This book had a great description of the geography, history, people and culture. It has a ton of pictures which I like. It describes major sites but it does not list specifics like opening hours and prices. Nor does it have much in the way of hotel and restaurants.
It is a good book to begin research on a trip to Norway. It gives a good background on the country and then it would help you to decide where to go. Then you would want another guidebook for planning the details.
Started this book prior to a trip to Norway, continued to read it on the plane. Both my father and I found it to be the best of a series of guidebooks I had consulted. Even with all the pretty pictures there was both more in-depth information about the country/culture/history and more accurate information about hours for various recommended sites to visit. Expect to continue to use it as I put together photos and memories from the trip to share with friends and family.
Easy-to-read introduction to the country, with essays on history, culture, and important features of Norway. Not really a practical travel guide as such but more of an overview á la National Geographic. Lots of photos and maps. Good for the planning stage of my trip, but I left it at home when I actually went to Norway.
Truth be told, I skimmed it. If that. But I turned nearly every page...stopped only when I got to the index. I believe it will be helpful in deciding what to do and where to go in Norway. PS By marking this "read" I'm not quite so far behind on my 2016 challenge of a book per week. Which is a rather wimpy goal.
This book has lots of short chapters about the regions in Norway and what you can see and do there. Some of the places could do with some more suggestions, but overall a decent and useful guide about Norway.
