Men ruin women.

Especially men like Chase Davis. Good looking, intelligent, rich and powerful. I never stood a chance.

I didn’t want to want him.

I didn’t want to need him.

I didn’t want to fall for him.

He wouldn’t take no for an answer, and I let him consume me. Arrogant, confident, controlling, demanding… intense.
When he entered my life, I was finally healing after having barely survived the men of my past. My soul sisters told me to take a chance. To let someone in. I let him in, and he surrounded me with a light so bright I was blinded by the truth...

Men don’t ruin women. They devour them in every way that counts.

Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language, graphic sexual content, and themes that some may find disturbing. BODY is book 1 of a three-part trilogy. Book 1 has a “Happy for Now” type ending.

Sie: "Okay, was immer du sagst."

***I received a free copy of this book through Netgalley.com in exchange for honest feedback.***

This book tells the story of Gillian and Chase, an unlikely pair that have incredible chemistry. Having survived an abusive relationship and gone on to build a career in a field that was meaningful and allowed her to help other victims of abuse, Gillian is hesitant to give up any control. Chase, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to explore his attraction to the beautiful redhead. He's willing to go all out to show her how good they are together.

Chase is a charming billionaire. Gillian is a sweet, beautiful, working girl. In many ways, this book was much like many of the other books that followed 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. At times, I felt irritated with Gillian and her "soul sisters". Similarly, chase's control issues were over the top.

All in all, this story was somewhere in the middle of the road. I've read better and I've read far worse.

This book was HORRIBLE. I think the author took every plot point from other successful romance books with an alpha male: heroine is damaged- check, hero is rich and alpha- check, he instantly takes control of her life (including her job since he conveniently owns her company)- check, heroine is stalked by an ex- check, ex-girlfriend of hero looks just like heroine but cheated on him- check. Not only was it horribly written but the story was simplistic and worst of all it was BORING. I even skimmed most of the sex scenes because good god every action the characters took had to end in sex. And at one point the hero "twitches enticingly inside my womb." That's not even possible! Thank god didn't pay for this book. Run away, run away fast from this utter garbage.

This book is unlike anything I've ever written. It was a year in the making and includes more blood, sweat, tears, heartache, and fears than any of my previous works. This novel includes subject matter that some may find objectionable as it deals with some tragic information from our heroine's past which ends up mirroring quite closely with what our hero experienced in his own past but on a different plain.

There are some very bright lights in this novel, mostly found in Gillian's aka Gigi's soul sisters. Her three best friends are wildly entertaining and often try to steal the show. They'll get their story one day.

I hope you find something in this novel that you've never read before and I hope it speaks to you.

Thank you for giving it a chance.

Namaste,

Audrey

Before anything else, I WANT BOOK 2 NOW, PLEASE!!!!

Now that’s out of the way…

I just want to say what I've come to realize as I was reading this. Sylvia Day’s Gideon has New York, CD Reiss’ Jonathan has Southern CA, EL James’ Christian has Pacific Northwest, CC Gibbs’ Dominic has Europe, Jodi Ellen Malpas’ Jesse has England, but now we also have Audrey Carlan’s Chase who has Northern CA. Just saying… These bajillionaires, I tell ya…

This book, in some ways, reminds me of FSoG. Some people may see that as good and some may not. Regardless, I say pls read it. Because if you like FSoG, I think you’ll like this just as much. And if you didn’t like FSoG, I think you’ll like this at least. For me, it’s like FSoG without the BDSM-lite but with more depth and substance, writing- and story-wise.

We have Gillian recovering from an ugly past and Chase with just as ugly a past. They meet, have this fiery attraction, and you see this play of control between the 2 with each of them motivated by opposing factors.

