it's an okay edition. there are errors in here though, lots of them. evolutions of pokemon that have repeated moves of the previous form get repeated in the attack list. example: level - basic: water gun level- 4 : water gun
it's utterly redundant to have it twice. if it's a basic move, it means it doesn't have a level to learn it at.
on the whole moves and level, the moves my pokemon learned are out of order when refereing to this book. it might have something to do with personalities, but i have no clue. and if that's the case, what personality did they base this list off of? the happy-pappy pokemon? well, my gloom and doom pokemon is not amused.
there is also no explanation of how pokemon's personalities affect their learning. i went from a gameboy color version to pokemon diamond, and was utterly lost with all of the changes. that being one of them. the only thing that i know about personalities is that it affects compatibility in regards to eggs, and it can affect what moves the pokemon will know. but can i navigate past that knowledge and have a use for it? nope. i get the sheer frustration of knowing that it does affect things, but have no idea what it means when my pokemon is "mischievous."
there's also nothing in here about the pokevirus, how long it lasts, what it does, how to spread it, and if a pokemon can get it again. oh, by the way, it's only explained once in the pokecenter the first time. there are no repeat explanations. also, they only tell you your pokemon has it, and that it's a good thing. thanks nurse joy.
my first pokemon guide had stories about general knowledge about the pokemon. this does not. while it is helpful to the different definitions of the pokemon between versions, as well as what moves it can learn. i still don't know much about it. that one line that said that girls think that pitbull dog thing is cute doesn't help me in understanding how to take full advantage of it in the game.
the duel element types are also not explained well. what is the difference between a water one type, and a water two type? if a pokemon has both, is that the same as a pokemon with just one element?
egg groups. i understand that you can breed pokemon within the same egg group, but is there more to it? is one more difficult than the other to breed? if you breed two different pokemon within the same field, how do you know which pokemon will pop out of the egg? why isn't the friendship level mentioned in here? your friendship with the pokemon affects how fast the egg hatches. but as to how much, no idea.
the table of contents sucks at the beginning. they group them like u-z, and don't bold letter changes. it could be like the first pokemon of a different letter, and looking up the pokemon would be so much better. but no, you will skip by gyarados like 4 times in it's section before you realise that you skipped over it once.
i understand that i picked up the pocket edition, so it will be less than the full sized edition. but i didn't want a walk through of pokemon, and that's what that was. plus, it was textbook size! i can't carry that around! it's practically a pokemon tome! i just wanted a guide that did more than just tell me battle moves, and what the battle moves are, that's all. this book does cover beyond that, but it's like swimming in the kiddie pool when you're 12.
