The title of this book is "Creepy,Crawly, Caterpillars," by Margery Facklam and is illustrated by Paul Facklam. The book was published by Little, Brown and Company. Book was copyrighted in 1996.

This book is very interesting because it talks about 13 different kinds of caterpillars. The book gives all of the vitals of each of them, where they are found, what they eat, where they live, etc... It is also neat because at the bottom of each page is each individual caterpillar's life cycle and all of them are different but the end result is almost always a moth or butterfly, the only exception is the Green Grappler. The pictures are good in this book and the pages are somewhat long, maybe longer than the average student will have patience reading.

Activities:
1.) One activity I would do is to round up some caterpillars that are native to where I am teaching. I would put them in a jar and we, as a class, could watch the life cycle of a caterpillar. It would change into a cocoon and come back as a butterfly or moth. This would be great for visual learners.
2.) There are 13 caterpillars in this book. I would assign one caterpillar to a group of two students and each group would be responsible for researching their caterpillar out of the book and making a poster with a picture of their caterpillar on the poster and things about that caterpillar. This would let the students be creative in their drawing/artwork.

All about caterpillars. Begins with features general to caterpillars, followed by 2 page spreads on 13 specific caterpillar types. Band at the bottom each page highlights the life cycle, captions give names or very brief description. Colorful illustrations. Size relationships are aided by scattered leaves. Reference aids: table of contents, glossary.

I love the colorful cover. Caterpillars were my favorite sort of "pet" when I was about 4 years old. I used to use empty jam jars to catch them on the back patio and them watch them eventually turn into butterflies! I let my son read the book to me at night and I even learned something new about caterpillars.
