit’, two ‘dumb’ and four ‘stupid’s; A couple mentions of sleeping pills; Delilah is like Cruella de Vil in the fact she talks about making different animals clothing for her to wear (which, of course, doesn’t happen).
Sexual Content- It’s hinted many times that Buckley has a crush on Princess and Bogey on Amelia…breathlessness, dizziness & stuttering happen to Buckley & Bogey when these female cats come near; Buckley & Bogey call female cats & female humans “dames”.

I wanted to read “The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues” because it’s in our target age range of BFCG. But I was hesitant because I’m not a cat lover (at. all. My daddy’s highly allergic) and I wasn’t expecting to there to be any Spiritual Content, so I was a little worried. I was pleasantly surprise that there was Spiritual Content (not as much as I would like, but still better than none). My only complaint is all the “Holy Catnips”s or “Holy Mackerel”s. Catnip and Mackerel is not holy, thankyouverymuch! This book striked me as corny at first (okay, all the way to the end) but I grew to like it better when I pictured it in my head in the style of the Aristocats movie. My favorite part was the special needs cats and them finding homes—that really made the book for me.

While The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues by Cindy Vincent is written for young readers, somewhere in the 8- to 12-year range, I enjoyed every minute spent with these delightful felines and their humans. Obviously, I'm an easy audience for this story because I'm a cat lover, but no amount of loving cats can make a bad book enjoyable. Cindy's story has so much going for it because it's very well written, funny, imaginative, and filled with important life lessons that are cleverly woven in.
Best friends and cat detectives, Bogey and Buckley, are quite a pair. Bogey, lead detective, is thin and kind of wiry, able to "run so fast that some say he can even fly." His crime-solving partner and narrator of the story, Buckley, is a two-year-old Maine Coon. Buckley and Bogey love their humans, run surveillance at night to protect them, and prove to be quite adept at solving mysteries. Other household cats and their friends populate these pages, including Princess. Lil Bits, and Miss Mokie, the "Wise One" who rules the house with an iron paw. The cats talk among themselves, even use the computer, and have distinct personalities and strengths which they use to help.
In some ways, The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues makes me think of a fable, for a fable is a tale that teaches a moral lesson, often with animals as characters - and that is exactly what Cindy's stories do. In addition to the well-plotted mystery and humor, Christian values are creatively woven throughout, in a way that offers a springboard for discussion with young ones - values like teamwork, mentoring, love of family, hard work, persistence, the wisdom that comes from a long life, learning to look past the surface, and reaching out to the handicapped.
I found several parts of this story especially touching. First, that the senior Miss Mokie was loved, respected, and sought out for both her company and the wisdom she offered. Secondly, the way other cats reached out to two special-needs cats, Annie (blind) and Henry (deaf), and worked to find them loving homes. Another part was how Buckley and Bogey interacted with 12-year-old Gracie as she struggled with her piano recital piece, something to which I can totally relate!
With the help of his brother and other loving cats, Buckley grew throughout this story and made a most important discovery . . .
"Friendship was the real treasure. . . . Without friends, we'd never really be happy."
The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues is a book that will entertain young readers, but could easily open up teaching moments if adults read it also. And in thinking back to how much I enjoyed my mom reading to me, I believe this book could work very well as a family read-aloud book. Highly recommended. 5-star rating for young readers and cat lovers everywhere.

(as reviewed by my 10-year-old daughter) I really liked everything about the book! It’s cute, it’s funny, and it’s very intriguing. Whenever I would turn the page I couldn’t wait to see what was on the next couple pages.
I really enjoyed reading this book partly because of the cute characters, Bogey and Buckley. I love how Bogey is like a mentor to Buckley in their cat detective business. I like how it spoke about family and love, and how Buckley would do anything to protect his family.
I liked the story because it took place in modern time. For me it is easier to read things that take place in modern time because it is easier to understand. I also like books that take place in small towns or little villages, like this book.
This story was so well written I could almost feel as if I was in the small town of Bogey and Buckley. It was so detailed. I could picture everything in my head: the cats, Mom, Dad and Gracie, the street where all of the stores are, the church, everything.
I really enjoyed how Cindy Vincent (the author) spoke in her book. She makes everything clear. And I also liked how it felt as if Buckley were speaking to you, like he was telling the story to you. As if you were right there.
And last I really liked how the mystery was solved in a church. I liked how the family was religious and loving. And the thought that they cracked the case in a church makes me think that God was with them when they solved the mystery. That He guided them to the answer.
Overall it was a great book!
Thanks to Litfuse Publicity and the author for providing me a free copy to review. All opinions are mine.

