London resident and publishing editor Ellie Baxter’s world is turned upside down when she catches her rich fiancé with drugs and two prostitutes in their bed. Oh and then discovers he lost his job six months ago and has blown their joint savings. Thus, a change of scenery is in order, and what better way to spend a month including the holidays than in a gorgeous remote island rental overlooking the Loch with a hunk of a man who speaks in double entendres. Of course, Ellie doesn’t know that said hunky and mysterious caretaker is part of the package when she signs up to rent the property, but she soon learns there are quite a few perks included with the rental.

All part of the service.

Ellie and Dan are instantly drawn to each other and they embark on a sexually charged relationship that even they struggle to define. At times it’s “friendship” because Dan refuses to get involved further; other times it’s friends with partial benefits; and then on occasion it’s a distant renter/caretaker business interaction.

Ellie is a talker who often speaks candidly and shares her personal hardships and recent heartbreak. Dan is a loner, determined to maintain his privacy while shielding huge aspects of his life and undertaking a mysterious errand to the mainland each day and allotting Ellie one personal question per day that he is often elusive answering.

There is plenty of intrigue to the story and this mystery aspect kept me engaged till I felt it drug on a little too long. There is so much back and forth, hot and cold, between Ellie and Dan that after a certain point I just wanted the plot to move forward.

Who really is Dan? What happened in the past to make him such a recluse and emotionally unavailable? What secrets does he harbor?

Dan starts out an intriguing, physically exquisite character, and most of his dialogue/banter with Ellie is interesting and well written. On the surface he certainly seems like the fantasy man to be secluded on a remote winter island with. But eventually his intensely mercurial behavior became tiresome. As for Ellie…well she comes off as a bit of a weak female character— easily deceived, lacking independence, and at times a doormat to the men in her life. I really didn’t get why she was even considering just taking “a break” from her fiancé after everything he did. And then at one point she says she could forgive him for the women and the drugs, but she’s mostly mad he kept her in the dark and even considers taking blame for not pushing him to share more! (Oh Ellie, where is your backbone and self esteem?) I definitely had some issues with Ellie’s character traits that kept me from connecting with her.

Told via mostly Ellie’s first person point of view with a few chapters from Dan’s, the story blends elements of romance, mystery, and erotica. The setting is unique, well described, and helps lend to the intrigue aura of the story. This is a two part story where larger secrets are revealed but the details withheld for the next book, 31 Days of Summer, releasing December 26th. Therefore, Ellie and Dan’s story is not resolved in this installment. As a reader who likes closure at the end of a book, I definitely felt frustrated with the pace of the story. And while I mostly guessed at Dan’s secrets, I can’t say they were ones that left a pleasant taste at the end. That’s not to say that the circumstances of Dan’s secret may not redeem him in the conclusion (I certainly hope they do), but where it leaves off may not appeal to some readers, depending on your tastes and preferences.

Exceptional book, I loved it.. it is a love story with a difference, lots of highs and lows which will have you holding your breath. 2 very strong main characters in Dan and Ellie around which the story revolves gave me a sense of honour and betrayal. The sex scenes are fab and well written, in fact the whole book itself was I thought was written to a very high standard. C J Fallowfield`s books seem to be getting better by the book and this one is no exception. I highly recommend this book, bearing in mind the wait for book 2 isn`t far away. I was given this ARC to read for an honest review.

Ummm let me start off by saying.... WTH...CJ CJ CJ....you sure know how to leave us hanging and begging for more. I really liked this book. Ellie was such a strong woma...Hell she had to be to deal with Dan. I was living him till he started his crap. I'm hoping he will get a chance to steal my heart; which I seriously doubt because Luc is got it wrapped so tight around his fingers it can't pump blood sometimes lol....I can't wait to get my hands on book 2.

I can't tell you how many times I've been turned off by a book simply because a reviewer, the publisher, or even the AUTHOR compared it to 50 Shades of Grey. Seriously people? Am I the only sane woman living on the planet? The only one who HATED 50 Shades? Anyway, let me begin by saying 31 Days of Winter is 10 times better, leaps and bounds better...

I'm well into my 30s so that whole angsty, emotional roller-coaster of "will they/ won't they" is no my favorite plot device in contemporary romance but somehow CJ Fallowfield made it endurable. I must say though when the relationship was finally consummated...I had to go out on my back porch for a smoke! The tension between Ellie and Dan was palpable and hot like fire but my GOD when they finally gave in? WOW! I also enjoyed the humorous emails back and forth between Ellie and Brooke; their BFF banter was adorable.

