Just Mackintosh: for now I will give it 4 stars

Update: I noticed a detail which deserves the fifth star.

Man from Glasgow:
If this was Maugham’s first try at horror, it was a good one. Fabulously spooky! Also made you tenderly sympathetic for the ghost and how sadly it died :(

McIntosh : (which is actually from “Little stories of the south sea islands”)
Wonderful character study of a man with so many incongruences, and yet they all seem to make sense. Maugham’s has a special talent for this. Sparse where he needs to be, but key behaviors sliced and diced how they should be. What a treat !

Really bad, terribly written, and oddly racist. Don’t waste your time