The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues is full of fun, as well as suspense. Cindy Vincent has a flair for humor, dialogue, twists and turns. The majority of the book is dialogue between the cats and her take on the various feline personalities is just hilarious. In this book, there is Hector "a Siamese cat who is a really big blabbermouth", who "talks" non-stop in the car (and everywhere else), which reminded me of how cats meow and "sing the song of their people" when heading to the dreaded Vet. There is a strong and heart-warming message of the importance of friendship that is the heart of this mystery. Friendship, pvercoming greed, believing in yourself and teamwork. It shows us that often we must look "deeper" into things, (even things that are outwardly full of glitter, sparkle and shine), instead of just taking them at face value.
From The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues:
"Humans especially are easily taken in by anything that shines. Gold and silver and diamonds and rubies. To name but a few. And most certainly, there is nothing wrong with owning and collecting objects of great beauty. But, when the quest for those objects makes you do terrible things, that's when you've crossed a line."
Full of Heart, High-Jinx and Hilarity, this one needs to be on your MUST READ list!

My feline-loving, mystery-loving 4th grader absolutely adored this book! Following is her review.
The title of this book is "The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues" and it's by Cindy Vincent. It's about two cats. Their names are Buckley and Bogey. And they're also cat detectives! Buckley and Bogey are the main characters. There are also other characters but you have to read the book for yourselves to find out about them!
On a foggy Sunday morning when the sky was still dark out, Buckley and Bogey's human mom's antique store got broken into. But nothing was stolen. Instead, something was added. It was a bag. But they didn't get to open it right away. They put the bag in Buckley's pet carrier and soon found two more clues. They put those clues in Bogey's pet carrier. A few days later, they finally got to open the package. Inside was a statue made by Danby Daunton and covered in gems. But I'm not gonna tell you what animal it was or what the status was called because you can read the book and find out yourselves!
And I think that this was the best book ever!
And I think that this book is good for everyone to read!

Oh my gosh what a fun book! Really, this is like Hank the Cowdog of the cat world, I just loved it! I read this book out loud to my little siblings at night and I can't tell you how many times I had caught Maggie reading it by herself! The plot was fun and adventurous all throughout the story and the characters were fabulous! The family attributes were very welcome and refreshing as well simplicity of the wording. I am very confident that young readers (8-12) would love this humorous, action-packed, mystery novel as they could read it fluently and understand it. There a few other books in the Buckley and Bogey series, but again like Hank the Cowdog, you can read them in any order and still enjoy the story. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and encourage any fans, young or old, of Hank to pick up this series! You won't regret it!

Cindy Vincent in her new book, “The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues” Book Three in the Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Caper series published by Whodunit Press gives us another adventure with Buckley and Bogey Cat Detectives.
From the Back Cover: Buckley and Bogey, Cat Detectives, find their next big case with the Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Agency to be their most complicated ever! It all starts when someone hides a mysterious package in their Mom’s antique store – in the middle of the night! Of course, the boys find it, and put it in a nice, safe place, until they can open it . . . and, find the rightful owner. But that’s when a whole bunch of suspicious people show up in St.
That’s because it becomes very clear, very quick – the priceless cat statues aren’t the only cats those crooks are after! Holy Mackerel!
I always knew that cats were intelligent I just was not aware they were this intelligent. These two cats solve mysteries and they are very good at what they do. This is the third book in the series however it is my first time reading about them so I have a bit to catch up on. The good news is that this book can be read alone and you will not miss anything. I do recommend, however, that you do as I will and go back and get the other two to catch up on. If those were as good as this one, and I highly believe that they are, then you do not want to pass on this wonderful opportunity. “The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues” is a lot of fun in that it captures your attention and keeps you flipping pages as fast as you can read them. Ms. Vincent has given us great characters in Buckley and Bogey so that we forget that they are cats and identify with them and root for them to succeed. I am so looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.