Overall my only grievance with the book is that it would have been nice if it were about 50-70 pages shorter. I don't understand why all these romance writers feel the need to write novels that are a length to rival War and Peace. A great story is STILL a great story even if it's only 270 pages. Luckily, I had a few days off from work so I was able to tackle this one without stopping other than to tinkle and make toast, haha! Anyway, if you're on the fence about checking this one out, take the plunge but make sure you've got a few days to kill because you won't want to stop once you've started.

I have to say every book I read by CJ Fallowfield just gets better and better, and this was no exception. CJ has a way of drawing you from the very beginning and taking you on a wild ride of sexual tension, mystery, humor, love, and heartbreak, with some hot and steamy sex mixed in.

Ellie just wants to get away for a while, live her dream then come back to a fresh start. Dan lives on the secluded island that Ellie has decided to stay while writing her novel. Dan a man of mystery, never revealing anything about himself. Oh how I loved Dan one minute while wanting to slap him the next. But, I mean who wouldn’t want to be tucked away on a deserted island with a tall, dark, sexy, and so swoon-worthy man that tells you nothing can ever happen.

All of the characters are great and I love how all characters, including all secondary characters, have a purpose to the story. I swear I felt every emotion while reading this book. I laughed, got frustrated, hot and bothered, there were times I wanted to fling my kindle across the room, was shocked and oh did I swoon. I promise you will not regret reading this book.

Looking to crank up the temperature on your e-reader? 31 Days of Winter will definitely do that and allow you to escape to a remote area of Scotland, if only for a little while. Dan and Ellie are two people hot for each other but there's something more hidden deep within. My heart went out to Ellie for all that she's been through. She deserves happiness and I was rooting for her the whole time. A fantastic romance with plenty of hot scenes to singe your fingers.

Wow I did not expect to like this book as much as I did!!! My biggest problem with it was I felt like it was about 100 pages too long. I love a good pine but the back-and-forth felt like we were on a merry go round and nothing was furthering the story or the character arcs along, it was just repetitive pining. The same cycle, over and over. Some of the dialogue was a little lengthy but made up for it with the overall story.

With that said- the actual storyline, smut, and characters were great. I hadn’t enjoyed a book like this since I finished the Bared to You series. I cannot wait to read book 2!

I as given an ARC copy by the author for an honest review.

Beware to get lured in and not want to stop reading until you are done! Another wonderful, addicting story by CJ Fallowfield! Your emotions will run wild! Love, hurt, betrayal, passion, to just name a few.

Ellie takes a month long break from her now broken life after finding her fiance in bed with not one but two prostitutes. Needless to say this truly broke her heart along with trust for a man. After loosing her parents, she only relied in her best friend, Brooke, to always be there for her. Brooke convinced her now was the time to have her fresh new start in life, to take the next month off and pursue her dream of writing. It took a little convincing but Ellie knew Brooke was right. She gave in and put her two weeks notice at her current job and Brooke found her a rental far away so she can have her peace and quiet to try out her writing. If after a month she found it wasn't for her she could always find another job while always having a place to stay with Brooke as long as she needed. To her this was a win win situation. That was until she got the phone call from the rental property. She was immediately drawn to Dan, the person who would take care of her while she away. She had no idea what that extent would be. When she first laid eyes on him at the airport, she knew she was in for it. He was all muscle, tall, dark handsome with dark hair and grey flecks! Her body reacted and he noticed! Every day that passed, she wanted to know more about him only to find out he gave very few details about his life! From this point on you are totally hooked!
I cried tears for them but at the same time they both frustrated me on how stubborn they were. I truly felt the hurt and that's what is so amazing in CJ's writing, the ability to make you feel that and the physical chemistry she adds along the way, is just mind blowing! Definitely A recommended book!

An authors summary of 31 Days of Winter

What would you do if everything you thought you knew about your relationship turned out to be a lie? If your boss made you dread going to work each morning, despite the fact that you enjoyed what you did? If you had a dream that you'd never followed because you liked routine and stability?

26 year old Ellie Baxter was forced to face some truths along with her fears of change, helped by a push in the right direction from her out spoken best friend Brooke. Ellie takes a four week rental, with the intention of spending the time alone deciding what she really wants from her life and seeing if she has what it takes to actually follow her dreams.