I thought Ms. Carlan did a good job portraying the mind of someone with Gillian’s past. For all of Gillian’s actions that typically would make her sound TSTL, whether I agree or not, I understood, at least, or saw where she’s coming from, and as frustrated it made me, I couldn’t really blame her for acting or feeling a certain way. Whether we acknowledge it or not, that can be the mind of such person, sadly. As the saying goes, walk a mile…

And Chase… Chase deserves the hero role, every bit of him... *sigh*… Thanks to Ms. Carlan, I got Chase who's imperfectly perfect. In Ms. Carlan's words, Gillian's own "Superman" and "Knight in Shining Armani". Need I say more?

I have to add as well that the friends' angle was a nice touch. Their dynamics highlight what it truly means when one is fortunate enough to be surrounded by real friends, which I hope all women are.

Towards the end, an ugly thing/person started rearing in from Gillian’s past and that’s where we’re left at the end of this book. I think I’m meant to think of this one antagonist as the most logical choice but I’m hoping to be surprised still.

I say this was more than an enjoyable read. Some parts were way too sugary for me but that’s a personal taste.

Like I said, I WANT BOOK 2 NOW, PLEASE!!!!!

Darum geht’s:

5+++ #Superman Stars ~ I HIGHLY recommend BODY and Audrey’s “Falling” series.

This is one of those stories where as a reviewer, I have spent a fair amount of time contemplating exactly why this is a 5++ star read. Sometimes I think too much. It comes down to this. This is one of those reads where you feel everything and you know as your hitting the words “The End” that you’ll be reading it again and that alone makes it a 5++ star read.

BODY (Trinity Trilogy - Book 1) is the first book in a new series by Audrey Carlan and although I think it lands squarely in the erotic romance genre, I feel like I’m short changing it. Yes it is erotic and romantic, but Body is also a mystery and it tackles far more complex and sensitive subjects than the typical angsty romance.

When the story opens, we are immediately transported to a hotel bar in Chicago. My first impressions were so easy to get as Audrey’s writing is very descriptive, a true show not tell style. Which makes this a read that I call easy - you simply become a voyeur. So, there we are in Chicago, with one Gillian Callahan as she is trying to enjoy a simple glass of wine and unwind from her travels from San Francisco. Gillians inner dialogue gives us a great amount of information on her life, we learn that she works as a Fundraising manager for a non-profit organization and that she is currently single. But there's so much more to Gillian, and we spend the rest of the book getting to know her and how she feels - I felt that she’s a very transparent character and one that is easy to want to know.

We are also immediately introduced to one Chase Davis. Again with Gillians appraisal, we get a clear physical picture of Chase (YUM), but Gillian also picks up on something that is simply Chase Davis’s “superman” pheromones. Chase is all Alpha male and Gillian has caught his eye. Immediately it feels as if these two are pre-destined. So the story goes on where we watch their present and pasts entangle as they are set off on a path that unites them. Their story is definitely fun to watch, but it's countered with moments of pure heartbreak and a central theme that is not always easy to digest, that of the effects of domestic violence.

Audreys depiction of domestic abuse and the effects are handled by her with great sensitivity. Gillians non profit work is for a program supporting victims of domestic violence. The main reason she works for this organization, that she wanted to work for this organization, Safe Haven, is that she herself is a survivor and Safe Haven is the reason. Throughout the story, Gillian experiences flashbacks that are simply heart wrenching. Again, Audrey handles this with an amazing amount of grace and I don’t think this is an easy thing to do. It’s not glossed over and it’s not melodramatic. It feels like a very true picture of what one woman experiences at the hands of a monster. With Gillian’s character, Audrey touches on multiple aspects that the survivor of domestic abuse feels; guilt, shame, and self-doubt. But Audrey gives us a Gillian that has fought her way back to normalcy & stability and is giving back and finding her own peace.

With Chase now embroiled in Gillian's life, she goes from a now relatively drama free existence to a life filled with escapades that only a bazillionaire boyfriend can offer. But Chase also brings a new element of danger. His pure Alphaman-ness challenges Gillian. She has to fight for control of her life and Chase is not one to easily back down - he “owns” her safety. At times he’s smothering, but also very, very sweet. I adore some of Chase’s habits (cookies for breakfast), but he also has a bad habit if sending sending mixed signals. He does one thing and says another and these moments made me particularly anxious and quite frankly I was wholly annoyed and angry with him at times. But he does have charm and a way to make all the heartache go away *wink wink*. Gillian matures a lot throughout the story’s timeline and she valiantly tries to push back on Chase’s need to control everything. She succeeds a few times we made me immensely happy.

