A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

Never mix business with one night of playful, sizzling pleasure...

If lawyer Angie O'Hare needed another reason to hate New York City, this would be it. Locked out of her room and stranded in the hallway. Wearing only a towel. Lovely. But then, rescue arrives--in the form of the wickedly hot, funny guy in the penthouse next door. Angie is so relieved that she ignores her usual buzz-kill tendencies, and agrees to have a drink with Mr. Sexy Salvation...

But things don't stop at just a drink. Or even a hot make-out session.

Cue one night of hot, ultra-x-rated sexy time. No names. No personal information. And the next morning, Angie sneaks out, returning to her prim-and-proper life, every hair in place. But New York City isn't done with Angie yet. Because her meeting that morning is with CEO Jed Worth... whose bed she did everything but sleep in last night! And Jed isn't the sort of man to take "conflict of interest" as an answer...

2 - "A whiff of you-know-what." Stars.

Tempting the CEO is the first work I have read by Angela Claire, it is a quick read that unfortunately left me frustrated, and totally unsatisfied at its end.

”Don’t expect acrobatics in bed,” … “I’m a strictly meat-and-potatoes guy.”

I am usually a massive fan of the Brazen Novella, but the elements that make me normally love them just weren't in this one.

· The sex lacked build-up, depth and description.

· Angie and the 1st person, in her perspective felt stilted and a little juvenile at points.

· I liked Jed, but I felt zero connection between them at any point in the book.

· Having both of their mothers in the story seemed to take up pages that could have been better used giving them better sex and chemistry together.

This is a book that has the potential to be really good, hence my frustration at its end, if it was reworked and the 1st person taken out completely I think it has the ‘meat-and-potatoes’ in its foundation, to give it the emotional depth and development for both the H/h that it is lacking right now.

*Yawn*..

Angelina O'Hare had spent an exhausting day negotiating a contract on behalf of a client, and it was destined to drag on a few days more yet. All she needed, when she got back to the hotel, was a long soak and a glass of something cold. Whilst slipping out of her room to grab some ice wrapped only in a towel, her hotel door shut and wouldn't re-open.

Not to worry, her gorgeous neighbour was privy to her predicament, and following a flirty exchange, offered to assist her.

Jed Worth had also had a testing day, and envisaged it greatly improving when he found the towel wrapped damsel. After a little teasing, and feeling rebuffed, Jed suggested a little meet up later on, and hoped he could help to change her mind.

This was a very short story that I struggled to gain a connection to. The story was over familiar, and offered nothing new to me. The character development was superficial, which contributed towards my non investment in the story. The steam factor was tepid to say the least, and not what I would expect from a Brazen publication. :-(

I'd say this is a 3.5. I think it was too short to do any real development.

First person POV is usually my preference in books as I always seem to get more invested in the characters. In the case of this one? It couldn't be more opposite. I did not connect to the writing style AT ALL. It was awkward, too cheesy for my taste, and to be quite frank it just read like a teenager's diary. I didn't feel like was being shown anything, but told.

Then there were quotes like this:

...ready to climb on his lap or crawl beneath him or roll around on the expensive carpet. In a word, get right down to it. He pulled back with a shaky laugh, as if slowing us down. I hadn't come back over here to slow down, and if he hadn't gotten the message before, I wanted to be perfectly clear about it right now. Deliberetly, I brought my hand to his erection- his huge erection- and he sucked in a breath.

You want me to go down on you?" he asked, husky.
"Actually, I was thinking more like the meat part of the meat-and-potatoes thing might be nice."

Let me remind you that this is supposed to be a grown woman and attorney talking. She sounds more like a horny teenager.
You're really good with that," I couldn't help offering. "Thanks. You make it easy."
"Oh yeah? It doesn't feel easy. It feels hard."
"Is that your version of dirty talk? Because I've got to tell you, ah, you might want to work on it."
"How about 'please do me with your nice big cock?"

And at this point I thought my eyes would permanently get stuck in the back of my head, I was rolling them so much.

Sorry, but this was not my cuppa. Just doesn't seem I connect to this type of writing style, so I highly doubt I'd continue with this series in the future.

Tempting the CEO is a short read and, as can sometimes be the case with shorter novellas, I didn't have the time to become invested in the characters. Usually Brazen novellas hit the spot, but I'm afraid this one missed it as whilst it has intimacy, it was on the cool side; the level of passion I'm used to from this imprint never really materialised. I liked Jed - he was cheeky, fun and relentless but Angie didn't really have much personality shine through, despite it being told from her perspective. I did enjoy the epilogue but on the whole I just feel it needed more.