The gorgeous caretaker of the island that she has escaped to however, is an instant distraction. Sexual sparks fly from the moment he picks her up from the tiny local airport, yet while the mutual attraction is undeniable, he insists that nothing can ever happen between them, but as they spend more and more time together is it a promise he can keep?

Can a man and a woman with sizzling sexual chemistry really just be friends?

He wants to know Ellie's life story, but he refuses to give away much about himself, not least where he disappears to for four hours every day. Can Ellie break down his emotional walls as well as tempt him into her bed? Or when she finds out his secret, will she still want him?

"31 Days of Winter" will be followed by the final book "31 Days of Summer" which will be released on 26th December 2014.

This book was an ARC given to me in exchange for an honest review....and what a book !! im used to CJ Fallowfields style of steamy sex combined with humour and romance and yet again I wasnt disappointed...less sex than the Austin series but that in no way changed my opinion of her fantastic writing style. ..in fact I found the steamy scenes more of a turn on due to the build up and tension. ..bit like real life... true LOL moments that ive come to expect and love from this author.. friendships and scenarios that you could be in yourself ....and moments where I wished I was there to shake or shout at the characters...I was so engrossed in the storyline Dan and Ella became my new bff's (best book friends)...I love the journey following their doubts and frustrations and cant wait to join them again in 31 days of summer !!

I really had a tough time rating this one. It's a good read but for me personally it was good the first 75% and great the last 25%. It really is a great story overall between Ellie and Dan. The erotic and romance was just missing until the end and as reading Miss Fallowfield's other books it caught me off guard. The last 25% is extremely hot and detailed. Overall if she would of changed anything the story itself would of lost value and it really is a sweet, emotional, and raw story. The love between Dan & Ellie is undeniable and it pulls you in. There is a lot of emotional pulls, twists, and turns. The attention to detail is flawless. The ending sets the next book up to be a must read. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Wow, hot, tense, funny, frustrating, maddening..... did I mention hot? CJ has a way of making you feel every emotion in the world with a stroke of a few keys on a keyboard. If you are not a fan you are missing out!

Ellie is looking for an escape, from her life. Taking a trip to a secluded island and writing a book is what she is looking to do, but when she arrives she is met by Dan. Dan is mysterious and sexy as sin, the attraction is intense but Ellie has life long dreams to fill with no time for men but will she be able to resist the mysterious handsome man who will be at her beck and call while she is on the island?

Wow! Different type of story from CJ but still gripping to the last page! Secrets play a big role in this story and how they can impact any relationship. Once again CJ delivers! Didn't cry but was on the verge. Loved Brooke as the best friend and her one liners - a little like Lexi! More of a cliff hanger than other CJ stories so I'm looking forward to the next book but I want it now. I did get frustrated with Dan at times as he kept changing his mind and messing Ellie around but no doubt we will read more about him in the next book and his reasons. Thanks for letting me read the book for an honest review. It was a pleasure and I loved that it was based in Scotland! Well done! Tx

4.5 gloriously effed up stars!! Can anyone say days of our lives in book format. Wow the ups and downs between Dan and Ellie was a rollercoaster ride! Mystery, romance in the Scottish highlands, rich hunk pretending to be handyman yum!! All his secrets and his cold and hot persona not so yummy! Actually it started to $iss me off. I need to know the whole story of Dan before I pass judgement, so onto book two. Not necessarily a cliffhanger just not a story wrapped up. Definitely a angst love story with some seriously sexy times! Recommend reading!

Fallowfield - 31 Days of winter

31 Days of Winter was an ARC that C.J. very generously sent me to review. The concept is actually really fun and there was a lot about the book that I really, really loved. However, there were also some things that just frustrated the crap out of me and left me making vulgar notes on my Kindle.

Overall Rating: 3.5 stars- Worth a few minutes before bedtime.

I’ll break it down into good and bad.

Good:

I loved Ellie’s relationship with her best friend. They’re fun and funny and quirky. I was almost as invested in Brooke’s love life as I was in Ellie’s. There’s also a scene where they go shopping for “adult toys” that cracked me up and may have inspired my own personal purchase. (side note: great purchase!)
“I like to use my hands, yes.”

The humor (or humour because the book is British) is spot-on. I love Ellie’s sarcastic sense of humor, and her reactions to things make me certain we’d be fast friends.