I have no doubt their road toward together is going to have more rocky moments than not. As a couple they are constantly challenged by his family, their work connection and a nearly matching pair of psychotic "his and her" ex’s. There is also a mystery element in the story-line when Gillian is threatened. This causes a chain reaction that is not uncommon with anyone who has been victimized, the need to lock-down and live in fear. Chase’s task of keeping her safe is now much bigger.

Finally, this story is nothing without Gillian's wonderful group of “BESOS” ( see the books special acknowledgements for full description) that keep their “Gigi” balanced. There is a lot of camaraderie and as we get to know her friends its very apparent they have developed a small family with each other and that these girls and “guy” have each others back.. Because of this, Gillian doesn't necessarily need a superman to protect her from the monsters in this world, but he’s a lot of fun to have around.

The story does end on a cliffhanger but book 2 ,which is called “Mind”, is expected to release in December.

This is another one where the synopsis sounds good but the story and the summary does not match.

The relationship between the FC and the MC moved too fast and within the first 24 hours of meeting he was in control of her life.

I felt that there was too much too quickly so I will leave the rest of the trilogy for the time being. I might pick it up at a later date.

This book is the first in the series and will suck you right in.
Gillian is a woman with a past. Chase is a billionaire. Put these two together and you get hot, sexy, and explosive encounters that will melt the panties right off you.

Body does have some topics that may be disturbing to some people. There is domestic violence in both Gillian and Chase’s past, and it shapes them into the people they are in this story. They have both worked hard to overcome the past, but will their pasts ultimately pull them apart?