Tempting the CEO is a quick fun hot read. Angie was a riot, loved her wittiness. Jed was a smoking hot take charge kind of man. I loved their instant attraction and the way in which he pursued her. Even though it is a novella, the story flowed very nicely. I do wish that it would have been a little longer because the characters were interesting and I would have liked to have gotten to know them a little better. Still a very enjoyable read.

This story was exactly what a novella should be - short, to the point, and with a HEA! I'm a fan of Angela Claire's heroines because she writes them to be just as smart and strong as her heroes, with a bit of wit and snark thrown in.
If you are looking for a sexy happy ending, then this is for you.

This is a fabulous book and I enjoyed every minute! Two funny, sexy people thrown together for a hot night, what more could anyone want? I freely admit I am a huge Angela Claire fan, I usually like her books longer, but this did not disappoint. I received an advance copy of this book so I could review it, lucky me!!!

Tempting the CEO (a Sleeping With The Enemy) by Angela Claire

Release Date: September 29, 2014

*** ARC provided by author in exchange for an HONEST review. ***

My Synopsis:
Angie O'Hare is a Detroit lawyer and is in New York for her client. After a long day of conference meetings, she finally checked into her room after midnight & all she wanted was to take a long, hot bubble bath. She's been kindly upgraded to a penthouse suite but when she leaves the room to get ice, her key card decided to no longer work, leaving her stranded in the hallway wearing nothing but her towel and mortification. Her decidedly bad day only got worse when her neighbor, Mr Gorgeous Guy, spotted her locked out. To her embarrassment and amazement, he came to her rescue & offered more...
Jed Worth is the CEO of Worth Industries. He took his grandfather's flailing inheritance and began to build it into a conglomeration of mostly computer based business, buying out smaller companies. When he's called into an acquisitions meeting because the opposing lawyer is being a picky little bitch, the last person he expects to see is the woman who sneaked out of his bed earlier that morning.

---

Hot Factor: 3.5

---

Why I chose this book:
I was asked by the author if I'd be interested. I've neither heard of her nor read anything by her before, so I felt I could provide an honest and unbiased review for her. The cover is quite appealing and the synopsis was intriguing.

---

My Thoughts:
First thought: Heh, ain't that some twisted irony?

You have to appreciate the sardonic nature of walking into a conference meeting, expecting to go head-to-head with your opposition only to learn that you were more than head-to-head with the opposition's client just a few, short hours ago.
This is a VERY short story that literally revolves around 2-3 days then flashes forward to a day six months later. This would make a good build-up prequel novella, but as a complete novella I felt it was lacking some plot substance and the ending was a little weak and vague.
The characters, primary and secondary, were enjoyable. The interaction between Angie and Bob was fun. The chemistry between Jed and Angie was nice, not overpowering. While there really was not a lot of dimension to this novella, it was well-written and flowed smoothly.

Final thought: The ending felt rushed and incomplete. I would have liked to seen the story wrap up a little tighter.

Entangled’s Brazen line is known for its hot sexy heroes and sex scenes requiring a shower or two to cool off. While I liked Tempting the CEO, it doesn’t live up to the Brazens I've read in the past. There are love scenes but they aren’t Brazen worthy.

Tempting the CEO is told in first person from the viewpoint of Angie O’Hare. Angie is an attorney from Detroit who is in New York City to broker the sell of her client’s business to Worth Industries. Jed Worth is the CEO of Worth Industries who arrives in NYC to help with the purchase of another company, since it appears the other companies’ attorney is making things harder than necessary.

It’s midnight and Jed arrives at his hotel room to find a beautiful woman in a towel at the ice machine. As luck would have it, the beautiful woman (Angie) gets locked out her hotel room and Jed offers to let her stay in his room, until someone can come up to let her back into her room. The two start to flirt and flirting leads to more. To both of their surprise, the next morning, they discover they are on opposing sides of the purchase negotiations.

I really liked Angie and Jed as characters, but I would have liked to have known a little bit more about them. Some would say that Jake was an alpha, I just saw him as being arrogant; which apparently I find attractive. Angie, for her part, tries really hard to not be her mother so that affects how she comes across to people. Again, a little more background would have been nice.

Tempting the CEO is the start of the Sleeping with the Enemy Series. For me, there wasn’t a character standing out that made me want to read their story. In fact, only stupid Bob (Jed’s attorney) and Cassie (Angie’s best friend) were mentioned as secondary characters.