The smut – very good. Very, very good. If you’ve read C.J. Fallowfield in the past, you know the woman can make you pant. This is no exception.
“I want all of your orgasms to be mine and I want to bury my face between your legs and tast you for hours. Honest enough for you?”

Bad:
There is so much bait and switch here. Dan runs so hot and cold that I I was beginning to wonder if he had multiple personality disorder. Now, Ellie does comment on this so it’s not like it’s just accepted, but seriously, I wanted to beat him.

Sometimes I felt like things were a little undeveloped. When Ellie calls Brooke to tell her that she’s just caught her fiancé in bed with 2 prostitutes, Brooke’s response is basically “oh, that sucks. Wanna come over?” It just felt a little flat to me.
“Take off your shorts and knickers. I want to drink you.”

The cliffhanger. It’s a doozy. I mean, I actually yelled at my Kindle when I hit the last page. The thing is, I liked the book, but didn’t love it. If it weren’t a cliffy, I’m not sure I’d read the next one. But now I HAVE to because the cliff is steep.

“Wanking’s never going to be good enough for me now.”

In short, 31 Days of Winter is a book worth reading if you’d like some major drama dosed heavily with humor, hot sex, and a giant cliffhanger. Or if you need a dose of a handsome, mysterious, maddening man.
“I could spend days worshiping this body.”

Smut Factor: 5 stars- Had to wake my husband at 2am to quench my “need.”
Character likability:
3 stars: Didn’t hate them.
Storytelling:
3 stars- It could happen
Writing and editing quality: 4 stars – Well Done!

OKAY, so I have to say -- once again, how much I enjoy reading anything by this author. Her books are just phenomenal and so captivating. The moment you start reading her books, you just can't pull yourself to stop reading them.

Ellie Baxter is a beautiful 26 year old woman who could be living a great life. She has a fiance who is well off and he treats her well. What more can she ask fro right? WRONG, he hasn't paid attention to her, in like, forever and she feels like there's something wrong with her. Why won't he give her the attention she used to receive from him? Obviously there is something wrong with this picture!

Well when things go all wrong for Ellie, she flees to Scotland to get away and re-evaluate her life for a month. Ellie realizes that the moment she steps foot out of the airport and sees who is picking her up -- she's f*cked big time!

Dan is a mysterious man. He tells Ellie from the start that things cannot escalate and they should and will remain friends. He has a lot of secrets and he just can't bring himself to tell Ellie any of his secrets because he's afraid she'll run. So he'd rather suffer and continue playing the caretaker role.

Things do end up escalating between Ellie and Dan. Dan just couldn't hold back and broke down and gave in. The way he makes love to her is just out of this world type of sex that make Ellie's toes curl. She has only had two men in her life and she thought she had it good with them..... but not until she gets to get a bit of taste from Dan does she realize that her past experiences do not compare to Dan. She realizes that she's in BIG trouble once they have sex because she knows that even though it sounds crazy that they've only known each other for a short period of time, she feels it in her heart that she has fallen for this mysterious, sexy, beautiful man.

Can Dan break down and just confess all his secrets to Ellie or will he let her run away and let her go forever?

I LOVED this book. It captivated me from the moment I started reading this book up until the end. CJ's books do this to me. They consume me and I love everything about her characters. They sound so real and you feel like you're a part of their world as you're reading about them.

If you haven't already started reading any of her books, I suggest you get to it. You will love them. The raw and sexiness these books have will have you wanting more when you're done reading them.