These characters are real. They make real mistakes, and love fiercely. There are so many emotions in this book; it made it hard to put down. I laughed, I cried, and I took cold showers.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, fierce love story. It takes a lot to write an original story that takes twists and turns you won’t see coming. ~ Devlynn, 4.5 stars

~~~
I am a major fan of Audrey Carlan’s Falling series, and I was both excited and intrigued when I learned of her new series. I leapt into the book without really reading the blurb – and knowing it was beginning of a trilogy. That’s how keen I was to read more of Ms. Carlan’s words.
Gillian has had a lot to overcome in her life, and now her life is finally back on track. In a job she loves, with her wonderful soul sisters surrounding her, Gigi is happy – or at least well on her way there. When she meets billionaire Chase Davis, she is compelled and repelled by his forceful, don’t-take-no-for-an-answer attitude. Men like Chase throw away women like Gigi…or so she thinks.
I’m still not 100% sure what I expected from this book, but I am sure it wasn’t what I got. And that’s a good thing.
I really enjoyed Gigi; in particular, I loved Gigi’s strong, realistic relationship with her “soul sisters”. It was an unexpected treat to see four wonderful female characters come together and share an unbreakable bond. I loved that their relationship was founded in the days after Gigi walked away from her heartbreaking past and that these women kept each other grounded. I am keen to see more from all of them.
What I didn’t love, sadly, was Chase. At least, not at first. Don’t get me wrong, I liked him, and I certainly could see the desire and connection between him and Gigi, but it never really rang completely true. I found his overbearing, demanding and possessive ways off-putting at times, especially given the speed at which their relationship took off, and I felt Gigi lost something of herself with him.
Having said that, I did find myself deeply invested in their story; I wanted to know where it was going, what their secrets were, whether they would be together and be happy, or if something – or someone – would come between them. And as the story progressed, my misgivings about Mr. Davis lessened significantly.
I liked the HEA for now aspect of the ending. It sets up book two nicely, and gave me enough to feel rewarded for finishing and desirous of the next stage of Gigi and Chase’s relationship. Thankfully, the wait it not too long!
Body is the first book in the Trinity Trilogy series. There is a minor cliffhanger. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This is an enjoyable read, which gets better as it goes along. However, I do think it is too long, and there are many elements which are very familiar, due to its genre. That after 400 pages I was left pretty much on a cliffhanger ... wow that was frustrating! I will be reading book two, because I do want to know what happens next.
It cannot be denied that Chase sounds absolutely yummy, and behaves in a more admirable way than many of his billionaire businessman forerunners. His bodyguard is hot, and his cousins are a mixture of cool and not so cool. Gillian's past has made her very cautious, although she has a strong band of friends - which we get to meet and know better. Between Chase and Gillian's pasts and their different social status the opportunity for disasters seems to be amplified.
Ich danke NetGalley und dem Ullstein Verlag für das digitale Rezensionsexemplar.
Kurzbeschreibung des Buches:
Ein neues Leben. Eine große Liebe. Eine tödliche Gefahr. Der erste Band der Trinity-Serie
Ich liebe dich. Ich will dich. Ich werde dich nie verlassen. Beim Gedanken an diese Worte bekommt Gillian Callahan Panik. Jahrelang wurde sie von ihrem gewalttätigen Ex-Freund misshandelt. Jetzt ist sie frei und arbeitet für Safe Haven, die Hilfsorganisation, der sie ihre Rettung verdankt. Das Thema Männer hat sie abgehakt. Bis sie bei einer Konferenz den Vorsitzenden von Safe Haven, Chase Davis, kennenlernt. Der attraktive Milliardär ist so sexy, dass Gillian schwindelig wird. Außerdem bekommt er immer, was er will – und er will Gillian. In ihr kämpfen Lust und Angst gegeneinander. Wird sie Chase vertrauen können? Ist sie bei ihm wirklich sicher? Und wie gefährlich ist ihre dunkle Vergangenheit?
Meine Meinung:
Nachdem ich der erste Band der "Calendar Girl" Reihe nicht so sehr von sich überzeugen konnte, habe ich mich sehr gefreut, dass ich einer anderen Reihe von Audrey Carlan die Chance geben kann, mich zu begeistern.
Es fiel mir schwer dieses Buch zu bewerten, weil ich schon sehr viel in diesem Genre gelesen habe und dadurch eine gewisse Erwartung an das Buch hatte.
Man wird sofort in die Geschichte hineingeworfen und wird am Anfang mit dem Charakter von Gillian bekannt gemacht. Ich mochte ihren Charakter sehr gerne. Sie war mir direkt sympathisch und es hat mich begeistert, wie stark sie mit ihrer Vergangenheit umgeht.