Your child will love Bogey and Buckley. They're funny, smart, and into everything. You'll love them, too - because they star in the perfect mystery books for young readers.
Bogey's character is modeled after - you guessed it! - Humphrey Bogart. He's full of cliches and style, but he's kind and a good mentor to Buckley, too. Buckley is a bit more dramatic. He's a younger cat who's still growing into his paws and is full of enthusiasm - but still gets scared in the face of danger. His timidity and newness to the world of detective work makes him the perfect character to bridge the gap between classic gumshoe slang and the abilities of young readers.
This story is marketed as being suitable for tweens, but my kids could've read it long before then - and it's certainly clean and wholesome enough for any reader. Buckley even learns several life lessons throughout the story, which is one of the reasons I enjoyed it. If my kids are going to read about crime and drama, I want the characters to learn from their mistakes. In this case, it wasn't that Buckley or Bogart caused the problems, but the dangerous scenarios were serious. They were caused by people with major criminal intent, and having Buckley learn from their mistakes is the perfect way to balance this suspenseful plot with the spiritual needs of a young child.
The crime drama was not the least bit scary, though. Even though Buckley trembles and needs the reassurance of frequent cat treats, his tendency to yell, "Holy catnip!" and frequent saluting mishaps made the whole story funny.
I must admit that in the beginning Buckley's never-ending dialogue made it difficult for me to adapt to the flow of the story, but My Big Helper had no such problem. She dove right in and loved it from the first page - and after finding my literary balance, I enjoyed it, too.
The Case of the Jeweled Cat Statues would make a great family read-aloud or fun story for beginning readers through tweens. It's clean, wholesome, and fun all the way through. We can't wait to check out more books by Cindy Vincent. Don't take my word for it, though - read on to find out what My Big Helper thought:
I like The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues because of the adventure, mystery, lesson, and the perspective. In the suspenseful parts, I felt just like Buckley the cat. I laughed every time Buckley messed up at saluting Bogey and my heart stopped in exciting parts. I love how the author combined a mystery and a lesson in friendship together. This book is cat-astic and once you read it, you'll want to get your paws on another one!

My Review:
Buckley and his brother Bogey are amazing cat detectives. They can solve any mystery thrown their way, but this one may be the hardest by far. Late one foggy night, the alarm at their mothers antique store sounded. Upon their arrival at the store Buckley and Bogey discover that nothing was stolen. But the culprit left something there---a mystery package.
Buckley and Bogey end up at the Gertrude Museum, where they discover a collection of diamond encrusted statues have gone missing. The boy detectives are fresh on the trail of the thieves. They are so busy focused on this mystery and trying to keep their family safe that they fail to recognize that they are being pursued by the thieves. With these two guys on the case, surely they will apprehend the suspects in no time.
The author is a really good mystery writer. I think this book is meant for children but all ages could sit down and read it. It was that interesting!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Litfuse Publicity.

Title: THE CASE OF THE JEWEL COVERED CAT STATUES
Author: Cindy Vincent
Publisher: Whodunit Press
September 2014
ISBN: 978-1932169287
Genre: Young adult/cozy mystery
Buckley and Bogey, Cat Detectives, find their next big case with the Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Agency to be their most complicated ever! It all starts when someone hides a mysterious package in their Mom's antique store --- in the middle of the night! Of course, the boys find it, and put it in a nice, safe place, until they can open it . . . and, find the rightful owner. But that's when a whole bunch of suspicious people show up in St. Gertrude, and every single one of them seems to be after that package! Holy Catnip! Thoughts by Jenna: This is a very good book. It is a great suspense. I didn't figure out who did it until about the middle of the book and usually with kid-suspense I figure it out at the very beginning. The repeat of Holy Mackerel and Holy Catnip at the beginning and end of every chapter were kind of weird. Kind of like cat swear words. The action was intense. I really liked it. 5 stars.
Available in print and ebook. 250 pages.

Cats and mysteries just seem to go together. There are lots of adult mystery series featuring amateur detectives and their faithful feline sidekicks. And for the younger set, Cindy Vincent has created a series in which the cats are the sleuths. The Case of The Jewel Covered Cat Statues is the third installment of the Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Caper series. In this standalone novel, Buckley and Bogey are on the trail of missing statues. Along the way the cats enlist the help of other furry friends in their quest to solve the case and protect their family.
Cat loving children will get a kick out of this story narrated by young Buckley. A rookie at detecting, Buckley and the older and wiser Bogey use team work and modern technology to direct events. The humans suspect something is going on with these cats, but who really believes that cats can use a computer, let alone investigate mysterious goings on.
I liked the emphasis on friendship and family in Vincent’s novel. The cats are all shelter animals that have found loving forever families. And they are grateful and willing to watch over their humans. A light and warm-hearted read, pick this one up for the child in your life who loves books and cats. He or she will be delighted by Buckley and Bogey.
Audience: children ages 8-12.