Angelina is ... well hm - the blurb calls her Angie - but when I was reading the [book] it seemed like she DIDN'T like that ... *shrugs*

Jed is ... kinda like a puppy. But powerful and ~alpha so like... a saber toothed puppy? >.>
[Can you tell it's getting later and later and I'm getting more and more hysterical?]

Erm anyway- if I think about it too much, I'll get a headache with all the suspension of disbelief needed - such as why an associate at a law firm would be the one sent to negotiate a multimillion dollar buyout on her own. To NY[C]. So ... now that's annoyed me and I'm dropping this half a letter grade because COME ON NOW.

Then there's the fact that Jed comes on strong like ... asshole strong. You go with it because it's a romance and they're supposed to get together but I'd say in real life Jed would be someone who gets thrown out of a bar. Or at least slapped across the face. (Do people [still] do that?)

Also then how he's just all "ok I'll double the price just so we can go bang!" ... see? puppy. And then he goes and somehow fast tracks the paperwork (again - ignoring my brain here) - and showing up at her house O_o

And seeing her mom. And his mom meeting HER mom - and the surprise mom meeting and his saying his mom thinks he's a virgin. [Har har?] Although - Jed does have a rather tongue in cheek sense of humor and I liked the self deprecating sense of humor as well. Nice to see in a billionaire "alpha" hero - so that definitely clicked with me.

Interesting twist on the lawyer/client relationship ... I mean if it's the opposing side's client and he's the one pursuing and you're not talking business ever? And you hooked up PRIOR to [knowing] the professional relationship - so technically that's ... ok? [Which is I guess what makes it ok/the creative way of getting around it won points in my book.]

Cute story, some flaws [major flaws?] - but I enjoyed it overall.

Getting caught wrapped in a bath towel and locked out of her hotel suite would be bad enough, but did the catcher need to be so damn gorgeous? Angie agrees to wait in his penthouse for her door to be unlocked, and against her better judgement she winds up burning up the sheets with the obviously sexy and powerful man. Angie doesn't "do" casual hookups, so she's sure it's a good idea to sneak out of his room before he wakes up, however she's stunned to learn the very man who made her come over and over is THE Jed Worth, CEO of the company that she's in town to do business with! Thrown off guard, Angie makes it clear to Jed that she doesn't mix business with pleasure. But Jed didn't get where he is by taking no for an answer and peruses Angie with a single minded determination that is impressive.

This book was provided to me by the author in exchange for an unbiased review, and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this short novella! I tend to steer clear of books with CEO or BILLIONAIRE or similar as part of the title since they tend to lean toward the cheesy in the dialogue and sex categories Fortunately, Tempting the CEO by Ms. Claire is the exception, as Angie and Jed were both fun characters you'd like to share a drink with. Their chemistry was good, though not as mesmerizing as it could've been. And honestly, I thought that Jed leaned toward the selfish side in bed, but hey, if Angie didn't mind, who am I to judge! This book is lighthearted and lightly erotic in a short little package, perfect for a quick read on a fall afternoon. While you won't find anything groundbreaking or unique, Tempting the CEO is still a quick and hot decent read that you'll enjoy.

I was offered a chance to read this novella in exchange for my honest review.
It was a very pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon.

In fact, between the novella and the epilogue, it is almost like getting two reads in one. The actual story itself tosses the reader right into the steamy action at the very beginning.

A very comely Angie, wrapped only in a towel, and staying on the penthouse suite floor of a New York hotel, steps out for a bucket of ice and is spied by the gorgeous and wealthy man staying in the next suite.
When her room key won't allow her back into her own suite, what's a stranger to the city to do?

This delightful short read adds humor to the steamy predicament Angie finds herself in. To make her situation more stressful, that gorgeous one night stand turns out to be someone she is in negotiations with professionally.
She continues to negotiate with Jed throughout the novel.
Add mothers to the mix... well you will just have to read to see where they fit in.

Jed comes off as an experienced playboy but we get hints that there is a lot more to him.
The epilogue fills in some of the details, but I could happily read a novel about Jed and Angelina if the author wants to continue this story.

Never mix business with one night of playful,
sizzling pleasure…

Not an original storyline but when it's well written it makes all the difference between just another version and a truly enjoyable read

Jed and Angie share a night of nameless (well, not real ones anyway), mindblowing sex assuming of course that it's just a one night hook up that will have them going their separate ways the next morning...only it's right into a meeting where Angie O'Hare is the lawyer representing a client whose company Jed Worth, owner and CEO of Worth Industries is negotiating purchase.