Gillian lernt relativ am Anfang Chase kennen, mit dem ich ab und zu meine Probleme hatte. Wenn er fürsorglich, charmant und liebevoll zu Gillian war, dann hätte ich mich selbst in ihn verlieben können. Aber manchmal hat er seinen Kontrollzwang zu sehr ausgelebt und damit kam ich nicht zurecht. Trotzdem kann ich es verstehen, dass Gillian sich von ihm angezogen gefühlt hat.
Die Liebesbeziehung der Beiden ist sehr intensiv. Man spürt als Leser sehr das Knistern zwischen den Beiden und auch die erotischen Szenen waren sehr gut von der Autorin beschrieben.
Man wurde nur so von der Geschichte mitgerissen, obwohl die zwei Protagonisten einem manchmal auf die Nerven gegangen sind.
Es fiel mir wirklich schwer das Buch aus der Hand zu legen.
Mich konnte das Buch sehr mitreißen und ich spüre jetzt schon, dass mich die Reihe süchtig machen wird und ich kann es kaum erwarten, dass der zweite Band erscheint!
Für alle, die dieses Genre gerne lesen und gerne sehr intensive Gefühle in Büchern spüren wollen, ist dieses Buch definitiv das Richtige. Sollte euch Calendar Girl nicht gefallen haben, schreckt nicht davor zurück der Autorin mit diesem Buch noch eine Chance zu geben. Es lohnt sich wirklich.
Dieses Buch bekommt von mir 4 von 5 Sternen.
I was super lucky to get an ARC of this book (Audrey, you popped my ARC cherry)
CHASE!! Good lord that man. He's the dominant male we have all grown to love but there is something different about Superman. He's not as closed off as some dominant men I have read and that made me love him more. He is very upfront about what he wants and what he will do to keep it and although he has some serious shit in his past he doesn't close it off from Gillian. He will make you swoon. Over and over and over again.
And I adore Gillian or Gigi as her friends like to call her. This hot, fiery red head is someone you want as her best friend. She has a very rocky, dark past and my stomach was in knots every time it came up. Her will to survive and make things better for others is more than respectable. You want to find a way to help her.
Then there are the soul sisters! Who doesn't want friends like them? I'm lucky enough to have some exactly like this. I cannot wait to hear more of their stories even if they are the side stories. They add so much to the story.
By the end of the book I am happy and scared all at the same time. I have a small idea of who this crazy character is but I GUESS I will wait until the next book to find out. ;)
What an absolutely great book! This is my first outing with Audrey Carlan and isn’t going to be my last. I have my eye on another set she’s written already. Yes she is that good!
Gillian is such a strong woman, strong because she is a survivor. She had a terrible relationship in the past which has obviously scarred her mentally and physically, but she has come through the other side. She has managed to open her heart to another man. I could see where her insecurities came from and totally understand them. I liked that she wasn’t a doormat and questioned things that Chase did.
Chase…Lol he was your typical alpha man. Me Tarzan, you Jane to the max in this book. It was good to see that the relationship they had was intense but had a purity to it. He’s been burned romantically in the past but again, he’s moved on and found another he could love.
These two characters just connected. I could feel their intensity. I could feel the heat coming off their loins. I could smell her arousal and feel the lust in their bodies.
What stands out for me in this book is the camaraderie of the friendship group. Each friend played a part in each of their lives and I couldn’t help but hope for HEA’s for them too.
The writing is top notch. I didn’t find it over-wordy or flowery. The story ran smoothly along, taking me on their journey. I loved the oooh moments, the aww moments, the phoarrr moments and the OMFG moments!
I can’t wait for book 2, December can’t come soon enough!!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book from the author.
Great read from start to finish!!!!
I love the story between Chase and Gillian (Gigi), I love how it started and I love how it ended up. I love Gigi's job and how she strives to help others. Ms. Carlan touches on a very real subject in this book.
Chase is a dominant business man, used to getting what he wants in life...and he wants Gigi, he won't be dissuaded by her "ignore it if you will" attitude.
Gillian is a woman who has finally turned her life around and has it heading in a direction she is happy with. Chase wasn't supposed to be part of that plan...but, his determination, charisma, and compelling personality have Gigi turned upside down and always wanting more.
Each have secrets and past issues that they try hard to hide from one another...will that be the rut in their relationship, the wedge that drives them apart?
Chase has work and his family to keep his mind busy, Gilian has her "soul sisters" and best friend to keep her grounded. Take the journey with Chase and Gillian, see how trust comes to pass. And see that this is only the beginning of the story.