This is the third book in the "Buckley and Bogey Cat Detective Caper" series by Ms. Vincent. This case involves a mysterious box and finding the owner. Why are so many people looking for it?
Buckley and Bogey believe that their home (and family) is their territory to protect. Each night they patrol the house, looking and listening for suspicious activity. When a package is left at their mom's antique store AFTER a break-in, the two work to keep the package hidden until they can determine its owner. At the same time, a beautiful exhibit of cat statues goes on display with two missing! Where are they? Who are all the people coming into town now trying to get the package? Can Buckley and Bogey figure it out in time? Mystery solvers aged 8 -12 will enjoy solving this case!
This is a fun mystery written for children in the 8 - 12 year old age range. It is my first in the series, but won't be my last. It has themes of teamwork and friendship, and works on recognizing the strengths of each member of a team (Bogey likes to follow clues and work like a detective and Buckley goes more on his instincts.) I think this would make a fun family read as well as an individual one. I received my review copy from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Have just finished reading this delightful feline story. Yes we have some super cat detectives, and love how they manipulated their humans. Pretty smart fellows, and very quick on their feet. You will be surprised at how intelligent these detective cats are.
The story revolves around a sweet human family, a mother, father and little girl. Now these cats have their family wrapped around their paws, and the cats feel the same about them. They will go to any length to help their own.
I have passed this quick read off to my nine year old that has just started reading chapter books, and he can’t wait to get started. He is going to love reading about Buckley and Bogey, and their other cat friends. I expect him to be sharing this story with me, and I’ll be chuckling along with him at the antics of these cats. We will soon be saying “Holy Catnip” and “Holy Mackerel” to one another.
If you want a sweet, clean and humorous story for your tween, this is the mystery for you to share with them!

While this book is geared more towards the early middle school years, it's one that I very much enjoyed reading. I appreciated how each of the cats had their own personality and yet worked together to solve crimes and to take care of their families. This is one mystery that had me reading right up until the last page because the criminals were unpredictable and the sleuths weren't giving up until the mystery was solved. The storyline flowed smoothly and as I said, each character had their own personality and it was well defined. If I had one complaint, it would be that our narrator needs to mix up his catchphrases a bit. He has a tendency to repeat the same one an awful lot. But, he's a growing boy and perhaps as he gets older, his vocabulary will expand. I'm not going out on a limb to say this is a super cute, fun book that will delight readers and cat lovers alike.

So cute
A cute cozy presented through the voice of Buckley a black Maine Coon cat. He and his older brother Bogey are Cat Detectives. Bogey has adopted the persona of our dear Humphrey Bogart.
There has been a break in at the Antique shop of Buckley and Bogey's mom and another shop but nothing has been stolen. The boys and their car community decide to investigate once they feel their families and friends are in danger.
They discover a connection to a theft from the past that relates to a current Museum display.
This book was fun and exciting. There are several delightful feline characters and words of kitty wisdom. The book is one that can be enjoyed by all ages. It is well written and flows easily for the reader. I think this must be a fun series to any feline lover.

This is the first book in this series I have read but I was able to read it as a stand alone story. I don't read a lot of books for young kids anymore as mine are now older but this book was too cute to pass up. I love mysteries and this story had plenty of that for me. One of the tings that I really liked about this book is that it is told from Buckley the cat's point of view. These two cats are determined to solve the mystery of the hidden package, you will have to read the book to see what happens. I told my 9 year old niece about this book and she can't wait to read it as well. I recommend this book for all youngsters who are looking for a good mystery.

Holy Catnip! this was a very entertaining book. Maybe this is what my cats do at night when they don't sleep, solve crimes of missing statues. This was a very cute book that any cat lover will enjoy. Buckley and Bogey are two very shrewd cats. I love how they solved this crime. Holy Mackerel, snatch this book up, it is free on Amazon!

I do enjoy a great cat caper. This is a great story that is super easy to get through. I was able to read it in one sitting. The author made the characters really have a bright and great attitude and I think that really holds the story together. I would really enjoy reading more from this author!

Cute cat caper! Enjoyed it!
First time I read a cat , detective book. I thought it was well written very entertaining. The adventure that Bogey & Buckley went on to solve the mystery of the missing cat statues. How they snuck around where they weren't supposed to be, smuggled a statute in to the house & hid it. Quite entertaining.