31 days of winter by C.J. Fallowfield

5 fantastic, panty wetting, heart melting, stomach churning stars

Firstly I'd like to say thank you for giving me the privilege of reading this beautiful book in exchange for a review, I seriously loved it.
Ellie is a young, attractive woman who lives in a swanky London pad with her fiancé Zac. Things are ticking along nicely with her and her husband-to-be, until one fateful day when she leaves work early to 'primp and polish' herself in time for Zac's birthday. Things quickly go down hill for Ellie and she flee's to her best friend Brooke's house to get away from the mess while she figures out what she wants to do.
Ellie has always aspired to be a writer. She works in an editing job where she reads and edits other people's books all day and all she wants is to produce her own novel. Brooke is the spunky best friend who persuades Ellie to take some much needed time out and get away for a while. So, Ellie quits her job, packs a bag and gets on a plane to Scotland where her life will never be the same again.
Dan is a sexy, moody and arrogant 'arsehole'. He expects everyone to jump when he tells them, and all he is is the 'help', for the clients at the boat house on the loch. He is a mysterious character and his past is his own and he wants know one knowing about him and the ghosts in his closet.
As soon as Dan and Ellie meet, the Sparks fly. They both feel a pull towards each other that neither one can follow through with. Ellie has a fiancé to get back to, and Dan has a dark past that he can't escape. Will these two people defeat the odds and find the lives of their life? Or will their pasts come back to bite them?
I really recommend this novel. You get absolutely loads of excitement, tension, passion, anger, list and love you won't know what to do. This book made me cry one minute and laugh the next. A stunning romance for the soul.
50 shades move over, there's a new cat in town and she's fierce. C.J, you seriously can write an epic story. 31 days of summer can't come soon enough xxx

Emotional, humorous, sensual, breath taking, heart wrenching…

31 Days of Winter takes the reader on an odyssey of suspense, betrayal, heart break, realization, discovery, laughter, heart stopping love and emotion, back to heart breaking. It’s an emotional roller coaster ride. The characters are so relatable the reader can feel their tension, their pain, their happiness, and their love shared even when they will not admit it.
There are some very steamy, sensual, sexual scenes. C.J. Fallowfield also knows how to capture the attention of her reader with some truly laugh until you cry or laugh out loud moments between best friends. Best to remember to use the bathroom and have kleenex close while being immerse in this book.

C.J. Fallowfield shows her readers that 31 days can change one’s life in all sorts of ways, she kept me turning the pages so quickly that the end came far to soon leaving me saying “No you can’t leave it there, there has to be more? I am impatiently waiting for 31 Days of Summer.

This book was soooooooooo frustrating !!!!
The best summary would be : "Let's go one step forward, the then steps behind!"
Probably my expectations were too high...
At first I was very pleased because the story begins very well: quickly we met Zac (and of course, I hated the arsehole!), I connected with poor Ellie and LOVED her best friend Brooke. The beginning of the book is successful. That was promising.
But.... soon I became really, really bored. It was often very predictable and way too long. Maybe if the book was at least 100 pages less (if not 150) it would have been better. Maybe.
I didn't like Dan one minute (he is the most responsible of my displeasure) so I don't think I'll read the second book, my reading time is too much precious to be wasted ! I was very disappointed but I seem to be the only one in this condition ... so take a chance and read it to make you own opinion :)

PS) I didn't like either the series Austin by this author, so maybe I am just not the good reader for her work.

Star Rating: *****
Ellie works as an editor and loves her job but dreads going to work each day and having to deal with her cranky boss. So when her life turns upside down with a shocking truth about her relationship her best friend convinces her to book a Christmas getaway. When she gets there for the start of her 28 day retreat from life she is met from the airport by a Scottish hunk that makes Ellie shiver with need. Can she keep it together and just stay friends like he wants? Or will the chemistry they clearly both share take over?

This isn't my first C. J. Fallowfield read and it won't be my last. I absolutely loved the start of this trilogy. The characters were so likeable and the lead male was drop dead gorgeous. We spent a lot of time getting to know both characters which I enjoyed given they will star in future books and learnt just enough for each aspect of the story. I still groaned with disappointment when I turned the last page as I need more. I cannot wait to pick up the next book and continue on with this story.

A love story with more highs and lows than I can count. A man that fights what he wants deep down for what he believes is for the good of the woman that wants him more than anything else. The woman that has been dealt an incredibly crappy hand as far as guys and relationships go. You go through the roller coaster of emotions with the characters, and you want them to have the best happily ever after, while you also at the same time want to beat Dan in the head with the book itself. Everyone needs to read this book.

If you detest repetitive long drawn out stories - don't start on this one.
The story has an open ending at the end of the first book, so you have to buy the sequels to finish the story. All the scenes start getting really repetitive especially in the second book. The characters are too good to ring true and their supposed faults are very contrived and immature. I'm not getting the 3rd one and started to skim through the second. A lot of the scenes have started me gagging.

Ellie Baxter is a 26 yr old senior editor in a publishing firm, whose relationship is stagnant and she feels unfulfilled and underutilised in her career.
Wow.
Absolutely fantastic read.
I loved the story and the characters.
I loved how Ellie was with Dan.
This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. 5 *.