Lots of twists and turns as more of each of both their stories are revealed. Read it to find out what happens. You'll love it!
This review may contain SPOILERS!
I was absolutely not a big fan of this story! I try not to be mean about this book, but there was just so much that made me dislike it. Firstly, the main person named Gillian, or Gigi, was a self-centered, conflicting (example: when she was concerned about being in a relationship with a dominant person again, but she thought the way they "made love" was absolutely amazing and that was why they should be together nonetheless) and superficial person with no personality whatsoever. The whole book was based on sex, looks and money. The only thing they were doing was having sex, and while doing this she literally mentioned how gorgeous he was at least a thousand times, like ... we get it honey. The only thing that made it a teeny, tiny bit interesting was the whole "stalker-thing", which was introduced in the last 50 pages of a 420-pages-novel. I am most definitely not going to continue this series and personally I wouldn't recommend it either, but if you are into the things I mentioned above, this might be a book for you.
This story made me experience a slew of emotions that I hadn't anticipated. Audrey Carlan is a fantastic writer, and the way she explains things makes you feel like you're right there with them. It's amazing how her writing talents can make you feel so strongly emotionally and mentally.
Gillian and Chase are the two main characters, and they take you on a rollercoaster of events, emotions, and so much more. Chase can be a possessive, overprotective, and quickly jealous type of person, yet you can't help but love and despise him. Gillian has been through a lot in her life and is attempting to open up to this man her shattered heart, which is difficult for her, but she does it because this is a romance novel. She is self-sufficient, but with Chase, she must learn to let him provide a little more, and he must learn to be less possessive and arrogant. Through their ups and downs, they learn and work together, but can they still work together as a pair when both of their pasts come back to haunt them?
* ARC Provided for Honest Review *
I have read so many books this year that at some point I am going to start ranking them. If I was to do that, BODY (Trinity Trilogy, Book 1) by Audrey Carlan would be in the Favorites of 2014 List!
BODY is the story of Gillian "Gigi" Callahan and Chase Davis. Gigi is the kind of heroine that I love to read about! She is strong, with style, yet flawed. She has a past. She is learning to deal with her future. I think she might be me :) Then she meets Chase. Chase is stunningly gorgeous. He decides Gigi is who he wants. He is her Superman.
I could not put this book down!! BODY is amazing, fast paced and full of white-hot sex! The wonderful writing by Audrey brings the reader into the story, like no other!
White Hot Reads gives BODY (Trinity Trilogy, Book 1) by Audrey Carlan a 5 on the HOT scale! BODY is WHITE HOT!
I too was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of Body. I was unable to set it down.
The book flies out of the gate and runs hard to the end. The main characters, Gigi and Chase are electric from the start.
Both characters have issues and barriers to get around but the chemistry between them is magnetic.
Audrey Carlan has out done herself. This book is worth the read.
Ich weiß gar nicht recht wo ich beginnen soll... Alles in allem hat mir dieses Buch überhaupt nicht gefallen. Ehrlich gesagt glaube ich auch nicht, dass ich es nicht mochte, weil ich normalerweise andere Genres lese.
Die Charaktere sind unsicher und schlecht ausgearbeitet. Es gab keine Authentizität. Mit Protagonistin Gillian bin ich leider nicht klargekommen. Sie ändert gefühlt im Sekundentakt ihre Meinung. Chase hingegen war mir viel zu besitzergreifend. Ich konnte ihn zu keinem Zeitpunkt ausstehen. Generell reagiere ich auf Charaktere bzw. Menschen allergisch, die andere so krass negativ und psychisch beeinflussen. Gillian und Chase führen eine toxische Beziehung in vollen Zügen.
Das Cover gefällt mir sehr gut. Es ist hübsch und ansprechend. Es passt gut zur Stimmung des Buches und zu den weiteren Teilen der Reihe, die ich alle echt schön finde. Der Titel ist interessant und seine Bedeutung klärt sich im Verlauf des Buches. Die Nebencharaktere mochte ich sogar noch mit am meisten. Sie sind viel stärker ausgearbeitet, als Gillian und Chase.
Der Schreibstil gefiel mir ganz gut. Jedoch wurde er schnell eintönig und ich habe keine Wandlung gemerkt. Es gab keine Momente, die mich mitfiebern oder hoffen ließen. Wo ich auch gleich bei der Handlung bin. Es gab keinen Tiefgang, keinen Bezug auf die Charaktere. Die Protagonistin blieb ihren Prinzipien nicht treu und der Fokus lag wirklich nur auf den Sexszenen. Mir ist klar, dass das Buch ein Erotik-Roman ist. Jedoch erwarte ich eine gewisse Handlung und nicht in jedem Kapitel für 4-6 Seiten Sex zwischen den Charakteren. Die Kapitel waren mir somit zu langweilig und irgendwann wird es auch nervig, wenn nichts Spannendes passiert.