This is a fun fictional tale for young readers from author Cindy Vincent! It is the third in her Buckley and Bogley Cat Detective Capers series, which is a series of mystery novels for kids and cat lovers everywhere!
Written by a Christian, these books are appropriate for your children to read! Of course since the heroes of the tales are cats, there aren't any Christian lessons implemented. However, you as the parent can rest assured that your young readers won't gain any wrong ideas from reading these books. The cat does seem fond of the expression ''holy mackerel'' and ''holy catnip''- you may decide upon your own discretion if you want to risk your child adding those words to their vocabulary.
The storyline of The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues is interesting; it will captivate the very young reader and continue to interest older readers (9-12). If reading aloud, I don't believe the parent or older sibling reading the book to a child will be bored either. The setting and characters are extremely easy to comprehend from the very first chapter. Likewise, the active story line begins immediately- something which will please young readers, especially boys.
Children will be delighted when they see that Buckley and Bogey are real live cats!
This fictional book is a good way to keep children interested in a chapter book without resorting to complete fantasy!
As for the tale in this book, it involves Buckley and Bogey secretly helping their humans to reveal the truth behind recent mysterious antique-shop break-ins and leads them on an adventure involving the Museum and its special exhibit. Will the talented cat detectives be able to help the humans solve this puzzle before the villains succeed in their crafty plot? Read the book to find out!
From the website:
The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues is sort of a take on the Maltese Falcon, done Buckley and Bogey style. Complete with a mysterious package left in their Mom's antique store, as well as jeweled statues and lots of shady characters, this is the boys most complicated case EVER. Whew . . . it certainly keeps Buckley and Bogey on their paws! Especially when the whole thing turns into a treasure hunt that teaches them a lot about the history of their town, St. Gertrude. But one thing's for sure, as complicated as this case is, it sure pays to have friends who can help out. Holy Catnip!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. Thanks!

Thanks!

Buckley and Bogey are two cats, Bogey is all black and Buckley is a Maine Coon. They live with their human “family” and two other cats. They are also cat detectives.
Danby Daunton designed jewel covered statues, his crowning work was two cat statues, Tobias and Tessa. When Tobias is stolen and Tessa disappears, Daunton sells the others. His great-great-great-granddaughter slowly acquires them and agrees to put them on display in the museum.
The cats are on the case to find the stolen statue. Can they find it? Can they find both statues? Both missing for 150 years.
The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues by Cindy Vincent is written for the 8-12-year-old set, leaning heavily on the 8-year old side. However, the book might be a little long for an 8-year-old’s attention span. Twenty-six chapters and over 240 pages, it’s not a small book.
This would be a good book to read as a read-aloud with your children.
But to be perfectly honest, I am not a fan of this book. I love children’s books. I still have several I read as a child, books that increased my attention span, and if they didn’t increase my intelligence they didn’t insult it. This book is not in any way believable.
Every chapter of this book opens with the same two words, “Holy mackerel!” and ends with the same two words, “Holy catnip!” Those two two-word phrases are also sprinkled throughout the chapter.
The book is written as if the reader is on a constant high, adrenaline rush. There is no downtime, the book is fast-paced.
I received a free copy of this book from Litfuse for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

This is a book I had fun reading through. It is for younger ages, my 14 year old sister read it and loved it, but even at my age I thought is was a cute read. I have never read a book before where the animals are the detectives and solve cases faster than the humans:)
This is not the first book in a series so if you haven't read the others, like me, you might be a little bit lost at the beginning. But I quickly got up to speed on who the characters were and what was going on. And yes, the main characters are kitties. Smart as a whip, able to use computers and patrol like nobodies business, house cats. They are hilariously funny and I found myself laughing out loud at their antics because I can see my own kitty acting in the same manner. There were two things I didn't care for. They are totally personal but at one point I almost put the book down because I got frustrated. The older and wiser cat is forever calling the younger one kid. And I understand why, but 6 times on one page was a bit much. The other thing was the "holy" exclamations. Almost every chapter ends with it and almost every chapter begins with it. I am cautious with that word anyways but the author seemed to overuse it at times. Again, nothing major, but these things did get annoying.
Overall a fun book that I think the younger generation will love. Also makes me more suspicious of my kitten and what she is actually doing at times:) Entertaining and cute!
I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. All thoughts are 100% mine.

Honestly, The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues by Cindy Vincent was not a good book for me. I tried really hard to enjoy it, since overall, Vincent’s premise seemed promising with a fun and unique mystery and at times, the mystery did entertain and intrigue me. However, I never felt truly engaged with the story - and I think my problem mostly stemmed from two aspects of the book:
1. I am not a lover of cats, so the narration from the perspective of a cat quickly became too much for me and I lost some interest (especially with the repetitive uses of “Holy mackerel!” and “Holy catnip!”).
2. I felt several instances in the book talked down to me as the reader - and even seemed unnecessarily explanatory for the targeted middle-grade audience.
Yet, I will say that although I personally did not particularly enjoy The Case of the Jewel Covered Cat Statues, plenty of readers have. If you are a cat lover, this may be a perfectly enjoyable book.