For me, when reading a romance, I find that just as important as a well written story is the chemistry between the characters, if I don't feel it, then everything else just comes up short. The witty banter, and sexual chemistry between Jed, and Angie was palpable, their characters felt real to me, not an easy task to accomplish in a Novella. Ms Claire's writing talent is certainly not limited to the Historical Western I'm used to reading. Well done!

Tempting the CEO is an amazing short novel that will leave you breathless and panting for more!

In fact, I would love another novella that speaks about their future, their family, their lives..I would really like to see Jed a bit jealous..You know, a small fight just to spice things up!

But, anyway…

Angelina is a beautiful, successful and intelligent young woman, who thrives in her professional life.

Jed is a handsome, successful and brilliant man, who feels the loneliness but doesn’t know how to fulfill it.

Their lives crash to one another . Ice and towels may be involved.

It’s one of these dreamy stories that you pray to Heaven and all the Gods to happen to you.

Angelina makes the story to push and pull sort of thing and I loved it.

She’s the kind of woman who believes in and searches intelligence and not beauty or money. In fact, I think she dislikes and ignores them.

Jed is the kind of man who doesn’t give up. He takes what he wants.

Tempting the CEO is a sexy short story that will turn up the heat and never let it down...

So I hate to ever come across a book that I don't like and in most cases its been far and few between that I haven't at least really liked/loved the books I read. BUT in the books I read my only real request/requirement for falling in like/love is that I can on some level connect with my characters. Unfortunately for this story & characters that didn't happen for me and because of the amount of disconnect with the main character I honestly couldn't continue on with reading this story. I was left with fighting with myself to keep going, but finally I'm sorry I just had enough of Angelina and I couldn't force myself to continue. There was just an abrassiveness to her character that made you feel like you were trying to pet a porcupine...So sorry but this story just didn't hold any appeal for me. One lonely star from me.

Angie gets stuck outside her hotel room in only a towel and is rescued by her hot neighbor. They end up sharing a night of passion not revealing anything about themselves including names. They part the next morning without words and when Angie shows up at her negotiation she is shocked to discover that he is actually the man bargaining to acquire her client's company. When he turns up on her doorstep when she arrives home from New York, everything changes as they get to know each other.

I absolutely loved the banter between Angie and Jed. You could sense their attraction with every word exchanged. I also adored that their mothers got involved in pushing their relationship forward, but not in a creepy way rather in a we love our kids and want them to stay happy like they are right now way. When I finished their story I couldn't help but want more.

I give Tempting the CEO 4 hearts!

Is the "tempting" in the room with us? It's certainly not in the book. The protagonist (also an Angela like the author which I find strange, especially given her personality) is so petulant and generally unlikeable until we see her in the boardroom, but then gets even worse afterwards in front of her mother. Embarrassing.

Tempting the CEO is the first book that I have ever read by Angela Claire and I had no idea what to expect when starting this one. I really enjoy Entangled Publishing's Brazen line though and the blurb really sold me on this story. While I did enjoy parts of this story, I felt that overall this one just didn't deliver on the promise of what could have been a really good story. This one was really short and I think that was a lot of the problem for me.

When Angie finds herself locked out of her hotel room in nothing but a towel, her sexy neighbor offers to help her out. The attraction between them is instant and they decide to give in to their passion. But Angie leaves the next morning before they ever exchange any information on who they really are. When Angie shows up to her business meeting, she is shocked to find out that they CEO of the company trying to buy her client's business is none other than the guy she spent the previous night with. Jed wants to spend more time with Angie in bed, but Angie is determined to keep things professional now that she knows who he is. But Jed isn't willing to give up easily and is determined to get Angie to spend more time with him.

I liked Jed. He was sexy and in control, he was used to getting his way and didn't want to take no for an answer. He was funny and charming, and I really liked how relentlessly he pursued Angie. Angie on the other hand was hard for me to warm up to. She ran hot and cold, and I just was never able to connect with her character. I kept waiting for things to click with her and they just never did. While I felt the attraction between Angie and Jed, I never was able to really see the emotional connection between the two of them. I felt like their relationship was too rushed and that we just didn't get to see the feelings develop between them. I wanted to see more of them together, rather than Angie fighting it so much. She seemed to constantly change her mind on what she wanted, and it felt like a switch would just randomly flip and it was hard to keep track of what was going on with her.