Erst gegen Ende des Buches wurde die Handlung spannend und ich war tatsächlich an das Buch gefesselt. Doch das "überraschende" Thema zum Schluss wurde nicht weiter aufgegriffen. Es spielt eine größere Rolle in den weiteren Teilen. Zudem wird man stark gespoilert, wenn man die Klappentexte der nachfolgenden Teile liest. Ich bin sehr enttäuscht, empfehle es euch nicht weiter und werde die Reihe ganz sicher nicht weiterlesen.
When I found out that Audrey had a new book coming out, I had to jump on board. I adored her Falling series. They contained such witty, fun loving, strong characters; her sex scenes were hawt and she had a lovely writing style that I quite enjoyed. So, naturally I jumped on board, no questions asked. It wasn't until I finished the first chapter that I thought I'd better go and read the synopsis to find out what I was getting into (LOL).
Gillian Callahan, or Gigi to all her friends is a 24 year old redheaded beauty that has experienced more than a 24 year old woman should have in her years. Her dad skipped out when she was little and therefore was raised alone by her mum. No other siblings or extended family, Gillian grew up essentially alone, her mum trying to teach her that you need to be self-reliant.
"Take a look in the mirror, Gigi. You see that person? That's the only person you can count on in this world. Never expect a man to be your everything. He will fail miserably. If you want something in life, you must go after it."
Unfortunately, Gigi's mother passes young, taken by cancer and Gigi ends up getting lost in man. The wrong type of man. Gigi becomes the victim of domestic violence. Now those of you follow me would know that I have a soft spot for books that contain real life issues, or what some would call confronting or dark. Domestic violence, rape, abuse - whether it be emotional, mental or physical is real. Here in Australia one in three women will experience domestic violence at some point in their adult life (AIC, 2014). I love it when authors try to address these types of issues. This is a topic I'm passionate about - no wonder I'm half way through obtaining degrees in both Justice and Law. Anyways, I digress. Gigi meets the delicious billionaire, Chase Davis.
Sculpted cheek bones rise as his head tips back in laughter. He's the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome in the inky suit that sits on, quite possibly, one of the most perfect forms I've seen. In a word, he's magnificent.
I quite liked Gigi's character (particularly her dislike for seafood, because in my opinion, she's right - their bottom dwellers, it's like eating the cockroaches of the sea haha). She could be a bit wishy-washy at times, but given her past it's understandable that she fights to not relinquish all of her control to the rich alpha male that is chasing after her affections. What I also loved was the relationships Gigi had with her friends and to find out that they were loosely inspired by Ms Carlan's real life friends, brings a whole other dimension to them. I would assume a lot of us have friends (I know I have) that are quite similar in their core characteristics, fiercely protective and accepting, yet ready to be straight with you and serve you a platter of whoop ass when you need it!
Chase has some similar demons of his own from his past and in typical billionaire, alpha male style, Chase tries to fix problems with his money and power. Chase is definitely the typical rich billionaire that we have seen in so many books, so in that aspect he kind of annoyed me, yet I do have a soft spot for them as Christian Grey will always be my number one book boyfriend.
I know I won't always make the best decisions when it comes to you. You bring out the control freak in me. I want you safe, I want to protect you and provide for you. I want to give you everything your heart desires.
All in all, a great start to the trilogy and I'm looking forward to Gigi's and Chase's story continuing in the next part.
10 Outrageous Stars but 5 on here
I was given this book for my honest review
A Thanksgiving dinner in preparation is what this book reminds me of. Every dish prepared to perfection with the utmost care to detail. If the dishes aren’t just right the main course falls short or does it?
Chase-handsome, sweet and hunky total Alpha male
Gillian (GiGi)-sassy, pretty and smart, outspoken and scared
Chase is in his element the epitome of a man. He can have any woman he such desires at any given time. With eyes that show so brightly like the northern star. He revels in what he believes to be true. He is a man that is missing something in his life. He insists that he has everything a man could want but is this to be true? Is he just living in the moment or does he want something more? Can he find the connection to a woman that makes his heart and life complete? Does this woman exist? And will she be able to complete him in ways that no other could? This man does so much good for the world isn’t time that he has something wonderful happen to him?
