So why the hell am I underneath him at this party?
One reckless moment just turned my world upside down.
Cade Connolly is a condescending, entitled, cheating a-hole with an infuriating smirk that makes me want to scream.
But then I catch a glimpse of something real beneath that arrogance.
Suddenly we're sneaking around behind my ex's back, and I'm burning alive every time Cade touches me.
My body betrays me, craving him like a drug I can't quit.
Every touch leaves me trembling, begging for more.
His fingertips rewrite our history on my skin.
His whispers against my neck make me forget why I ever hated him.
What started as a mistake has become something else entirely.
This twisted thing between us was built on betrayal, and our secret can't stay buried forever.
We're playing with fire behind closed doors.
When Cade has to choose between me and his best friend,
I'm scared to know his answer.
Their friendship has survived years—
While I'm just the girl who was never supposed to matter.
And I'm terrified I never will.
Don’t Puck Your Best Friend’s Girl is an ex’s best friend hockey romance novel in the Don’t Puck Around series. This book can be read as a standalone, but if you want to read his brother’s book first, it’s called Don’t Puck the Wrong Brother.
The writing kept me reading but the Characters were annoying. He was devious at first but got better. But she was still lying all the way through? Then she would never take her roomies advice. It was annoying.
Saylor was hard to like and by the end I still never cared for her. She was kind of a crummy person and so desperate for attention she didn’t care where it came from. Her pick me attitude was annoying. I didn’t care for how she was so judgmental. Cade was a cheat with no good reason and he technically didn’t redeem himself in my opinion. He just threw away his friendship with Byron who was loyal to him, for a fickle girl. The relationship of him not being supported by his mom was not resolved. And he and his brother’s relationship was cringy and it didn’t convey a sincere bond. I had too high hopes and was let down
The forbidden aspect of this book is what made me pick this one up and read it.
Parts were good, other parts not so much, I felt like the FMC was very back and forth and I get it to an extent but I thought it was mentioned way to much about her hot and cold attitude. If I were Cade I’d have said “this was fun” and hightailed it out of there.
I liked the story. Cade yes was a prick at times but saylor annoyed the ever loving crap out of me. She was so judgmental and cast blame while being a child about situations. Glad she hopefully finally grew up.
52% in and COCKLE DOODLE DO was the kiss of death for me. (spoilers ahead) If you read the first book, then you know this one is about Cade (the cheating brother) and his new h, Saylor, who happens to be dating Cade’s BFF, Bryon. (JFC the names in this book)
When the book starts, h is dating H’s BFF, Bryon. She’s unhappy in the relationship because Bryon spends all his time playing video games and ignoring her. She doesn’t like Cade at all because she knows he cheated on Hannah (h from the first book) the night that Hannah accidentally had smex with Cade’s brother. h texts Bryon and breaks up with him. Naturally, Bryon is confused because h has never told him how she feels.
Bryon calls H and wants him to talk to h. He assumes she broke up with him because she's angry that H is a cheater.
H is still very angry at his brother, Sanderson (H from the first book), and H decides to join the hockey team. I suppose he aspires to be better than his brother. The tension between the brothers is high.
H and h run into each other at a party. It sounds like h is very drunk. They go into a room together “to talk,” and H ends up alluding to the fact that he was FORCED into smex the night he cheated on Hannah. His exact words, “taken advantage of” (I remember from the first book- H calling Hannah nasty names and telling her the girl he cheated with was better in bed anyway. He never said anything to Hannah about being taken advantage of.)
Saylor (h) is all like “omg, H is so wonderful and he’s actually a decent guy,” then they have VERY cringey smex.
These two didn’t even wear a condom. It’s okay, though; she’s on birth control. h KNOWS that H is a cheater and has been with many women. She's totally okay with him not wearing a condom. Wut? He even said that he thinks he has a condom in his pocket, and she's like naw, that's okay. I'm on birth control. *face palm for stupidly*
MCs go back out to the party, and h continues to get even more hammered. As she is leaving with her friends, she says some hurtful things to H.
The next morning, h wakes up with an excessive amount of calls/texts from her ex. I guess during the night, she called and told him she slept with somebody else, and she wouldn’t tell him who. He said, “You replaced me so F’ing fast, Saylor. And then you call me to make sure I know about it. Did you want to hurt me? Is that it?” I mean….she was literally so drunk she was sleeping in her own vomit. Eek
At the same time, H is also waking up hungover and feeling bad. He starts thinking about all the great things his BFF has done for him over the years. Ugh, BFF sounds like a really great BFF. (Technically, there was no cheating, but I just don’t like H or h. Something about all this is just gross. The fact that she called to rub it in his face just upsets me.)
H and h decide to tell BFF. BFF is devastated, and he says some hurtful things. He also tells H all the bad stuff h has said about him over the year. He told them both they deserve each other. YESSS
It seems like the next day, H and BFF semi-made up during class. As they walked out, they both saw h and avoided her. She was hurt. lol......like girrrrrrrl In H's own POV he says "bros before h*es." Soooo gross.
Slowly, Cade and his brother seem to be establishing their relationship. (I think there are way too many chapters devoted to the characters doing boring things. Like h playing pickleball or H playing hockey)
THEN this happens.
This is one of the cringiest lines I’ve ever read in a book. H’s POV about his brother “he’s better looking than me, Was blessed with the bigger cockle doodle do, and he’s a good athlete” COCKLE DOODLE DO????????? Wtf?
I really liked this book. It was great to see how Cade and Saylor both developed and how Cade matured throughout the story. I like how Cade began to understand how his brother felt
2.5 stars. Cade made up for his behavior and had more layers than you would know from book 1. However Saylor wasn't my match as a character. I found her annoying, didn't see much development as a character.
Ok this was spicier than the last one so yes yo that. I think this was a good realistic college romance. The random bs is way better than the meet cute. Appreciate that they didn’t need mouthwash in the act…lol great improvement.
More of a 3.5 star book. Not as good as the first, but still good. The virtual voice was done really well in duet format. I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was virtual if I didn’t know.