I did however like the playfulness between Jed and Angie, and they did seem to hit it off right away. I just wanted to see more and see something deeper for them. I also had a tough time with the ending and felt like it was pretty abrupt. It just felt unfinished and I wanted more. While this book was a quick and easy read, I just wasn't wowed with the story. I thought that it was good not great, and wasn't anything new or memorable to me. I also felt like it didn't pack the normal amount of heat that I have come to enjoy and expect from the Brazen line. If you are looking for a short story with a bit of steam and some witty moments, you might consider giving this one a shot. But if you are looking for a strong emotional connection and commitment, this one might not be for you.

Hardworking, straight-laced attorney Angie O’Hare is in New York City on business. She’s had a trying day dealing with belligerent and condescending opposing counsel and all she wants to do is relax in her hotel room. But she soon finds herself locked out of her room in nothing but a towel and face to face with the gorgeous guy across the hall. Throwing caution to the wind, Angie accepts his invitation to join him for a night of wild and abandoned passion. The next morning, Angie sneaks out to avoid the awkward morning after chit-chat, but when she gets to the conference room, she is once again faced with the gorgeous guy from last night – Jed Worth, owner of Worth Industries and client of the opposing counsel!

The trouble with novellas is that writers do not have enough space to draw out plot lines or properly develop characters and as a result the readers rarely have time to connect with the characters or see the plot through to a satisfying conclusion. That was the problem here too. While I enjoyed Angie and Jed’s characters, it was the superficial “oh, these people are fun” type of enjoyment that you get from a first impression rather than from spending any length of time getting to know the characters through their subsequent words and actions as the plot progresses. Angie is very intelligent and a little high-strung – a typical female attorney who is sadly overlooked in a male-dominated profession. Jed is a relentless go-getter who doesn’t let obstacles stand in his way when he wants something. Their night together is steamy and makes for an enjoyable afternoon read. Just wish it could have been longer!

Entangled's Brazen line is my go-to when I need a short novel with little angst, high stakes and hot and steamy sexy times. I wish I could say Tempting the CEO fit the bill, but it really didn't. I didn't click with this story or the characters and, unfortunately, I found the whole story a bit bland.

I loved the idea of this book. The meet cute was perfect – heroine stranded in a hotel hallway in just a towel, rescued by smoking hot next-door neighbor. Sexy times ensue. Then there's a big character reveal in which they learn they work together. It's not an entirely unique idea, but it's a trope I enjoy so I thought it would make for a fun read. I just found it to be too short, with two little character development, and if I'm being perfectly honest, too little steam. It didn't have that special something the other Brazens I've read have. An important part of Brazens, for me anyhow, is the hotness factor. I didn't get that here. I didn't really feel the chemistry between Jed and Angie at all.

The good news is this was a quick read. It was easily devourable in one sitting. I think I personally would have liked it more had it been a little longer and had I had a chance to learn more about Jed and Angie.

Tempting the CEO is a a fun and pleasant novella. It is the story of attorney Angie O'Hare from Detroit, and Jed Worth, CEO of Worth Industries. They are both in New York City on business and evolve a one night stand into a happily ever after.

The opening of this story was hot and amusing. Angie and Jed are staying on the penthouse level of a very posh hotel in New York City. Angie was upgraded to the top level, while Jed is always in the most luxurious suite of them all. After a long day of grueling contract negotiations, all Angie can think about is taking a long, hot bath. Realizing she needs some ice before she soaks, Angie quietly sprints to the ice machine in only a towel. Jed's suite door is slightly ajar and he can't help but notice her, especially when she tries to get back into her room and her key card doesn't work. Jed, always the gorgeous and gracious gentleman, offers to help her out. As a result, they share an attraction, champagne and an amazing night of mind-blowing sex.

I liked both characters and enjoyed their witty banter. However, the story itself was quite bumpy and lacked continuity between scenes and chapters. Thus, the pace did not flow and I felt lost at times. Overall a so-so read.

Story is about Angie who meets Jed when she is locked out of her hotel only in a towel . He offers her assistance and they go into his penthouse and they end up having a night of red hot sex and the next morning Angie is back in order and she is back to being the lawyer and she shows up for her meeting and when she walks in and goes for her meeting, there she meets—the lover from the night before, Jed Worth, CEO of Worth Industries.
The story just lacked staying power. I couldn’t keep my interest in the story and wasn’t sure what the “conflict “was. Jed was a flirt and Angie seemed very uptight. That is about all I can tell you. I ended up having to quit reading this story 75 % of the way because the story lagged. I will say the sex in the story was written well but the conflict was snooze worthy. I think there needed to be more than 140 pages to this story which would have helped this story a lot more.
I really wanted to like this story and I loved the title of the story but overall, just had to give up. Would be willing to try this author again because I think the shortness of the story is what caused the problems.
My rating: 2.75 stars **