Gillian is a woman with a scarred past that is living everyday and rising above her fears so she thinks and hopes. The past is the past as she so richly thinks. She is a survivor in all accounts of the word but to what cost? Will she be able to find love? Will she rise above her fears and be the woman she so richly deserves to be? Can she find a man that she can give her heart to without reservation or will she fall short? She puts on a brave front to those in front of her but what about to the man across the room? Can she find it within herself to take the leap? She has risen from the ashes on so many accounts but will she rise again to the bright northern light?
Chase and Gillian’s journey is one that will have you laughing and crying in all the right places. The sex between these two is hotter than a gas grill at a summer’s cookout. The heat that they possess when within feet of each other is totally blissful. They live in each others eyes for the future but with the past lurking behind them can they make it to the future with one another without turmoil or will something or someone stand in their way? Can they move past the past and move towards a future together? This is their journey.
This is the first book in this brand new series from this author. I for one can’t wait till the next book.
Awesome read. For all these questions that I have asked you will have to pick up this one of a kind book.
To the author: Thank you so much for letting me review this one of a kind read that had me from page 1 and pulled at my heartstrings to the very last page. The realness that you brought between these two characters was in itself hot. Taking two people from different walks in life and bringing them together was a roller-coaster that I am happy to say was an awesome ride. You made this reviewer cry, laugh and scream but in all goodness. I truly can’t wait to see have in store for your next book.
Happy Reading.
Gillian Callahan is a survivor. She a survived an abusive relationship and over time with the help of her soul sisters to put her life back together. When she meets Chase Davis, she is instantly attracted to him, but she does not want to end like she was before. So, she tries to keep her distance, but fate has other idea’s when she is attacked on street.
Chase knows what he wants and he wants Gillian. He is not willing to give up on what he wants, which is a chance at a future with her. Can Gillian give Chase a chance when all she has known is pain from men? What happens when Gillian and Chases past resurfaces? Is their relationship strong enough to survive everything?
I am just gonna start with by saying I love Gillian. I won’t go into too much detail but she went through hell with her last relationship and still somehow managed to pull herself together enough to function. She is not perfect, she has lots of scars on the outside and inside that she deals with but she is still trying in her own way. When she meets Chase, you could feel the attraction but Chase screws up and puts his foot in his mouth. I love seeing her interact with her ‘Soul Sisters’, they have a deep bond that gives each woman the strength to get through whatever life throws at them.
I have to admit I am grateful Chase isn’t perfect either, his Alpha tendencies, need to dominate, protect is explained. You get to see why he is the way he is in the first book, which I love. I could tell he truly loves her and everything that comes with her the good and the bad. I’m still on the fence about his driver/bodyguard. At times, I liked this character but other times I wanted to smack his arrogant face.
I can not wait until the next book is released! This is a definite one-click book! I highly recommend this book!
This is the first story I’ve read from this author and it certainly won’t be my last, actually going to go look over her list of previously written stories to check them out!
As soon as you begin the story, it just draws you in, you keep turning page after page and the story just keeps getting better and better. Chase and Gillian meet at a bar of a hotel and that meeting was quite intense. From there the story really picks up and you get to know the characters. Gillian has a tragic past and she’s not sure anyone can love her. While Chase is very dominant and used to getting his way and he wants her.
Their path to finding some type of relationship is full of unexpected stops at the hospital, then his penthouse. Their attraction is very strong but can it survive the fears they both face.
I had all kinds of feelings when reading this story, I could feel the intensity of their feelings for each other. I felt sadness at what Gillian went through in her previous relationship. I also felt sad at how lonely Chase was and glad that he got to meet Gillian who brought a rainbow to his world. Let’s not forget the sexy scenes, really heart pounding. I love the group of friends around Gillian who all support each other . I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next installment with both of these exciting characters.
